501  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where is GOX going? on: February 13, 2014, 08:37:30 AM
guys, this is all a giant con.

Gox is broke. Gox is a relic of early adopters' Far West.
Gox do not have the realcoins and realcash to match everyone's goxcoins and goxcash.
They got fucked by seizures, hackers and their own incompetence (and they are possibly not the only ones btw).
The latter they are blaming on the protocol in a calculated attempt to bring the price down so they can reduce the weight of their own obligations.
By now goxcoins and goxdollars are like credit default swaps, and are traded accordingly, mostly by insiders.
502  Economy / Service Discussion / (question only, no FUD) status of bitstamp SEPA withdrawals post 11 Feb 2014? on: February 13, 2014, 06:58:19 AM
As per subject - my intent being "testing the waters" and monitoring the situation. If your withdraw has reached your bank, please share. If not yet, please share at least date and time, and then update the thread when you receive it. Thanks

NB BitStamp has not the best support ever but also they never goxxed me. My only ever trouble with them was caused by a mistake I had made pasting a btc address.
503  Economy / Service Discussion / what happens to bitcoin ATMs with bitstamp suspending btc withdrawals? on: February 12, 2014, 06:15:41 AM
Are the various Robocoin, Lamassu, CoinKite etc... Operating at all at the moment?

What about Coinbase?
504  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 11, 2014, 06:30:31 PM
Funny how its Always btc-e who has the highest crash. Must have someting to do with the trollbox and ofc the people there.

... or with the fact they offer leveraged trading?

Probably stupid question, but is this new at btc-e? First time i heard about it Roll Eyes

Never used it, read that leverage 3x thing on a post here, if it turns out that it's BS sorry.
505  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 11, 2014, 06:28:11 PM
We will see how quickly the exchanges will manage to implement a fix now that Bitcoin cultists are afraid of losing their entire wealth. Cheesy

a SHTF situation is the best way to speed up a fix for a 2-year old low priority issue...

More like a bomb in the building

509  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitstamp btc withdrawal problem on: February 11, 2014, 04:58:58 PM
Stamp seems to have a problem with $ withdrawals as well.
On SEPA withdrawal it shows: Minimum withdrawal amount is $10. You have $0.00 available. while the balance is not $0.00.

It seems like they have halted all transactions. I hope that's just temporary to update their software.
The exchanges should hire someone to deal with public communication not just personal support staff. These flaws would cause a lot less trouble if they would publish the causes and solutions of those flaws more quickly.
The crypto scene is quite nervous at the moment and any delays in publishing necessary information creates trouble.

My SEPA withdrawal page definitely does not show $0 available. Do you still experience the issue?
510  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: February 11, 2014, 08:34:48 AM
What I actually see on Bitstamp are massive buys of big chunks of coins.
Someone just buys every wall on the way up. I wonder if this is a bulltrap ...

Thanks
W

The demand is suspicious,
either the spike has triggered some kind of opportunistic and coordinated insider buying (I doubt it) or it is building up for a healthy correction/continuation. I doubt we will pass 740 tonight. I am looking for 600.

It seems to me that you are echoing the forum's feelings.
Then if most people are saying: "I don't trust the price increase anymore, I'm hoping to buy lower" that might as well be a contrary indicator that we have bottomed already.

(in which case I am personally annoyed at pulling my bids just few hours before yesterday's armageddon)

rpietila, what's your call?
511  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 10, 2014, 08:09:30 PM
anybody else is unable to withdraw BTC from btc-e?
Is this real life?

Is this just fantasy?

Caught in a landslide, No escape from reality.

BTC-E updating their wallet software (Huh)

(I kinda have a feeling...)
513  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 10, 2014, 06:51:32 PM
There was not nearly enough bid depth to sustain those prices. Two exchanges (finex, BTC-E) got wiped out with a single order.
Many trustworthy. Letīs say some sociopath basement guy with 300k+BTC can do this again a few more times, just for the lulz if he wants.
Keep on hodling Hodlers  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Not in your wildest fantasy.

There is exactly one person in that situation, he is not selling, and never has.

weeeelll...  apart from Satoshi I believe that MP is also in that 300k+ situation

515  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt Gox RallY? Seriously. Well ok. on: February 10, 2014, 03:35:35 PM
Mt gox is passing 600 WTF

Of course. They announced that the problem is with BTC withdrawals. Fiat withdrawals work as usual.*
Maybe** the lemmings are now buying back their coins and heading for the fiat door.

*  sarcasm intended.
** pure speculation of mine. I don't trade there since last year.

Damn I chickened out and pulled all my nice buy spreads this morning.

And I missed the manslaughter fest  Angry
Guess I'll have to wait for the next dice roll this afternoon.

lol u think there will be more?

Look, here's how I think:

The fundamentals are good but the whole economy could be sustained with only 25 dollars a bitcoin so this high price is driven mostly by speculation. Not that I see anything bad in profiting from speculation, although the actors here are mostly nerds that are not able to manage a sudden increase of their wealth, and hence most of them are going to lose it gambling it away the same way they got it. (I include myself in this category)

So I think that all of these price swings are caused by the same old actors gambling each other's ass on the exchanges. Not enough new money coming in.

My friends who are geek enough to figure out how to buy bitcoins but yet not crazy enough to have jumped on the bandwagon last year or earlier - they all say "it is too expensive now, I'll buy some when it gets to [insert number between 100 and 300]".
The fact that we got to 1000$/BTC surely got their attention (and envy) - but yet it doesn't dawn on them that they could buy a tenth of a coin right now. Psychologically, to them, 700$ is just too expensive. And I can't blame them - they look at the 1D chart and they say "it's a bubble". I value their views because those make a sample of the people that are going to drive the next wave of price increases. It's up to them, not Wall Street. Wall Street does not give a f* about bitcoins, litecoins, dodgycoins or whatever rocks your boat. At least not yet. They will get in to make profit in dollars (and so do you, at the moment). So do resellers.

Funny Gox, they include a timezone but they forget to tell the time.

I recon it's going to be two weeks.
519  Economy / Speculation / Re: A food and his money are soon parted - HODLERS on: February 08, 2014, 05:01:04 AM
Hate being that guy but I think the pun was inverted.
D and L are swapped in HODL so FOOL becomes FOOD.
