507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Devcoin Wiki false advertising - "Ethical" project pumping $10 DVC on: June 14, 2013, 07:39:11 PM
agree. it was $10 due to someone failing @ exchanges, ie paying way too much for a single DVC
if nobody edits it, il edit it and add that it was an trade mistake and shouldnt be taken serious.

Good start!   What about the all time low as well?    Somewhere in mid 30 satoshi level if I recall?

It might have hit 30 satoshis and stayed around that price for quite a while. This was back in March when bitcoin was climbing fast, but before altcoins started surging across the board. For a good portion of that month I remember 60 satoshis and below starting to feel normal. I had generation shares at the time and definitely did unload some at that price.

I am fairly certain devcoin is not a scam, but I'm not a big fan of the pumping. It doesn't seem to be doing anything to help with the price, and that is before the outright dishonesty about the price history with the inflated $10 claim.
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Time to BUY DEVCOINS on: June 13, 2013, 11:37:19 PM
I'll buy 1 million for $10 US  BTC/LTC equivalent

i'd trade 250 AC coins for 1,000,000,000 DVC any takers?

What the hell is an AC coin?

- Programmatically insert a running count of removed posts in an obvious place of the thread, for instance the thread title or the self-moderation information banner at top of each thread page.

Take it to the next step and have "x posts by y users have been deleted from this thread [click here for a list of moderated users and posts]"
510  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Minimum spec vps to support bitcoind? on: June 13, 2013, 06:34:47 AM
I need a wallet for a service I'm helping to put together. Will a 512mb vps support bitcoind? (with 15 gb's of storage).

You really don't want to run a wallet on a VPS. This introduces the risk of a dishonest operator or their employee just swiping the wallet, and this has happened fairly regularly when people put bitcoin wallets on VPS servers.

That being said if you just want to run bitcoind on a VPS serverto support the network by providing a good and well connected peer a VPS is a good way to go. I use a lite client and have a VPS that pretty much just runs bitcoind to support the network. I'm using a 1GB VPS, but a 512 could probably work if you allow it adequate swap space. The 15gbs of storage though might be an issue, probably before the end of this year.

If you want a wallet for an online service though you need something more secure.

Wait. I meant to say: Keep internet porn free.

Definitely. Every now and then though find the exact right kind of porn for a particular moment can be challenging given the glut of it. In these situations it would be advantageous to have a place to order bespoke porn on demand.
512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Time to BUY DEVCOINS (1 penny each or less) on: June 11, 2013, 08:25:04 PM
Devcoins are the cheapest I have EVER seen them. I'm going to Garden of the Gods, I already bought tons of coins. Everyone else should too while they are so cheap.

I've seen them much cheaper earlier this year.
513  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam: OnionWallet on: June 11, 2013, 09:02:16 AM
In practice, an anonymous wallet or mixer that has demonstrated they are not a scam, are merely long cons (mybitcoin.com) or sleeping trojans.

Then if they turn out to be long cons, then they haven't properly demonstrated that they aren't scams.
514  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: I was ripped off by a member of Bitcoin Forum and am being ignored by admin. on: June 11, 2013, 08:59:09 AM
You really need to name and shame.
515  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam: OnionWallet on: June 11, 2013, 08:57:19 AM
Ranlo,

Do you have any suggestions on Trusted, Anonymous Wallets?

It does suck that I had to be the first to report this but if you look at http://blockchain.info/address/1NRMGqPYXwPoAGHiPAMzBgkqCcmgms3hjH it looks like this guy has been at it for a while.

I just wish I could find out who the scammer was...anyway, at least I still have 2.5 BTC left.  I was "smart enough"...if that can be said when scammed...not to send but a small amount of my total Sad

The closest thing to a trusted anonymous wallet is the trusted wallet you run on your own computing device. It is actually hard to get more anonymous than running a local wallet.

Most tor hosted mixers and wallet services you simply have to assume are scams until demonstrated otherwise.

517  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can someone explain to me the concept of credit/hours on: June 11, 2013, 06:39:24 AM
I knew it related to the classes themselves, but I thought each school chose how long the classes must be. The way I see it, if you can learn something in 30m instead of 3 hours, there's no reason to be forced to stick around the other 2.5 hours!

In practice there's variance here, but it comes from the instructors. In the eyes of the University Registrar's office 1 credit hour always equals 50 minutes of classroom contact time. A 3 credit hour class doesn't necessarily mean it meets for 3 hours at a time, many classes meet multiple times a week. At the graduate level though classes that meet once a week for the full duration are very common (this is how most of my grad classes were).

You can also try looking for trusted members to trade with on the Currency Exchange board here. Make sure you look for trusted members with a history of reliable trades though.
519  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can someone explain to me the concept of credit/hours on: June 11, 2013, 06:00:08 AM
Credit hours are a regulatory construct schools adhere to for billing purposes. Each one is supposed to be equivalent to 50 minutes of classroom time per week per credit hour.

TIL each credit is equal to about 50m a week. Oddly enough I did not know that, but looking at my previous schedule, it correlates! Wow, lol.

It's what the US Department of Education makes schools use for compliance with financial aid rules so it is pretty much universal in the US.

I am going to attend Texas A&M Uni for my master's . I am not from the US and I am unable to understand the credit system . I also need to calculate the exact fees that I will be paying. If I finish my masters in 18 months , how much will it cost ?

For a graduate degree 6 to 12 credit hours per semester is normal and 9 credit hours is typical. Each individual class is usually 3 or 4 hours, but things like labs can make a class longer. Undergraduates in a normal semester typically take 12 to 18 hours a semester, but graduate courses typically consume more of your personal time outside of the classroom to keep up with the course work. A full time load of courses is considered 12 or more hours a semester, but as a graduate student if you can find an assistantship it will reduce the load you need to take to be considered full time to 9 hours with a quarter time assistantship and 6 hours with a half time assistantship.

Most master's degrees the program takes a minimum of 30 hours, but some programs go longer taking 40-60 hours of credit.
