Ok, let's try. I haven't tried this miner before and generally it's a pain in the ass to get everything installed on linux, so let's just try simple commands and see - maybe if you installed it via apt-get it also installed all dependencies and we get lucky. Otherwise I recommend you try LinuxCoin http://forum.bitcoin.org/?topic=7374.0Now, go into the directory you installed your miner and type python poclbm.py -d1 --host=deepbit.net --port=8332 --user=c*****@live.co.uk --pass=***##*

keep an eye on overclockers.co.uk. they were doing brand new 5850s for £99 last week. they were sold out pretty quickly. I can't see the listing anymore, but who knows - maybe they ordered more

I have two of these in one rig: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-147-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1711They are doing 420Mh/s each at 71 C and 76 C. Fans at 100% plus two extra fans which I don't think are necessary but I like to keep temps as low as possible. Room temperature get's about 5-7 degrees warmer - I keep windows open all the time. The whole rig is consuming ~350W. They are fucking loud and I can't sleep anymore. That 5970 for 250 sounds way too good to be true - I'd stay away. In fact I haven't seen brand new 5970 for sale anywhere in UK

I'll have to get sober and read about displays on linux - it doesn't make any sense at the moment My point was that even if I export DISPLAY=:0 or :0.1, I don't get control over that particular display. It was working in 0.1 and it doesn't - just wanted to know what's changed

Oh, you don't wanna know - that's the worst OS there is Anyways, so what changed from v0.1. I could simply and it would work fine. How do I configure ssh so I don't need the -X switch? Or is it not ssh at fault?

Oh man, I thought this day would never come, but I lost all hope and went with windblows. I finally got persistence working, but ssh errors(i had to force key generation, and although could ssh into the box, it would come up with some "No protocol specified" errors when trying to use aticonfig) and AMDOverdrive letting me adjust frequencies just for one of my cards pushed me over the edge I hope you'll fix it in the next release

I agree with Fleembit. This is what I said in another thread. But is more appropriate here: The problem is the way bitcoin is presented. You guys all like it because you are libertarian types. But keep in mind that the vast majority of people in the world aren't. But bitcoin doesn't just appeal to libertarian types. All you need to say to promote it is: Bitcoin is a free paypal that anyone can use. Please leave the libertarian, going to replace all other currencies, take over the world stuff out of it. That just turns people off. The only important thing for people to know is that it is better than what people use now for online payments. People had other ideas but you get the point. Something short and simple that people can understand. Something that let's them clearly see why they should use it regardless of their ideology. Gavin: I think your portrayal of it above is definitely better than the forums. I still think it should be toned down. I feel like "revolutionizing the financial system" is still too up in people's mix. I understand most people want that to happen but a) it isn't realistic b) it scares people c) it antagonizes people that are powerful My point is if you want bitcoin to be as big as it can be and have the biggest chance of "replacing banks" you should downplay this hope. Let them come to you. There is no point in yelling this is a revolution. Just let the revolution quietly happen. Also bitcoin can definitely succeed without doing all this revolution. It is already useful and used. I have a slightly different take on it. If you don't believe in changes that Bitcoin is going to bring - that's fine, but just consider that possibility. If we downplay the implications of Bitcoin, when things actually happen it won't be pretty. I know that for the majority it's easier to just look the other way and ignore problems, like they do with current financial system, but in my opinion people who start using Bitcoin should be fully aware what may be the consequences - good and bad. It will help to build a stable user base. I do, however, agree that some views expressed on this forum(including my own) can be extreme and unnecessary.

The best way is to keep your wifi open so the good people of this world can use it. When is this scaremongering going to end?
That's cool. But do not keep the box with your bitcoin wallet on the same network, unless you know exactly what are you doing. When a kid is growing up and and discovers that there is a dangerous road you teach him to look both ways before crossing - not by building a city without cars. It takes one evening of reading to get familiar with security practices and we, being more knowledgeable in this particular area, should encourage this. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2011/04/open-wireless-movement

(they recommend you swith cto WEP encryption if you aren't using it.)
WEP is broken, there is not much practical difference between open wifi and wifi with WEP. If you use WPA2 with a very strong passphrase, than there is some hope, but the best idea is not to use wifi at all, if you can help it. It must be NSA and GCHQ are the ones who stay behind all those 'use WEP' recommendations. Either that or AT&T and BT and others are utterly incompetent. Well... maybe both. Interestingly, not so long ago on one information security related exhibition, when I asked a BT rep how they secure their residential customer's wifi, he proudly told me that they use WEP by default. Than another BT security expert was trying to convince me that I shall not use ssh anymore because it is vulnerable. BT is UK's version of AT&T. The best way is to keep your wifi open so the good people of this world can use it. When is this scaremongering going to end?

Comes up with some depencacies errors. I tried installing those packages separately with -f but it didn't work either. Also tried apt-get upgrade - no luck. One more problem - can't get persistence to work.
