521  Economy / Speculation / Re: Halving block reward will NOT double the price! on: August 18, 2012, 08:15:19 AM
The 30% drop today shows that the current demand is a little frothy

No it doesn't. It shows that someone did a surprise dump of 38,000 bitcoins. That the market rebounded so quickly shows that the demand is anything but frothy. That was quite a rebound.

The sell-off happened over a period of 2 hours and consisted of hundreds of trades of 80,000 or so shares. I don't think it was a 38,000 dump by one person (but I could be wrong). I am assuming that most of it was panic trading by "speculators", so that it why I consider the rise and this selloff frothy. Now that the weak hands are out, I think that prices will continue to rise, but at a more reasonable rate.

I could be wrong too. I'm too lazy to check the stats myself, but I remember reading that a 38,000 dump set it all off, and the panic selling ensued thereafter.
522  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The "bit" in Bitcoin on: August 18, 2012, 08:12:23 AM
I think it's an obvious reference to bittorrent because of p2p structure. Thought this since I first read about bitcoin
523  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: BUYING BTC -- 4 -- PPUSD (REP REQUIRED) on: August 18, 2012, 07:56:58 AM
You missed the whole segment on me sending first. fail on all levels possible smh.

Furthermore, neither one of you dipshits have coins that i need so why waste my time? You can build post count elsewhere right?

We both have coins that you need. But I wouldn't sell via PayPal to Gavin Andersen himself.
524  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: ATTN: Anyone else see the blood in the street? on: August 18, 2012, 07:50:29 AM
I figured that pirate had a lot of coins.. But, I had no idea that he had control of so many that it would make the market react this much.

400k BTC, give or take 100k. At least on paper.

Ah, I see so everyone is panic selling over the potential flooding of bitcoins come Monday?

Many think there will be no flooding come monday, or ever.

I need 2 coins. Buying @12. no markup. I'll go first just show rep, yeah.

That's not how it works. At all.

Paypal?? Even if you are not a scammer, in the eyes of this community that's exactly what you are. Most people here would be very cautious to sell for paypal to even the most reputable members.

Either way, if someone is sending you BTC, they don't need any rep at all if they send first.
529  Economy / Lending / Re: Buying Bitcoin Max Accounts at Discount on: August 18, 2012, 06:57:23 AM
I can arrange a 1k BTC Bet on Pirate default if you would like.

You should start a new thread for this!

You may have some takers. (notme, BurtW, etc.)
530  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Savings & Trust closing! Effect on market? on: August 18, 2012, 06:32:30 AM
Does anyone know which happened first, massive sell-off or BTCST closing announcement?

Announcement. I posted this thread to speculation about 5 minutes before the massive dumps occurred. I say that not to take credit but because I am certain of the timeline.

Hmm, interesting if that would be the case, 5k BTC is just the amount needed to blow this 5k BTC BID wall to peaces, making way to 11.20$ just nicely.

Interesting, 3 confirmations needed by MtGox before funds can be used.

0 confirms so far..

Very interesting.
532  Economy / Speculation / Re: Didn't we do this already? on: August 18, 2012, 04:34:35 AM
everyone knows this is purely speculative/silk road driven

I can't even tell you how wrong that statement is...  Smiley

Don't you think it was a single-player pump-n-dump operation? Slow, persistent buying over two months to build up confidence, then a massive dump.

no.
533  Economy / Lending / Re: Bryan Micon's List of BTC Ponzi Schemes that should not be listed as "Lending" on: August 18, 2012, 04:18:18 AM
Team Ponzi should all be labelled as such, (maybe a dumbass tag?) - That way we know not to believe the FUD they spout
Ok. I added it to myself voluntarily.

i laughed pretty hard.
534  Other / Off-topic / Re: What to do with the Pirate charity donation on: August 17, 2012, 11:20:16 PM
Is that Ray Kurzweil/transhumanism stuff?

Yes, though the Singularity Institute doesn't directly work on transhumanism much as far as I know. They focus mainly on trying to kick-start the singularity (ie. explosive technological progress) by creating benevolent human-level artificial intelligence that is able to quickly improve itself.

Very cool.
535  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Daily Speculation Poll] :: What now? on: August 17, 2012, 11:19:02 PM
Odds of pirate repaying everyone who then cash out + odds of downward volatility + odds of pirate dumping his coins + odds of people who have not yet seen the market today who freak later > odds of no drop in price. JMHO
536  Other / Off-topic / Re: What to do with the Pirate charity donation on: August 17, 2012, 11:08:04 PM
- The Singularity Institute

Is that Ray Kurzweil/transhumanism stuff? Gives me the heebie jeebies.
537  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: The sorry and thank you Pirateat40 thread on: August 17, 2012, 11:06:11 PM
The OP has sucked too much Pirate cock.

How the fuck do you know that Pirate brought opportunity to bitcoin when no one even knows his business model?

You are super ignorant.  Grin Grin Grin

Yeah, the dudes that shake the economy are the morons on the speculation board who profit $3 when the BTC price moves by $2 up and down Roll Eyes

lmao
538  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Daily Speculation Poll] :: What now? on: August 17, 2012, 11:04:47 PM
So many unknowns! As much as I hate being USD-exposed, I'm selling more right now and hoping to profit from the volatility.  But I'm fully anticipating single digits followed by a big swing back up.
539  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The reality of BTC that too many (and myself) dont want to believe. on: August 17, 2012, 10:48:40 PM
...Do you know how hard it is to manually create TCP/IP packets.

This sums up the problem entirely.

The one difference, a rather large one, is that for bitcoin, "packets" are worth a lot of money, and people will always be deceiving others into giving them up.
540  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Paying 4.9% per week... Small accounts welcome. on: August 17, 2012, 10:43:23 PM
Proud to say that I created the very first account on bitcoinmax Tongue

I'm sure payb.tc will handle this situation with much integrity.
