5341  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Cheap Easy Safe paint/tar to cover leds on miners? on: October 18, 2015, 09:11:51 AM
You should ask this wuestion in the Mining board.

Do you really want to never see the lights? That seems silly. Just get sone black poster board snd cut out pieces that will fit over the LEDs, that way it block the lights but doesnt impair the function of the machine.

It wasn't directly related to mining so i wasn't sure where to post.

I absolutely don't want to see their flash. With a layer of electric tape, i can see if the led is flashing when directly looking at it since a smidgen of light make it through, which is ideal. So a thin layer of whatever i could put on it should do.

Its just there's components around the led and that block the tape from properly covering it. I'd just need something non conductive.

If you ever had a Antminer S1, then maybe you would feel my pain. That bunch of S1 would give someone an epilepsy attack. Its like a crazy rave show.

You can manually disconnect the LED cables from inside the miner it would also save you some power.
The Antminer S1 won't be profitable for long so it might be a good time to sell it.

They're going to be fine for the next 8 months, especially since its going to be cold/cool for all that time, and then the halving. But thats going off topic.

I think i'll suffer the 75mWatt waste and just cover them. I don't want to actually modify any sort of circuitry. There has something simple and inexpensive i can slap over..

It depends on the miner.  Some will be really simple to block others are spread around a little more or have LEDs closer to fans.

I would suggest using what you have free, and at hand that wont damage miner.   I use electrical tape for many things but its not going to be good long term holding on a hot miner.    I would either use some material that does not show though.  Maybe as cheap as cardboard you could cut it in the perfect design and use electrical tape around the edge.

You will have to replace tape every so often but it gives you a chance to clean that stickyness.  So not really a bad thing just clean each time you replace it.  It should last a while.

5342  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: I can't use mine domainname with solo mining? on: October 18, 2015, 09:04:42 AM
Honestly save yourself the time and look at CK pool - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=763510.0

It is perfectly set up and ready to use.  And it charges very low considering what it provides really.
5343  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Would i be better off waiting for the 16nm miners? on: October 18, 2015, 09:02:10 AM
Also, why you metioned Innosilicon? I haven't hear about them for really a long time.  Huh

Because they are the only company who have publicly announced consumer sales of 14nm mining chips with their A3's, unlike Bitmain and SP-Tech who are staying with 28nm for the time being.

sources?  Huh

Lk - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1033676.0

BW  - https://www.bw.com/pool/miner

They teamed up with BW.   There are some big moves that happened.  Are you still with avalon?

Avalon is a project name. My company is Canaan-creative. Bitcoin mining is still my primary job.

LK / BW is totally different form Innosilicon. As I know, LK/BW is designing the chips under their own control.

Good luck to their first chips.  Smiley

ng

LK announced LONG ago at this point.  Everyone assumed it was with Innosilicon as they have always been partners in past.  Also they said same NM as each other.

BW miner is kinda new and assumed with Innosilicon.  So no public info really on what's happening with LKETC original gear if still planned, or BW stole Innosilicon.

That is what I get out of it anyways.
5344  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best miner hardware in case of Free electricity on: October 18, 2015, 08:59:17 AM
I don't know why peoples asking again and again the same question?
If electricity was free of cost, why would you bother about hardware?
Because the difficulty grows fairly quickly. With overpriced units it takes quite long timeframe for ROI.
Any hardware can fail before even investments returned.

And sorry but I am not expert for now, for this reason I asked for an advice..

The surprising part is how often it is asked.  If you have free electricity it honestly is kinda hard to make a wrong move.

Just make sure not to have to old of equipment, there is a point think like BFL minirig.  Where it is just stupid to use at this point.  But A1's, S3's, etc cheap and "free" will roi depending on price you pay.
5345  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: bathroom floor heating trough watercooled miners on: October 18, 2015, 07:44:45 AM
I think it's a good idea to use the heat to but....
You are talking about 3200 watt for your bathroom. Now you can make a buck. But in two years ore less you don't with your S5 set up.
And don't know much about bathrooms. But maybe a bit expensive over a period of 10 years.

No roi talk, is not relevant in my situation.
and as backup it schould be able to connect to the radiator in the bathroom.

I also dont know anything about bathrooms and or floorheating Grin

What coolant do you use for this?   Do you use coolant for electrical equipment?

Or is it something else since you would need a lot I'm guessing.
5346  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best miner hardware in case of Free electricity on: October 18, 2015, 07:42:06 AM
Thank you for replies guys.  Exactly S7 is really good but they are not In stock and no real ETA for further batches just promises as I can see.
So I voted for S5 for present moment.  As long I have free electicity and enough free space for hosting these - there is no reason to resell it later.

then what about the s5+? has a better efficiency, not like s7 but still better than the standard s5, and it takes up less space

so you have a bunch of s5 all in one big s5, it's like building a bigger and better unit in a RTS game, i see it like that Cheesy

Personally I enjoy my S5+.   It has been a great miner few miners fun for a month without having to touch.

I highly recommend it.  Some had bad luck but my unit has been great.
5347  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie problems - help needed on: October 18, 2015, 06:03:58 AM
So I'm finding this about as simple as trying to program a monkey-driven rocket trip to Pluto.

Trying to get bitcoin today.

Went the paypal route to VirWox, put in a transaction that supposedly went through.

Downloaded Armory wallet.

Then had to download bitcoin, since I got a message directing me to do that.

Nothing in the Armory wallet from the paypal transaction though.

So I then try to fire off an interac-transfer through quickbt.com

Again, transaction goes through, but nothing in Armory wallet.

Armory is giving me this message "Downloading via Armory CDN", and a torrent rate, along with "7 hours" (was 8 earlier).

Can someone please advise me as to what is going on, and also if there is any possibility of actually getting some bitcoin today, please advise on that method as well.

Thank you.

Dude when you download a wallet software ...they always download all the transactions from starting blocks to blocks now....so u have to wait to get the blocks downloaded

AFAIK only bitcoincore downloads the whole blockchain, other wallet software doesnt

Its not the only full verification wallet. Armory also is full verification, according to bitcoin.org. Tho most others are indeed SPV- Simplified Payment Verification.

If you want one that downloads quick get a lightweight wallet.   When you say It's not making it have you looked at the address on a site like blockchain?

I would suggest looking there and seeing if transaction made it to address.
5348  Other / Meta / Re: Fake Quotes on: October 18, 2015, 05:57:39 AM
it's nothing bad just 1 user is accusing me for being some alt of someone else and he changed 1 word

example :

i said daily bump

he quoted it as daily scam

FYI, he changed it not with the intention of making people believe that you actually said that, but with the intention of interpreting what you said because he felt that you were a scammer.

With being a MSDN dealer you kinda open up for some flak from people.   There are people who go around and when they say MSDN they neg for selling, as TOS.  But I guess that is a different topic.

If someone makes quotes to make it sound like you saying something that hurts you.  Report it to mod.   Depending on what it is will effect if they remove.   It is not a rule not to do it... but no it's not good.
5349  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: October 18, 2015, 05:50:09 AM
Software-controlled voltage would be nice, but the added cost and complexity was ruled out for the design. If we build another one with a new chip in the future we'll probably put that on there since we'll have already worked out most of the specifics for other things and because since a fair amount of the overall design would transfer directly from the existing version of the Compac to a new one, which means I won't have to start from scratch with the dev of literally every piece of the thing next time.

All our sticks get tested with cgminer-gekko so I know it works. BFG is out of our hands.

I would agree with using cgminer-gekko.  Using BFG I can understand if someone was use to it.  But Novak did a amazing job with cgminer-gekko and it just works.

So I would take easy route.  Also it's nice and easy to change freq with numbers.
5350  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: October 18, 2015, 05:47:47 AM
A 503 error is usually due to human intervention - maintenance or.....for a reason. As it's been down for quite a few hours now, I'll go with "for a reason".

They might have pulled it to stop sales of batch 2/3.  They needed to do it somtime soon.   So possible they pulled it down during US time and work on it with more of the workforce during China time, it's now morning there.   They really have not had a ton of time in China yet to fix it.

And also with price of coin we could see increase.  They could have  a meeting or  two on that before putting it up with another batch.

They wouldn't take the site down to remove quantity or products from sales.

One would think.  I have not tried to hit up any BM contacts.  But it is China daytime now.

Do you have any idea why they are down?
5351  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: October 18, 2015, 05:44:46 AM

OpenWrt Chaos Calmer Pre-Alpha.

Substantial Risk exists ... you may brick your device!

This is for ADVANCED USERS ONLY.

If you brick your new toy don't cry....you have been warned.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0CKglNyN0URdXFadlN1RW9jZW8

You should be ready to recover your device with a serial console.

http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/hardware/port.serial

A modified bootloader is also available.

https://github.com/pinney/AR93xx-u-boot_mod

First  modded firmware!  It is nice to see.  I don't have mine yet so can't try it or not.

But shows a lot of promise to even have this already.  We should thank bitmain for not locking down firmware.
5352  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Rebuilding Damaged ATX EVGA PCI-e cables. Where to get parts in Canada? on: October 18, 2015, 04:24:47 AM

It look like they do, however;
USPS First Class International (15-30 days)   $7.99
or
UPS Standard   $19.20

A bit expensive or slow as hell for 14$ of stuff.

Also, they sell 4pack of female pins for 0.3$ or you can get 6 females pins for twice the price, 0.6$ as an option coming with the plastic connectors.

Did i miss something, like they need different connectors or its just a marketing trick?

Its too bad they don't do better prices for bulk orders, i'd be inclined to make my own cables from now on, but they don't seem to be posed for good deals for Canadians, and for the items i checked, they only have "pricing" for 1+, no 10+ or 100+. Sad

Edit:

Also i can't seem to checkout, the shipping estimator doesnt make sense, adding some pins to the connector order make the shipping go up to 70$ which is plain derp. So i tried to see what quote they really give me but at my cart/checkout i can't seem to click anywhere to actually try to place the order.

It's nothing against Canadians it just is higher to ship to it for them.  You can get it cheaper if you are willing to wait.  But you will not find fast and cheap I'm afraid unless it's a site in Canada.

I would get the cheap shipping and just wait unless you need it there like now then bite the bullet and pay extra.
5353  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: October 18, 2015, 04:15:37 AM
You guys take these campaigns too seriously. It is pocket change for posting.. stop making such a big deal over it.

Seriously I love this campaign.  I feel it has treated me very good.  I have been part of it over 6 months.  Macro and Bitcoin Boy both care, and will help.

That bot that estimates price on account that says post quality is not really truthful.  It bases it on length....  long post is not necessary a good post.   A short post might fix someones help so post vary.

n2004al I will get paid the same no matter my opinion.  But I HIGHLY suggest not to burn bridges on the forum.   One day you might want to come back.   I think you are seeing red.  I suggest just let it go.  Also other campaigns read this to, if you make trouble for a campaign chances are they don't want that either.  But I could be wrong.  But take a few day's and take a breath.  If you have issues I suggest going to PM.   It's really taking away from signature thread on the debate.

I could be crazy but I have been pretty happy overall.  And I have been part of it for a long time.
5354  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: October 18, 2015, 03:08:15 AM
Only 0.01 BTC from trading altcoins, there are too many crappy ones out there, so I need a better filter.

Then I might earn a lot more with better choices.

I have tried asking you this a while you are like linked with burst and their assets.  I looked into HD mining of Burst.  I saw like a few dollars for HD mining 2TB all month with a computer.

So all the calculators I tried showed it as a loss compared to running PC and HD.  Can you confirm Burst is very littlle money when mining?
5355  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where can I invest? on: October 18, 2015, 03:04:43 AM
Alot of sites scam now days you could try lend to trusted members

Yobit could be the best site to invest, for small people.

You even have it in your signature. It's just a good exchange that holds your money safely, while you can invest in very cheap yet profitable altcoins.

Don't lend is my suggestion.   It is sad but a lot of people default from loans as they are not really regulated that well.  BTC Jam is kinda known as leaving lender as screwed.

If you loan they run off without paying BTC Jam gives you the other's persons info.... sometimes in other countries.  They do not help get investment back its all up to you.  So it is very hard if you have a default.

And one default could kill your profits.
5356  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Rebuilding Damaged ATX EVGA PCI-e cables. Where to get parts in Canada? on: October 18, 2015, 03:00:14 AM
I have about a dozen of these cables that are burnt or damaged from the same source, this is the worse one;
https://i.imgur.com/2I2b8fW.jpg?1

I plan on cutting the burnt part and re-crimping new connectors on them. To do this i would need to find an inexpensive source of these pin and connectors, something of decent enough quality so they don't become the weak link.

I currently have this tool;
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/251814735843?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

And this wire stripper (diff color but seem to be exactly the same thing);
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61S03eg2KxL._SL1000_.jpg

So for clarity;

-What tool do i need to crimp those PCI-e pins if either of the 2 i have won't work?

-Where is a inexpensive place that ship to Canada that i could buy what i need for to rebuild the connectors?

What model PSU are you using?  Is it modular where you can get a new cord or do you really need to re-use those cables.  Generally speaking reusing a burnt cable is a bad idea.

What miner did you have it hooked up with that damage happened?
5357  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S4 Setup [HD] on: October 18, 2015, 02:58:02 AM
Is there any way to lower the fan speed further than with the smit's slow fan firmware? It won't go under 2520RPM even though its cold and its the only thing making noise in my apartment now.

The S5's are completely silent now.
S4s will do okay with their front fans swapped out but if you're saying temps are really good then you could remove the front fans altogether. I wouldn't recommend unplugging them and leaving them in the case as they're restrictive by design. In terms of noise levels it won't reduce it much but it'll at least save you 30W. Besides that you can't get them slower without firmware as they're modified by PWM signals and not voltage.

I see. Well its already running with only 3 fans, and i'm really interested in getting them to run at 1000 to 2000 RPM. The temps at the moment are at 40c and RPM is 2520. I already have the smit's firmware, does this allow to set a variable somewhere to get it lower than its set minimum?

Any method of making these fans quiet would be nice, short of swapping out the fans, since i would rather not buy more hardware for this S4.

If there is no known way to do this, then thanks anyways for your replies dogie!

Even if you are trying for a more quiet miner.  I would put a replacement fan.  They are designed in a push/pull.

S4's are not one I would recommend for apartment use if your looking for quiet as a general rule.

Even if it's not the final image, it does look nice and is extremely useful. Thanks for pulling this together cryptoglance.

It might be worth keeping the "lastupdate" to know when a worker last mined in case they've dropped out. This won't affect winnings (if there are any), but it still might be useful to be able to say that worker "blah" has not mined since X date.

As I'm sure cryptoglance is aware, the lastupdate int value is just the the number of seconds since the C epoch. It's easy to convert to an actual date/time value.

Going to makr a few more updates tomorrow and will share the url tomorrow

Thank you for all your coding time!  Truly is great to see.

Cant wait till we are able to look at URL to see it.  No more phil having to copy/paste so many times.  Great product!

super good news everyone!!!!

with the help of LDP and some trial and error.. i got wired <> wireless bridge working and im seeing if i can do a wireless <> wireless bridge.

ill keep you guys informed.

That is good news.  Now can you figure out how to change the pool?

thats easy. just ssh into the device and change the /etc/init.d/cgminer script to point to another pool.

That is good news.   Does it reset if power is lost I'm guessing?

Also what does status screen look like when you change it to another pool?

AFAIK its saved (but if you use the reset button, EVERYTHING returns to default which is good to prevent bricking), and the status screen wont look any different, but may show your pool username in the email entry box

That is great news!  I like that it is saved, was not expecting that.   Can't wait till we see some modded firmware eventually.

And reset fixing it is nice in case of messing up.
