541  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla’s stock prices dropping fast on: December 18, 2022, 12:06:39 PM
"Obviously, in turbulent macroeconomic conditions, beware of borrowing when the Fed keeps raising rates," Musk tweeted earlier this week, said. Musk continued to sell his Tesla shares, quite a lot this year. However, Musk said that he would not sell shares after April but he did not do so. After Elon Musk bought Twitter, there was pressure on Tesla shares. Tesla's long term investors think Musk should quit Twitter. Musk should focus on Tesla and not waste time with Twitter. But since the last fall, Elon has made a profit as he has sold his shares at high prices. He always does this.

It was his problem from the beginning.

Musk was always involved in too many different projects at the same time starting new ones and leaving the old ones unfinished.

He has the mind of a garage inventor who tinkers with a thing for a while then throws it away because he has another idea and then comes back to the old project and half of them never get finished while the other half is completely useless but once in a while he makes a real gem that gives him money and energy to keep working.

Stocks will keep falling as long as the FED keeps cutting but the FED itself said that they will stop somewhere next year and everything will recover.

Stocks are representation of the economy not only the state of the company.
542  Economy / Economics / Re: Forget a return to office: We’re living in the age of side hustles on: December 18, 2022, 11:45:33 AM
My friend's company went into home office model during the pandemic and they remained there when they saw the bills. They had close to 100 people in 1 building and this is a software company so 100 computers running, lights, AC, security in the building, cleaning... That's a huge cost every month.

Performance wise they even improved when people started working from home because they were better rested. They could avoid traffic jams and sleep an hour longer every day and saved up on fuel.
I don't believe they're ever coming back from this.
543  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Speculated] Barry Silbert dump on: December 18, 2022, 11:20:57 AM
The dump was to be expected when FED increased rates again. Look at stock indexes, they're all down and begun falling a day before bitcoin.
I don't always like Anthony Pompliano but he was saying the same thing for months - it's one big trade, doesn't matter if you're in stocks or crypto. FED is manipulating the prices.

I don't think that Barry alone is responsible for the whole move from 18000 to 16000 He could be involved but it's mostly crypto traders reacting to the stock market dump.

544  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Too much uncertanity here it got be more sure here what i say on: December 17, 2022, 07:57:30 PM
Right now btc and Market falling....guys why you let it happening ? I want and all my friends btc going up so i do my part Im buying.

We do not matter here. How much can you buy? 0.1 BTC? 1 BTC? You won't counter the miners.

Don't panic though, you have to realize that bitcoin goes down when there's no big buyers because miners are mining and selling all the time so there's a constant sell pressure on the market and for bitcoin to even stay flat it has to be continuously countered. You or me can buy 0.1 bitcoin a month and even if every person who reads this thread does that we won't be able to make the price go up.

I haven't sold anything since the Luna crash and spent a lot of USD on bitcoin. Long term thinking and conviction are what matters in a bear market not whining about 5% ups and downs.
545  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: AI answer to how can bitcoin price drop to 0$ on: December 17, 2022, 07:37:20 PM
I did play around with this a bit.   It clearly has built in bias guidelines and will even tell you that it probably has bias.  It doesn't seem able to answer questions on things like what is an inappropriate question and how does it determine this.  So it has guidelines that it can't access until the question is asked.

I successfully managed to ask it many questions of which it cannot answer.  But Google still can so this is not a Google killer yet.

But,.  Unlike Google the chat GPT informs me that it is capable of running on a beefy PC.  Independent of Google servers.  Which take up a warehouse or two.  So this might be an almost functional personal assistant unlike the Alexa Google and Bixby.  Which are fairly useless.

It also tells me that it's data is cut off for anything later than 2021.  And I asked it how would I go about updating it and it starts getting evasive again.

So I see real potential here I also think that the version that we can play around with is seriously neutered.

I think it's learning and the more questions people ask it the better it will become at answering. It's like that AI developed to play starcraft and it became so good that it managed to beat pro players, but it also suffered from all the typical AI issues like prioritizing some action like defense over offense and knowing it gave the players an edge in some situations.

When it comes to bitcoin going to 0 it answers pretty good. You can see it's trying to be balanced like not saying that it will or will not happen but giving "its own" opinion.

I think it will never happen although there's a very small chance that it could because the price isn't bitcoin's value. If you do a coordinated dump of a million bitcoins all at once you could crash the price to extreme lows even below 1 USD but it wouldn't be the real value like when bitcoin crashed to 3000 in 2020 it wasn't the real value.
546  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A Chilling Realization on: December 17, 2022, 07:20:59 PM
If you're interested in my plan I can share it with you. It's all about getting as much bitcoin as I can and holding it for as long as I can. The whole crypto economy depends on bitcoin so there's really no need to take additional risk by investing in altcoins.

I have some ETH because it's something different from bitcoin and I want to see how it does, but most of my money was and still is in bitcoin. I will continue to hold if the price falls to 12 or 10k, I don't care because I know that this is temporary. Bitcoin will succeed and it will continue to grow and by holding I show my support for the project.

I actually think we need a similar topic pinned unto this section so we could get a lot less of the "Influencer x said bitcoin will go to $100k in 2023. What do you think?" threads.

I've tried to watch youtubers a few days ago and I felt so brainwashed after an hour that I gave up for good. Most of them despite calling themselves crypto enthusiasts are as dumb as some of those people who testified in the FTX case.
547  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: turned gambler after investing in BTC or investor turned gambler? on: December 15, 2022, 04:10:52 PM
I'm more of an investor that turned into a gambler.

In short, I got into altcoins first then bitcoin. I was looking to earn some money at first because I desperately needed some cash in 2016 and 2017 and when I went through my first bull market and satisfied my basic needs I felt safe enough to try my luck and start gambling.

I wouldn't gamble my last money, I wouldn't borrow money to gamble and I wouldn't take a risk if I had very little but when I took out 20 times more than I've invested I felt like I could take a risk and have some fun. 1% loss is nothing when you're 1000% in profit.
548  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Canada bans crypto leverage and margin trading after FTX collapse on: December 14, 2022, 10:33:28 PM
It is because they want to protect Canadian investors, we all understand that, but if I am a Canadian, I will not like that after gaining experience from leverage trading over years now. But leverage trading is truly riskier.

I don't understand that. How do you protect people from their own mistakes? According to them it's by taking away all tools that can hurt them. Why don't they ban loans then?

Margin trading is based on lending traders money they don't have so they can take a market position. The same can be done on other markets like when you take a loan to buy a bankrupting company. You're technically margin trading just in a different environment.

What about gambling? Are they going to ban it too? Let's also ban alcohol because drunk traders can forget to set stops.
549  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Making post for merit on: December 14, 2022, 10:06:36 PM
When you post for merit others will see it and your chances of getting a lot of it will decrease.

Posting a lot increases this chance but in the long run you're better making 1 good post a week than 10 shitposts a day.
Eventually people will start adding you to their ignore lists and you'll start being noticed by spam busters and moderators. It's really not worth it.

Post whenever you feel like it, don't think of merit when you want to say something, just do it. If it comes naturally you'll eventually start being noticed.

Good luck!
550  Economy / Economics / Re: This could be the biggest news in 2022 on: December 13, 2022, 11:18:51 PM
Such a move can also be an attempt to legitimize yourself and put the deal into the media so that people think you're big, real and you're thinking long term, but in fact you're buying a cheap, poor bank that gives you nothing but a name and some headlines.

People do these things when they see a way to make more money on the deal so how does this bitcoin group want to make more money from the 15 million they're spending? Maybe they'll launch their own stable coin now and if anybody asks about backing they'll play their "bank card".
551  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SBF, arrested! on: December 13, 2022, 10:57:29 PM
I saw an interview with a former attorney of Bernie Madoff, who said that these charges are very serious and he's facing a maximum of 25 years, but will probably get much less because maximum sentences are rarely given. That doesn't mean he won't get any jail time, on the contrary.

The attorney also said that SBF is facing a number of conspiracy charges which means there's going to be more arrests of his co-conspirators.

Finally, but this is little bit out of topic is Do Kwon arrested too after luna happened
Nope, Do Kwon is still on the run. Last news is that he is hiding in Serbia, according to Cointelegraph article.

He didn't choose the safest country to be in right now. There's an armed conflict brewing in Serbia.
552  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA 2022 world cup on: December 13, 2022, 09:30:32 PM
Messi has proven to the world that he is a great player, he is old and still playing very good football, he was the man of the match because he had the highest contribution in the match as a player who registered an assist and scored a penalty in the match, I hope Argentina wins the World Cup and gives Messi a break because he will have achieved his dream in football.

About time. He's in the age where professionals start thinking of retirement, so it's going to be great for him if he ends it with a bang.
I will always remember him competing with Ronaldo for the title of the best player.

As for the match with Croatia I wasn't expecting such domination. I guess this means no more Miss Croatia showing tits at the stadium.
553  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Live Coverage: US House Committee Holds Hearing on FTX Collapse on: December 13, 2022, 09:15:00 PM
some highlights as i watch
17:00 - SBF made a loan to himself of $1billion
by being both the issuer and the recipient, those funds (currently still investigating) have not been found to have then been passed to ftx.us ftx.com accounts
there were numerous "personal loans"

I like how she smiles while saying that he made a 1 billion loan to himself and claims he wasn't aware of the terms of repayment.

A normal person takes a 1k loan and has to read and sign all the paperwork. This guy takes 1 billion with 0 interest like it's nothing and thinks he doesn't have to give it back. Then he wastes it all because he no longer has it and his net worth isn't even 10% of that loan so where the fuck is all that money?

Looks like many people in the committee are having fun. They can't believe this is a real company. It all feels like a comedy until you look some victims in the eye and then see that chubby unfazed face of SBF. I'm not an antisocial person but if they were sentencing him to life in prison I'd feel nothing but joy.
554  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: December 13, 2022, 08:59:02 PM
It's good that he got arrested, but isn't the timing strange? Why do this now if he was scheduled to testify under oath today?

[1] https://techcrunch.com/2022/12/12/sbf-scheduled-to-testify-tomorrow-at-us-house-hearing-on-ftx-collapse

There are speculations that the arrest is exactly to stop him from testifying against the people in the government who helped him to run the scam for so long. Among these people is the name of the current SEC chair, who has some connections with the father of one particular polyamorous crypto trader who openly admits to taking hard drugs Wink

So my point is that there seems to be shenanigans at high levels that does not really add up...

I find it especially strange that it seemed like Sam was untouchable when the whole thing blew up because there were no attempts to arrest him and he got an invite to come and testify. He wasn't summoned, just asked if he'd come and clarify things and he declined and tried to buy time. He was so full of himself for weeks and it looks like some people lost patience.

.. but anyhow getting back to the timing of the arrest and the cooperation matter, I thought that there was an article that came out that asserted that Sam had said that he was not going to cooperate.. so initially he was going to cooperate, then he was not, and then he was and then the latest was that he was not going to cooperate.. (as stated in this article that was initially published about an hour before his arrest)  so maybe the latest break-down in his willingness to cooperate to testify might have contributed to the decision to arrest him sooner rather than later.

Reminds me of how he said that he can't tell us what he doesn't know and he was the one with access to all the wallets but doesn't know how all that money ended up in his pocket. He sure changes his mind a lot and doesn't know anything.

Mr prosecutor, it wasn't me! I happen to have all this money but I don't know how it got there. I woke up one day and it was there so I bought a house with it and then a boat and a car and another house... I also bought a house for my parents and I paid a few million to Kevin O'leary and bitboy to vouch for me. Every day I was waking up and there was new money laying there no matter how much I was spending there was more and more because people were sending it to me. You have to believe me!
555  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why every casino got bad habits? on: December 13, 2022, 08:31:26 PM
Why this is the principal of all the casinos? Why they can't operate without having any issues? They always do this shit; who knows what has been done with people who don't know how to deal with such a casino. Can you show me a thread that never had any reputation issues on this forum?

Would you be able to run a business without making a single mistake?

We're human after all, we make these things and the longer you run a business the greater is the chance of you messing up.

It's not important if a casino has a scam accusation here but if it is finally handled in a professional way. A casino can ignore accusations or respond in a thread.
There are many false accusations too where someone starts a thread but fails to provide proof of misconduct.
556  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Was Bitcoin project a failure after all ? on: December 12, 2022, 11:48:54 PM
It has not failed and I'm not worried about its future.

So far bitcoin has proven to work and this is the important part.

It was supposed to be safe, not vulnerable to hacks and it is.
It was made to allow us to send money instantly to another part of the world and it does it. After many millions of transactions we know that it's reliable and the money won't disappear or be stolen in the process.

If it's not accepted by as many merchants as we'd like it's not the problem of bitcoin. When you choose to keep your money in USD or EUR not bitcoin it's not bitcoin's fault.
When you keep bitcoin on exchanges and it gets stolen bitcoin is not to blame. When someone uses it to bribe or extort others or to launder money it has nothing to do with bitcoin and its purpose.
Bitcoin is a tool. You don't blame the knife for killing someone and you don't blame a car for hitting a pedestrian.

557  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The US Prosecutors are at it again against binance and CZ. on: December 12, 2022, 11:32:41 PM
Didn't seem to make much of a dent wrt Bitcoin price, this news.

Good to see.

According to OP it did Cheesy

The US prosecutors are at it again in their usual clampdown on Crypto currencies and exchanges thereby causing a drastic drop in the Crypto market.

OP must be living in some other time line and casually coming in to drop the news on us.

The longer the bear market drags on the less impactful bad news become. We've already been in this for about 14 months. About time for the struggle to end.

People will finally learn after 12 years of watching cryptocurrencies that they shouldn't hold money on exchanges and that it doesn't matter what scam gets exposed as long as your money is safe far away from it. Scams will always be there and so will bankrupt or hacked exchanges. You have to take care of yourself.
558  Economy / Economics / Re: Coffeezilla Accidentally Got SBF To Admit to Fraud on: December 12, 2022, 10:30:26 PM
i dont like o'leary. but from a legal stance i can understand that he cannot really drop the ball and say SBF scammed him and say SBF is a scammer voluntarily in public. because saying SBF is a scammer. is o'leary pleading guilty to advertising a scam. meaning jailtime or high price fine for o'leary

Advertising something that turned to be a scam and knowingly advertising something that was a scam from the beginning are two different things.

I'm not sure if O'leary saying that SBF scammed people would mean that he was paid to help scam.

The most important for the court is to proof that it was not negligence but intention to scam people and that O'leary knew. To do that they have to first prove that SBF knew he was scamming and that O'leary found out while he was advertising and did not quit because the money was too good. The last part is going to be very difficult even if they both admit it was a scam.
559  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Bloody Year 2022 coming to End on: December 12, 2022, 10:12:02 PM
The above shameful scam has completely negative impact on the Bitcoin market in 2022.  We all hope that such incidents do not happen in cryptocurrencies in the coming years.
Some of these events had a negative impact on the price but were good for bitcoin.

All altcoin implosions that somehow impacted bitcoin price when they shouldn't were good in the long run. Take Luna for that matter. It was a scam. It's better that it got wiped out. If we allowed it to continue it would have an even greater impact in a year or two. Bitcoin got hit only because these scammers were holding it and used it as a distraction.

Anybody can hold bitcoin but those who were buying those lies that Luna created and investing in it allowed these scammers to buy bitcoin and eventually crash it. They are to blame for this disaster.
560  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Advise ,please, crypto exchange on: December 11, 2022, 06:45:05 PM
Don't go with best rates, go with decent rates but with high reputation. For this, I'd go with Coinbase for US peeps, and Binance for everywhere else.

As always though — not your keys, not your coins. Only use exchanges for trading, not for long-term holding. https://notyourkeys.org

Exactly!

The reason why so many people got cheated by FTX was they had the lowest fees and they were doing that because they didn't care if they made money from you trading or not. They were making money by stealing your deposits.

Nobody will work for free so if you see the promised profits are too high from an investment like staking or the fees are too low it should be a red light.

Also, no matter how trusted a third party is there's always a small chance they'll scam you so make sure you're safe. Do a quick exchange in and out and don't trust them with your money for longer than you have to.
