Any chance you could tell me what's the distance between Chile and Australia?
Circumferential or Cartesian? I can't believe this topic has been raging for three years. One day all these "Flat Earthers" are going to look back and recognize just how foolish they were... Maybe.

Humans will make it to Mars, it's just a matter of time.
If it's not NASA, it'll be one of the several commercial rocket companies, or a collaboration of countries and companies. I'll go on record and say that we'll have humans settled on Mars before the year 2030.

Recently i got a mail from bitcointalk saying my password was changed. I was surfing facebook and it came on the same time so I managed to change the password again as soon as possible before the hacker changes my email. I want to know that how come someone knows my password? Thankgod i recovered my account quickly. Also is there any way to keep account much safe and away from such scammers? Edit: I can see that the hacker who got into my account also made a post in the auction section about selling merit. (link:- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5037339.msg46140617#msg46140617) Thats against the rules of the forum and i hope the mods can delete this before the topic creates a mess in the community as I can't delete it. Looking at your account, the trust page would show if your password was changed recently, and it does not appear that it has. I think you've been phished. You may have been under the impression you were changing your password here on the forum, but you may have actually given your password to a hacker. If I were you I would change it again, this time making sure you are doing so here on this forum.

Plagiarism, simply stated is the act of taking somebody else’s work and attempting to portray it as your own. This can be done orally or in print, music, art, expression, or video. For the purpose of this article I’ll focus on printed plagiarism. Obviously that’s the concern here on the forum due it being… uh, well, you know, a forum. It’s understandable that many bots or lazy spammers take other people’s work and post it willy-nilly to bolster their post count, and spread their spam without significance. That’s not what I’m aiming to address. Instead my target audience is those of you who have no such intentions, but are merely here to discuss the pertinent topic, and would like to stay out of trouble while doing so. I’ve noticed a few cases lately where people have been banned for plagiarism, but after a bit of research it was plainly obvious they made a simple mistake. Unintentional plagiarism is just as damaging to the reputation of the forum as the spambots’ plagiaristic activities. So, even a simple mistake is no excuse, and it’s a mistake that is very easily avoided. Take heed; plagiarism is not taken lightly here. There’s nothing wrong with citing another’s work to help support your point or argument, or to augment your own words on a particular subject. So, let’s explore how to do that properly, and avoiding being perma-banned. The simplest way to properly credit someone for their work is to simply use quotation marks, and add their name or a source after the passage you’re quoting. Here’s an example: “Concerning the difference between man and the jackass: some observers hold that there isn’t any. But this wrongs the jackass.” - Mark Twain If you need to attribute the text to a source, make it clear and label it as a source to avoid ambiguity. Even if you attribute the text to an author, it never hurts to cite a source. In fact it helps a lot. Again, make it clear like so: Source: https://bookhaven.stanford.edu/2009/12/mark-twain-revisited-a-reply-from-shelley/
Another way credit an author for their work is to use the quote function available in the posting window: Select the text you want to attribute as a quote, then click the “Insert Quote” button on the options panel. You can also attribute the text to an author by adding “author=<name>” within the quote bracket, like my example below:
Concerning the difference between man and the jackass: some observers hold that there isn’t any. But this wrongs the jackass.
Example: Concerning the difference between man and the jackass: some observers hold that there isn’t any. But this wrongs the jackass.

If the OP believes the earth is flat, he is incapable of reasonable thought and should not be trusted.
I don't agree with that statement. The ability to think critically or rationally isn't inherently tied to one's trustworthiness, in my not so humble opinion. Of course the earth is round, more than 7000 years old, and orbits the sun. I know all these things, but a lot of people choose to argue these facts due to their spiritual beliefs, lack of knowledge, or learning disabilities. I don't think that automatically makes them untrustworthy.

I am going to take a wild guess here and predict that the next member will be a legendary one that does not actually need your merit...
Your choice of words is interesting. What, exactly constitutes a "need" for merit? Yes, the question is rhetorical; there is no need for merit. This forum is unique in that it has created its own economy. Apparently many have mistaken the intent of the forum, and seem to believe the economic system is the purpose for the forum’s existence. That’s the problem the merit system intends to resolve.

XRP 2e spot at CMC. Up 62%. It's already lost 30% from it's morning high, and back down to #3 for Market Cap. Smells like a TwitBook pump and dump routine.

I think that this effort is a very good effort to improve the quality of postings. However, I think that the number of merit sauces is necessary a lot.
Mmm, nothing like a generous helping of merit sauce, especially with linguine and clams, garnished with a bit paprika and parsley. Mmmm.

Someone says it is recent posts by newbies, does that mean it will tell you when a newbie posts a comment on your thead?
It's a list of the posts made by Newbies and Brand New members. That's it, nothing fancy. But it's a great way of finding shitposts, if that's your thing.

How many of you fine folks have enabled the "Patrol" link in your profile? How do you use it? What do you look for? I imagine some of you (LoyceV?) have some script you use to scan the posts for plagiarism and spam.
In the last couple of days I've spent a little time going through the newbie posts and have reported a couple. But it's slow going that way, and my eyes start burning after so many quoted bounty replies.
Any suggestions for making it more useful would be appreciated.

Please can you deny your wife just 1 merit to rank up to Jr member?
I think he's doing the right thing. Don't be so hard on him. If the tables were turned could you be subjective enough to gauge the quality of your husband's posts in this type of situation? I think it's a lot like the ethics training I received at work; what constitutes a conflict of interest? What would it look like from the perspective of an outside observer? Could your husband justify his action and convince us that he does not have a conflict of interest by giving his wife merit? Quite the opposite, your income (and therefor his indirect income) would be enough to claim he does indeed have a conflict of interest.

I really thought I would find a bonanza of shitposts in meta today that were worthy of inclusion here, with all the newly-demoted newbies whining about "muh marits," but pickings have been surprisingly slim. Still, there was this post by a hero member: yes, you're right. bounty managers need to extract them. they should be treated honestly. I'm following this carefully. burglars should report to bounty manager.
That "Hero" member has some interesting statistics, the account has never received a single merit: https://bpip.org/profile.aspx?p=CornettWoke up after a nap of 2.5 years, and this is the very first post: very good project. a new signature campaign is different. but $ 25 a week is a very little payment. will there be a separate signature campaign for the other members?
If I had to guess that's a purchased account.
