561  Economy / Gambling / Re: PokerDominicano -NEW Bitcoin Poker Room ~Financially Secure ~(FREE $10) on: May 29, 2013, 04:10:19 PM
We mean business here.

Last time I checked, gambling is for fun, not for business or to make a living off it

When was the last time you checked?

I can't think of 1 casino or gaming resort that doesn't make money off you or is just in the business for fun.

What about that one (maybe several) Donald Trump ran into the ground?
562  Other / Off-topic / Re: What to do with an unused VPS? on: May 29, 2013, 01:00:20 PM
Bitcoin node

Pretty good idea actually. The network could always use more full nodes and most VPS systems will be in data centers and positioned to be good peers, just don't use it to keep a wallet with actual coins.
563  Economy / Gambling / Re: Any one want to go 50/50 on MLB betting? (click) on: May 29, 2013, 12:53:28 PM
One solution might be to try out some of the books with lower minimum bets.

Bitcoinsports.eu is accountless and has a BTC0.01 minimum, as long as you keep you betslip's  number (each bet gets one) they address most complaints rather quickly.

I have less experience with it, but bitbook.biz also has a low minimum bet and doesn't seem to have pissed many people off.

Huh

There are a few other sites you can play at, SWC is not the only one (I play at SWC, LBP and satoshi)  I have dislikes and likes about  all of them.   I prefer livebitcoinpoker.com first then SWC then Satoshi.

Livebitcoinpoker.com= NEWER Site With crazy awesome bonuses and since they have limited users right now it's fairly easy to win  some fast cash (I did a review on them)
SWC= Lots of players and has a large following of good and bad (mostly good ppl) but some weird rules (I did a review on them as well)
Satoshi = gotta dl a client but is interesting lol (prefer not to waste too much time)

I run a review site bitcoinscammers.com that we get request daily on these sites. We try to keep it unbiased but the rules of some of these sites (even though they are hardly enforced) are still concerning.

One thing Seals does have are some people with real names operating it. I've never had trouble getting bitcoin in or out either.

If I were you I would have read it. It states it's just a bonus code if you do that. The freerolls are free and there is no min deposit. However they do have a .5 BTC  withdraw minimum so you better be good lol.

Without respect for anything else, this seems like an awfully high minimum withdrawal, especially for 2013.
566  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [TO THEYMOS AND MODS] BFL scammer tag? on: May 28, 2013, 01:42:49 PM
Clearly you are not from the states? Either that or I would assume (yes making an ass out of you and me) that you are based in New York City.
You see there is only one thing Americans value more than money, it's called Fame. This is why major firms take on cases of mass serial murderers pro bono or as a public defender because even though they will be receiving a fraction of what they typically would make they will be receiving the media attention and publicity that only millions if dollars in advertising could buy.
Why wouldn't a prominent law firm with the staff and resources to take this on not? They will get mass media attention. They will be helping a prominent community that if ever needed again could probably hire and pay for their services. They would receive hundreds of thousands in "free" publicity. They will be the go to firm for future legal support when dealing with Bitcoin related items (which could very well put their firm at the forefront of the future). Plus they would be entitled to 33% of any settlement.

A large firm taking on a class action could make a lot of money while the plaintiffs, other than a select couple leading the class, make very little. The lawyers get the fame and the money. The victims get... coupons, rebates, a small token sum when the case is inevitably settled?

For any person who feels like pursuing legal action consulting a lawyer on their own would probably be in their best interest. I have a suspicion that small claims for many people could lead to a better financial outcome than a class action.
567  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [TO THEYMOS AND MODS] BFL scammer tag? on: May 28, 2013, 11:50:45 AM
It's not an obsession. Individual lawsuits would be tedious, 90% of them would not be able to surpass "small claims" status and would not have the desired impact and/or implication of the greater picture. The fact that hundreds if not thousands are being swindled out of there money. A calculated, organized, hit like a class action lawsuit represented by powerful attorneys would finally put this nightmare to an end.

I am sure the cost would be minimal as this is a popular subject right now and the media attention alone would be worth thousands to a firm. I also believe that BFL does have some significant assets even if they are hidden I'm sure a group of savy tech people like this one could track down a good portion of those assets.

In a number jurisdictions in the United States small claims court judgments frequently award triple damages and will accept cases where damages are up to several thousand (varies state by state and sometimes county to county, also the price of a couple small miners or maybe one or two of whatever they are calling the thing under the minirig now). A number of small claims judgments would be much more damaging to a firm than a single massive class action suit.

Much like mining there would probably be a substantial first mover advantage for those seeking small claims judgments first, taking their judgments while there is still something to take.

Not touching the Cardinals Dodgers game? I can't blame you. The Cardinals don't hit left handers very well and May is coming to a close so Lynn should start slumping. On the other hand it is the Dodgers, The NL West's less lulzy version of the Astros or Marlins.

I looked at it but you are right cardinals dont hit left handers.

Sunday's game where the Cardinals put up Shelby Miller against the Dodger's Kershaw might make for some interesting picks though...
570  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Blockchain Splits/Merges and Resulting Invalid Transactions on: May 24, 2013, 09:01:06 PM
Because orphaned chains no longer contain valid outputs, any transaction that contains any inputs that can be traced back to that coinbase becomes invalid.  Even if only 1% of the inputs to the transaction are traceable to a minority block coinbase.

For this reason you must wait almost a day to spend it.   What happens with splits that last longer than a day?   In theory those coins could have been used in multiple transactions involving dozens of people and all of those transactions would be invalidated even though they may only contain a fraction of the generated coin.   This is very likely with mining pools that may end up on the wrong side of a split.

The only solution I can think of is to have all clients deny transactions that reference coins minted after the split until the chain merges again.  This would require detecting the split and then holding all coins generated after the split as 'unspendable' until after the remerge determines whether you were on the majority or minority side of the split.  Miners as well as clients would have to know that any transaction that references one of these coinbases is 'unconfirmed' so they can act accordingly.

What systems are in place to detect splits due to network connectivity interruption?   Is the assumption that SOMEONE will find a way to sync transactions between chains within 24 hours?   Is that a safe assumption?  I suspect that a 50% fall in hash rate would be enough to detect the potential of being on the minority side of a split.   Thoughts? Solutions?

Well, coins generated by a coinbase transaction can take nearly an entire day to mature...
571  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FREE DEVCOINS!!!! on: May 24, 2013, 08:47:27 PM
Miners keep complaining about the 90% Sad they give from their devcoins, I think this complain comes out of fear to "lose" their potential wins Huh Huh Huh, this may sound to some a bit absurd, but please let me know if I am wrong.

Devcoin has enabled Merged Mining, so there are no potential losses since you can also mine Bitcoin, Namecoin, and others at the same time. It would be pretty bad to try to solo mine Devcoin without an ASIC though since the network hashrate is awfully high thanks to Merged Mining.

573  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is being killed by governments and nobody seems to care! on: May 24, 2013, 08:34:56 PM
BTC-e have just switched on their OKPAY service again for a few days, to allow people to move their cash into their exchange, before they switch off the service for another 2 months.

We are seeing all the various financial services throughout the world getting their cogs spun up to make the movement of fiat to a bitcoin exchange so difficult that without already having your cash in the exchange, you can't take advantage of any movements in value.  If you do want to move your fiat into bitcoins the whole process is taking longer and longer - last time it took me 2 weeks.

I don't expect US users to note how difficult it is for the rest of the world, but at this rate its going to be impossible to get enough bitcoins / altcoins into the mainstream to gain enough traction to make any success happen.

Anyone else having this problem, or am I just looking in the wrong place? - BTW, I really don't like MTGox, I don't trust them, and to only use that service to get your bitcoins seems to defeat to object of having them!

Probably in the wrong place. Have you considered OTC?

I'll buy 1 million for $10 US  BTC/LTC equivalent

I believe the going rate on Vircurex is roughly BTC1.6 per million devcoins at the moment... I don't think this year it has ever been so low as $10 per million devcoins...

It has been lower:

http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/period-charts.php?period=alltime&resolution=day&pair=dvc-btc&market=vircurex

Not this year.

Actually quite a bit lower... the lowest I've seen was around BTC0.3 per million devcoins, but the high was above BTC3 per million.

Devcoin value can move quite a bit...

YOU THINK THE DHS IS ONLY TARGETING MT GOX? NO! THEY ARE TARGETING BITCOIN

BE SAFE OUT THERE. I AM NOT SUGGESTING PEOPLE USE RIPPLE. USE A BRAINWALLET. BUT RIPPLE IS NOT AFFECTED.

I suspect RIpple would probably be affected sooner than bitcoin in general. Since it is new it might take time to get attention, but given its centralized nature ripple would probably be very vulnerable to three letter agencies.
578  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: TradeFortress VERY untrustworthy, owes me 10.15 BTC, possibly others. on: May 20, 2013, 11:33:29 PM
Of course, this is exactly what would happen, and was the goal of TradeFortress all along. I allowed it to happen, it's how the system works, I allowed him to incur debt for bitstamp-backed btc, as he asked. He then gave that BTC to a random unknown user that popped up immediately after (suspicious!)

Ripple was perfectly capable of giving it away on its own, once you extended trust to TradeFortress and allowed your BitStamp IOUs to  enter the pool backing his IOUs.

Quote
I use ripple daily, have done for ages, never had any problem, and I only trust gateways that have my BTC and other currencies anyway, or people I know very well.

Ripple hasn't actually given been around that long, and it doesn't seem like you have actually acted in this manner rather than just saying you do.

Whether TradeFortress is honest or not his shennanigans reveal Ripple is a tremendous security vulnerability for anyone who uses it, unless you use an utterly paranoid set of precautions that have yet to be worked out.

Bullshit, it's only when the participants do not understand the concept of trust. By that logic pirateat40 revealed a tremendous security vulnerability too.

Of course pirateat40 did. Trust and greed are the opening for many security vulnerabilities.
579  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: TradeFortress VERY untrustworthy, owes me 10.15 BTC, possibly others. on: May 20, 2013, 11:03:48 PM
Didn't he say, he'll send you 10.15 BTC to your Bitcoin address? And after you declined that, he sent you IOUs?

I'm not taking a side here, but that's what I remember from the other thread.

Yes, he took it from me once, sent it back, then took it again.

You... Probably should have offered that bitcoin address and taken payment to an actual bitcoin client rather than accepted more crap Ripple IOUs.

Whether TradeFortress is honest or not his shennanigans reveal Ripple is a tremendous security vulnerability for anyone who uses it, unless you use an utterly paranoid set of precautions that have yet to be worked out.

The key issue here is that if you have TradeFortress IOUs and BitStamp IOUs, other people with TradeFortress IOUs might be able to redeem their TradeFortress IOUs for your BitStamp IOUs with no action from TradeFortress required other than spreading IOUs around and building a web of people who trust him.

Until you divorce from the TradeFortress Ripple BTC trust network, any actual value BTC vouchers you might have are vulnerable. If he offers to send back again, take actual BTC and then lockdown your Ripple trust before you try to put anything of value back into the Ripple system.
580  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Here's where I spew my accusations against MPOE. All are welcome. on: May 20, 2013, 11:00:42 PM
MPEX is not the only service where they outright confiscate peoples BTC. 50% of BitBet.us dividends came from confiscated customer Bitcoins:

Quote
Revenue : 52.41062758 BTC, of which :

bets resolved : 18.89598891 BTCii
advertising : 3 BTC
house bets won : 4.70571706 BTCiii
gracious donations to shareholders : 25.80892161 BTC

http://polimedia.us/trilema/2013/bitbet-april-2013-statement/

So what are "gracious donations to shareholders"? They are bets that are placed when the a bet was still open, but get's closed before your bet TX is confirmed by miners. So say you are about to bet 10 BTC on "Yes" for "North Korea will launch more missiles during May". If North Korea launches the missiles while you're sending the TX for the bet, BitBet.us will just keep the Bitcoins and not return them.

Send with a decent transaction fee.
