Stouse49 has built a new MAC wallet and we're currently looking for 2 or 3 community members to help us test.

https://www.gldtalk.org/index.php?topic=3775.0

I'll kick in a few hundred Goldcoins to those that test thoroughly and provide detailed write-ups. The write-up must be posted in the thread on gldtalk.org to qualify. Tongue Kiss Cool

566  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think are the biggest disadvantages of Bitcoin? on: February 17, 2017, 03:21:07 PM
One disadvantage is the fact it's very expensive for sending small denominations.

There is around a 30% transaction fee when sending a single US dollar value. Cry
567  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you keep your bitcoins? on: February 17, 2017, 02:47:48 AM
How do you currently store your coins

Nowadays, they can be safely stored for days or weeks just by spending them. Tongue Cheesy Huh
568  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Noob Question - Tx Fee & Stuck transaction on: February 06, 2017, 08:40:25 PM
New member and new to BTC!

I downloaded electrum wallet but didn't realize that the transaction fee was set to static. Transaction listed below...

https://blockchain.info/tx/7067a9f2481984e99e6ce91858e093d82b58d4f90202a3c5209e6b16a2a8f206

Will this eventually get included in a block or is it going to sit in bitcoin purgatory?

If so can a pool pick this up if I contact them manually?

Kind of worried!

You might want to take the output private key and import it into a blockchain.info wallet. Then you can double spend with higher transaction fee.

Bittrex and C-CEX have now updated their daemons and taken their wallets out of maintenance.

Pools are also reporting increased mining performance after upgrading to the improved client.

GLD added to hash-to-coins.com mining pool

Thanks! I'll work this week to get all the various pool links updated.

Our team will be running a few final tests throughout the evening but so far everything is looking good with the client patch.

The latest source code is now available on Github and the Windows binaries available below:

571  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: GoldCoin™ (GLD) Thread - The Gold Standard of Digital Currency [OFFICIAL THREAD] on: February 01, 2017, 01:42:26 PM
Our developers are currently investigating these reports and looking into the possibility of creating a patch that will improve mining efficiency.

Watching!  Keep up the good work GOLDcoin!

Thank you. The checkpointing patch is currently being tested and could become available as early as this weekend.

Edit: 02/02/17 - The patch seems to be working and should be rolled out within the next 24 hours. If there are any pool operators reading this, we are currently in need of a pool willing to help us test the latest code.

thats the great 51% defense system kicking in orphans for all

Our developers are currently investigating these reports and looking into the possibility of creating a patch that will improve mining efficiency.

That's not the impression I got from git, one of your developers seems to be blaming everyone else actually:

Quote from: akumaburn
There's no reason for the RPC to freeze up that i can think of. Something must be wrong on your end.

I noticed C-cex have also taken the GLD wallet offline as well now....

On top of that, of the 50+ blocks found by p2pool so far today not a single one is valid - all rejected (not surprising considering the state of the sharechain).

There are very serious problems with the wallet & network, yet looking at the block explorer here:

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/gld/address.dws?E9B4Sin3GiKviKP9t6Hvs3jDyGFHSco1Br.htm

..it seems that every block is being paid in full to the same address  E9B4Sin3GiKviKP9t6Hvs3jDyGFHSco1Br - does anyone know who owns this address?

With miners not getting paid, exchanges unable to run the wallets & developers & pool node operators in denial - the future of this coin looks very bleak I'm afraid.

Akumaburn is looking into the possibility of rolling out a patch to improve mining efficiency and we are closely monitoring the network as always. He wrote a checkpointing patch on Monday and is testing it now.

However, let's not fud your issue into the fact C-CEX has several wallets in maintenance at the moment. There is no evidence to suggest that they're having problems with the Goldcoin client.

And this is not new code, the 51% defense system has been in operation for almost 4 years. The network hashrate is nearly 1 GH/s so someone is mining. The chain is moving and the network is strong.

This is experimental software and an open source community. That means we should all be working together to build and grow the currency.

This is supposed to be fun, no reason to be such a Debbie Downer. Cheer up!  Kiss Cheesy Cool

575  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoins that might survive in the future? on: January 30, 2017, 01:55:49 PM
This formula I've been experimenting with could be helpful in addressing this topic.

A = Coin age in weeks
N = Node count
M = Marketcap in millions

Why coin's age? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindy_effect
Why node count? adoption indicator
Why marketcap? market sentiment indicator

(A x N x M) = Score

Use this method at your own risk, mileages may vary. Tongue Kiss Wink

577  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best Wallet Software? on: January 29, 2017, 12:50:35 AM
+1 for Electrum. I've been using it for years and it hasn't failed me yet!  Cheesy Kiss Cool

Tip: It can get slow if you grow a massive trans history w/ multiple addresses. This is easily solved by creating a new wallet.
578  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: GoldCoin™ (GLD) Thread - The Gold Standard of Digital Currency [OFFICIAL THREAD] on: January 28, 2017, 06:52:32 PM
Food for thought:

"Gold Has No Intrinsic Value

Other than the value that humans ascribe to it, the shiny metal has no intrinsic value. Historically, gold has been used as a currency and a store of value because it does not corrode. But that was centuries ago. In the digital age, gold is no longer relevant as a monetary holder of value. Today wealth is stored as bits and bytes - when was the last time you had more than $1,000 cash in your pocket? It's all plastic and code and passwords. New currencies such as bitcoin are much more attuned to the needs of our digital age, and will eventually replace gold as a hedge against political and economic uncertainty." -SNIP-

It would appear a good time for crypto gold to fill the comming void. Here's the link to the rest of the article:

579  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How does price go up or down? on: January 28, 2017, 02:25:47 AM
Hey there.
For example Spectrecoin was valued at around 3300 satoshi with a 24h volume of 5-6 BTC. Now it has around 17 BTC 24h volume and its price is even lower than that.
Can someone enlighten me on how this works? Sorry for the dumbness Smiley still learning stuff about crypto and economics

Often times volume is manufactured. So one must look closely at the order books and chart technicals to actually gauge trading interest.

Short-term prices move for a variety of reasons including temporary manipulation, panic buying/selling, pump and dump schemes, and news cycles.
580  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Getting started investing in Altcoins on: January 28, 2017, 12:02:39 AM
Yes, Bitcoin was intended as the major more "stable" part of my investment. That's why I'm not planning on betting more than 100$ per Altcoin.

In terms of storing altcoins, it's okay to leave them on Bittrex (can't vouch for all exchanges) until their individual values exceed some predetermined threshold. That threshold will depend upon the level of convenience desired and your level of competency.

For me, I would feel comfortable leaving any altcoin wallet worth a few hundred dollars on Bittrrex and sleep really good at night. If you get heavy into a particular coin, then you might consider using a local wallet and following best wallet practices.

No need to have dozens of altcoin wallets installed on your local machine. Opinions will vary. Smiley
