581  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What To Do? (For People Who Mostly Gamble on NBA Games) on: March 13, 2020, 08:56:27 PM
The virus outbreak have been affecting the markets, games and the normal life of citizens in major parts of the world. But there are false rumors and scares revolving in countries which are being less affected as well. The disease isn't curable as of now and has been identified to be deadly, but does this require too much of an attention in countries which are being less affected? The stocks faced a significant dump and so does the crypto which are being driven due to fake manipulation and scares which should be taken into consideration only at fewer places of the world!

I would personally move onto other games which are active to quite an extent and wouldn't be cancelled if the virus outbreak becomes worse than the current situation. Gambling is a form of entertainment and as far as I am concerned I only play with what I can afford to lose just for pleasure. Online gambling games like dice and roulettes could serve as an alternative in the place where gambling based on real-world games are kept on halt!
582  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MetaMask for Ethereum Crosses 1,000,000 User Milestone on: March 13, 2020, 08:32:44 PM
It's been a while I had used Ethereum and other ERC-20 token transfers. But metamask had always been a perfect entry to teach newbies about how these transactions and gas works in real time. MEW is a little complicated for newbies since they might enter a phishing site and lose their private keys. But Metamask is a safer extension and makes the transfer between the addresses easier.

Apart from this, their integration with hardware wallets like Trezor adds an advantage to secure our Ethereum and tokens. Dapps are growing at an enormous rate, but the tokens which are being created out of thin air and likely of no usage in real world creates the problems of scams. Hopefully, Ethereum blockchain finds it's way through the masses and decentralized applications overcome the today's centralized applications.
583  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: COVID-19: Avoid casino, play online on: March 13, 2020, 07:32:41 PM
With the rising number of cases in Italy and worldwide, there has been a closure of most of the public places which could be the prime area where the virus could infect others as well. Schools, universities were locked down in various parts of the world and employees are being offered "Work from Home" solutions to prevent the spread of the virus. As the situation gets intense in major parts, online casinos would be the only way for the people to gamble in a safer condition.

Yesterday in one of my posts, I spoke about the differences between online casinos and physical casinos and the advantages associated with usage of online casinos. To prevent the exposure to virus infection, international games are being postponed to a later date and gambling through online casinos for the welfare of themselves and others would be of much help. The gamblers might have a higher immune system, but what if they spread the disease to other elderly people and children? I consider these should be taken into consideration and the gamblers should take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of virus.
584  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [QUICK HELP NEEDED!] PLEASE HELP ME FIND A BTC TRANSACTION WITH RIGHT CRITERIAS! on: March 13, 2020, 06:54:15 PM
Initially sometime back, we had a explorer sort of thing (not sure) called goochain.net But the website is inactive and down as of now. The other easier alternative for you to search a bitcoin transaction with predefined criteria is by having a look on Blockchair explorer They offer varied queries for you to search and find the transaction with exact criterias.

Apart from these solutions, you can load the blockchain as a database and can access it through mysql or MongoDB. If you understand the basics of Mysql go for Bitcoin ABE You could probably go for Blockchair explorer without having to install these in your PC.
585  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Limiting ETH's total supply on: March 13, 2020, 06:34:40 PM
This had been a subject of controversy among the traders and investors on the hard cap of Ethereum. Unlike BTC which has a total supply of 21 million, Ethereum and Monero doesn't have one. But in the case of Ethereum, Vitalik proposed the EIP (Ethereum Improvement Proposal) in a way to cap the total supply at ~120 million. Since the cryptocurrency runs on the basis of network consensus and the people acceptance of the change, the EIP has never been accepted as of now nor they were tied to the code. But from Monero standpoint, once the supply hits the 18 million mark 0.3 XMR would be mined constantly per block thereby supporting the miners in the process.

There is a defined total/max supply was proposed by Vitalik but the consensus has never been approved till now. This does show that miners aren't really favorable to the idea nor does the public. Vitalik has proposed that if the total supply crosses his approx 120 million mark, the supply can be capped at 144 million again. Either of them were never really approved, so I don't think there would be a finite supply for Ethereum as of now. I am a Bitcoin, Ethereum and Monero maximalist and I have placed my trust on these three coins while the latter would prove to be perfect competitor for Bitcoin on a longer run.

Casper might change the way how we look Ethereum at the current phase and we would get introduced to a newer algorithm called Proof of Stake. Well, at some point of time in 2020 we would be experiencing this new protocol changes which could bring a development to the hard cap controversy.
586  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Multi-chain cryptocurrencies for greater censorship-resistance on: March 13, 2020, 04:59:33 PM
I have never heard of such a unique idea but they would indeed create a hard fork for both the coins. The very idea of a blockchain is that each block will pave the way to the genesis block. When you have a split in chain just like the BCH hardfork, there would be a split off in blocks as well and both the coins would be following 2 different chains each one different from other right from transaction speeds and total supply. How could we combine 2 different coins which has separate features of its own? By writing up a code through which a newly developed coin will have the features of both bitcoin and ethereum? If we tend to do so, we are creating another alt coin but has never merged the 2 separate blockchains.

The small POW blockchains which you are speaking up are never really needed to this world and literally they would easily suffer the 51% attack quite frequently as they are far less miners contributing to the process! Hashrate is related to the miners progression over time and they have nothing to do with the particular coin blockchain.

For instance hackers can attack Foocoin by launching a 51% attack, since they can easily be destroyed and can never withstand such intense mining conditions or overlapping of chain. Rather there is a possibility of communicating between 2 blockchains by writing up a simple smart contract. Ideas like these are still in the development stage, but might hit the limelight sometime sooner.

Combining of 2 blockchains and creating up a new coin would always create a hard fork and if none of the miners are really willing to mine the coin, there would be absolutely null hashrate and they can be destroyed easily. Either way, thanks for always coming up with innovative thoughts and your topics are good to have a read.  Smiley
587  Economy / Speculation / Re: btc dropping more then 39% in 24/h - on: March 13, 2020, 04:00:59 PM
Having read through these posts in the topic, there does seem to be too much of panic investors trying to cash out what they have invested. US markets and traders always play a major role in the upliftment or the losses in crypto market. Well both the stocks and crypto has wiped out in a week, the remaining safer asset class which hasn't experienced severe downtrend are precious metals. The current trend could be seen as a positive way to bag up as much bitcoin as you can and can very well become a wholecoiner as well. Precisely COVID-19 has been one of the factor for the widespread sell-off of both the stocks and bitcoin, but if you have played the game correctly you wouldn't have faced much losses.

Personally speaking, I bought some stashes of USDT way back when bitcoin was trading at $9000-$10,000 area. Recently I sold them off and bought bitcoin. I have been repeating this right from 2018 major dump. When we had a major 2018 crypto dump, I never invested in bitcoin. But rather bought as much USDT as I can when bitcoin touched the levels of $6500. When it was trading at the 2018 low of $3500, I again invested in btc, wiping out my USDT balance and traded them back to USDT during the 2019 major pump in June.

I would continue this up until I have few stashes of btc for long term storage. Neither of us should have a long term investment on btc without trading unless you have accumulated some decent whole bitcoins. Trade actively, increase your holdings and take out what you have invested. The remaining amount (>1 btc) should be loaded on a Ledger Nano S and should go inside your safe vault.
588  Local / India / Thoughts on renaming of Buyer/Seller Reputations (India) child board on: March 13, 2020, 09:48:48 AM
There was a similar topic of mine which was posted about the same for receiving response on the renaming 2 months back in January. The topic was little misleading and was cumbersome to understand at the beginning and didn't evoke much interest among the members. Just requoting some parts of the topic for better response!

For quite some time, I have been unhappy about the minimal and confused usage of Child Boards here in the Indian local board. For example if someone comes up with a Scam Accusation on a particular Indian website or to solve their doubts regarding the reputation of an Indian website they don’t really have a board to post their queries apart from the main board. The Child Board Buyer/ Seller Reputations (India) seems to be useful only for posting the reputation of a trader or a particular person in detail and doesn’t seem to be useful for discussing about the reputation of an Indian company or something similar. Hence I would like to propose a solution for the situation by renaming the board to Scams Accusations / Reputations (India) instead of Buyer/ Seller Reputations (India).

Need thoughts and a Serious Discussion on this topic so that if many of us agree to this, we can suggest the proposal to theymos for renaming the board!

Apart from the above mentioned thoughts, I would also like to pitch a proposal on the Languages being used there. Probably since they are related to scams and reputations we could allow all the regional languages to be present there instead of reporting and moving those topics to Regional Languages board and limiting the board just for English posts
589  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: VPNs using Blockchain Technology on: March 12, 2020, 08:24:39 PM
...snip...

Probably there doesn't seem to be much interest from shitposting bounty hunters to this topic as they would have a minimal knowledge on bitcoin and cryptocurrency as a whole and would just hunt for bounties.

I would never speak in favor of creating a new currency in the form of implementing blockchain and making them list of exchanges. Rather, we could just use the blockchain tech and pay from the scale of "Highest contributor - Low contributor" in bitcoins itself. The primary goal of VPN is to anonymize users and to improve the privacy of users. Mysterium Network has never reached the limelight still and they are still in the testing phase.

I would be having a grasp on Tachyon Protocol by tomorrow and would discuss more on the same. But if the node operators are to be paid through bitcoin, it would deter the privacy issues of the customer and the data would be stored on some centralized servers as well. I have been going through a read on Orchid protocol and they do seem to solve the same case in an advanced manner. But for the node operators to get paid, we need to introduce a smart contract kind of stuff for them to get paid through ethereum or bitcoin based on the contributions they have done in operating the node for a particular period of time.
590  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitaddress says I have .1 bitcoin but after importing to blockchain.com it is 0 on: March 12, 2020, 08:00:31 PM
How can you access this bitaddress.com website?
The OP should probably be referring to www.bitaddress.org They are open source indeed and have been one among the best source for generating Paper wallets in a secure offline environment.

Well, if the blockchain shows 0 zero balance it means you don't have a balance and maybe what you saw from bitaddress com is fake. If you sent a BTC on that wallet before and it shows zero on blockchain well, your Bitcoin is lost forever there is no way to retrieve them back. You might be scam by someone or you've been generated a fake wallet.
This might be due to OP checking up the bitcoin balance in other blockchains like BCH. Either way, there is no other go to check the wallet balance other than importing private keys in bitaddress.org and viewing them in a blockexplorer. So OP should have pasted his private key in bitaddress and verified the balance and would have posted the varied address alone in blockchain and could have verified it in other non-btc blockchains or addresses with 0 balance.
591  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is the position of the gambler in the market? on: March 12, 2020, 07:47:36 PM
I work and trade and invest in cryptocurrency.  But I do not have much sense of the wealth of the gamblers and have never gambled.  I would like to get ideas on how to earn through this gambling medium.
Gambling is a form of entertainment and you should consider winning and losing as a part of entertainment when you gamble with your money. Earning through gambling is always a risk and luck based factor and they are entirely dependent on how lucky you are while rolling a dice game for instance. Investing and trading bitcoin and other legit alts are a perfect way of earning additional money but whereas gambling is considered as a way to lose your money as such.

Whenever you go for a short trip or a long one, do you expect any guaranteed returns from the trip? They are solely being done for the relaxation of our mind from stresses and nothing more. Gambling should be considered as a form of entertainment similarly where you should gamble with the money which you are afford to lose. Gambling is never considered as a form of investment and I would say that would literally be a very bad idea as well.

If you are willing to gamble for the sake of entertainment, I would suggest you to register in freebitco.in or Fortune Jack. Both these gambling sites are good to be trusted with your hard earned money. If you have the expertise to win a game, you would receive bitcoins. If you are a newbie in gambling and willing to invest, you would lose your bitcoin in the process.

Gamble is dumb = set up for you to lose your hard earned money.
Going for a short trip is dumb = it is set up to lose our hard earned money.
592  Economy / Speculation / Re: Jimmy Song 100,000$ Prediction on: March 12, 2020, 07:55:54 AM
When an anonymous guy posted about predicting the future bitcoin prices right back in 2011, some really felt it was an achievable target by considering the technology behind bitcoin and some really believed it might reach $1000+ in a futuristic era. After a 6 year of trading period, the price was double the predicted price. All these are literally based on the popularity and demand of bitcoin which was an achievable target.

Similarly $100k would be possibly achievable but they might take years or decades to reach the point. The trading, usability in real world, scalability all paves way for the transactions to speed up and to be an equal competitor to a system like Visa which process over 1500-1700 transactions per second. But when bitcoin reaches the limit, hodlers are the people who would rejoice and common people who still believe on alts and central bank currencies lose the opportunity.

Hal Finney predicted a price when he first got to know about bitcoin through Satoshi. At that point, bitcoin would replace global currencies and will be called up as a new sort of asset class and currency which would be used for global transactions. All we need is use cases for these predictions to become real at some point of time. What would be the use for people buying a piece of code if they weren't helpful at any point of time to them?
593  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitaddress says I have .1 bitcoin but after importing to blockchain.com it is 0 on: March 12, 2020, 04:54:05 AM
Let us know the Bitcoin address so that we could check the balance in block explorer initially. I would recommend you to switch over to wallets like Electrum instead of risking your private key by importing it to blockchain.info wallet. The wallet itself is prone to some bugs and if you tend to input your keys in a wrong phishing web wallet you would lose your bitcoin as well.

If the address really does have private key to spend the Bitcoins, then download Electrum from https://electrum.org/#home and import your keys. Probably based on the address type (3,1,bc1), you could type the prefix.

  • If your address starts with 3, type p2wpkh-p2sh: address
  • If your address starts with bc1, type p2wpkh:address
594  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Physically vs Gambling Online Using Crypto on: March 11, 2020, 07:25:43 PM
Gambling physically and through online has its own advantages and disadvantages. Physical gambling i.e gambling by going through the casinos would be fun and interesting as we tend to meet some of the gamblers in real life and would understand their gambling strategy as well. Online casinos on the other hand doesn't allow us to meet them but would allow us to remain anonymous as well. People who prefer anonymity would always speak in favor of online casinos like Fortune Jack or freebitco.

  • As you have already pointed out, the decentralized nature of the online gambling casinos like verification of provably fair would be considered as an add-on feature from the physical casinos.
  • Apart from the provably fair nature, online casinos tend to be faster in nature by processing more transactions per second.
  • Online gambling is more convenient to play rather than dressing up each time and leaving for a casino.
  • Gambling and casinos are highly non-regulated and there is a fair chance online gambling would attract gamblers from countries where gambling isn't allowed.
  • Some scam casinos tend to use the private info of the users for their personal benefits as well.

And in addition, based on my experience, gambling through cryptocurrency allows you to play even without a fund deposited because of some gambling platforms allows players to use faucets so if you are not a hardcore gambler, then you don't need to worry about putting much amount just to play.
I would partially agree to this. Faucets would never pay as high as playing a game. Rather you should accumulate crypto for a longer time and then should play the game.
595  Local / India / Re: Need Beginner Friendly technical knowledge on crypto on: March 11, 2020, 06:20:41 PM
thank you once again and please don't be irritated if i ask you my doubts regularly sir. Wink
There is no such thing to get irritated or feel offended while explaining about bitcoin to someone who is really willing to gain knowledge on the topic. Once you have read the "Mastering Bitcoin" book to an extent, I am pretty much sure you will have a pretty good knowledge on bitcoin and blockchain in general. The global boards have "Development & Technical Discussion" board where you can read on the newer improvements being suggested to bitcoin by common members like us. Apart from that, there is a Bitcoin Technical Support board where you can ask questions when you are struck with a wallet or have been experiencing similar kind of situation.

Mining section is dedicated for discussion with advanced miners and if you have any kind of newbie friendly questions on Mining and Bitcoin in general, you can create a topic in "Beginners & Help". Speculation board is for traders discussing on future bitcoin prices and Meta is for discussing about Forum Issues.

Before you start posting, kindly have a grasp on general rules which should be followed in this forum : Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ and read through all the stickies on top of all the global boards. Hope this is more than enough for you to start your journey of gaining knowledge in this forum in a vibrant way. Cheers  Smiley
596  Local / India / [ANN] Bitcoin Core 0.19.1 is now available in TAMIL [Soon in Hindi and Telugu] on: March 10, 2020, 06:56:54 PM
Welcome to my 1000th post on the BTCitcointalk forum.  Cool

Introduction

I luckily got to know about bitcoin only in 2016 and registered here in this forum at the start of 2018. Right from the beginning, India was never favorable to Bitcoin in general and our media has been promoting the underlying technology and bitcoin in a bad light. Recently, we just got back our trading rights through the Supreme Court Judgement! Though we speak English for majority of the time in our country, Regional Languages or Languages being used in rural/urban India plays a major role in bringing any kind of web/mobile application to a wider reach among the targeted users.

An Indian High school student should speak better English than this regional local language to cherish in his career. This is how we have been taught and this is how most of us had been brought up but I would never argue this is wrong and at the same time betraying our own local language for the promotion of a foreign language like English shouldn't be encouraged upon. English had become mandatory for every one of us to survive in a corporate world and in order to sustain in India. But I have a firm belief that Regional Languages still play a role to connect any new idea to the regional people. This has been quite evident from the sales of newspapers. Even today, a regional language newspaper sells higher in number than a English paper like "The Hindu" or "Indian Express" .

Similarly I feel like the primary satoshi Bitcoin client should be present in our Regional Languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali as well.

I've been working on the translation work for over 6 months (both bitcoin.org and Bitcoin Core) when my real life allows me to do so. I speak, read and write 3 of the major languages and Tamil is one among them. There was over 10-20% automated translations made by various Indians prior to myself getting involved in the process and I started the Tamil translation from scratch. I thereby tried to re-edit and translate majority of the whole software in Tamil.

Finally after the recent translation merges in github and the release of 0.19.1 Tamil becomes the First Indian Language to be present in Bitcoin Core.  Cool

How to Upgrade Bitcoin Core to Tamil

Download link:

https://bitcoincore.org/bin/bitcoin-core-0.19.1/

If you are running an older version, shut it down. Wait until it has completely
shut down (which might take a few minutes for older versions), then run the
installer (on Windows) or just copy over /Applications/Bitcoin-Qt (on Mac)
or bitcoind/bitcoin-qt (on Linux).

Once you have installed Bitcoin Core in your PC, click on

Settings -> Options -> Open Configuration File

Once you have clicked upon the "Open Configuration File", an empty notepad will be opening up. Type

Code:
lang=ta

in the notepad, click on Save and close the notepad. Close the Bitcoin Core application and reopen it again. You will be viewing and using the Tamil Version of Bitcoin Core.

Please Note : The Tamil translation is in final stages of review and I would probably be finishing it up in the 0.20 release. Till then, there would be minor bugs in grammar and stuffs. I have started working on the bitcoin.org Tamil translation and simultaneously working on Hindi and Telugu versions of Bitcoin Core as well.

Screenshots:

How to translate Bitcoin Core in other Indian Languages:

The translations of Bitcoin Core primarily occurs on a translation website called Transifex

The complete process for translating Bitcoin Core in your native Indian languages is listed here : Translating Bitcoin Core

Thanks to akhjob for motivating and helping me in translating the application in Tamil.

597  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does anyone pay for slandering gambling websites on Bitcointalk? on: March 10, 2020, 05:57:47 PM
Slandering has been a form of promotion in this forum right from the beginning of signature campaigns and ICO bounty campaigns. Right back in 2016-2017-2018, scam ICO companies hired many individuals to promote their project and to post false claims favoring the project in the forum. As a result, these individuals created many newbie bumping accounts and have been spamming bullshit about the scam project and there had been various cases of such scenarios from time to time.

Recently after the severe downtrend and scams of ICOs, a start-up gambling company is the newer methodology to scam newbies and subsequently rob their bitcoins. These promotional newbie accounts spam malicious links which could lead to bitcoin stealing script sites or a phishing gambling site which might gain access to your private keys.

I would suggest newbie gamblers to stay away from such scams and continue gambling in trustworthy sites like freebitco, FJ, PlayBetr, Bitsler and CryptoGames. Well apart from these, new gambling sites might be verified for authenticity based on testing the gambling operations like investing smaller amounts.
598  Other / Meta / Re: Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: March 10, 2020, 09:32:30 AM
We have a similar situation there. Right now it's much better though. The merit/post ratio is much better than I expected.
The Indonesian board is a knowledge hub for many Indonesian bitcoiners who really don't have a good command with English, but in India we approximately speak over 22 different languages all over our country and this is why English is being referred to as a common language all over the country and has been an official language for Indian netizens.

This is also the reason why, some really good topics made by Indian members are being posted in global boards for better exposure rather than the Indian sub-board. Probably this situation wouldn't change and I would say this is really good since many global members are being educated by the topic as well and it's not being restricted only to Indians. But to increase the activity, we are thinking up of bringing the global topics through translation to Indian board so that our people who aren't really well versed with English might gain knowledge on the topic.
599  Other / Meta / Re: Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: March 10, 2020, 04:10:25 AM
With the recent legalization of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in India, I believe there would be a significant rise of activity in our Indian local board. Statistics which would be counted upon from March might have a difference (increase) in activity while comparing to previous months.

Prior to the appointment of the merit source in our local, the whole board was lacking quality and was infested with spams which were being posted for the sake of gaining post count. Apart from this, there was no improvement in the total activity of the board and most of the users have moved onto the global boards and significantly the interest in the local board started diminishing as well.

Are the Russian and French sections significantly under-merited, for example, or is it that the Spanish and Indian sections are over-merited?
From a practical view point, some topics and posts in Indian section deserves more than a merit and most of the posts doesn't deserve even a single merit. Also, I merit based on the exposure of a particular topic since 90% of our board is in English. For instance, if a topic is posted in global English board it might receive 4-5 merits on a whole and when they are posted in local board they would receive the same exposure of 4-5 merits as well. Well, if my memory serves right I have never given more than a 5 at one single merit tx for a post/topic.
600  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you stop gambling in a time of crisis? on: March 09, 2020, 06:32:07 PM
There is always a saying like, "Gamble what you can afford to lose". Gambling is considered as a form of game/entertainment which will help us in relaxing our minds from work. We play games like Football, Chess and Cricket during leisure times to boost our energy and get back to work actively. Similarly gambling should be considered as a form of entertainment and this is how the gambling industry should work. Rather most of the gamblers think in the quite opposite way and lose most of their hard earned money in gambling.

Addictive gamblers like the one who will never care about the global crisis gamble even if they suffer severe losses and only have a little more than a few pennies to gamble and lose. I always consider gambling as a form of entertainment and I would gamble only the amount which I can afford to lose. So from my point of view, when there is a global crisis and if my business/work on the verge of being collapsed, I would stay away from investments and other sorts of entertainment stuffs which demands my money. But from an addictive gambler perspective, I don't think they would stop even during adverse conditions and would continue unless they have lost all their money through gambling.
