OMG, if you think Bitcoinica is complex, log into *any* [practice] forex trading platform.  There is no way to get more simple than Bitcoinica.  I'm actually looking forward to *more* features.

Bug report - The little grey question marks next to "Net Value" and "Maintenance" work fine if you mouseover, but if you click them the pop-up notification will not go away no matter where you click after.  Have to refresh page to get it to go away.  Hides the values underneath.

I've been using Bitcoinica for a month now and I should know this by now, and I'm going to sound like an idiot asking it, but what is the difference between holding USD or holding BTC in the "Currency Account"?  Looking for an in depth answer on that if possible.

Are you looking forward to some big "I told you so" party?

Yes.

But who would be around to celebrate with you?
His alts.  Called sock puppets on this forum for some reason.

I just realized it's a market order only.  Can't do a limit.
588  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This Week in Bitcoin on: November 29, 2011, 07:14:35 PM
So is this going to be like TWiT?  TWiB?  Film it in the new brickhouse studios!
589  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!! on: November 29, 2011, 06:25:52 PM
This drama will play out several times over the next year or so as you guys trade bitcoin into oblivion.
Some people don't care what the price of 1 BTC is, they just care that it fluctuates.  I don't care how much BTC I have, I just care that I'm making 5-10% profits off each trade.  Like in Forex, I don't care how much 1 GBP or EUR is worth, I just care that I can pull 20+ pips or whatever out of a trade.
590  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!! on: November 29, 2011, 06:18:41 PM
Thank you again manipulator bitcoinica margin calls!
I would really like to believe Bitcoinica is to blame for massive price swings.  I know they did margin calls and brought it to under $2 for a millisecond.  However, have they admitted to putting up the gigantic 50,000 BTC walls?  I think Bitcoinica just executes large trades instantaneously. The "manipulator" I speak of uses a bot also, but that bot puts up huge walls that can, and have, been blown through and caused huge swings.  In the end we have two major players here, Mr. Manip and Bitcoinica.

Nice, way more intuitive.  Whoah, wait a tick... Now that they added "Exchange", does that mean I can trade just like I trade on gox?
592  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!! on: November 29, 2011, 05:10:22 PM
And, that be profit takin'!  Shocked
I need it to correct just a little bit more and I can take my profits.  Nice little bubble to trade on.  Thank you again manipulator!
593  Economy / Speculation / Re: 70k bidwall at $2.65 on: November 29, 2011, 02:51:02 AM
Cant catch a break on my buy back. Gonna have to take an even bigger loss by the looks of it.
I'm not giving up hope that this is a little rally that will crash back down to 2.50 levels again.  Not gonna take the loss!  I've set up multiple buy back orders on the way down.
594  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: glitches in market data on: November 29, 2011, 02:22:51 AM
glitch in the matrix. not the first time it has happened and won't be the last.

How do I tell a glitch from legitimate data?  This one is obvious, but how do I know there aren't less obvious glitches? How do I know that the whole MtGox price is not a glitch?  As much as I generally appreciate the service MtGox has been offering, problems like this one make me wish for a third-party audit.

That chart isn't exactly designed to be used as a tool to aid in trading decisions.. It's really neet to look at but if you want info to use for your trading activity you want to look at the ticker and orderbook in a more structured manner. i.e., write a script for it or use one of the many trading apps out there that will let you plug in api data.
I used it all the time to make major trading decisions.  It is the best way for me to see the depth chart visually.  I can see the walls and position my buys/sells in front of them so that when the price really starts to swing I can catch the swing instead of being on the other side of the wall and miss out entirely.
595  Economy / Speculation / Re: 70k bidwall at $2.65 on: November 29, 2011, 01:31:06 AM
The real question is show those of us who were trading on small margins and just got burned back buy in now before it goes even further?
Good question.
596  Economy / Speculation / Re: 70k bidwall at $2.65 on: November 29, 2011, 01:11:02 AM
Well tell him to reverse the tactic again!  I'm better at trading in a falling market dangit!
597  Economy / Speculation / Re: 70k bidwall at $2.65 on: November 29, 2011, 01:09:22 AM
holy crap i guess im screwed for trying to buy back in at 2.44

(add)

Good thing its only 3 bitcoins worth.
I'm in the same boat.  Trading went flat last couple days.  Tried pulling some piddly 2-3% day trades off and buy back in at 2.40-2.45 and *bam*, now this huge spike.  Fail.

599  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA development board "Icarus" for mining purpose - PCB design file released on: November 27, 2011, 10:10:33 PM
Looked at the schematics for the PCB.  From what little I know about circuit design and building (I come from a background of designing/building amplifiers) it looks very nice.  Especially the power supply section.
600  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who is riding the roller coaster? on: November 25, 2011, 05:47:12 PM
I really wish I had some money in Mt Gox right now. It's all locked up behind Bitcoinica's wide and slow spread as I watch the 10% price swings pass by
This is why I don't like bitcoinica.  The spreads are massive and lag a lot.  The price has to move 10-15% and stay there in order to profit just a little bit.  Meanwhile, on mtgox I can be flinging buys and sells left and right, sucking up at least 5% profits each time.  Every time I make a trade on bitcoinica it seems to take 2-3 days before I can liquidate.  I'm more of a day trader than a swing trader like that.  I'm still experimenting, but I'm getting nowhere.  Who the heck is making money off Bitcoinica?
