581  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: CryptoExchange's lagging API on: July 02, 2012, 05:53:57 AM
Maybe they want CryptoXchange to be as bad as Gox, and bot trade it to death.

Probably the wider issue (and it is not just crypto that has it) is easily extracting currency.
582  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What is the highest number of shares you have mined in one session? on: July 02, 2012, 04:57:15 AM
To start this (and I'm too lazy to get a screenshot) I have a box with 400k-430k shares (2x5970 with 100k+ on each core).

Edit: 10Jul12 - noticed it's over 600k - I'll grab a screen shot when it gets to 1M and I can be bothered plugging in a keyboard.
583  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] BDK, Monthly Profit Split from Lending Operations **CONTRACT CHANGE** on: July 01, 2012, 07:25:31 AM
Do I need to read all of that? Damn it's long and I'm not interested to do anything more today (because it's the end of the weekend and burbon is not stopping me checking speelling) - is there a short version?
584  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BitFlowSystems IPO on: July 01, 2012, 01:03:10 AM

  • Attempting to change the purpose of the company without ever putting it to a vote.  While you did retain a 51% majority, there should have still been a public vote on it.  Instead, on July 09, 2011, 01:15:24 PM, you announced that you were taking the company in a different direction.

Just for the record, even a 51% shareholder can not unilaterally change the purpose of a company.  The fancy term is "ultra vires", but what it really means is that any other shareholder should come after you and extract their pound of flesh for unlawfully taking their money.
585  Economy / Lending / Re: Btc loan request 4.5btc on: July 01, 2012, 12:06:52 AM
Watching with interest because I pm'd an offer and have not heard back.
586  Economy / Services / Re: [Completed] Device drivers - old and hard to find - BTC bounty on: June 30, 2012, 09:54:30 PM
The drivers worked.  Took a few goes to find a floppy that I could write the files to (part of the install), but it picked up the two FC HBAs no problem and then spotted the RAID array on the restart.

The files I was looking for from 1996/97 were not there, so they're obviously gone from another computer years ago (shame).
587  Economy / Services / Re: [WTB] Device drivers - old and hard to find - BTC bounty on: June 30, 2012, 07:28:48 AM
Thanks guys - I will test tomorrow.  Stupid HP site didn't get me to those locations this time around.
588  Economy / Services / [Completed] Device drivers - old and hard to find - BTC bounty on: June 30, 2012, 04:35:05 AM
I am in need of a device driver for an older piece of equipment, and having spent quite a lot of time on this, have decided to offer a BTC bounty for a valid/working version.  Not making it easier is the fact there are two OS's that are acceptable and two similar cards.

OS: XP or W2k  (if you come up with Win95, Win98, Win server 2k3 that would be ok but less desirable - Win98 would be the preference from those.)

Device part number:
161290-001 also know as 120186-B21 or
005106-001

These are Compaq fibre channel (FC) host bus adaptors (HBA) for PCI running 66MHz.  They are used to connect from either a dual xeon III server (PowerEdge2650) or a PE2550 (dual P3) to a SCSI external raid array.  It happens that there is some information on the RAID array that I think is there and useful.  Various rebuilds over the years and my original versions are not available.

Minimum bounty is 2BTC (not knowing what is a fair sum).
589  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Interviews for Bitcoin Magazine on: June 30, 2012, 04:25:44 AM
Mike Masnick of Techdirt. I would be surprised if he didn't already lurk here, though interested if he has a forum account I've encountered before. Used to read  Techdirt religiously when I had time. Now, I browse the forum, write up stuff in Google Docs, occasionally glance at daughter to make sure she's not swallowing knives, and that's about it. Seriously... I must spend something like 4 hours a day on this forum, now - it's insane.

Only four hours/day?
590  Economy / Lending / Re: halal-shariah compliant deposit on: June 30, 2012, 02:38:37 AM
And also to clarify, 7Seas is not aiming to take business away from IBB (that is not in my interest to do so - no pun intended it's so weak).

7Seas also has access to spare capital that Starfish might have lying around so some of the loans might be larger than Sen wishes to take on because he fulfils a very important role in the lending section.  For those, I'll be providing those funds at zero percent, much like the initial 100 coins I've put into it.
591  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Starfish BCB - Loans and Deposits (deposit rate 1.5%/week from 1 July) on: June 30, 2012, 12:32:07 AM
Updated balances table at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=61262.msg981017#msg981017

And to save you adding it up, total deposits are 9081.0846
592  Economy / Securities / Re: [fund] 7Seas Fund (shariah compliant) on: June 29, 2012, 11:40:21 PM
Doesn't allowing bonds conflict with not being able to charge interest? Also, regarding the single loan that is Shariah compliant, in which of the categories does it belong?

(I'm just being curious/nosy, feel free to refuse to answer Wink)

I am not at liberty to disclose the use to which the loan is being put notwithstanding the fact I don't actually know, other than it is a reputable person that I was happy to provide funds to without additional ID.  It is also difficult to say a specific 1 BTC out of a 1000 BTC can't be used to pay for something as that's not identifiable.

Nowhere in this is 7Seas charging interest or providing fixed interest returns.

pieppiep: I am not strongly religious (raised a catholic), but understand the need for different religions and cultural viewpoints.  This, however, is a business issue rather than something that needs to be debated as to the merits or otherwise of a particular dogma.  Similarly, there will be people that wish to have an ethical investment, and 7Seas meets that requirement too.
593  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Starfish BCB - Loans and Deposits (deposit rate 1.5%/week from 1 July) on: June 29, 2012, 09:27:50 PM
Cool, edited out the old table, it would be easiest to find though if you put an up-dated table in a new post (I'll C&P it to one otherwise just so that I can find it easily  Wink ) & that would leave the old one/s as useful historical records imo. Also I'm still not quite clear on exactly which day (& UTC) the compound interest gets paid/credited, many thanks  Smiley
When I update I'll post a notification and a link.  I'll be doing the update soon (I was busy posting up a new instrument over in securities).

596  Economy / Securities / [fund] 7Seas Fund (shariah compliant) on: June 29, 2012, 09:23:25 PM
Starfish BCB is opening a new fund to meet the needs of customers that require a shariah compliant investment.  Therefore, after working with Senbonzakura I am pleased to introduce the:

7Seas Fund (shariah compliant)

The 7Seas Fund is a pooled investment.
As a shariah compliant fund, there are no guarantees of returns and no guarantees are given, expressed or implied.  Returns are linked to the underlying investments.

Participants may request a fund account address from me via pm.
There is currently no limit on the size of investment that can be made.
Any returns are allocated on the basis of the capital contributed as a percentage of the total.
Payouts are of any surplus generated rather than retained.  Re-investment by participants is allowed.  Schedule is planned for monthly.
Starfish BCB will not charge a fee for administering 7Seas, but commits to having a minimum of 100 BTC allocated to the fund.

Investments
Investments and allocation of fund resources will be screened and determined according to the prohibited sectors (briefly set out below).
Initial allocations will not exceed more than 20% of the fund size into any one venture.
Exposure to personal and/or business loans will not exceed 50% of the fund size.
This allocation policy may mean coins sit idle while suitable investments are found.

Shariah Compliant Instruments
Murabaha (Profit – sharing)
Musharakah (Joint ventures)
Mudarabah (Financing)
Ijara (Renting)
Istisnaa (Industrial - Financing)
Takaful (Islamic Joint Insurance)
Sukuk (Islamic Bonds)
Stock or Equity Investing

Prohibitions
Gharar (Literal meaning: to deceive, cheat, delude, lure, entice)
Maysir (gambling, bets and wager where whatever one profits is at the cost of others)
Prohibited Business Activities (eg. Alcoholic, Cigarette)
Riba (Interest)
Alcohol, Pork-Related Products,
Conventional Financial Services (Banking, Insurance Etc.),
Entertainment (Hotels, Casino/ Gambling, Cinema, Pornography, Music Etc.),
Tobacco, Weapons and Defense Industries.

Compliance
I consider having a Senbonzakura/IBB stamp of approval vitally important.  Sen and the IBB has agreed to work with StarFish to provide shariah compliance oversight on an as required basis.

Commencement and operations
At commencement, Starfish will be allocating its current shariah compliant loans to the 7Seas Fund.  While this is only a single loan around 20BTC, it is a start.
Each month basic fund metrics will be published showing fund size, active investments, and returns.
597  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Starfish BCB - Loans and Deposits (deposit rate 1.5%/week from 1 July) on: June 29, 2012, 08:56:07 PM
Hi Otoh, Yes, I was planning on updating the interest weekly.  Yesterday got a bit complicated, and I have additional accounts to add to the list, so will be doing it today (overwriting the previous list).  If you would like to edit out the table, that would be good so it doesn't confuse things.
598  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for 15 BTC Loan Over 14 Days - 10% on: June 29, 2012, 05:22:21 AM
I look away for a few minutes, and this guy gets confirmed.  Probably because none of his stories stacked up and I kept with my decision not to lend.  I hope no one got too burned by this.

For reference, the initial request I received was 600, then 300, then 100, then a couple at 75.

wow, some big numbers there.  Yea he initiated a few(what appeared like good transactions at the time) and went running to every lending source he could find.

We never know though. Could be we are all judgemental assholes and the guy just has a lot on his plate and will pull through...  I'd much rather be flagged as an asshole though than see more people get scammed.

I got in touch with one of his references.  The "I'm working for this guy and what he's paying will cover the loan" came back as "yeah, I spoke to him, but nothing definite"

The change in value, asking many people at the same time, inconsistent post stories, and the special "I already have two Minirigs" in the pm posted by yochdog https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=88738.msg978095#msg978095 were hard to go past.
599  Economy / Lending / Re: halal-shariah compliant deposit on: June 29, 2012, 05:18:27 AM

Cool beans...

Im not muslim, but I think this is a nice opportunity for Sen ...

Tell us more about the weaving biz your into ?  and how that came about ?

I might get banned for being off topic (quickly slips in this would qualify as shariah lending because it's zero interest and an approved/permitted activity):

A couple of years ago my wife was reading about the Stansborough business in a weekend paper and they were looking for some funding.  We got in touch, funded a pile of cash, helped them sort out some of the problems they were facing.  There was some "yadda yadda yadda" and the current set up was formed.  There is more on their web site, and they work on some of the local productions.  As an example, I saw the new Gandalf scarf a few months ago and it was huge (long and wide).

They have their own special flock of sheep, 100+ year old looms and some really great product - a little niche, but reasonable price for the quality.  World-wide shipping is normal and the range is quite good.

I posted https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=29027.0 a year ago if people wanted to buy with BTC, but it gets buried there quite quickly.

I like this thread...

 Smiley

This alpaca stuff sounds crazy enough to work Smiley

I don't own any of the alpacas, but if someone was interested I could check with the people that own/run the farm - they are the main ones behind the weaving business I got involved with a couple of years ago.

As for the on-topic thread, following a discussion with Sen earlier, the fund has a name and I need to write it up tomorrow in the securities section.
