581  Economy / Economics / Re: Food prices in Germany - Tell me what you want to know on: October 25, 2022, 04:21:41 PM
I know from my experience that midrange supermarkets have had a better chance of keeping their costs low because they have fewer expenses and aren't still trying to expand (like the cheaper stores are).

I don't know for how long more this will be but I imagine it'll change as the cheaper chains grow further and still take over the market (unless the larger, more expensive stores rebrand - but I don't think they need to).

They seem well stocked with oil and as the above post said, exports were halted and have returned since (after a few deals with struck) - I think it was the same for grain too and with similar prosperity after the "deals" that were made or alternative imports routes were found.
582  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Beware of fake Coinmarketcap! on: October 25, 2022, 04:04:34 PM
I was just browsing some random stuff on Google and then this appeared on my search. See image below.
This is not the first time scammers are making fake CMC websites and posting google ads for that.
My suggestion is to install some ad blocking extension like uBlock Origin, or just use browsers with integrated adblockers like Librewolf (based on Firefox) or Brave browser (based on Chromium).
With this you won't see most of the ads on all websites including youtube, but you can whitelist Bitcointalk forum Wink

Brave isn't completely ad free (if you click to receive ads) and I've not used librewolf to know how it works. Getting rid of trackers by using brave is a good start but you have one of the biggest suggestions you're into crypto if brave declares itself as brave browser to the websites you're connecting to (unless they've managed to mask that).

Don't trust any ads with funds too even if they look legit. It doesn't take much time to retype a Web link or search via multiple search engines to see if what you have found is the legit site before parting with any information. Even buying something with a card, it's much safer to use a site that's trusted and searchable than to use one that's findable from.an ad.

I think these sorts of scam trends are generally ones picking on people who are either tired or distracted (not concentrating too) as a lot of users who know what they're doing under normal circumstances would just reject or close such popups (just closing comes with its own problems too because then you probably still have it as a pending request you might accidentally click).
583  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian University Vows to Build 7nm Chipmaking Tools on: October 24, 2022, 03:32:17 PM
I thought China would be more suited to.making something like this. Huawei already have the rights to produce their own arm chips, are they also made in Taiwan? (a quick search says they at least were in 2020 so probably still are).

Most of the patents for current chips are held by the US, UK or Japan so I think that's going to be one of the main things making the sanctions harder on Russia. I don't know if there's a reason for Russia to produce their own 7nm chips though, I'm not sure why they'd need so much efficiency and there might also be a competing architecture that gets open sourced by then (even just to spite them). Intel chips normally have 45nm technology with moderate energy consumption, smaller energy consumption machines (like arm with smaller chip sizes) are good for control units (such as on peripherals) so they don't need much power, but they're not an necessity imo.

It's unclear what the majority of anti tank weapons used in Ukraine are but I know the ones gifted from Europe come with components that mean the course of the missile can be changed in flight if a tank tries to "camouflage" it's infrared signals - if these are the main types in use there, there's a good chance an arm controller isn't needed as it'll be quite useless. The only other thing I could think is GPS/inertial guidance or object avoidance systems (if those are a thing) which might be the reason they have problems building them.

I wonder if the chip shortage has been the reason Russian fighter jets have been crashing into each other though too (or if it's just inexperienced/stressed pilots).
584  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Leverage investment strategy during bull market on: October 24, 2022, 02:17:49 PM
My experience and issue with trading on exhcnsges for holding positions is that the fees are normally too high if you're doing something like that.

I opened at 20x long around the $20k region on the way up and held it for a few months, I sold at $63k for about 150% of the value (in bitcoin) I put in (the fees ate up the rest). It did perform better than the spot market but based off the risk and how bored I was checking the position I don't think I'll be trying it again.
585  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Early Is It Now, For Those Who Missed Bitcoin In Its Early Days? on: October 24, 2022, 01:53:08 PM
Most early investors lost a lot of unrealised gains too and this is something that's gone mostly ignored because a few people have made money out of it (some and probably quite a lot were wealthy before it and have gained money from their exposure or saying they were exposed to it).

If you're arriving "late" your options are going to be:
1. Invest in bitcoin because no one can predict the future and it could go a lot higher realistically.
2. Invest in stocks and learn how to do that, you'll risk a lot less of a loss and won't have the above issues of a beginners misfortune (such as lost keys or exchange hacks).
3. Invest in alt coins that actually look like they're innovating and constantly rebalance your portfolio (this is why most avoid altcoins and don't bother with them - if you're not going to actively monitor what you're invested it you're just going to throw money away and benefit others who will).
586  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What possible reasons made Satoshi bow out from the crypto scene?? on: October 24, 2022, 12:13:35 AM
There's a good chance they didn't want to pass too much influence on bitcoin or that they expected bitcoin to be a prototype that lead on to further chains and perhaps extra features to drive usability (such as smart contracts or block intervals).

They might have considered themselves to be at risk too if they stayed in public scope or to be overwhelmed by enquiries for commercial or education related activities.

They might have found something else to focus on too, there's probably a lot of people that start and run projects for a few years and then move on from them once it looks like there's a strong enough team behind it.
587  Other / Off-topic / Re: What about a smartphone keyboard on: October 23, 2022, 08:05:08 PM
There's at least 4 ways I can think of a smart phone keyboard being attacked:
1. The physical hardware of either a USB or Bluetooth keyboard (lots work without special drivers but if you need a special adapter for it then that can also carry malware as well as the keyboard itself being able to connect to the Internet via the phone to relay information).

2. The most likely way is downloading a keyboard with additional features that comes with malware that can see what you type as you type it in your keyboard..

3. Downloading some sort of app that allows for accessibility or productivity improvements and giving it access to your keyboard.

4. Anything that can record or log what's going on on your screen (including the coordinates of where touches happen) but this one is easiest to do if something like predictive text is also installed and shows suggestions to the attacker.
588  Other / Meta / Re: Will mods/admins approve of this? on: October 23, 2022, 12:32:27 PM
I don't think it's a bad idea but I think it'd be better for bounty managers to ask for account numbers instead of usernames and then the forum's search engine would pick up these alt accounts at a much more reliable rate and without being intensive as intensive on users trying to input this information.as there might be a lot without a bot that could do it. .

589  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could 17.5k BTC actually be 13-14k pre-inflation? on: October 23, 2022, 12:21:54 PM
It could be but I don't think it makes a difference to.much except thinking out loud.

A lot of people look at asset values without the scope of inflation so they'll probably see bitcoins value being similar to when it was last at 17.5k (before the rallies to 60k).

The other issue with this is the s&p500 and a lot of other assets are on sale (/cheaper) in terms of both inflation and current valuations compared to the past.
590  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Bonds on: October 23, 2022, 01:52:07 AM
I don't think there would be enough trust in a system like this. Either for the bond issuer or the bond buyer, what happens if there's a problem along the way for selling the bond and how is this much different than what can already be done manually (or perhaps with some simple automation)? It's recommended you hold an investment in bitcoin for more than 5 years to make a profit (if you're going to hold) I think one year would bring too much volatility that it could completely crash out an asset like this - especially if the expiration dates are all on the same day or a lot coincide...

El Salvador tried making a bitcoin bond that works like a normal fiat bond but was collateralised by bitcoin but was unable to sell any of them (at least that was the news last time).
591  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it important to have a niche in this forum or not on: October 23, 2022, 01:45:49 AM
I don't think you should force yourself to do either.

If you're more comfortable focusing on one thing for a while then you should do that, if not it'll be useless.

If you're a newbie here I think trying to get a broad sense of everything is a good start. If you're focusing on one thing you'll have to keep going from widening your content exposure to reducing it (repeatedly) and I don't think that's a good way to start unless you don't know how to find other things or only have one specific interest at the time you started here.

If you're interested in crypto you'll do much better being interested in that on here than you will be by having interest in the forum (a lot of users a skeptical of newer users who try to police the forum too as soon as they arrive via reputation topics and trust).
592  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Limit order higher or lower than spread in opposite side? on: October 23, 2022, 01:39:13 AM
Most exchanges automatically adjust and it'll depend on what your quote was in as to how much you'd get.

If you limit bought 1btc at 19100 and the current ask was 19000 then you'd get 1btc and spend 19000. If, however, you spent 19100 on a limit order at 19100 with the same ask as above, you'd get ~1.0052 btc.
593  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: We are group of long experinced traders try our Free signals on: October 23, 2022, 01:33:39 AM
You'll probably do better by posting your signals here as well as on telegram and then slowly moving across once you've got reputation. Your channel looks quite empty at the moment and there's a lot of spam on telegram as it is.

In the future, you will ask for money why?
Obviously, why would you share a free signal? if you are an experienced trader why not make money with your skill?

A lot of signallers offer free and paid versions of their service, it just seems to be a done thing (some.have more accuracy on their free ones and some have more accuracy on paid ones, the difference is normally the frequency.

I may be guilty of using free (and some paid for) channels as a good way to track volatility and possible moves (similar to how I'd use an indicator like the rsi).

If you are an experienced trader why not become a trade instructor/teacher and offer some courses on udemy?

There's probably a lot of these channels even though a lot of information is freely available on the Internet.
594  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Crypto-assets can have significant environmental impacts on: October 22, 2022, 05:06:56 PM
Crypto produces lots of greenhouse gas emissions because electricity production does. Until Airlines stop being subsidised by the governments and start being powered by electricity I don't think this is going to change - one of the biggest polluters, especially per person.

Most of the other electricity being produced could go to being 100% renewable within a year, there's just been little incentive on governments to do it (there's also been less of an acceptance of making global power grid structures like the Internet has which would also greatly reduce and standardise everyone's electricity costs - even if companies have the option to withdraw).

Governments banning crypto mining might be a misdirected influence attempt from certain countries to monopolise on the mining industry further than has already been done too - as crypto mining with non renewables was already fairly infeasible in a lot of Europe especially from sources that aren't nuclear or renewable.
595  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best Strategies for Trading. on: October 22, 2022, 04:39:21 PM
If you've got enough fund in your wallet and a decent investment already to risk only a few percent, you could try making calls on whether you think something will go up or down. Look at how others have traded based on technical analysis, learn how support and resistance works and look at learning how to spot technical patterns yourself (this should take a few months to learn if done right). You can only trade these certain strategies at specific times so it's best to come up with rules at points (ie, one loss makes you stop trading for the day, three days of losses means you take some time to do something else - you could switch to forex or stocks or just give up and find some reading or research to do and return a week or two later to see if the uncertainty has left).

If you don't have a solid investment you can borrow funds from, focus on building that and keeping it. You can add some of the strategies mentioned above to it but you should decide whether you want to focus on accumulation and only buy supports or whether you should sell resistances too (you can do this with a few % and just keep buying if we go lower after reaching a new higher price). DCA can turn out to be more profitible than this, your chances of that being more profitible than this is generally based on the market and fairly random but it can teach you a skill.
596  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are privacy coins already dying on: October 22, 2022, 04:30:04 PM
Monero is performing better than bitcoin imo over the past few weeks (I'm not sure if it'll stay that way or not - it might be more stable compared to fiat).

Grin has really high inflation - it's good for adoption and incentivising mining but bad for its price - even with inflation factored in, its current valuation is far too low.

A lot of exchanges banned privacy coins or started confiscating them from non kyc accounts which was probably one of the main problems they've faced - dexes have come out but they either came too late or are too primitive (I think privacy coins will do well over a longer term provided they're not replaced by better). I think grin and xmr have very active developer communities though too.
597  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What do I need to know has a newbie on: October 22, 2022, 04:19:45 PM
Crypto is unlikely to do well as a hedge against inflation immediately if you live in a country with fairly low levels. If you're in a country with high levels, investing in stablecoins like usdc, dai or usdt can provide good stability against the dollar but might come with some risks.

I wouldn't recommend investing in bitcoin with more than you could afford to lose or going straight into a discipline like trading because you might get discouraged and just leave if the value of your investment seems to fall.

Bitcoin and other cryptos are a good method for accepting payments for goods or services if you have hobbies that are marketable or can work to maintain a hedge against inflation.
598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: The first ever Gambling Metaverse on: October 22, 2022, 04:10:52 PM
I'm not sure if it's obvious from the op what they're site is so I found the start of a description on their website (trying to keep it brief but with enough info).

Quote
Dragon's Tale is home to games unlike any other casino. You wont find a craps table, roulette wheel, or black jack dealer like in other online gaming sites. Instead you will discover a persistent 3D world filled with original games designed to attract casino gamblers and MMORPG players alike. While about half of the games in Dragon's Tale are simple as a slot machine, others require deep thought and skill. In addition to solo games we've also included unique player versus player games so patrons can stack their wits against others. Scroll your mouse over a game icon to view a short description, or visit the Dragon's Tale Wiki to get a more in depth look.

It looks like an interesting concept that might have something working well behind it but the lack of adverts have probably stunted its growth (games might take a long time to be matchmade too for pvp versions).

I'd be skeptical of how little it's being advertised though in case it has quite a few bugs and they're trying to keep it fairly hidden until those are fixed - unless it had its hayday and re-emerged as a lot of companies and products do (like wearable tech).
599  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How important are exchanges? on: October 21, 2022, 02:16:43 PM
Both centralised exchanges and decentralised ones have helped with access in some ways but I think their scope is quite limited (especially for cexes).

I don't actually think it's down to exchanges that means crypto adoption has happened that much. If everything was peer to peer it'd still function much the same way and probably a similar safety.

There's likely been a lot of scam exchanges that have done worse for the space and the lack of adoption by larger and more traditional companies - as well as some banks banning companies like coinbase which have done well to hinder adoption.

I'd say faucets in the time when I joined provided a much better onramp to cryptocurrency than exchanges did (especially for learning how things work).
600  Other / Meta / Re: What is wrong with this? Can it be considered a signature? on: October 21, 2022, 01:49:47 PM
Well, I post some bitcointalk forum links once in while, when necessary, under my posts. I do this especially when I feel people will be confused without them.

I think this is something to also be discouraged unless there's only one or two links there (preferably you'd only link your last topic on a similar subject and do that on the other threads so it's easier to traverse an read without being considered spammy or unnecessary).

You could also just bump your old thread with the new information too.

I searched for the meaning of Forum Signature, I guess you should do too. If my colored links qualify as signatures then what stops my "Related Posts" links in plain texts which I also use occasionally from being reported as signature?
Nothing stops anything from being "reported" and you might still have people reporting them and perhaps occasions where something is reported enough that a moderator acts on it too when the issue is only minor. As I attempted to say above, if it's unique and relevant enough it probably won't be acted on by the mods.

I wonder if certain threads I created can do without them. I think there should be clear definition of what signature means, so my related posts don't also get reported as signature.

Generally: signatures include advertising and are the same size as a signature text (and might have other hints with them too).
It's up to the moderators how they define and enforce this sort of thing so it's unlikely you'll get a clear definition of what is acceptable and what isn't.

The rule was only mainly brought in to try to stop people from extending their own signature spaces and to prohibit those with signature bans from evading the rules and posting signatures in their posts instead.
