Hat off to the blogger that was interviewed, a very capable speaker.

I suppose it's a user of the board... does someone knows his nick?

that's mike gogulski of nostate.com
awesome guy.

Gogulski has been around bitcoin since early days ... he is a leading thinker on monetary science, imho, and can cast the issues very logically and succinctly.

"Monetary value is a social consensus" ... "banks are stealing human energy via their current dysfunctional system" ... and many other very powerful concepts in the war of ideas.

Thanks Mike!
5862  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-05-17 EFF Resumes accepting BitCoin on: May 17, 2013, 09:51:53 PM
the beauty of this announcement is that it comes AFTER the DHS seizure of Mutum Sigellum and AFTER Fincen guidelines.

Actually, it's the FinCEN guidelines that seem to have been crucial in getting them to resume accepting Bitcoin donations.

I think this maybe it ... they were right there on the 'frontier' one step behind the brave .gov-crats ... forging into the cryptographic unknown, sheesh, what a bunch of weiners. (in corduroys though)  Roll Eyes

Bitcoin is just a toy currency (that's what all those economics Professors and Gurus from the Fed were saying last year) ... sure why not play on-line games with it?
5864  Bitcoin / Press / 2013-05-17 Zerohedge - Peter Thiel Gets Bicoin Bug on: May 17, 2013, 02:02:33 AM

Quote
Today we learn that another very high profile investor has plunged into the Bitcoin pool.  In this case it’s Peter Thiel, and his investment is in BTC merchant processor Bitpay, a company I have highlighted previously on several occasions.  Back in March I noted that the company was putting up mind-boggling growth rate numbers.  Incredibly, the tremendous growth rate continues as they added another 1,900 merchants in April and are currently signing up around 100 additional merchants a day.

Mostly a repost/link  to another article.

All the evidence you need to know that Russia is actually ahead of USA in terms of freedom to do business ...

We have another huge problems with doing business here in Russia.
So, actual freedom & safety is "Russia + Some offshore(s)" business model. WebMoney uses it successfully.

Yeah, well then it is a case of pick your flavour of gangster ... seems the russian gangsters are more accomodating than the USA gangsters in this area of 'business'.

Also, instead of disseminating the heat, theoretically mining device could convert it back to electricity. If I get it right, any contrast in temperature can be used to generate electricity. Not sure how efficient it would be though.

5867  Economy / Speculation / Re: The death of Mt Gox will End Bitcoin on: May 17, 2013, 12:32:47 AM
Anti-fragile ...

... this will actually serve to make bitcoin more quickly stronger as the hostile elements in its environment reveal their tactics. It is learning right now, dissecting the legal rulings, watching the reactions, listening to talking-heads who wield influence, looking for weakness in their arguments, openings to exploit, ways to route around. This is how technology networks grow, it is somewhat incidental that it deals with value transfer and storage, but adds some serious oomph and incentivisation to innovate rapidly.

Innovate. Evaluate. Iterate.

The more they engage with it and show their hand, the faster Bitcoin can learn ... they are damned if they do and damned if they don't now.

All the evidence you need to know that Russia is actually ahead of USA in terms of freedom to do business ...

... when will the yoke of USA corrupted banking/monetary system be come too much to carry for the US citizens?

It seems there is no amount of abuse and criminality from the banks they are willing to put up with, hey even reward them for with bonuses drawn straight from tax-payer bail-out funds.

Land of the Free? ... more like Land of the Farce.

BTW, bad news for Americans.

5870  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-05-15 [ARStech] Feds reveal the search warrant used to seize Mt Gox account on: May 16, 2013, 11:09:19 AM
So someone intentionally made false declaration when opening a bank account. That's illegal anyway, no matter it's related to btc or not

There is a plausible defense for the statement in 2011.  Nobody anywhere in the government (any government) had made any type of guidance, determination, or regulation regarding Bitcoin being a currency or that a Bitcoin exchange was a MSB or money transmitter.  Now not registering as a MSB AFTER FinCEN released its guidance in March 2013.  Well that is another story.  Not sure why MtGox didn't do that or how they expected FinCEN to simply ignore their lack of registration.

Government regulation specifically defined "currency" as something issued by a government,  a guidance is not a piece of law.

This ^^ ... would be interested to know the statue (letter and verse) that is supposed to have precipitated such a jack-booted re-action? God it must have been a matter of extreme criminality or national security or something ... I didn't notice anybody claiming they were defrauded or robbed or anything like by Jon Corzine's  MF effing GLOBAL or anything?

Where were they seizing banksters' bonuses 'funds' when the real big cons were taking place?

Um, nowhere to be seen, ask JP Morgan they appeared to escape any funds seizures or accounts closed down pre-emptively. Rule of Law? Show me the Law. Or they are just a bunch of gangsters pretending to play law.
5871  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should Peter Vessenes resign as the Executive Director for Bitcoin Foundation ? on: May 16, 2013, 12:42:00 AM
Starting to get a little stinky ... especially if there is any link between DHS action against Mt. Gox and Vessenes/Draper/etc.

Interesting, I wonder if there is a way to make it do look ups from a local namecoin+ncproxy or similar?
5874  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-05-14 Department of Homeland Security Shuts Down Dwolla Payments to/frm Gox on: May 15, 2013, 08:00:29 AM
all USD funds going into Mt. Gox go through ONE Dwolla account it seems
Huh?! No. A lot of people do direct wire transfers with mtgox, no dwolla involved at all. Mtgox supports a good half dozen transfer mechanisms.

Oops, I meant to say "... all USD Dwolla funds going into Gox goes through one Dwolla account ... " ... good catch hawk-eye. And it actually should be USD Dwolla funds coming/going to Mt. Gox on further reading.

We should all just pack up and go back to our socialist paradises now and be thankful for crumbs from the bankster masters tables.
5876  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [announce] Namecoin - a distributed naming system based on Bitcoin on: May 15, 2013, 06:06:05 AM
I've nearly got a port working based on the bitcoinjs-server nodejs library, as well. I've gotten it to connect to the peer network, though it seems there's some difference in how the block difficulty progression is calculated for NMC... Once I get that and add the logic for the NMC-specific Scripts, that will be another option for end users to run locally via Node, and as a web framework for web applications as well!

You might have seen this already?

http://sourceforge.net/projects/namecoinj/

It seems to work, is a little buggy but i don't think anybody really trusted because of the big fat binary buried inside the jar ball ...
5877  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox account in the USA has been seized by the DHS? on: May 15, 2013, 02:15:06 AM
I have funds that are "stuck", sent money from Mt. Gox to Dwolla this afternoon.  Balance is gone from Mt. Gox but obviously isn't in Dwolla -- hopefully Mt. Gox credits my account back the withdrawal that never happened.

Same, I have a few hundred in limbo. Really wish they would just credit my account back. They have to take the hit no matter what happens to my funds in limbo, so just give me my $$ back.

I have a feeling that you can probably kiss that money good-bye ... goes for anybody with anything in Dwolla Mutum Sigilium account transiting to/from Mt. Gox.

Seizure warrants are to seize the alleged proceeds of crime before the "criminals" can have a chance to state their case in court. A sealed warrant and etc means they are going to go full "anti-terrorist" mode and do everything behind closed doors, secret courts, etc .... basically the money is gone, locked up in secret legal battles to infinity, which suits the Feds just fine.

Did you think all the Libertarians were idiotic tinfoil-hatters crying wolf about the big bad out of control govt.? Just watch.
5878  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BitPay Hires Bitcoin Core-Developer Jeff Garzik on: May 15, 2013, 02:08:35 AM
Devs are "allowed" to make money you know.

Congratulations.
It can certainly represent a conflict of interest. But it's no problem, I've long realized Bitcoin won't change anything fundamentally. Even in a success scenario, the block chain would be limited with extraorbitant fees for transactions, making it only possible for crypto fat cats to make use of Bitcoin's actual properties. The plebs would again be exposed to centralization and "banks", necessarily. Trust is not removed, only shifted.

I digress. Grin

Don't worry Blitz ... people are out there working on the next layer for the "plebs" to enjoy bitcoin-like freedom too .... trust "noone".
5879  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-05-14 Department of Homeland Security Shuts Down Dwolla Payments to/frm Gox on: May 15, 2013, 02:05:30 AM
I knew this was coming, but I didn't see the bastards acting so soon. Its depressing, frankly. While I do know there are other exchanges and local trades won't be impeded - it bothers me that these overstepping bastards have the gall to take their blue-gloved groping into an area they barely comprehend.

There's a small chance this is a hoax, and another chance its just the first shot in the campaign to attack bitcoin.

I'm not giving up, but godammit - this really pisses me off.

It is an obvious soft target ... all USD funds going into Mt. Gox go through ONE Dwolla account it seems. Pretty easy to apply pressure there with a sealed seizure warrant so they don't have to tell anybody anything anytime and just do it ... tie it up in courts for years. This is how LE operates these days since they got everything they wanted with the "anti-terrorism" overreach legislation and woeful judiciary rulings ... basically above the law. Suppose just be glad you aren't rotting in Gitmo for a decade waiting for a hearing. Symptomatic of the sick system ... ask anyone from former communist states how this is all playing out, they've seen it all before.
5880  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: bitcoinpresscenter.org is the true GLOBAL press center - 18 languages! on: May 15, 2013, 01:57:24 AM
Good work Andreas. I move that this post be stickied in this section ...

... also wondering if there is any policy regarding pseudononymous "experts" getting posted to the press center?

I think your idea just got vetoed by jgarzik who not only didn't make it sticky, but instead pushed it out of the forum. That's probably because it is not about press mentions and citations, so off-topic.

Ugh, so much for inclusivity ... suspect it was a final FU for not getting his way with THE other press center. In the old days, initiatives like this would have been welcomed and stickied gratefully. Now the power plays and jealous temper tantrums seem to be the order of things.

If this is not press related wtf is?!
