How did you escape from the farm, if you have?

I took the red pill...

Reality is in the eye of the beholder... if you are angry or sad and depressed, it is your own mental construction... people are trapped inside their own mental prisons and haven't figured out they put themselves there... I made the conscious choice to no longer be angry, sad or depressed no matter what happens.  It is all just an illusion/simulation/game anyway

Life became much easier since taking the red pill... I no longer care what other people think I should be doing with my time, etc... I don't follow the rules of society, like working 40 hours a week to buy the new gadget that I will get bored with in a week... It's all silly anyway... I might as well do what makes me happy instead of doing what society tells me I should be doing (because most people who do what society says, are not happy)

I just don't know how none of these bombs actually succeeded in killing their targets.

Rich people don't open their own mail, it's that simple

High profile people like Obama and the Clintons probably get hundreds if not thousands of letters every day... a lot of it will be hate mail and death threats... they don't open any of that themselves, who has the time?  They have plenty of money to hire someone to open their mail, read it, and tell them if anything is worth looking at.

Kings have always employed food tasters to check for poison in their dinner before eating.  This is no different

For god sake folks, this could have been done by the Russians to try to strike fear and divide in the country. It seems like they're succeeding. As you have the right calling this an inside job and you have Democrats (like flying hellfish) saying that the entire Republican party supports this.

We're better than this folks, come on. If this is them (or someone else trying to divide the country) they're doing a good job.

I'll admit the timing is suspicious.  It is an October Surprise.  Realistically it could be anyone... to quote myself from earlier, "Republican vs Democrat is a silly game that rich people play to keep us fighting against each other instead of fighting them"
63  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Religion is a virus on: October 25, 2018, 01:51:28 PM
Now world religion is a controlling tool of spreading war. They are not following even what religion said.So political is binding with religion and they using it for improving racism and separate people. As humans we have a huge responsibility to minimize this problem. We must spreading humanity except racism.Religion must not going to parents to children.People can be choose what they following or not.

Religion doesn't start war, its a facade - people do. That said, blanket statements about religion are rarely ever helpful considering the vast array of religions out there.

Semantics... religions do start wars

Wars are started because people refuse to settle differences through talking... religious people have no interest in settling differences with people of other religions... the majority of "holy" books (Bible, Quran, etc) state that you are commanded by god to murder anyone who even tries to convert you to another religion, even if it is your own family, parents or children trying to convert you.

If you don't believe that religious differences have started wars... you are willfully ignorant

Also, there is not a "vast array of religions out there"... I can count the religions of the world on 2 hands... 1 hand on a good day (jew, christian, muslim, hindu, buddhist)

Congrats, you're happily perpetuating ignorance.

You cant say both religions start war and then say they start because "people have no interest in settling differences".
If they are all the religions you've been exposed to, then let's be careful not to assume they are completely representative.
Finally, blanket statements about the "majority of 'holy' books" was just errant on so many levels, I just hope people don't fall for these unsubstantiated claims.

If you are going to say I'm wrong, please provide an example

I have read the entire Hebrew bible, and the Christian bible.  I have read large sections of the Qur'an, Zohar, Book of Mormon, Bhagavad Gita, Mahabharata, the Pali Canon, Tao Te Ching, and Tibetan book of the dead.  I have read Socrates and Plato.  I have read Apocryphal books that didn't make it into the canonized bible... Let me know when you have studied all the world religions, and read each of their holy books... then perhaps we can have a debate about it

Please explain how I'm wrong about Jews, Christians and Muslims having zero interest in settling their differences... When have you ever seen Jews, Christians or Muslims do anything but sling hatred and bombs at each other?

"a pursuit or interest followed with great devotion." - Dictionary definition

Please understand that dictionary definitions are specific to the context that the word is used... this definition is only used when in a context like, "to make a religion of fighting prejudice"

The primary definition is always listed first:

1.    a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
2.    a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.
3.    the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions.
4.    the life or state of a monk, nun, etc.: to enter religion.
5.    the practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith.
6.    something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience: to make a religion of fighting prejudice.
7.    religions, Archaic . religious rites: painted priests performing religions deep into the night.
8.    Archaic . strict faithfulness; devotion: a religion to one's vow.

Idioms

9.    get religion , Informal .
to acquire a deep conviction of the validity of religious beliefs and practices.
to resolve to mend one's errant ways: The company got religion and stopped making dangerous products.

To pretend that the 6th definition of religion is the primary one, is not being intellectually honest (Also note, the 6th definition is the last to not be labelled "Archaic")

We have a moral duty to be honest. This duty is especially important when we share ideas that can inform or persuade others.

Intellectual honesty is honesty in the acquisition, analysis, and transmission of ideas. A person is being intellectually honest when he or she, knowing the truth, states that truth. Intellectual honesty pertains to any communication intended to inform or persuade. This includes all forms of scholarship, consequential conversations such as dialogue, debate, (...)

try reading the Qur'an.

I tried listening to the Qur'an on youtube.  Hearing it in Arabic was interesting, they sing it like it is a song...

In English, it is pathetic, worse than the bible...  I could only listen to about the first 30 minutes because I learned absolutely nothing about anything... it started out proclaiming how great God is, then immediately started bashing non-believers... every other sentence was something like, "there will be people who don't believe this, but they are stupid"... with zero facts or evidence to justify their claims

I tried skipping ahead to somewhere in the middle of the Qur'an, about 8 hours into the video, but it was just more of the same... I heard some nonsense about Noah, as if some guy over 1000 years later would know anything extra that the bible left out of the story:

Quote from: Qur'an, sura 66, (At-Tahrim), ayah 10
Allah sets forth, for an example to the Unbelievers, the wife of Noah and the wife of Lut: they were (respectively) under two of our righteous servants, but they were false to their (husbands), and they profited nothing before Allah on their account, but were told: "Enter ye the Fire along with (others) that enter!"

There was zero useful information in there... it was all just bashing non-believers and proclaiming that Allah is amazing

I listened to less than 10% of the book, but it was horrible, and I learned exactly zero information about life, the universe, or anything... every sentence was complete horse-shit

As for the simulation argument, well, we cannot say for sure as there are many things in the quantum world that are just plain weird.  Impossible to represent on the computer.  Then you have to deal with singularities that have been predicted to exist by math.

A computer only needs to compute things that are being observed... this has been known in video games since, forever

There is no reason for a video game to computer individual atoms, nor is there a reason for a simulation to compute individual atoms

We can already create virtual reality that is almost indistinguishable from actual reality, and we've only been using computers for ~40 years... how hard would it be to distinguish virtual reality from actual reality in another 100 years, or 1,000,000 years?  How much more complex will the simulations be in a million years?

What would even be the point of traveling 1000 light years to another planet, when we can simulate it right here? (probably why we've never been visited by aliens)
68  Other / Politics & Society / Re: China Launching an Artificial Moon on: October 25, 2018, 12:36:11 PM
Some people are worried about global warming... China is trying to reflect more sunlight onto the planet at night... brilliant
69  Other / Politics & Society / Re: AI represents our desire to create God on: October 25, 2018, 12:22:33 PM
Another one which I don't often see mentioned in this context is the simulation hypothesis, which is almost exactly deism. In fact, the simulation hypothesis is similar in some ways to the ancient cosmological argument for the existence of god.

I thought AI and the simulation hypothesis went hand-in-hand...

Assuming AI is invented, and survives for thousands or millions of years, getting better and faster the whole time... eventually it will end up creating a new simulation... the only question is, has that already happened?

What are the odds that this is the first universe, rather than one of the infinitely many, embedded simulations, which are going to happen in the future? (1 chance out of infinity is as low as the odds can go)

I stand with Elon Musk on the simulation theory paradox... It appears nearly impossible that we are not already in a simulation

That being said, I see almost no difference between the simulation theory and something like Buddhism with reincarnation... they are basically the same thing to me
70  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The difference between science and religion on: October 25, 2018, 12:13:28 PM
don't agree with you. Science and religion answer different questions: science is about describing the world around, religion is about answering the question of what's after death. if you define them correctly, you'll see there's nothing to argue about...

The problem is religion tries to do more than simply answer questions about death... religion suppresses women, gays, abortion, drugs, and many other things... the bible has thousands of pages, and very few talk about death or the afterlife...

Quote from: Deuteronomy 22:28-29
If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.

What does this have to do with answering questions about the afterlife?

Is this a good rule to follow in 2018?
71  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Religion is a virus on: October 25, 2018, 12:01:55 PM
the problem is not in religions, it's in false understanding of dogmas. if you indulge fully in a religion, you have no intention of suppressing those around you

Depends on the religion... I would only agree in the case of Hinduism or Buddhism... those 2 get along with other religions

Muslims and Christians have been fighting each other for over a thousand years... Muslims love to suppress others (women are 3rd class citizens - lower than children, majority think apostates should be killed, gays should be killed, etc)... Christians love to suppress others (examples include anti-gay marriage laws, anti-abortion laws, anti-drug/alcohol laws)  Religion loves to take away the choice from people who don't even believe in their religion!

Christians hate "Sharia Law", but they love imposing their own believe system on everyone (gays, abortion, drugs, etc)

Until people realize the left is the right.

Until people realize the right is the left.

There is no hope for us all.

Republican vs Democrat is a silly game that rich people play to keep us fighting against each other instead of fighting them

There is a reason they keep it pretty close to 50%/50% for 200+ years... it is not an accident that the control keeps swapping back and forth between parties every 8 years... this is all by design

If one party was truly better than the other, we wouldn't have such a 50/50 split... they both try to be evil enough that they only get 50% of the vote

More people hate the other party more than they like their own... everyone knows their own party lies to them (unless they are completely ignorant)... it is never a choice between the best person for the job... it is always a choice between the lesser of two evils... because both parties always nominate someone evil
73  Other / Politics & Society / Re: AI represents our desire to create God on: October 25, 2018, 11:43:42 AM
I don't think people have any desire to create God... What makes you think a computer could answer the big questions better than a human?

I think people have a tendency to be more productive, and use more energy of the planet.  Most of this is due to greed, money and power (control over other people).  Computers are a resource to be more productive and make more money than your competitors.  This is all that is needed for AI to advance... it is a tool to obtain more money and power.

Most people say AI is inevitable, and perhaps it has been since the invention of the water wheel or steam engine

All we can really do is hope that our new robot overlords treat us better than the people/animals we have conquered...

I am sure this is all just a coincidence that all these people promoting this invasion caravan stuff suddenly are all getting "bombs" in the mail...

It truly amazes me that some people can completely dismiss multiple high profile democrats receiving bombs in the mail...

Would you dismiss it so easily if multiple republicans and Fox News got mailed bombs?  I'm guessing not since I have seen your hypocrisy before

Post all the parts of those Bible books that DON'T talk about the things I said.

Btw, nobody has asked you "to post every verse from the bible to prove it is not in there."

When someone can't remember what they posted yesterday...  Shocked

I realize I said I wouldn't respond to him anymore... but come the fuck on man

This just hit the news all over the place

Explosive Devices Sent to Clintons, Obama and CNN
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/24/nyregion/clinton-obama-explosive-device.html

Quote
Explosive devices were sent to former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as to CNN’s offices in New York, sparking an intense investigation on Wednesday into whether a bomber is going after targets that have often been the subject of right-wing ire.

A law enforcement official said the three devices were similar to one found Monday at the home of George Soros, the billionaire philanthropist and liberal donor who has come under fierce criticism from conservatives and conspiracy theorists.

None of the devices harmed anyone. Law enforcement officials said they were investigating whether all the devices were sent by the same person or persons.

Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Obama, Mr. Soros and CNN have all figured prominently in the pantheon of conservative political attacks — many of which have been led by President Trump. He has often referred to major news organizations as “the enemy of the people,” and has had a particular animus for CNN.

8 Things Your Pastor Will Never Tell You About the Bible
http://friendlyatheist.patheos.com/2014/09/29/8-things-your-pastor-will-never-tell-you-about-the-bible/

Quote
1) The Apostles of Jesus Seem to Have Known Nothing about a Virgin Birth (Romans 1:3-4)
2) Jesus Said He Wanted to Offer Nothing to Gentiles (Matthew 10:5, Matthew 15:21-28, Galatians 2:11-14)
3) Jesus Tells Everyone Not to Think of Him as God in the First Three Gospels (Matthew 19:17, Mark 10:18, Luke 18:19)
4) The Resurrection Appearances in the Gospels Have Irreconcilable Differences (The gospels of Matthew and Mark place the appearances solely in Galilee. However, Luke, as well as the book of Acts, has Jesus appearing only in and around Jerusalem. To add to the confusion, the Gospel of John shows Jesus appearing in both Galilee and Jerusalem)
5) Jesus Was Against Public Prayer (Matthew 6:1-5)
6) Some Books of the Bible Are Forgeries (1 and 2 Timothy and Titus)
7) Parts of the Bible Were Intentionally Written to Disagree with Other Parts of the Bible (Psalm 51)
8] Apostles Who Had Been Taught by Jesus Himself Insisted that Paul Was Wrong about the Gospel (Galatians 1:6-9, 2 Corinthians 11:5-13)

Question for the peanut gallery...

If someone claims that something is in the bible, and I dispute that claim (because the bible does not say that)...

Would it be more reasonable for the person claiming that something is in the bible to post a verse from the bible proving it is there, or would it be more reasonable for me to post every verse of the bible which does not say that?  (who seriously asks someone to post every verse from the bible to prove it is not in there?!?)

I don't know what the "any of that" is that you are talking about

If you have anything in particular that you are talking about, spit it out with particulars rather than with some general "ANY of that."

By "any of that", I mean literally every single sentence in your response... the bible doesn't say any of that

The Hell of "Socrates, Buddha, Gandhi and all the Rock Bands that ever rocked" is a fake hell that is called a heaven

Where is this in the bible?  Got a chapter and verse?

The real Hell is the dissolution of this universe... which includes the spirit and soul and eternity and infinity.

Where is this?

The real Heaven is an entirely new universe that is made out of physics laws that can never be corrupted like this one was.

Where is this?

The joy that was originally in this universe before corruption entered, will be greatly improved upon in the new universe.

Where is this?

Probably eternity and infinity will be expanded and extended in ways that we can't understand in this faulty universe... but without corruption.

None of that is in the bible... have you even read the bible?

The descriptions of heaven in the bible consist of only a few sentences talking about streets of gold... none of the stuff you said is in the bible

it is scattered here and there, and is a compilation of things from several places in the Bible. Since you know the Bible so well, you show me where it is. I already started you off with places to look - Isaiah, Revelations, Hebrews. What's the matter? You want me to do all your research for you?

I told you it isn't in there and you just proved it by not posting a single chapter or verse

I'm done responding to you because you lack intellectual honesty.

This includes all forms of scholarship, consequential conversations such as dialogue, debate, negotiations, product and service descriptions, various forms of persuasion, and public communications such as announcements, speeches, lectures, instruction, presentations, publications, declarations, briefings, news releases, policy statements, reports, religious instructions, social media posts, and journalism including not only prose and speech, but graphs, photographs, and other means of expression.
