Good luck getting some.
602  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: June 10, 2011, 09:47:08 PM

From right to left are my 5850, 5850, 5870, and 6870.  Running at 1.2 GHsh right now.

The extra fans help keep temps at right around 66 deg.
603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 10btc reward for fix (5850 or 5870 no post issue) on: June 10, 2011, 02:52:47 AM
Try to bridge the pci-e slot to force VGA detection, even if its a x16 slot, i noticed some problems booting up 58xx and 68xx on some mbs, especially older ones, bridge it to force detection fixed it in most cases.

No matter if its a x16 slot, just bridge those pins.

to "TheGer"; yeah, you are right in that, my main rig is based on a M2N4 SLI mb, with 4 Sapphire xtreme HD5850, 3 of those boot up just fine in any of the x16 slots, but one of them negates to boot up on the pci-e x16 slots for some reason!, bridging the x16 slot to force vga detection fixed the problem. And i had to bridge the x1 slots for all cards.

is no one reading anything? I already posted this solution, but the OP is not responding to the thread, just posting in other ones

Maybe he's avoiding payment of the 10btc reward.
604  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Quad GPU help, 2x5870 2x6870 on: June 09, 2011, 02:38:01 PM
You need to extend your desktop to the other cards.
605  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Will this 4xGPU rig work? v2 on: June 07, 2011, 10:17:53 PM
Be careful with these boards.  I just found out the hard way that these Asus M4 series have a tendency of turning off some of your PCIE slots when others are in use.
606  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Quad crossfire 5870 or do I use adaptors? on: June 07, 2011, 08:19:33 PM
You'll need dummy plugs for the cards not connected to a monitor if you're going to use XP.  Don't worry.  Your cards will come with DVI to VGA connectors and cutting the resistors for the dummy monitor is dead simple.

607  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Quad crossfire 5870 or do I use adaptors? on: June 07, 2011, 06:49:36 PM
You'll be able to fit 10 of your cards without adapters, but you'll need 10 adapters for the other 10 cards.  Starting from the top of the board, you'll put in 2 cards.  That will fill the first 4 slots.

The two PCIE slots at the bottom will be open still, but you want to use both of them.  If you put in another card in the second to last slot, you'll be covering the last slot, as your card is going to be 2 slots wide.  So if you want to use both those last slots, you'll need 2 adapters, one for each.  2 adapters per board is a total of 10 adapters.

And you should be able to run these adapters.

608  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 2 cards listed in device manager, only first shows up in GUIMiner on: June 04, 2011, 06:15:51 PM
No.  One should be fine, but you'll need to pick that port to extend the desktop, or else Windows will think there's nothing there.
609  Economy / Economics / Re: Whats wrong with hoarding bitcoins? on: June 04, 2011, 04:44:36 PM
An economy can't function if nobody spends any money.

But the fact that it is money means that people spend it.  This simple taughtology invalidates the most common and erroneous criticisms of Bitcoin.
610  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 2 cards listed in device manager, only first shows up in GUIMiner on: June 04, 2011, 04:27:57 PM
Make sure you have a monitor attached to it or a dummy plug.  Then extend you desktop to it.  Quit guiminer and restart it.
611  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: MotherBoard pci-e 1x on: June 04, 2011, 02:08:17 PM
See, even if I only run 1 card out of the 1x slot, Windows still won't see it.  It's driving me mad.

I'm halfway tempted to attempt to trade my two 5850's for something more substantial, so I can run only 2 cards in slots that I know work.
612  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: MotherBoard pci-e 1x on: June 04, 2011, 01:04:40 PM
Hmm... I tried that shorting solution last night with no effect.  Although it's difficult to tell if the wire is actuall touching the metal correctly...  Hmm...  Might need to just ask Asus.  I never would have figured that putting in two cards on the 16x slot would disable my 1x slot.
613  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Will Windows XP support 3 gpus? on: June 04, 2011, 01:02:31 PM
I can't extend the display because Windows doesn't even seem to know it's there.  With my two cards, I have 4 "HD 5800's" or something like that when I right click on CCC.  That's where I can extend the display on the second card.  But with three cards, there should be 6, so I'd have my primary display on #1, extend #3, and extend #5.  That way all three cards are turned on.

It's like it's not plugged in.  But I know it is because the fan on it is spinning.
614  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: MotherBoard pci-e 1x on: June 04, 2011, 01:30:02 AM
I have a board with a 1x slot like that and it refuses to see the card, even when I have only one card in that slot.  The fan spins, but no video and no windows recognition of it.  How do I find out if the slot, with my riser, is compatible with a 5850?
615  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Will Windows XP support 3 gpus? on: June 03, 2011, 03:32:40 PM
I've heard conflicting things.  Some say yes, others say no.

I can get 2 to run, but the third seems to be completely invisible to Windows XP.

I'm running 2 5850's and a 5870.  I can only get Windows to see 2 at a time.  I have my monitor on 1 and dummy plugs in the others.

Fun times.
617  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Any reason why my first 5850 runs fine while my second crashes? on: June 02, 2011, 08:37:22 PM
Actually, it looks like the problem is centered around whether or not a dummy plug is used.  I've plugged in a real monitor and they are running, although not at full speed.  I will look at them further later.

****  Additionally, if I watch the GUIMiner, the cards will randomly have "connection problem"s, which seems to slow them down, and then the get back up to speed again.  This happens every 20 seconds or so.
618  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Any reason why my first 5850 runs fine while my second crashes? on: June 02, 2011, 04:47:16 PM
Nope.  Done and still the problem persists.  Either card will work but they will not work together.  At least now the ATI Overdrive monitor shows the correct workload percentage.

****  Actually, only the primary device 0 card will work with any consistency.  If I try to run the other card alone it quickly fails.
619  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Any reason why my first 5850 runs fine while my second crashes? on: June 02, 2011, 03:20:36 PM
Yes.  Same issue.  Also, when I have CCC open, I can monitor the workload on each card.  The 5850 goes to 100% and the 5870 never goes above 0%.
620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Any reason why my first 5850 runs fine while my second crashes? on: June 02, 2011, 03:11:28 PM
When the 5870 crashes, it is at 48C.
