any other news ? Is LTBcoin and Permacredits gonna make waves like maidsafe ?

in my opinion no - this is an organically growing project - which is totally fine. https://www.counterparty.co/counterparty-founders-inside-bitcoins-hong-kong

there three reasons for the very low market cap: 1.) the widespread distribution and still relatively good prices to sell for burners. 2.) there is in fact not much use for the currency xcp until now (despite dividend function - I think this will change) 3.) uncertainty due to the discussion with bitcoin core developers.

bitcoins killer app regarding volatility and usability would be if you could use them as collateral to lend something into existence. the incentive for non-hoarding would be given by merchants who would offer a discount due to missing or almost missing transaction costs.

daniel larimer is trying this with his bitshares - it would be MUCH easier with bitcoins

I still have the same problem: wallet starts without error, btc-qt is running an up to date, but when I click on "open wallet" or "casino" nothing happens.

any suggestions?

?

Am I the only one with this problem?
have the same problem

try to run as administrator or configure the config - had the problem before Smiley

do not take it personally

but the pegging of msc to btc was a catastrophe - for an elegant solution of using two currencies to start an ipo look how bitshares solved that problem with their snapshots and the angelshare bitshare donation adresses. i do not like daniel very much but they offer proper solutions for doing a fair ipo

Guys, did you see the absolutely chaotic IPO on Mastercoin ??

Mastercoin adress for IPO was removed 2 hours after launch.
MSC holders were very eager to dump at the fixed price and Maidsafe don't want MSC anymore...

EVERYBODY have foreseen it and let it know it could be catastrophic for Maidsafe, but each time investors was attacked/insulted by Mastercoiners , saying Maidsafe agreed a fixed price and 0,02 was the real MSC value, so there will be no manipulation...

Price is already -40%...

Many Investors bought MSC just for the IPO and now are stucked...Disgusting and shameful.

I don't want to make more MSC bashing, but all of this was foreseen.

I also think it is wrong to blame them but it is unprofessional - we can learn a lot from that in special and in general for auctions/IPO:

this is the way to use TWO currencies to create a new one: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=1631.0

up to 24 hrs

in counterparty protocol it is automatically, maybe this ipo was too early for mastercoin protocol - anyway soon cheap mastercoins to buy Smiley
608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Official Mastercoin Foundation, Master Protocol & Mastercoin Thread on: April 22, 2014, 12:03:23 PM
one gets the maidsafecoins immediately after sending to that adress?
609  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Official Mastercoin Foundation, Master Protocol & Mastercoin Thread on: April 22, 2014, 11:40:00 AM
they wanted it all in MSC, it was all getting converted for them...  by  the " safe address "

they only raised 2.5k BTC out 0f 18k so far

no idea how many MSC

45396 MSC at 1ARjWDkZ7kT9fwjPrjcQyvbXDkEySzKHwu

That is a lot of Mastercoin. But they still need to honor their agreement regarding how many maidsafe coins they give out.

so does sending to that address still work?
610  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Ann] Safecoin maidsafecoin on: April 21, 2014, 09:34:58 PM
But I think they need to include a hard cap.

Isn't there a cap of 4.3 billion safecoins?

Quote
The sale event will run until ten percent of all safecoins (429,496,729) are sold or 30 days have passed, which ever happens first.

Total safecoins will be ~4.3 billion

Sorry my bad, I must have skipped over it somehow....

even with the market cap I do not get why an appreciating price would be a good thing for the system. sorry but i did not find time to read the widepaper. but let us assume the price goes from 80 million market cap too 800m - will the price of let's say storing stay constant in safecoin terms or will it be a stable price in dollar or bitcoin terms?
611  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Official Mastercoin Foundation, Master Protocol & Mastercoin Thread on: April 21, 2014, 08:16:22 PM
with all respect, I have due to the rapid price increase of mastercoin almost the same amount of money in both projects, Counterparty Protocol is miles ahead regarding technology, usability and development, compared to Mastercoin Protocol. Of course Mastercoin has the money and what counts probably even more already contact to the big names in business. From my perspective there is absolutely no reason to directly attack one or the other, both projects will find its place.

Btw. I love the idea of maidsafe
612  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Biggest issue needed to be resolved? on: April 21, 2014, 02:56:34 PM
thought about daniel larimers idea of lending into existence yesterday for a long time. Even though I do not like his worldview that much, this is by far the best idea for mass adoption. Kudos to him.

Just imagine every bitcoin would behave like a small overly-collateralized (central) bank and could lend digital dollars (or every other asset) into existence. From an economics perspective it is quite complicated to invent a mechanism which would lead to parity between digital dollars and "real" dollars.

I assume with sidechains we see this mechanism become reality. It is like the best of both worlds.
613  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: April 20, 2014, 05:22:16 PM
read all the stuff - there were a few messages deleted, so I cannot see what you are arguing about. AFAIK they get their funds in parts in BTC and in parts in MSC - they use them for financing the project costs over the next years.

It is more for kickstarting mastercoin - let us see where this is going.

Anyway the XCP project is miles ahead regarding usability. When the financial market functions which directly need xcp are started counterparty will be much bigger.
614  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: April 20, 2014, 04:00:18 PM
I do not get Changs point - but anyway. David Johnston is more or less owning both projects (MSC and Maidsafe) with his angelfund. I think the only guy getting a somewhat strange deal in this arrangement is David Irwine, the maidsafe founder. I wondered from the beginning what he wants to do with all this mastercoins he gets.

I have an educated guess who the person exchanging the bitcoins for mastercoins is http://www.safecoin.io/ - especially after sowhing his great interest in ethereum Wink.

in my opion a great possibility to get order into the asset exchange:

616  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FlutterCoin FLT Official Information Thread on: April 18, 2014, 02:18:45 PM
wow - thought about this incentive model when nxt started.

brilliant idea - if you guys are serious this can be a success. i think the chinese will love it

just want to share my worst decision regarding cryptocurrencies, this is especially to tell the guys who want to sell. I bought ~300.000 Flutter that day hold them for like 5 days and sold them ALL with a loss of 40% - the market cap that time was less than 250k$. It was due to a mixture of facts and fud. NEVER FORGET THAT YOU ARE HOLDING VALUE THAT IS PROGRAMMABLE.
I hold around 5-7 different cryptos and never sold all at the time before and will probably never do it again. You have absolutely no idea how hard it is to buy back.

Even though I am not directly monetarily affected anymore gl with this coin - I still think my above statement is very true. Wink
617  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SKY] Skycoin Launch Announcement on: April 18, 2014, 02:02:34 PM
1 million coins (1%) will be sold for 50k in Bitcoin.

hm.

there are three explanations for me regarding that IPO

1.) most likely: you guys smoked too much crack

2.) you want to troll this community

3.) you guys are working for google to set up their own cryptocurrency - then I do not understand why you need so much money

edit: is it a language thing? - you want 50k Dollar in Bitcoins?
618  Economy / Economics / Re: STOP BUYING INTO ALT COINS , as you are indirectly hurting Bitcoin on: April 18, 2014, 01:19:42 PM
This lecture by Andreas Antonopoulos is really quite interesting in the Alt discussion:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHrjs7VkSGU

saw it yesterday - I think his argumentation is perfectly fine and economically sound.

There are innovations that are more cost effiecient (nxt and the guys around protoshares/bitshares), there are coins adding functionality to the bitcoin protocol like Mastercoin and Counterparty. There are coins trying to anonymize transfers like Darkcoin, Anoncoin or Zercoin/Zerocash. There will be ethereum for decentralization of contracts.

What Andreas is referring to is that even coins that look like complete clones to bitcoin, can also have value because people give them value by using them. Before that video I thought this does not make sense, because they do no really innovate - what makes them useless. Anyway I think I was wrong with that assumption, because you guys and me probably are completely underestimating sociological and cultural factors. You can basically make a political or cultural statement with the money you use NOW. Memes like Doge are nothing different than a cultural expression. This is on a metalevel a really interesting development.

Anyway does it hurt Bitcoin? In my opion not at all, Bitcoins function will probably be the one of the reserve currency. Ask yourself do you know how much a NXT or a litecoin or doge is worth in $, or do you know how much they are worth in btc Wink. In my opion there can only be two events which stop bitcoin from being the reserve currency of the internet.

well anyone get's close to the same deal now as us burners  Grin.

anyway we should make clear why this is such an important and interesting project, not just the protocol but also the underlying currency xcp.
