601  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC hash spike = BTC miners mining LTC and exchanging for BTC on: December 01, 2012, 10:26:46 PM
I don't much mind why the price spike, but glad I was around for it. I am interested in LTC, so I'll be following new developments more closely than before. I will be interested to see what the difficulty actually does in a few days.
602  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Consolidated Litecoin Mining Guide for 5xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx GPUs on: December 01, 2012, 07:47:55 PM
I am running Ubuntu 11.4 on USB, with 5870 cards, trying to utilize reaper to mine on a pool. Seems to boot up just fine, but won't find work. At first I thought to check pool-x, it seems to be down (or at least the website). So maybe that was why - so I tried connecting to Burnside's pool, but still get the same message, as though the connection isn't going out. Network is working, other headless ubuntu working fine... etc.. thoughts?

Edit

Just want to note that I fixed this by removing the "http". Now I am running 2x 5870 and 1x 5850, 600 khash or so. How can I improve that? I have tried increasing threads, but my khash drops to more like 400 450 when I increase threads per gpu. Running them lower (ie 3 nets 500, 1 per gpu nets 600khash total) seems to work better, but that can't be right.
Using

Aggro 16
worksize 128
sharethreads 1
per/gpu 1 (tried 3, 5)
gap 2
concur 8000 (seems to work less effectively lower)
longpolling yes

Any thoughts?

Install cgminer then use a command line.

Code:
cgminer --scrypt -o http://pool.to.mine:9332 -p password -u username --worksize 256,256,256 --thread-concurrency 8000,8000,8192 --vectors 4,4,4 -i 18,18,18 -g 1

Change around the 8192 to reflect its (the 5850) position in the machine if first then it goes at start middle then in middle last like I have it now. Set the speeds to around 770, 1050 engine/memory on the cards and you should be getting ~1 mh/s combined.

Edit: The command to change the speeds.

Code:
DISPLAY=:0 aticonfig --od-setclocks=770,1050 --adapter=all

Seems for some reason I couldn't get CGMiner to work, so that's why I ended up using Reaper. I will try CGMiner again with some suggestions !
603  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should I join Facebook? on: December 01, 2012, 07:12:19 PM
The situation isn't hypothetical. Facebook is like a walking profile that you fill out with intimate details for alphabet agencies to snoop upon. If you have one, sterilize it or make sure you only post what you don't mind others seeing, even if it is on "private". That said, I am on Facebook, but I post only what I want others to read on any level.

606  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: November 30, 2012, 10:06:37 PM
Was using 9.0 fine and suddenly on reboot was spammed with this message and it closes instantly when using:

https://i.imgur.com/W4We3.png

Now I downloaded 9.2 just in case, but it connects quickly, but never do my miners seem to connect.. not even on the host machine. Anyone..?

Firewall? Looks like its blocked somehow.

Fixed the problem, if there was any, with a reboot on 9.2 However still no explanation of 9.0 happenings.

612  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: November 28, 2012, 03:26:55 AM

thanks fcmatt, keep selling us your coins. are you done mining onces having / asics hits?

I am going to keep mining with the gpus until diff rises much higher.

The block reward halving, from the perspective of a miner, is as if the difficulty were to double.  No?

Sure, but if you heat with electricity anyway mining has no ongoing cost.

Heating a home with graphics cards costs the same as a furnace (in electricity)?   Cheesy
Best I can tell it is much cheaper to heat this home and areas with GPUs than our central heating and air. I wish I had this solution years ago.

What is the reasoning behind showing every single possible bet on the page for each pick rather than just ones that have been submitted? This makes them incredibly hard to read, and just seems completely unnecessary. If it was toggleable then I'd be satisfied.

We have added detailed/resumed views to the Pick pages, you can find the toggle below the numbers table. Whatever you choose will be used thereafter, assuming you have cookies enabled. Do let us know if it improves your experience.

Thanks for the feedback!

Love it already. I like both options being available.

Were you able to get your cash back through PayPal?

No. PayPal are facilitators of fraud. . 13 years business with the company but I am done (for more reasons than this singular incident).

If you had not called it a gift you would be able to just say you never got it.

Do a chargeback on your credit card, paypal will not be able to stop you.

What if the funds came from a PayPal balance though?
618  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BLOG] - The Full Faith and Credit of Wikipedia on: November 22, 2012, 02:36:32 PM

Lets face it.. fiat is not going to 'fail'

If that happened we would have total anarchy and I doubt many would be able to get to whatever was left of the internet.

I do believe btc will prosper as a commodity/currency.  Eventually more valuable then gold, but much more easily transferable and divisible. (note the eventually)
Anarchy is not a requirement for "failure". The freefall of value is failure enough for me. Things aren't getting better for USD over the next ten years.
619  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BLOG] - The Full Faith and Credit of Wikipedia on: November 22, 2012, 02:19:50 PM
I agree with others who say that it's time to give up on trying to get Wikipedia to accept B donations.

We all know the real reasons why they don't do it.

Simply don't send them any support! I am sure they will be fine with fiat donations from others, and our conscience should be clear when we continue to use it for free!  Grin

Trying to convince them to accept it, makes us look desperate and needy.

As i've said before, if Bitcoin is big-enough idea to succeed, it's big enough to speak for itself now. We should just use it and improve it, and stop begging others to accept it.

When the fiat house of cards implodes in the right places, my bet is many entities will change their mind about B.

At that time, the ones that did not support B these days, will not get a satoshi or any other currency from me either...  Tongue
I feel BTC will survive on its merits. BTC is financial freedom. Fiat is inevitable failure. I will stick with silver and my BTC.
