Did you email ian@bitcoin.com from above? If so what did he say?

You can also try reaching out to viabtc, they do have a twitter account:

https://twitter.com/viabtc
And a facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/viabtc

Although not very active they are there.

The bumping changes were supposed to help some, and I think they did.

You are never going to be able to clean it 100% due to the number of people that it would take to monitor it.

Removing sigs from that area much like some other areas might help. It also might not, don't know for sure there are sill people using bumping services that don't work so taht is kind of a tough guess.

Also...

Sometimes it's better to let the dumpster fire burn then throwing water on it trying to put it out.
You just wind up with a wet dumpster and a fire over a bigger area because of the grease and oil that was in the dumpster when you tried to put it out.

Do you really want the mods to have to combat worse spam on other boards because people are not getting paid to post there?

*Full disclosure that while posting this I am wearing a sig, if in the future I am not wearing one when someone reads this.

6063  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Generating a paper wallet securely on: November 03, 2019, 05:22:39 PM
Depends on how paranoid you want to be.
You say you are not a tech guy, but are you good enough to remove a drive from a PC and put in a new one.
Or, at least remove and destroy the drive?

You could get a copy of the paper wallet generator on an online PC and put it on a USB stick.
Bring it to a PC that is not online (no wi-fi no wired network connected)

Run the app
Generate wallet.
Print wallet.

Destroy both the usb stick and drive in the PC.

Done.

The above method is overkill, but just about foolproof.

If you have some more ability, then running DBAN to wipe the drive is just about as good.

You can also get some hardware wallets and do it that way.

https://opendime.com/

It generates an address. And until you punch the hole nobody in any way get to the private key.

You spelled Labyrinth wrong in the title you have it as Labyritnh.
Anyone looking via google or the forum search is not going to find it.

Just got an email from the owner to drop it to $150 shipped in the lower 48 states.
If nobody takes it at this price it's getting stripped for parts sooner or later.

6066  Economy / Reputation / Re: Cryptotalk 1 BTC Contest Manipulation on: November 03, 2019, 03:34:20 PM
Beginning with the disclosure that while posting this I am wearing their sig.

I think that there are many reasons for why they are doing what they are doing in the way they are doing it.
Most have been stated in this thread more or less:

May be I am completely wrong but this is what I assume the main reason behind the astonishing campaigning from Yobit merely for a forum: Yobit conducts IEO (ICO) once or so every month. Currently Yobit intimates users about these through email. But to increase the success of these ICOs, YoBit needs higher community participation. Due to bad reputation on Bitcointalk, it is hard for YoBit to announce IEOs on Bitcointalk. Hence they developed Cryptotalk as an asset to increase participation in coin funding and to catalyst their pump/dump operations.

And

When you have over 300K posts on your forum in a month, Google surely gonna crawl many of those and list these on Google Search. When you have organic crypto-oriented traffic coming to your site, even putting a broad header with 0.5% click-through rate can give you handsome number of investors.

"If you got big money, think of the bigger picture" - Yobit

And

I can only think of website rankings: according to worthofweb.com, their value more than doubled in less than a month. I don't think it's working much though, it's now worth 5 times more than worthofweb.com/loyce.club, while I didn't even try Tongue

Along with a few other rankings (Alexa, and such) the higher you get the more you can demand for ads.

Since the topic here shifted to why they are doing what they are, I am going to give my opinion about this.
It's a fucking trolling contest.
Both campaigns, the one managed here by yahoo, and their local campaign are just 2 middlefingers raised in bitcointalk's face.

This is some kind of twisted revenge for bitcointalk's banning of the YoBit campaign.

Possibly a tiny bit, but if you have 1000s and 1000s of BTC I can see them spending a bit.

And I am sure there are others.

What is also an interesting question is how deep their marketing and other data goes.
Do they know what BTC came in and what BTC went out and how much BTC was made due to people clicking on links in the sig.

That would be interesting to know.

It also depends what country you are in, South America is a bit vague.

6068  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Is there such a thing as a 2 of 3 phone wallet. (or any x of y for mobile) on: November 03, 2019, 02:50:28 PM
I'd go with Electrum, but as mentioned it only has Android support and not iOS. Would it not be possible to acquire a separate Android device just for this project or is that too much to bring along? I regularly see people carry two or even 3 mobile devices.

As I said above, we went with the BitPay wallet.
Since these are not scheduled transfers but more of a we need to move some BTC *now* thing always taking 2 phones with you would be a pain.

Since we went live with this (Oct 15) we have only had to transfer funds once so I can easily see the other people involved not carrying the 2nd phone after not needing it for a week....

6069  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Changes to the UK camper van conversion laws. on: November 02, 2019, 05:16:41 PM
The British government has just introduced some changed to the requirements for reregistering a vehicle as a camper van, There are some interesting new requirements.

- You have to have camper van decals on both sides of the van, and this is to allow the police to recognise it as a campervan.
- You have to have at least two windows on one side, and, no doubt, this is to allow the police to look at the interior.
- No "pop tops", and this would appear to be designed to stop camping in restricted height parking lots.
- You have to have an external awning rail, again this is probably for ease of identification.
- It has to be a high top van

There are obviously a number of interior changes required to make it habitable, and there are some restrictions on the vehicles that can be converted - not buses for example. With the increasing numbers of people moving out of standard housing to adopt a mobile lifestyle, I wonder if the gov. is panning to introduce restrictions on camper van parking in the future.

btw - pensioners selling their houses, and moving into camper vans are called "snowbirds".

Since my knowledge of British motoring comes from Top Gear. Are "camper vans" more like this:

or this?

It seems to be a generic term kind of like all copiers used to be "Xerox"

Just kind of interested, they have been getting regulated here for a while. Mostly because of shoddy construction has been killing people as they overloaded the frame and brakes. But when they 1st tried to stop people from putting 3 tons of crap on a frame built for 1 ton everyone freaked out. Then when you could not get insurance to cover them the industry relented a bit. Still a lot of them on the road are dangerous as hell.

And snowbirds in the US are people who move from the north to the south for the winter and then back north for the summer. 2 houses, you guys went the other way. 0 houses.

6070  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Questions regarding security on: November 02, 2019, 11:52:10 AM
Hi guys,

I've just purchased a Ledger and a Coinkite. The beauty of Coinkite hardware wallet is that you never have to connect it online. However, I am thinking: how can I be sure that the BIP39 seed they generate for me is actually randomly generated and not pre-programmed into the device? For example could Coinkite or Ledger could pre-program 1000's of seeds into the devices so that they know there is a high probability that I end up using one of these seeds?

For the ColdCard not only is the software open source so is the hardware:

Firmware:
https://github.com/Coldcard/firmware

Build your own hardware:
https://blog.coinkite.com/coldcard-hardware-shared/

So, yeah you can trust them.

6071  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin.conf and best configuration params for fast sync on: November 02, 2019, 12:38:29 AM
Mostly what the above people have said.
Also, important to note about drive performance is use the proper / newer chipset drivers.
Windows will by default install a base set of drivers that work. Usually Intel has better drivers on their site.

You should proabably move this to
Bitcoin Forum > Bitcoin > Bitcoin Technical Support    here -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=4.0
With that being said.

SSD or spinning drive? Old slow drives will drive up initial sync time. Crappy RAID setup will make it worse too. [been there...done that]

What gen i7 the original ones are over 10 years old. IT's n

Internet connection speed? You are going to have to download over 250 GB of data.

6075  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Fears/Backlash on ASIC mining and miner capitulazation with BTC/Crypto. POLL. on: October 31, 2019, 11:14:54 PM
Same thing has happened before. New gen stuff is coming, old gen stuff gets blown out.
I can't really come up with a good term, but lets call it "form factor" changes it's the same story.

When I am saying form factor I am encompassing the change from video cards to FPGA to small desktop ASIC to all the odd stuff like bitburners and the like to the S1/S3.
Since the S5 and newer outside of the R4 everything has been too loud and power hungry to rally run in your basement / garage without making major changes to power & cooling.

Since the S5 it's just been drop the price on the older slower stuff and bring out the new.

For the future, same old thing. The S1x stuff that we are running now will be S2x in 18 to 24 months....

And we will be having this conversation again.

Running log: Dropped to .095 on 6-Nov-2019
Running log: Dropped to .085 on 19-Nov-2019
Running log: Dropped to .070 on 30-Nov-2019

And it's sold.

The payment address will be: 155ivCJXDzPjpteAWirETku7AfQE9E4pEN

This is a moderated thread, but I will not just delete stuff out of hand, I just don't want a discussion about it.
No offers in the thread, if you want to make an offer send a PM I will forward it and get back to you. They are active on the forum but don't want to participate here.
Item is in my possession.

6079  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Do we need / does anybody want a single moderated announcement thread? on: October 30, 2019, 10:41:35 PM
DaveF, I think this is a good idea and would be helpful to both creators and collectors.  You could start the thread yourself, make it self moderated?

If you don't want to do it, I would be happy to open a self moderated thread for announcements of new coin/art/collectible offerings.  I would want the thread just to be announcements by the creators and a link to their Sales/ANN thread.  I would remove any commentary or discussion as that would belong elsewhere, the thread would only be for announcements.  I would not censor any creators, if a collectible exists it can be announced even if it is poop on canvas shaped in a BTC.  I have no clue if I could get the moderators here to sticky the thread and wouldn't ask until it was shown to be attracting enough announcements.

Is that what you are looking for DaveF?  Thoughts from others?

So long as the 1st post has the full list of links like I posted I think a VERY moderated thread is perfect.
No discussion. No opinions. Just the facts about the items.

Picking on Corrosive for a moment. There could be 2 links.
So you would see. (In a nice table)
Corrosive Silver Cards Diamonds  {date would go here}   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5179654.0
Corrosive Silver Cards Diamond auction {date would go here}  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5194304

In the rest of the thread nothing but 1 post per item and only for a limited time. 30/60/90 days. After that it's removed. This way the thread never has more then the last few months of new stuff in it. But the 1st post has a complete list of what is there. Also after it has been sold out the link to the sale should also be removed. In theory there is a link in the announcement thread to the sale anyway (which by the way Corrosive didn't do).

Because still picking on Corrosive. The diamonds were announced and then all were sold. There is no need to have more information then the link to what they are. The auction although important for determining pricing later would not really be important to the item itself.

LC if you are willing to do it and run with it that would be great. I have so much on my plate that I really think I would mess it up.

-Dave

6080  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Do we need / does anybody want a single moderated announcement thread? on: October 30, 2019, 03:49:05 PM
Bringing this back up again since there have been at least 2 people who missed out some things because the announcement / auction got lost in the piles of posts here.
One I worked a deal with to get him what he wanted the other one lost out. If they want to post / reveal who they are that's up to them.

But, the point remains the same. I still think we need a central post. But without the help of the people creating things and someone in the community to help with the posting / listing it's going to go nowhere.
So ~6 months later...anyone interested?
