7064  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Launches the New Antminer T9 Bitcoin Miner on: March 23, 2018, 11:03:14 PM
I just looked online and Bitmain is having a sale on the S9 and T9+. A 14TH S9 with power supply is $1864 but you can buy T9+ 10.5T with power supply for $855. You could buy 2 T9+ for $1710 and have a total of 21 TH/s. I did the calculations with my power cost of $0.064 a kw at the current rate of BTC I would generate about $289.97 profit a month with the 2 T9+'s as opposed to $219.48 a month profit with one S9. I would ROI in about 6 months and even sooner if I got a hold of some good $200 coupons.

Am I missing something? It doesn't seem to make sense to buy an S9 at the current prices.

If you are short on power or space the S9 might work out better.

Depending on my locations I have both issues.
1 spot has just about unlimited power (200+A of 220v) for me to use. So long as I can fit it in a 1/4 equipment rack.
The other my "warehouse" has as much space as I want. But with a little less then 40A of 110.
So yes in theory you are correct. But for me I would have to sit and do the calculations as to which would work better for me.

Cool

I am updating my pool url too to https://cbtc.leafpool.com/  Grin
Great thanks a lot.
we have setup our first website, users get to earn CBTC for Signing up and using the site.
you can check it out here http://bitclassic.info

I signed up.
Also on the website you state:
"....Any secure Bitcoin wallet that gives the user exclusive control of the cryptographic private keys is a suitable location to store your coins prior to the March 20 fork...."
Other places you have different fork dates.
What is the actual date?

7066  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BCBC]: Bitcoin@CBC Bitcoin hybrid FORK without Satoshi Nakamoto on: March 23, 2018, 10:25:28 PM
Difficulty of 144 million on a coin that is not traded in any volume?
8 blocks today? 3 Yesterday & day before 2 the day before that? Even with the 144 block average difficulty adjustment this is going to take a while.
I love to play around with a lot of alt / fork coins.
But this one is going to be hard to get back moving.

-Dave

I believe we will cope with this problem soon, difficulty will goes down slowly after several retargeting periods (9 blocks)
2 petahash attack during the day does not pass without a trace

OK I'll go with that theory.
Now, for my issue.
I'm running the Pool version with the getinfo RPC call. What name it is looking for, for the conf file?
I tried bitcon.conf since it wanted to be in the bitcoin directory, and that didn't work.
I tried bitcoin@cbc.conf and that did not work either.
I have setup pools before, so I am not flying blind but this one is just making me nuts.
Thanks,
Dave

7067  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer X3 -- 220KH+ Cryponight - 550W on: March 23, 2018, 10:14:36 PM
It is going to be very interesting to see how much the hash rate of the monero network will fall. Will give GPU miners a chance again.
For a short time.
Remember, they do not need to be "efficient" just better then a gpu / cpu.
Think of how bad the early BFL and other miners were. But they were still several factors better then CPU / GPU.
If they keep changing the algo, someone at Bitmain (or wherever) just has to sit down and say.
X $ per coin
Y speed gets me Z coins.
How fast does Y have to be for me to recoup development + build + power costs and to make a profit over N days.
This way unless the dev team can change the algo every 120 days there will be a way to do it.

-Dave
*Yes I think changing 3x a year would not be a bad thing. Every 120 days you switch and the new one that will start in 120 days is released. This gives everyone ~4 months to upgrade their software, but a VERY limited time to build new chips.
7068  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Running Corsair 1200 & 1000 watt psu's near max capacity. Safe? on: March 23, 2018, 02:37:31 PM
Dave's opinions:

Corsair no, not safe to keep running near max.

Other better brands yes they are. Where you have them is on the border of what I would do with the ones I use, perhaps a bit over.
I have had EVGA 1300 units running @ close to 92% rated for years now with no issues.
Same with some of the earlier Seasonic

Corsair I will not run above 75%. Just have not had good luck with them in PCs or in mining.

It's now giving me a error -27
already in block chain.

But it's not.

I just did an importprivkey for that one address on a new clean pc with just BCA installed and the coins are sitting there.

At this point I am going to wait for the block explorer to be released so I can do some tracing of it. Without seeing what is being seen on the network makes it that much harder to fight this issue. I think (and I really don't know if it's possible) that something made it into the mempool, and it's bouncing around a few nodes but not getting mined.

Thanks for all your time so far.

-Dave

So the official block explorer shows the transactions if I look at the TXIDs.
The sending wallet still shows them in it. But I can't do anything with them.
The receiving wallet does not show any incoming transactions.
Very odd.
Going to have to play with this a lot over the weekend.

7071  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex Verification on: March 23, 2018, 01:39:43 AM
It seems to be random. A friend was verified in about a month. His wife who did the verification at the same time took over 3 months and several messages to support.
As others have said before, I hope circle will improve their support. (They can't make it worse)

7072  Economy / Exchanges / Re: OKex and many more faking trading volumes / wash trading on: March 23, 2018, 01:34:46 AM
The question that is not answered is it is "fake" as in they are not really there as in they are making up numbers.
OR is it "fake" as in a pair of bots trading the same coins between themselves for free (if they are doing it the fees are never really charged)

The other question is if exchange "X" spends $5000 on advertising (sig campaign, twitter campaign, etc) and the other spends $5k in lost trade fees looking to make themselves look bigger is it bad. (I think it is) but it is a form of advertising.

7073  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Launching the Antminer L3+, World's Most Powerful and Efficient Litecoin Miner on: March 22, 2018, 05:46:44 PM
My first L3+ arrived today.  Fedex got it to me on time despite a 18 inch snow storm .

So I hook it up to an  antminer apw psu I down clock set fans to 40%

and I get a nice 450mh using 725 watts at the meter

impressed with power use.

I have 5 more on order.
going to solo mine  so the 450mh with lower sound and lower power works for me

Still doing some speed tweaks to mine. Trying to find the Frequency / Power sweat spot.
I just found out that 3 that came together off the same power supply can vary a lot.
As in 4% less power at the same frequency.
Going to leave each one on the test bench for a few days to see if it maintains that. 30 Watts is not a lot but it all counts.

7074  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: It is NOT secure to use hardware wallets (and it never was) on: March 22, 2018, 02:32:30 PM
Well, this evil maid attack is even less risky. How would a hacker access my hardwallet, inside my house?
If he can get inside your house , well, he can force you to give your btc to him even on an airgapped PC using Bitcoin core, he doesn't even need to be a hacker, he just needs a weapon.

When you buy a ledger nano they come securely closed, and if the seal was violated you should discard it, as ledger recommendation. You don't need to trust anyone who handles the package..

But this discussion is pretty worthless.. it's a selected Paranoia. Hardwallets are safe enough.

If the user is the problem (like using infected pendrives, using violated hardwallets), any method is unsafe

That's why it's called the evil maid, we can call it dishonest butler, sneaky plumber, corrupt cable tech.
Whatever. WE are human, we make mistakes, you left it siting next to your PC for whatever reason instead of putting it away. Under 3 minutes and a netbook. That's all they need.

When you buy a ledger nano they come securely closed, and if the seal was violated you should discard it, as ledger recommendation. You don't need to trust anyone who handles the package..
They actually did not

And I think that set me off more then anything. They badmouthed other places for saying that their taper tape was worthless, while putting out a product that a 15 year old (yes a very smart one) cracked by himself.

Beyond this, I am dropping out of this thread. I doubt either one of us is going to change the others mind.

7075  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: It is NOT secure to use hardware wallets (and it never was) on: March 22, 2018, 02:03:31 PM
This is a problem, and was already fixed by a firmware update.

I think it's also worth mentioning that this vulnerability, although scary, occurs only if the the attacker has physical access before setup of the seed.
Not 100% true, from what he said it was vulnerable to the "Evil Maid attack"
https://saleemrashid.com/2018/03/20/breaking-ledger-security-model/

This is a problem, and was already fixed by a firmware update.
Which took them close to 4 months to put out and still is not properly alerting & forcing users to update.

And if you care at least a minimum about security, you would never buy a Ledger Wallet from third party re-sellers.
Assuming you can trust everyone who handled the package from when it left their shipping dock till when it wound up in your mailbox.

TLDR: ledger hardwallet is still pretty safe, much safer than any hot wallet. Unless you have an airgapped PC, hardwallet is still a good choice.

THAT I agree with. And pretty safe is good for most people. But it's still not REALLY REALLY REALLY safe.

Just because you are paranoid does not mean that there are not people out to get you.....

7076  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Restoring Bitmain Firmware (L3+,D3,A3, others) on: March 22, 2018, 01:35:10 AM
There have been some posts about loosing the ability to get to their miners.

If you take a look here:

https://shop.bitmain.com/support.htm?pid=007201604120945219855QObfk20066C

You can get the downloads to burn a SD card to restore your firmware for the L3+, D3 and A3
***The L3+ is not the same as the L3***
If you put the wrong firmware on you will probably own a paperweight.

Just posting this because several people have had issues and it's not on an obvious spot on the Bitmain page

IT WORKS!! Managed to flash Firmware by loading the files onto SD card.  Once loaded, found IP throught
the IP report button.  Set to static again, this time no problems.

Mine on!
Glad it worked. Grin

7079  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: QR Code issue on: March 22, 2018, 12:13:16 AM
It's only you for now I guess.

Maybe it's a bug issue with your phone firmware since you tested the lower version better to stay with that version until they release a new firmware for your phone.

I am using mycelium for almost 2 years and never encounter any problem with scanning QR code or anything.

Do you have a backup of your coinomi wallet?

Try to hard reset your phone after you flash your phone into the latest firmware and install the coinomi and mycelium wallet and try again if the issue persists it is not a phone problem its a firmware bug.

How about the other firmware which is 5.0.2 just found from XDA-developers.
Check the source here https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/firmware-modem-collection-flashable-zips-t3565535
If the 5.0.2 didn't work better to stay at the 5.0 version just to keep your qr code scanner work.
I am 99% certain it's a firmware bug.
I think the problem is, and for it to happen to you 3 things have to be in place:
1) You own a OnePlus 3T
2) You use Mycelium wallet
3) You run the latest and greatest beta firmware as soon as OnePlus releases it.

I am guessing that it's a very small group of people.
However, I did think that it would be more then just me talking about it here.

Through the OnePlus forums I found someone close to where I work with a 3T, who is running the beta. He does not use bitcoin but did agree to let me install mycelium to check on his phone sometime next week. Just to eliminate some odd hardware issue on my phone.

I'll also check out the XDA firmware you posted.
