This looks like a corporatist/government sponsored event,
it is. besides that the sponsoring is from a publisher having ties to the INSM, a powerful lobby organization known for trying to influence journalism and public opinion by eh... unconventional means. like bribery, covered advertising and planting texts prewritten by companies as journalism.

i think getting paid in bitcoins will take a while. as a company when you only have a bitcoin address for people you pay what exactly do you put in your tax report? "expenses for unknown employees/contractors"? btw you can use all important filehosters through premiumize.me. they accept bitcoins too, so you get access to all filehosters for about one bitcoin per month. my inner reflink-bitch cant resist so: https://secure.premiumize.me/inv/2654459056/

yay it works! interesting facts: 1. it works with msvs2010 2. it doesnt work with swig for linux 3. it doesnt work without python path variable 4. it doesnt work with python path variable without reboot 5. doing serious stuff at hours were most people sleep isnt as time efficient as linear arithmetics might indicate (see 2., 3. and 4.) actual testing will follow another day. only one thing i noticed: it stops responding when you try to close it. and btw msvs2010 ends with: 3> SWIG_compile_dll_MSVS2005.vcxproj -> Z:\fremdprojekte\BitcoinArmory\cppForSwig\x64\Release\SWIG_compile_dll_MSVS2005.dll 3>PostBuildEvent: 3> Description: Combine compiled libraries and PyQt gui into .exe 3> 1 file(s) copied. 3> python: can't open file '../setup.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory 3>C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\Microsoft.CppCommon.targets(113,5): error MSB3073: Der Befehl "copy x64\Release\SWIG_compile_dll_MSVS2005.dll ..\_CppBlockUtils.pyd 3>C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\Microsoft.CppCommon.targets(113,5): error MSB3073: ; python ../setup.py py2exe --includes sip, hashlib -d ../ArmoryStandalone 3>C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\Microsoft.CppCommon.targets(113,5): error MSB3073: 3>C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\Microsoft.CppCommon.targets(113,5): error MSB3073: 3>C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\Microsoft.CppCommon.targets(113,5): error MSB3073: :VCEnd" wurde mit dem Code 2 beendet.
any idea what might cause this?

Follow all the steps above. Open the ArmoryEngine_MSVS_2005.sln file. Make sure to select “Release” mode and “x64″ (or Win32 if only 32-bit OS). Build-all.
cant find that file. however there is a PyBtcEngine_MSVS2005.sln

i never played dota, only demigod. i would definitely play rise of immortals-tournaments with bitcoin prizes. afaik they dont support custom tournaments yet.

imho a really good free to play game i played demigod which was terribly good except for the broken network code and lack of matchmaking that made it almost unplayable. rise of immortals is pretty close in terms of fun and has the big advantage of actually working. if you dont know it, check it out: http://signup.riseofimmortals.com?campaign=ref_79Jaj37HA165djkcAwt4U1gL

seems to work with win7 64-bit. didnt do anything special though, just checking all tabs, options and sorting and let it download a few weeks of blocks.

The energy cost of mining shouldn’t be ignored either. You’re right that energy efficiency is the limiting factor, since nobody is going to mine-long term if it’s NOT cost effective…and people WILL mine if it is. Which means that the energy used to solve a block will trend towards the value of solving that block. If Bitcoin was underlying the world economy, the value of solving a block would be very large and thus worth spending very large amounts of money to do. We can use an approximate model for the future by replacing the block subsidy by a constant sum of fees. This isn't completely realistic but it works for our model. S = subsidy (or sum of fees) C = electricity cost C - S -> 0 - delta I put a negative delta there, because people make bad bets all the time. yeah, but how do you determine the fee for a single transaction? right now the value of a block is determined by the value of the subsidy and therefore by the value of a single bitcoin. so the enviromental cost of the network is mostly based on speculation and has nothing to do with the value as a monetary system it provides. the value of a block without subsidy depends on the number and size of the fees attached to transactions - the value of a single bitcoin doesnt matter at all. unless you assume that bitcoin mining isnt a free and fair market or there is no efficient way to determine a reasonable value for a given transaction, the cost per single transaction is likely to converge to the minimum possible cost of the transaction. so if bitcoin doesnt run into longterm scalability problems it might be a good enough approximation of an optimal monetary system.

I still think we are marketing to the wrong types of people. Nerds use bitcoin, so we should market more to nerds.
specifically, we should market more to gamers. they already use virtual currencies, half-finished software and buy stuff online.

non-US point of view: imperial units suck badly. you cant calculate with them because they dont match the numbering system and you have to remember the numeric relations between them one by one because they are all different. with metric units there is exactly one thing to remember: the number 10. bonus points if you know kilo-, dezi, centi-, milli- etc. which are kinda hard to forget with words like century and stuff.
i do understand why its not easy to get rid of imperial units. but objectively, they still suck. what you forget when you dismiss all those example calculations is that in the metric system they arent just easier - they dont exist at all. because it fits the numeric system you just add zeros. thats something any moron can do. so there really are a lot of everyday calculations that are much easier in the metric system.
