661  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon6 - Can't mine through pool - Connection refused on: October 06, 2017, 02:10:36 PM
Hi. I'm new to mining. I can access the Avalon6 webpage. I have tried Kano.is and Solo.ckpool.org and nothing ever happens. I enter the addresses (for example stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333), my Bitcoin Wallet Address and x for the PW.

The Cgminer API log gives this message: Socket connect failed: Connection refused.

Any ideas?

Its possible your pi doesn't have internet access. Can you SSH into it and try to ping a website like google.com?

I am just developing PHs speed mining technology since demand is high for private PHs mining pools.

Maybe you and QuintLeo are right maybe not, who knows for sure.
My PHs speed mining technology is based on Algebra and pseudo-random heuristics.
I hope to have first tests run within 1 month.

Since hashing is based on deterministic algorithm the output is not random.
It may look random for non-scientists but it is not.

But since you don't know what the previous block is, or the time, it might as well be random. With those two things, you still need to find the nonce. It sounds like you think you have a way to get the nonce magically, without brute forcing it, or by doing some minimal work. If you had this, why do you need PH/s - the hash rate is only important if you are brute forcing the nonce.

I'd recommend testing with a different PSU. At this point that seems the most likely thing!

EDIT:

That was on the Avalon 6 firmware. Funny enough, the A741 image, I don't get that at all. With just the AUC hooked up, I don't see anything about it in the Avalon section.

Same thing, A7 firmware:

However, in my miners, I can clearly see them (and they're powered on). So I'd say the A7 firmware won't show just the AUC unless its hooked up to a miner that's powered on.

----Only on Avalon 6 firmware:----

Ok, so it does look like the AUCs show up without power to the miner.

Here is what my control panel looks like with just the AUC connected to the Pi:

(Note: I have two AUCs, one is the newer one from an A741 and one is from an A6, connected to this Pi)

So you should at least see the AUC, even if you don't have the right power for the miner.

Are you running the hardware or is this cloud mining you've bought?
666  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Help with Avalon 741 cgminer "No devices detected" on: October 05, 2017, 06:59:35 PM

The miner does power up with green lights at the back and an amber light on the front -- could this still happen if it was underpowered?

Again, I don't have much experience testing with these sort of edge cases. My PSUs are all HP server power supplies that do auto switching, so even with the 120V i have at home (vs the 220 I have in the mine), I can test them and they fire up.

I have a spare AUC cable at home and a Pi - i will test to see if it shows up with no miner when I get off work in a couple hours.

Do you have an ATX PSU you could try to hook up to the miners to see if that worked?
667  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Can you build your own machine using same processors as S9? on: October 05, 2017, 06:51:15 PM

There is "no competition" because the whole concept has nothing to do with cryptocoin mining, and is NOT APPLICABLE to doing cryptocoin mining.

There is NO RANDOM to any cryptocoin algorithm - if there was anything random, the algorithm would not WORK.

Whoever "PH" is, they appear to be running a particularly ignorant scam for this "speed miner", or their scam is aimed at the particularly ignorant.

They're a crackpot who thinks they can find a specific set of "lucky nonces" that will be valid for new blocks - that's the "random" they were talking about. They don't understand how SHA256 works.
668  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Windows 2016 VPS on: October 05, 2017, 03:54:32 PM
You can run a wallet on a VPS, but I would make sure you have multiple off VPS backups of your wallet.dat.

Are you trying to mine with the VPS, or just use it as your wallet?

Have you got any experience with Windows 2016? The thing is that I don't know if I can run Win10 or Win7 wallet.
Can you tell me little more?

Thank you.

Try it and see - Win 2016 is the server version, so some things might be locked down, but it should work.

You haven't submitted any shares based on that. Are you solo mining?

Thanks, will confirm it's 220v.

Should the AUC3 converter show up in the cgminer status regardless of whether a connected miner has enough power? Or are you saying it's a power issue for the converter that's causing it to not show up in the cgminer status?

Edit: tried two other PSUs and I have just updated the OP to include that

Were the other PSUs also Canaan sorcerers?

How are you powering the Pi?

I'm thinking the power issue is the miner not starting. I've never had the AUC itself show up (without the miner), but I only have 5 of these so not a huge amount of testing with it.
672  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Help with Avalon 741 cgminer "No devices detected" on: October 05, 2017, 02:35:03 PM

Power supply at 220v:

It really seems like its a power problem to me - can you get a tester to make sure you're getting 220 from those?  Alternatively, you could try with a switching PSU and see what happens.
673  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 741 setup on: October 05, 2017, 01:43:35 PM

I know the PSU works as it worked fine for my ethereum miner and the lights are green on the hash boards on the Avalon 741. who knows what the problem is

Just to make sure, you have the PSU set to bypass the ATX power connector, right?  When you're running it straight to gear like this, it never gets the power on signal from the motherboard, so you either need a wire/paperclip to connect the pins or an add-on you put into the connector.
674  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 741 setup on: October 04, 2017, 05:27:39 PM
Are the AUC lights also green, when you connect them to the Pi?

I turn on the pi with everything plugged in and wait a minute the turn on the miner itself

The AUC should show up even if the miner isnt running  - try to refresh the cgminer status page after you've plugged in the auc

I will get a picture up when I get back soon. The light on the miner is green. The light on the AUC3/USB dongle is also green. The PSU and cables came with the unit direct from Canaan. Will confirm about the wiring.

What country are you in? Are you running 220v? (The canaan power supplies only run on 220).

How is power getting to the PSU - through an outlet, a PDU, etc? What's the power outlet look like?
677  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Help with Avalon 741 cgminer "No devices detected" on: October 04, 2017, 02:55:17 PM
Post a picture of the power supply and the back of the miner (where the power supply PCIe connects to it) - are the lights on the back of the miner on?

Is the power supply the right voltage? Are the pci-e cables the right wiring? (if you hold the cables the same way, are all the wires the same color)?

I can point my S7LN to it. 2.5 th/s.

I just pointed my S7LN to the pool (to run with my GeckoScience 2Pacs), so here's to hoping for some luck!

What color are the lights on the AUC converter that's hooked up to your Pi?

Are the lights on the back of the miner, where you plug in the PCI-e boards, on?
