Hello all.

One of my units stopped so I restarted it a few times. Fans would spin for a few rpm and then stop. Red power LED and intermittent yellow one. I was able to connect via internet as normal, but showed 0 work being done.

Looked inside, PSU cables looked potentially a bit loose so reseated. Turned the unit back on and a plume of sparks shot out from a corner of one of the modules. Looks like a resistor had melted:

Questions:
1) Is it safe to test the Avalon without this module?
2) Is it safe to test this damaged module without the last 2 chip units in?
3) Does that last 2 chip unit have any value to anyone?

Cheers guys. Avalon is sleeping for now.

If you're 100% sure none of the other modules are damaged and the PSU is safe to use then yes you can remove the damaged module and continue mining with the others.

It's just rubbing alcohol are they afraid you going to drink it?

Maybe! Ha Ha!

I think they do it have, the Canadian website isn't the most up-to-date website compared the the US one. I think its probably because they have been drinking the rubbing alcohol! Smiley

Isopropyl is common, used in first aid. I found 91% Isopropyl at Walmart only a $1 or $2 for 32 fl oz.
I think I would go with the 91% they also sale a 70% strength.

They only sell it as a jell at Walmart Canada.

I think I agree with Yifu it should not matter.
You could cleaning it off with isopropyl alcohol and a few Q-tips or soft cloth.
Watch out of static electricity though and only us a little isopropyl no need to sock it.

I will have to see if I can find that stuff.

The funnest thing I have seen on Kijiji lately are people trying to sell their pre-ordered Neptune's and tell everyone everyone they will make 2.6BTC a day once they receive their Neptune. After doing the math myself with the guestimate of difficulty at the end of Q1 and now the Neptune will not be able to make 2.6BTC a day at 3TH/s. Smiley

Interesting.  I'd not previously looked at the ASIC selection offered on Amazon.  Quite a few.  This kind of changes my view of the miner population out there.  So many more new miners slapping down dough for devices they'll have in a few days.  No wonder the net hashrate has been climbing steadily.

Wow, I hadn't seen ASICs on Amazon before. Here's a guy selling his Nov Jupiter for nearly $20k! I wonder if Amazon would be a safer place to sell than eBay.

I would tell him good luck with that! Smiley

So does the error indicate only 1 section of 10 chips is not working?

Where do I see that?
From your log file. [match_work_count29] => 0
Looks like 1 sub unit not working. I assume the other 31 sub units show some hash count other that zero.

I get that, but does it mean that count29 is on the 4th module or does it mean it a random sub, meaning I will have to pull out all the modules!?

It is the 5th one from the left on module 4, the one with the smudged stuff on it.

The smug stuff is the silicon, which is why I asked many posts ago if it would matter and that Yifu told me in an email from support@avalon-asic.com that it wouldn't.. but I suspect it does. Is there any safe way of cleaning the circuits on the board?

Yes all the other units are hashing just fine.

I am just trying to confirm if match_work_count29 refers to module 4 or does it change the order around once you add your 4th module to the Avalon and connected it?

When are  they gonna be shipped out?

Yes either Q1 or Q2.

Help!!!

My B1 Avy show [match_work_count29] => 0 in the logs. So I powered it down and took out the 4th module, the one I bought from Avalon-asic.com in the summertime and had a look at it. Other than the one board having silicon all over it nothing is burnt on any of the boards. I took a picture with my BlackBerry and am including it. All I can think of is that possibly the silicon is causing some issue with the one board, please let me know what you think I should?

Thanks

672  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Bi•Fury | 5+ GH/s USB Miner [IN STOCK!] {CHRISTMAS SALE !} on: January 03, 2014, 05:34:53 PM
When 3TH/s costs $10k USD I don't think anyone will be buying your 500GH/s worth of BiFury for $28,000 USD.

673  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnC Miner list of orders - Neptune on: January 03, 2014, 04:45:38 PM
Tiggger this is no Batch 3 Neptune's, it's only Batch 1 and Batch 2.

The first machine that were offered to Knc Customers only were the appreciative batch, then batch 1, and now batch 2's (both batch 1 and 2 are open to the general public).

674  Economy / Economics / Keiser Report: Westminster Circus (E544) on: January 03, 2014, 12:16:35 PM
http://youtu.be/RlMm_kw1d08

In this episode of the Keiser Report, Max Keiser and Stacy Herbert discuss the scary banking clowns, the alleged decline in bank robberies and the Times' 'Briton of the Year,' George Osborne causing a nation of a million mortgage holders in 'perilous debt.' In the second half, Max interviews Danny Blanchflower, a former external member of the Bank of England's interest rate-setting Monetary Policy Committee, about the disastrous UK economy, George Osborne's policies and the BoE decision to buy UK Gilts rather than other assets during this crisis.

Enjoy!

at 295GH/s I should be making 0.1256 BTC every 24 hours at the current difficulty, because you have changed your system around I am lucky to get 0.016xxx BTC every 24 hours. Your system doesn't work, instead if lines your pocket and rips off people like myself.

I didn't change anything.

I'm not sure how it rips you off and benefits me. Why exactly do you think so?

If I was paying consistently 12-13% of what other pools pay, do you really think people would use the pool?

I just don't get why I have only received one payment today, and only 3 yesterday. I haven't changed anything on my end. My wallet is at par with the transactions from your site. Sorry if I was acting like I jerk but my monkey mind was freaking out. Wink

Did the difficultly increase by 4 or 5 times in the last couple of days? I have seen my payouts go from 8 a day up until the 30th of December to 7 on the 31st, and only 3 today, it's 7:30PM EST where I am.

Variance will affect daily payouts. More info: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=27062.msg2769824#msg2769824

677  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DOCUMENTS: NSA Has 'A 100% Success Rate' Putting Spyware On iPhones on: January 02, 2014, 03:17:00 PM
100 percent success rate? So every bodies iPhone is essentially bugged?

100% success rate simply means that it has worked on every attempt. That could be 1, 1000 or 1000000.

Every attempt at what? Every phone they've intercepted?

Are you DAF? LOL

"All Apple devices have been successfully infected by the NSA with spyware..."

So don't be downloading spyware onto your iPhone! Or better yet don't use an iPhone period! Smiley

You need to stop this before you lose even more people hashing on your network. I see the total has dropped a lot on your network, it's down to 418 now from 480 something. It's been more than 12 hours and I haven't seen a single payout, I am going to leave it until I return from work today and if its not producing anything I am drop you in a heartbeat.

Sorry but when you make these radical changes you have to understand it's not always for the best. People who make tried to make things better even though things are working just fine have lost their shirts.

better get a blackberry; a device nobody uses should be pretty safe, right?

Except for the governments and a handful of businesses that still use the BlackBerry.
680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin difficulty question... KHs/MHs/GHs? on: January 02, 2014, 01:14:37 AM
Thanks!
That makes more sense Smiley

The whole reason I was so interested in this is because once KNC and Cointerra deliver... I was trying to figure out if the difficulty would double or triple... I think KNC is making something like 2400 machines @ 3 THs and Cointerra.. not sure.

Any guesses?

Every 10 to 15 days or so the difficulty goes up, as the new TH/s rig become available we could see time to process 2016 block increase to 7 days (say) which would force the difficulty to go up. It simply doesn't just doesn't double or triple over night, its the time that it takes for 2016 blocks to be processed. Smiley
