My rental ran out. I haven't seen a block take longer than 24hrs in a long time. I'm done with mining btc for now.
Tell me about it .... 26hrs+ and counting ... what a day! that and the bitcoin price .... I don't blame you man, at least on slush, but if the block were ticking over, I'd keep mining up until the entire system imploded or I went broke, whichever first.

Just heads up
Hi, really sorry, we cannot help you on it. there is no coupon for S5 and price is very low now:)
Best Regards

What's the headsup refering to? Can't seem to find a reference to that ... but if it was a request for vouchers, I think the response is valid to a large extent.

Every month when I get my power bill I look at cost of electricity to mine and value of bitcoins mined during the same period. When it cost more in electricity than value of BTC I'm going to shut down. I guess if enough of us do then difficulty will go down.
You are looking at it from the wrong perspective. You need to be wishing for the big players to call it a day, that way there is a chance for bitcoin difficulty reduction that is sustainable. The home miners do not account for a large enough percentage to "shut down" in concert to cause a difficulty reduction that is sustainable. Its those huge corporate farms, the same ones dumping BTC thus responsible for the downward pressure on BTC value that need to shut down. If you are signed up to a collective, pray, if not then get your witches' broom out for them!

I keep getting a XML error everytime I try to access the miner configuration page... I'm running the october firmware, already tried to reset it but it's still the same. I don't get this error with any other firmware but want to keep this one as it seem to be the most stable for me.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Log into the rig via SSH and paste this then press enter sed -i 's/Save\&Apply/Save\&Apply/g' /usr/lib/lua/luci/model/cbi/cgminer/cgminer.lua Now you should be able to access the miner configuration page. PS. That was the minor bug that led to the ensuing cascading firmware update shenanigans!

@SargeR33 @pekatete I can tell you never found 2 blocks in one week after earning only like 2 BTC on the pool... 50 vs. 2 that's like 2500% and it feels wrong. After all being lucky is the meaning of life. If you mine you already won the lottery! What on earth are you on about? I know the bitcoin price is tanking like there's no tomorow, but care to say that again in plain English?
|
|
|
I'm sure this must have been proposed already, and maybe it doesn't work, but if you added a "finders keepers" option to the pool; that would give you more BTC if you find a block from others that also tick that box, I would certainly tick it! It doesn't have to be much, or maybe you can have multiple values so you will get extra BTC when you find a block in proportion to the others that are in your group. Say 5%, 25% and 50%...
Everyone that doesn't tick the box are unaffected so this would only add a little more "game" for the "perceived as lucky".
solo mining = finders keepers. nuff said.

At the risk of making the proverbial storm in a teacup, bitmain, why do you offer shipping options that you do not effect? I placed an order for an S5 and selected shipping via EMS, however, my shipping confirmation came through this morning and it is being shipped by UPS. Just to put this in the public domain, I sent an email to info@bitmain.com and the explanation given was that UPS is faster than EMS, and therefore they opted (without checking with me) to use the faster courier. The reason I chose EMS over UPS is because the latter charge inexplicably large amounts for processing my import duties, do not offer online payment of duties + charges, unlike DHL are are slower & do not provide TXT status updates and provide a very wide delivery window (e.g delivery before end of day which means I have to stay put till they arrive). I did not mention that the last time I used UPS to ship from bitmain they turned up on the day and demanded cash (or a cheque ... honestly, who still has those?) before handing over my S3. I chose EMS knowing they can be slower, but decided to take my chances. On the day I ordered, EMS was probably cheaper than UPS by BTC 0.001, so that was not a deciding factor. For all intents and purposes, I could have chosen another sticker courier, aka Fedex which was a tad dearer to a negligible extent, but I chose EMS. Now, when they turn up and they still charge these ridiculous fees, I shall not sign for the package, so it will have to be returned to bitmain, and you can then ship it via EMS at your cost. Pretty frustrating that you offer a shipping method that you do not want to fulfill.

Is there a way to have the miner not hash during certain times of the day? At the simplest idea of mine, was to hook up one of those AC timers that kills the power during certain times and then restores it at others.
Thats a very noble way and most effective. You could also write a script that kills cgminer (and cgminer monitor) during your chosen downtime but ensure it is started during your chosen uptime. (don't ask me how to do it 'cause I do not know AND you've already got a good solution!)

Have a number of $45 BitMain S5 Coupons and (7) $30 S5 Coupons left.
PM me if interested!
Strato
Funny, I just emailed Yoshi as to why the variance in coupons. Strange to me that those who took the chance on batch 1, are least rewarded. I think the S5 coupons were issued, in the first instance, to the people who ordered from the batch just prior to the 15% reduction, which reduction was posted on the bitmain site before the shipping of that prior batch .... sounds convoluted but should make sense.

@ MrTeal, did you ever find out if the S1/S3 heatsinks were the same as the S5's?
Thanks.
As near as I can tell they are. I haven't actually done a swap though. Thanks MrTeal. It's the hole spacing I'm mainly concerned about, I don't want to strip them down to find that the holes are about 2mm out. I'll have to PM Bitmain themselves I think, seems the only way to get an accurate answer from them Actually, you can put 1 and 1 together .... 1. The C1 uses the same board as the S3 2. The S5 board fits the C1 water cooling block - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=914354So there you have it.

My GF Keeps telling me that my machines are going to start a fire and burn down the house. Has anyone heard of this?
If you feel concerned, turn the freq down on your GF via the settings tab and regularly check on the temperature.

Pekatete, Thanks for this thread. It tried it on 2 S1's upgraded to S3 with Bitmain's kits and 1 S3. They all seem to start mining significantly faster after any clock change with the voltage setting of 0750 than with the original (blank) setting. It also seems to make them more tolerant to higher clock rates. My S3 did not 'like' clock rates higher than 225 MHz. It is now stable at 231.25 MHz. I did not get a chance to make a comparison of power consumption. I went back to the Oct 2014 f/w on all of these antminers.
Cheers
You are welcome. The voltage setting seems to work brilliantly with the S1 to S3 rigs and S3+ rigs but not very well with S3 rigs ... must be something to do with the regulators they used. As for firmware, I agree too that the best to use for setting voltage, in my experience, is the Oct 2014 firmware. Happy mining!

The link in the overclockers thread (that you gave) has a link to the datasheet (didn't test it), and an explanation of the wiring .... or did I miss something?

Thanks again pekatete !!! How hard are you pushing your S3? I have a server room that I can use with A/C! With two power supplies for each miner AX860 ATX Power Supply — 860 Watt.
Best I'm doing (not in a server room, but in my garden ... in winter) is freq 282.25 voltage 0825 getting approx 560GH/s and a low HW% running off a single 550W server PSU on a 220v-240v input. Not all my rigs will run that freq, but most will run @ 262.5 (and they all run off 550W server PSU's). Do you use all 4 PCI-e connections? Nope, just 2 on each rig.

There is no image for this but the datasheet (linked from that page and also here seems to fit the connector (see extracted image from datasheet) - MOQ 264 unit @ 4.39186 = 1,159.45 GBP (expected 20/02/2015 as of today)

Number 2 looks like it might work. Below is a picture of the back of the supply. The PSU looks to have 20 signal. I doubt they would line up appropriately or the spacing might be too wide. Awesome site though. I did find this through browsing and looks like it might be a match. Need to look at P7 though on the datasheet. Looks weird. Unfortunately, no stock a min order qty is 264 @ $6.18/ea. Not a bad price if it is the correct connector and there are enough orders. Might be able to request a sample or a smaller amount? Let's continue searching... (looks like J4bberwok had already replied) Digikey Part Number: 51939-045LF-ND Part Link: http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/51939-045LF/51939-045LF-ND/1491654 Drawing/Datasheet: http://portal.fciconnect.com/Comergent//fci/drawing/51939-045.pdfCould you turn that PSU over and see if there are any markings on that connector? If so, could you try and read them then transcribe it here? @J4bberwok - I can not find that part number anywhere, not even on the FCI site, so looks like it must have been a custom one. It does look like a powerblade connector nevertheless, and though I have seen a 6P 24S 6P, I can not find a 20S one, but short of it being custom, I am sure one can be found ... just a matter of looking for the right MOQ's.

He said he had a firmware from december when he received it, but after having trouble with it he downgraded to a firmware from July. WTF?!? I thought that S3+ support started in firmware from August? I am afraid this might be the problem.... Is there a chance to resurrect it?
I think you can fix it via the serial header on the controller board but it is not an easy task. I have never done it so I would suggest Googling for the info. That was not the answer I was hoping for ;-) If anyone has an idea or a kind of HowTo to do this, I would appreciate it, thanks!
