OK, Dipshit, let me spell it out for you.
...
if blocks only come out every 20 minutes or so on average

Key word "if".

The average is 10.1mn.

billyjoeallen-and-his-shorts: REKT Tongue

depends on what time frame you are looking at, obviously.

A day is good. Anything less than that is bullshit and distorted. For example if we start isolating time frames, I can show you the last blocks

421405   4 minutes   2775   32,406.06 BTC   BTCC Pool   997.1
421404   28 minutes   782   6,553.55 BTC   Slush   998.18
421403   28 minutes   1759   14,162.17 BTC   BitFury   998.19
421402   34 minutes   1992   18,610.63 BTC   F2Pool   999.81
421401   35 minutes   2027   18,207.23 BTC   F2Pool   999.87
421400   36 minutes   2841   39,982.53 BTC   BW.COM   998.15

So 6 blocks in 36mins = avg 6mins - "wow, we have near double tx capacity"  Roll Eyes

And if I showed you the same stat half an hour ago, I could claim that 6 blocks were found in 8 minutes and that this is blazing fast, like dogecoin or something.

But over a day it averages out back to 10.

Quote
and the most important issue is that there can be no more than 7 xactions/sec no matter how high the fees get.

If there was serious demand, you'd see fees skyrocketing. Instead you have half the transactions scrapping the bottom of the fees - trying to fill the blocks as cheaply as possible and not in any hurry.

I came to accept a long time ago that I will always be a lowly peasant in the cryptocurrency community and no one cares what I say.  Cheesy

If you want to get rich, you either do that by being a developer or an investor. No one (well maybe one or two) will become a newly millionaire from writing blog posts at Steemit.

i wouldnt say milionaire, but damn, they are getting 10k+ buy writing posts like a makeup tutorial...
and dont get me wrong, any tutorial is good for the community, but 30k is way to much for any tutorial.

i dont see that being sustainable in the long run.

The rewards are supposed to sustain a much broader content base. Less content (as we have right now) gets bigger slices of the reward pie. That's normal.

So, in the future, when userbase multiplies, instead of having say 10 posts that make 10k => you'll have 100 posts that make 1k.
704  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 19, 2016, 10:03:40 AM
an hour and 19 minutes since the last block. They are averaging 23 minutes per block and they're all full.

this will cause the price to slump, which will kick more hashpower off the networks, causing further backlogs and higher fees in a viscous feedback loop. I told you bastards this would happen.

it's the Fullblocalypse!!

The time required to find a block has zero relation to "full blocks".

But you already know that, don't you Wink

As for the averages,

Block Generation Time:
1 block: 10.1 minutes
3 blocks: 30.4 minutes
6 blocks: 1.0 hours

Must admit...this thread is a has been IMO

No good debates anymore just jay and the cronies talking meaningless trash

Price stable = less action
Price rises = OMGs, rockets, trains and champagne everywhere Cool

Using CLI wallets to avoid xss browser vulnerabilities is a no-no.

Just start logging in using your posting key, save your owner key somewhere (preferably offline), and you are golden. Smiley

Then if a hacker were to obtain your key, the worst they can do is post or upvote for you.

Where is the upvote button in bitcointalk (to upvote your post) Cheesy

AlexGR, I think I still have a better design for a DAO that will rock the investment world.

Personally my problem is I have so many designs and so little resources to code them. Nevertheless I wouldn't entirely dismiss smart contracts.

There is so much opportunity right now. My head is spinning. I am trying to figure out how to best align myself to get the most accomplished. For the moment, I want to do some more analysis and posting on Steemit, to try to work through determining what is possible in that direction. There are so many details to contemplate.

Also given all opportunity cost being otherwise equal, we should prioritize the opportunity that is, not the one that could be.

One very useful thing one can code right now, is a fricking cross-platform GUI wallet for steem / steem dollars / power ups - power downs etc. Using CLI wallets to avoid xss browser vulnerabilities is a no-no.

Steem is changing lives as we speak Cheesy

I'm not in favor of steem-pumping, or crypto-pumping in general, but we are in a time window right now where content is low in quantity and thus rewards that were meant for a larger audience are split to a smaller one - being quite good for existing members that manage to attract whale voting.

Smart contract and ethereum bubble discussion pales so much in comparison to what steem does, because steem has RELEVANCE to people, unlike "smart contracts".

"What is steem?" => "You post and make money"
"What is ethereum?" => "Smart contracts" => "What's that?" => (discussion becomes too technical)

Now what steem has to do is to solve its issues, simplify some stuff and then take off. The fundamentals (due to its nature) are by definition stronger than other crypto projects due to mass appeal and much bigger network effect that it can have.

Bitcoin price bitching 101:

1) Price rises

-"It's a bubble"
-"Come on now, that's clearly not sustainable"
-"WhoTF is buying? That's all fake volume, some Chinese are faking the price at their fake zero fee exchanges"
-"Look at those longs - this is very dangerous for them getting squeezed"
-"My technical analysis chart (pulled out of my ass) indicates that we are heading for a big correction"

2) Price stable

-"Boring"
-"Scaling needs fixing"
-"We must increase 1MB limit to accommodate for higher traffic"
-"Come on now with this 666-400-250 bullshit"
-"Where did everybody go?"
-"Altcoin X is doing fabulously, while we get nothing"
-"Volume is depressing"

3) Price declines

-"Is crypto done? Huh"
-"Who the fuck is selling, fuck this shit, seller go fuckyourself and die"
-"Price manipulation"
-"So the price last week was cheap coins huh?"
-"Damn I wish I had sold earlier"
-"So now that the trendline Z (which I pulled out of my ass) is broken, we must now find support down at -XXX$ from our current position"
-"Longs REKT" / "Shorters having a party"
-Coyote meme with rocket Tongue
-Titanic sinking meme

Inspired by the title of this thread: https://steemit.com/futurism/@alexgr/prediction-if-posting-mining-then-by-2020-2025-ai-posting-and-curation-will-become-the-asic-equivalent-of-mining

...I estimate that by 2025, Artificial Intelligence software will be able to actually create quality content. This will be a result of fusion with AI-pattern recognition abilities which find successful trends in content. Thus AI will be able to post proper content at the proper times to maximize its income and compete (!) with human authors. Initially it will probably start with AI trying to insert small comments that have high-upvote possibility and then escalate to meme-type posts, before creating full-blown posts itself.

I also expect that by 2020 (latest) AI curation will take the place of if-then-else bots - based on finding common patterns of success in curation / rewards.

If posting and curation is the "mining" of STEEM, then I predict that AI will be the "ASIC miner" equivalent.

...

Funny comment: "Yay! Humans are still ASIC resistant. Cheesy"

Aha... nice.

What happens if someone upvotes, say, a two week post? Does the author get paid for it, or payments finalize when activity stops and payment goes out?

Upvotes after payment start a new 24+ hour cycle. Voters are not rewarded after the first payout, but authors are.

Thanks for clarifying that.

I was a bit rushed, so hopefully there aren't major mistakes:

https://steemit.com/steemit/@anonymint/improving-steem-s-rankings-to-cater-to-diverse-content-preferences

I really didn't spend any time thinking about game theory attacks on this. I'll be thinking now and possibly editing it.

Editing for errors or clarity is good (be aware that editing after payout is currently disabled), but I would suggest that follow-on topics like game theory attacks be new posts. That not only will likely earn you more but it is more friendly to the reader who doesn't need to go back to already-read posts and read edits.

When does payout occur? Do I have to elect it?

24hrs after posting.

Lol. Thanks for the vote. Now I can afford to buy a stick of bubble gum.

Now you can buy a truck of bubble gum Grin

Game-theory issue with unvoting...?

Let's see how it goes...

Integrating a small thumb photo or a larger one, would be good for visibility purposes. Non-photo articles are buried kind'a fast.

Is there some way to make a thumbnail appear on the single line listings?

I think if you embed an image inside the post, anywhere, it will appear alongside the post when people browse it in the main index.

Smallblocker shitstains are still stalling I see. SegWit was supposed to come out in April, but the stream got blocked and now almost every block is 0.99 MB. How the hell is Bitcoin going to handle a new ATH at 7 TPS?

You were saying it won't be able to handle prices going over 300, over 450, etc. Now your problem is price handling a new ATH? Cheesy

How is this post worth 12k?  Huh

If you're a straight male and you find this funny or worth 12k, I got some bad news.

It's kind of a troll-response to a female makeup tutorial which got something like 30k.
