7021  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Announce] Coindl.com - a new digital downloads marketplace powered by Bitcoin on: April 10, 2012, 10:09:39 PM
CoinDL got soooo much publicity on Monday with the "iTunes for Bitcoin" Hypebot article, yet there still are less than two dozen music uploads.

This is going to be a chicken and egg problem, that will only slowly gain traction.

A variety of content is needed, even if you need to pre-pay artists for their listings!

On usability, when adding a wallpaper I needed to create a resized copy of the original to use as thumbnail.  Can't CoinDL do the resize by itself?  Seems like anyone uploading a wallpaper would only have the full size available.

Incidentally, had a sale on my first item that I listed.   Very cool!
7022  Economy / Speculation / Re: WARNING READ THIS BEFORE YOU TRADE 10/04/2012 on: April 10, 2012, 09:53:15 PM
This, is excellent!

The first thing I did though was to go into Split Screen (a Google Chrome extension that allows side-by-side views of web sites) but find that BTCCharts.com doesn't render at all.  I'm presuming this is probably because of BTCCharts.com being flash-based.

Is there any other way to get multiple BTCCharts to display (without launching a browser window for each)?
7023  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: MiniBitsMax Coming Soon! on: April 10, 2012, 09:10:00 PM
People who want to buy larger amounts of mini Bitcoins this is for you!

So the regular MiniBits (~$0.50, ~$1, and ~$2 amounts)  will remain?  i.e., this is simply an announcement that there will be an additional service to accommodate those wishing to buy larger amounts?

you MUST have at least a 3 coin reputation here on the forum

What does that "3 coin" reputation correlate to ... just the number of posts?  Could the trading history on #bitcoin-otc be incorporated into this?
7024  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Web-app for Monitoring Bitcoin Exchanges on a Smartphone on: April 10, 2012, 08:22:45 PM
Another view of this that would be useful would be for me to enter an amount in USDs and have shown back the number of bitcoins that amount of USDs will buy.  Those of us here know how to use a calculator, but on a mobile it would be nice to have that step made simpler.
7025  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Best way to convert BC to AUD? on: April 10, 2012, 07:32:37 PM
Also, Mt. Gox has BTC/AUD market.

BitcoinCharts will show the current exchange rates for them and CryptoXChange:

There are other exchanges which set the price based on the BTC/USD exhange rate:

7026  Economy / Speculation / Re: Btc-e on: April 10, 2012, 06:28:45 PM
I haven't tried USD lately, but I know it used to be difficult to get money in.

BitInstant can be used to move Dwolla USD to BTC-E.  It was halted for a bit but that is back now.  After including the fees though the arbitrage opprotunity pretty much gets melted away with there being not much advantage over buying elsewhere.
7027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Encourage George Zimmerman (Florida self-defense shooting victim) to accept BTC on: April 10, 2012, 09:11:36 AM
There had been some donations of one cent ($0.01) from people thinking that the donation through PayPal would trigger a $0.30 fee and then Zimmerman would lose money.  PayPal's fees don't work that way .. the fee is the lesser of amount paid or $0.30, whichever is lower.  So all those donations less than or equal to $0.30 go straight to PayPal's revenue from fees.
7028  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What happens when the coins dry up? on: April 10, 2012, 09:02:28 AM
This same question has been getting asked quite a bit lately:

Transaction fees will need to replace the currency issuance in the block reward.

Quote
When operating costs can't be covered by the block creation bounty, which will happen some time before the total amount of BTC is reached, miners will earn some profit from transaction fees. However unlike the block reward, there is no coupling between transaction fees and the need for security, so there is less of a guarantee that the amount of mining being performed will be sufficient to maintain the network's security.

7029  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: MTGox Green Address Withdraw time on: April 10, 2012, 08:23:10 AM
I was assuming the transaction would be sent out by the Green Address (1LNWw6yCxkUmkhArb2Nf2MPw6vG7u5WG7q ) stated by MagicalTux at : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=48170.0 , but instead I received it from:

Code:
1MVtwuuKvuzUa2mWiBnrA9UzqnP7tBaB9A (0.1 BTC - Output)
15sgsXuS7LPGPT18cjH5ecuUwPK6jTbFJZ (0.21206082 BTC - Output)
1BSX5JfYF9d4i7oU2DmQkbGFMqiQd7NoR3 (86.88689612 BTC - Output)

Which one would be the green address then?

Looks like tis is the transaction you are referring to:
http://blockchain.info/tx-index/3729526/a661f18b25d6bbd1a739ad10d8a88be872199eb6d8c46f2c4beac7438f5f7945

which gets a 404, so it doesn't look like a green address transaction:

Maybe it was sent out manually after some internal problem without ensuring it came only from a green address.

Thanks to Bitcoin...:

Why do you say "Thanks to Bitcoin"?

Currently, the only payment option is Dwolla but the site plans to add PayPal in the very near future.

Ha, that's awesome ... Dwolla first, then PayPal.

I wonder if they built using a Dwolla-compatible shopping cart tool that also has support for Bitcoin (e.g., osCommerce).
7031  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any way to get out of here? on: April 10, 2012, 12:01:56 AM
You can ask here.

Also, GLBSE has its own forum too that you can join:

7033  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: iPhone IOS Bitcoin wallet is here! (From Blockchain.info) on: April 09, 2012, 10:14:09 PM
Feature request:

For Receipt payment I'ld like to be able to enter the amount to receive in USDs and have that converted to BTCs (based on current best ask, or better yet, computed based on market depth), and the QR code shown for that aount.

This is to allow the app to function as a point-of-sale app, as described here:

7034  Other / Off-topic / Re: Free merchant accounts for everybody! Square gets $27.5 million funding on: April 09, 2012, 10:04:34 PM
How to accept Bitcoin payments:

Purchase an iPad   [Square might help a merchant with this part, and the base.]

Purchase an iPad stand (which has a swivel base)

From an iPad download the iOS version of My Wallet from BlockChain.info/wallet:
 - https://blockchain.info/wallet/iphone-app#  (and click "View download instructions)

Download Square Register app:

Ring up sale and accept cash, credit card, or bitcoin.

When ready for payment, tap Charge.  The following is displayed:

For bitcoin payments, use the Blockchain for iOS app to convert the USD price into an amount of Bitcoins.
 - [Blockchain for iOS and Android does this for USD.  Also http://Preev.com will work for other currencies.]

From the Blockchain/wallet My Wallet website click Receive Payment and enter the amount of BTC to accept.  This will show the QR Code.

Swivel the iPad stand so customer can scan the QR code with their mobile

Swivel back and watch for Payment details to show the payment received (a few seconds in most instances)

On Square Register app, enter the USD amount and tap Tender.

Print a receipt for customer.  Print a second receipt and write down amount of BTC payment for reconciling by back office.

Say thank you to customer.

And perhaps a thank you to Square for the free, advanced point-of-sale app:

7036  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why not just start a Bitcoin2 parallel to Bitcoin? on: April 09, 2012, 08:46:35 PM
This is just a twunk. I keep hearing from people that say "Bitcoin is a great idea, but I think I'll wait for Bitcoin 2.0." I hear this a lot. I am not afraid of another exact competition for Bitcoin for the same reason I am not afraid that Litecoin or any other crypto will match Bitcoin.

This is not about logic, it is a marketing tactic that may or may not catch on, but either way would answer the people that complain about early adopters.

Who are you, and what have you done with cbeast's body?
7037  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: mt gox loses another customer on: April 09, 2012, 08:26:46 PM
Your account has been identified as particularly high risk by our assessment department.

Interesting.   Can you share any details why they might have come to that conclusion?   i.e., did you happen to connect using Tor, or were connected to an anoymous VPN provider, or from an access point available to the public?
7038  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: GLBSE - TOS Discussion Thread. on: April 09, 2012, 07:47:18 PM
From which jurisdiction does GLBSE operate?
Look up

That says you would comply with government authority from the U.S. and UK.  I don't see mention though (other than the Sealand snark) regarding from where GLBSE operates.
7039  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Security Hologram with Bitcoin for art on: April 09, 2012, 07:30:26 PM
I like it! This creates a linkage from the original artist as well as providing timestamps that can be trusted.

Though there is a caveat.  I may trust the hologram to protect against a 100 BTC physical bitcoin.  I'm not sure I'ld trust it as sufficient protection that a million dollar piece of artwork is unique.
7040  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Bridging Credit to BTC on: April 09, 2012, 06:49:04 PM
Yes, a large amount of BTC.

Bank wire to an exchange then is the fastest and cheapest (for large amounts) method.
