it's probably because of Barcelona's defense injury woes and the fact that Benzema has returned for the Real Madrid side which automatically makes their attack lethal again. if you watched their recent UCL match, you will know why. I think it will a battle of the forwards, Benz vs Lewy, Vini vs Ansu, Dembele vs Rodrygo. Also, I don't know if Courtois will play in that match. He is very vital at the back. At the moment Benzema is in shape to return to form after the injury because we know his form has dropped a bit after he was injured but for El Clasico maybe it will be a different story. Compared to Dembele, I would prefer to see Raphinha there to make it more exciting because Madrid is filled with pretty good young players like Vini, Rodrygo and Valverde. Xabi Alonso has no history with a team as a manager except Real Sociedad B. Therefore this is a quite big risk to take for Leverkusen.

PSG really lost two points huh.
It was a very lucky moment for Benfica I believe. Because they were really helpless in the second half. PSG did everything they could to get a win here but somehow it ended by a 1-1 draw. PSG are still comfortable in the group of course. But maybe they might have missed the opportunity of guaranteeing their lead by the fourth group matches already.
PSG are not very comfortable in the Ligue 1 as there is a Marseille threat right behind now. Therefore PSG had better secure the lead early here to focus on the Ligue 1 more until last 16 stage in the Champions League starts.
PSG losing points in games that they would have won is a very dissapointing. One true fact about the game is that, Benfica didn't come out to dominate the game with PSG, but we're cautious of their defend lines with and besides it's there prime, let them make good use of it. PSG on top of their UEFEA group table and they needs more playing time in other. PSG boss, Christophe Galtier really wants to win trophies and makes his job to be safe. At least this is still something good although it's a shame they couldn't make 3 points in this match. I understand why Erik ten Hag didn't prefer Ronaldo in the starting eleven. It was because of Rashford's recent form as he made a great impression in the Arsenal game as well. But I really don't get why he insists on not choosing Casemiro for the midfield at the beginning. He entered the game in the 60th minute this time.

Lorient are the most surprising team of the season so far. They have got 22 points after nine weeks passed and we see them only three points away from PSG also. They have beaten quite strong teams compared to them like Rennes, Lens, Lyon and lastly Lille today. By the way the win against Lille was really dramatic. While they were 1-0 ahead they got a red card. Lille scored the equalizer however Lorient still found a way to score to winning goal in the last minutes.
This is a really difficult thing to do for them normally. But this proves how much strong they are mentally now. In a month they are going to host PSG which is a candidate to become an interesting game. We all know how strong PSG are but maybe they would have concentration problems after having a tough game vs Juventus in the CL a few days before. Anyway, let's see how long Lorient keep up the good work. They are on a long road to be able to finish the league in top 5 to qualify for a tournament.
They impress by continuing to receive wins in every match run. 9 matches 7 wins 1 draw and 1 loss clearly this is one very good achievement by a club that is always close to the relegation zone. The previous 2 seasons after they were promoted they had to continue to be in 16th position but this is probably their best achievement by being in 3rd position at the moment for a while. |
