741  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 09, 2014, 03:16:18 PM
Thank you Collider for the fast reply.

Going back to the points..
- So when the item arrives in London I don't have to pay duty to DHL?
- If i'm paying VAT do I pay that to DHL or my local accountant.

- In regards to hosting. Does this mean that when I purchase the item they will not send it to me.. They will run it from their own site and mine for me?
  Please clarify this. Thank you

- You donīt have to pay duty, but you do have to pay ~20% VAT to DHL (they then send that money to the relevant authority).

-Very similar to normal hosting e.g for a server, you pay the hosting company to provide power, space, cooling and internet access for your miner.
So yes, the miner runs from their own site and you own and control it.
Once you decide to take delivery of your miner, you can tell them to send it to you. (or to another hosting provider, a buyer of that hardware....)

Please keep in mind that the hosting offered by spondoolies is not meant to be a permanent solution, as it is quite costly.
There are datacenters all around the world that take sp30s, and they are usually cheaper.

You do not have to decide to have your unit hosted right now, you can still make changes in September.
742  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 09, 2014, 03:05:32 PM
- If I ordered the item next week would you still ship the item to me in September? -yes if the september batch hasnīt been sold out yet
- Do you accept bank wire payment from London - yes, sepa payments are available
- How is the on-going support if there are any damages while shipping the item to London -90 days warranty period (also covers psu defects and other unlikely problems)
I'm asking this because I had a miner shipped from China which came damaged and then could not refund the item.
- Can I plug the miner into the normal UK power supply? 240v? Or will I need a step down transformer? -240V is datacenter standard and is in fact recommended for the sp30
- Does the item come with warranty? yes, see above
- What is the cost of the duty when the item arrives in London? -no duty, only your local VAT
- How long will it take for the SP30 to come to London? -2-3 days from time of shipment (dhl express delivery)
- If there are any faults after delivered will you take the item back under your own shipping costs and repair the item and send it back all inclusive? -covered by warranty
- Finally when I go into the payment section it's asking whether I want hosting too? What is this hosting for? -if you do not want or have the ability to host the unit at home, this might be a cheaper option for you

You can also choose to host the miner at another facility, and have spondoolies ship the miner there.
Hosting might actually be cheaper than running your miner at home (due to higher power costs in the UK +~20%VAT when importing).
Prices for hosting start at around 110$/kW/m and drop until around 70$/kW/m for one year contracts.

Feel free to pm me your local power costs and I can help you find a hosting solution.

@jtoomim

I stated that it is possible (and quite an achievement actually) to cool full racks of sp30s with free air-cooling, so why are you arguing with me?

It is good to see that your airflow numbers seem to match mine. (and that there is a significant safety margin)

I think it would be quite impractical to do even higher densities, as space would be cheaper than the added cooling (aka airflow) on a small area.

It might be possible to achieve even more than 60kW per rack, but nobody needs to do it right now, so why do it?

744  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 09, 2014, 02:52:08 PM
Could someone post a video of the sp30 running, and maybe an unboxing video?
There isnīt too much in the package, it comes wit adapter cables for PSU (which you still need your country-specific PSU cables for), rackmount ears and the miner itself, all snuggly fitted into a protected cardboard box.

The miner itself is slightly less loud than the sp10, and the noise is less whiny.
(The sp10 is so loud on turbo that you DONT want to have it in your house, unless you can put it somewhere in the cellar)
745  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: August 09, 2014, 05:31:42 AM
The usual server power supply breakout boards should work best with ants, either the 750W, 800W or 2000W one.

They are also the most cost effective solutions as far as I know, and if a power supply should fail it can be replaced with another 20$ used server supply.

Sidehack has them on sale (including good quality pcie cables, and minersource is reselling them afaik).

How can your DC bring the dT down to 12C if the machines are limited to ~400cfm?

Generate a tonne of negative pressure at the hot side of the unit and forget about your little puny fans.
While at the same time generating tons of overpressure in the cold aisle using a gas with higher thermal conductivity than air?

I think "tons of negative pressure" are a really hard to realize idea, you would also need to seal off the tiny holes between sp30s and racks to achieve this effectively.

It would mean such high building cost that going with immersion cooling would actually be cheaper.
747  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 08, 2014, 06:56:42 PM
The sp30 is cheaper per GH for both you and spondoolies.

It is also more power-efficient an more quiet, so why would you prefer a sp10?
748  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 08, 2014, 05:30:36 PM
I have a couple SP10's hosted. Are these temps within normal operating? If they aren't I'll need to contact the host.

Temp Front / Back T,B  29 °C / 65,78 °C
It is a bit high, the actual intake temperature might be around 3°C lower than what the sensor says.

26°C is an acceptable temperature for a standard density datacenter though.

You can always share your experience with a certain datacenter in the hardware hosting thread (service discussions threads).
749  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 08, 2014, 12:19:54 PM
How long is the warranty on the sp30?

Will there be a longer warranty period for the 4.5TH sp30s, as the PSU is subject to additional stress?
750  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: XBTec Announce. New ASIC manufacturer. on: August 08, 2014, 06:40:01 AM
If there is "farm software" aka without a gui, why donīt you just start it via commandline arguments?
751  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 08, 2014, 05:58:34 AM
When does Aug batch ship tired of waiting  Huh
The groupbuy batch will ship after August 11th (and I guess even more towards the end of the month).

The August batch 1 might have been started already, but most units should be available at / after August 11th aswell.
752  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 08, 2014, 05:51:41 AM
Well 3kW/2U is pretty much the maximum reasonable density for air-cooling.

With enough airflow that should be achievable through free-air cooling aswell, if each rack gets ventilated above ~9000cfm and good hot-aisle containment (and air removal) is in place.

It will be exciting to see such a high-density 60kW rack be cooled by free-cooling, something that probably hasnīt been achieved on a larger scale yet (mainly because standard equipment has half the density or less).

I guess the RockerBox ASIC is currently a very good chip for immersion cooling, due to its power efficiency and overclocking potential.
753  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: XBTec Announce. New ASIC manufacturer. on: August 07, 2014, 12:46:26 PM
There is a reason why there are nearly no big BE200 miners, and that reason is that the chip isnīt up-to-date.

Once Bitmaine releases their 0.55-0.65W/GH S4, nobody will buy miners withe BE200 anymore, unless they are heavily discounted (at which point the manufacturing of them doesnīt really turn too much profit).

It doesnīt make sense to pre-order a 0.8W/GH miner now, if you can just buy a S3 pretty much from stock....
754  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 07, 2014, 05:27:51 AM
Question about the SP30 power supplies: do the SP30 units ship with power cords, or is that up to the customer to provide? If the customer is to provide the cables, what is the plug type on the SP30 PSUs? From the images it appears to be a standard C13/C14 coupler, but can anyone confirm? I haven't been able to find that information on the website.
Power extension cords are provided, but the customer needs to buy their own power cord for the socket.

You could use such a cord: IEC320 C13 to NEMA 5-15P SJT 13A

You will basically have to see what kind of outlet you are using and adjust your wall end of the power cord accordingly.
755  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 06, 2014, 07:51:00 PM
@Zvisha

Is there another, more powerfull power supply with the same pin arrangement?

Not that we are aware of. AC2DC is the limiting factor of this machine.

There is this:
http://minersource.net/products/delta-dps2000w-server-power-supply
164A Maximum @ 220v.

The question is whether the pin setup is compatible to the PSUs normally shipped within the sp30.

It would obviously not be feasable to attach an adapter (that doesnīt yet exist) to a PSU (that will then no longer fit into the miner housing)
756  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S3 Setup [HD] on: August 06, 2014, 07:43:01 PM
I have one S3 that I set to 500GH, and it is stable at that speed over several days.

The only thing I did (because I was bored) is adding small heatsinks on the DCDCs. (which might not have helped at all, I just put them on there because I had them lying around)

I am quite confident that most miners run stably at 475GH without any physical modification, so just try it over a 24h period and see what the stats say.
757  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How does CEX.io split GH\s ? on: August 06, 2014, 07:39:55 PM
I donīt think you would be able to build such a software unless you also have your own pool.

What you can do in some miners though is split a percentage of your rig to another pool etc.

I think the cloud hosting software from gawminers might also allow something like that.
758  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: A1 miner is it good on: August 06, 2014, 07:18:32 PM
As described, antminers will be the better deal.

Most S3 do 475GH easily, and many 500Gh. (and every unit does at least 450GH)

The A1 miner should also be much louder (if that is of concern to you).

Dont forget to buy a suitable power supply for the ordered antminers though.
759  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: August 06, 2014, 07:10:59 PM
In stock mode with the ASICs at 218.75, how much power does an S3 pull?  The OP says 366 watts, while dogie's guide says 340.  If it's 340 I should be able to run 4 S3's off of one regular 120v circuit right?  340x4 = 1360 watts.  That's about 75% utilization of power...  Should be within the safe zone..
Yes you can.

Most ppl put the safe zone for a continous load at 80% anyway.

It is more of a guideline than a solid limit, you should be fine.
760  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: August 06, 2014, 06:56:13 PM
You will get around 10% lower hashrate at 120V compared to 240V.

I get that (4.1Th at 110/120v), but would you use 2500, 2640 or 3000W at the wall to get there?
Quote
I'm now getting 4178 GH/s on 122 V while using 2752 W (2*1376) at the wall for an efficiency of 0.659 J/GH.
This is on 120V.

There should be around a 3% difference in PSU efficiency vs 240V, and obviously a total of around 10% increased power provided on 240V.

This all works out to the sp30 running at 4.5TH on 3kW of power at 220V+.

Total energy efficiency should be slightly better at lower hashing speeds, but even better on lower speeds and 240V compared to lower speeds and 120V.
