There are no females on the internet.

Haha why does everyone keep saying that? Is it a meme? Have I missed something?

Just for your reference: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/there-are-no-girls-on-the-internet

 Grin

Ah, I had a feeling I was missing something! Thanks for the article Smiley

743  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When quoting small amounts of bitcoin, how do you call 100 satoshis? on: October 12, 2014, 05:27:50 PM
If we have satoshis why can't we have nakamotos?

100 satoshis= 1 nakamoto

Why not? : )

Two units named after the same person doesn't seem good to me...

Why not? He would love it.
744  Other / Off-topic / Re: Am I the only girl on here? : ( on: October 12, 2014, 05:25:07 PM
I have been posting for 6 months and this has been the first time I came across a female user. Or at least I think so.

There are 3 of us in this thread alone, maybe a lot more out there Smiley

ha i just got the "no cupcakes for you part." nice one fabiola, you're pretty clever!  Smiley

Thanks, you seem nice Smiley maybe i could let you have a couple cupcakes after all. x

Can you send me a fresh cupcake through the Internet instantly with small fee?
I guess not, and so probably bitcoin is still better than cupcake. Just kidding Tongue

BTW, welcome to bitcointalk. I know it is a bit late lol. Cheesy

Thanks! Lol, that would be awesome wouldn't it?

Just shouting out an one word response without a single sentence of reasoning is what I refer to as pointless post, and it doesn't bring the discussion any forward.

Agreed.

Thanks teukon: one word can be enough, and need not be characterised as 'shouting'.

yes. Smiley
748  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cruise ship? on: October 11, 2014, 12:47:42 PM

How much does it cost to rent a cruise ship? Roughly?

Depends on how big you want it to be I mean how many persons will have to get on board because it will be useless to rent a cruise ship that has 250 capacity when there will only be 20 persons on board

This is why I recommend a Catamaran or a Gulet, the experience will be much more interesting and we will save a lot on fuel Wink

I wanted a swimming pool cause it would be a fun addition especially if we wanted to organise competitions, etc, but it's not a deal breaker I guess.
A Catamaran, with or without sails?
If we get a Gulet, I know how to sail, but we would need a few more ppl on board who also know how to sail, it's a team effort, plus I wouldn't be stong enough for some tasks if it's a big one, and I'm scared of heights i.e. climbing up the masts is a no-no for me.

I also noticed there are a lot of girl gamers from the UK. I think that's a good thing

It is, but gaming...you know, it's not a waste of time but they're not really changing the world either. I was talking about proper techy girls doing amazing things out there. Although is some cases gaming can be a good start I guess.

generally in tech it's mostly dudes.  normal.

Ah, yes but that may change soon though. There are loads of super smart girls out there (myself excluded) and nowadays they're being even more encouraged to go techy.

One of the top PHP programmers in the world is a female. Woman named Sarah Golemon from the UK. she works at facebook i believe.

South Korea and Japan have a huge techy girl population as well.
752  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cruise ship? on: October 11, 2014, 12:31:40 AM
It seems you didn't read the whole topic dude!!!!

We or at least me want a ship only for us! Because if you want to go on a normal cruise just book one and get shitty internet! I am trying to make a personalized offer here that can even let you in the nearest port to your hometown!

And if you my friend trust the internet from a cruise ship then I am sorry for your BTC and all your security in terms of online things!

Also my dear friend
tell me how much do you think this thing costs?

How much do you think cruiseships cost? What are you proposing exactly? I've read the thread and it seems merely a fantasy pipedream. If you're worried about the internet on a ship I'd suggest you not bother with one, because clearly it wouldn't be suitable for your needs. I also don't think bitcoin will work out anywhere for you either as to use it publicly you'll likely have to use public wifi or your cell phone and they aren't exactly secure either.

I can assure you my phone is secure!Oh and guess what my phone is a BB Smiley so I don't stay at wifi owners pity!
As a side note I have 2GB of data anywhere in Europe every month!
Beat my subscription now!

as about wifi .... I don't even use wifi at work .... that's why I have unlimited data plan ... wanna see what I am doing on my phone ... hack my cellphone network Smiley

Cruise ships can be rented! That thing can't be rented as easy as a ship ... you have to buy it and then sell it Smiley if you find a buyer

How much does it cost to rent a cruise ship? Roughly?

753  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cruise ship? on: October 10, 2014, 05:23:21 PM
I think a cruise would be pretty cool if it was just like a floating conference or expo. Would make it a bit more exciting, especially if they stopped off at some cities where bitcoin was used a lot.

Europe? Or is the majority in America?

Just curiosity, what are your views about bitcoin and altcoins?

I think it is awesome, it has saved us hundreds in fees when transferring money.
I started by hiring equipment to mine for me at mbigas.com but now I have a couple of my own miners.

I'm glad you got some miners of your own, cloud mining can be a bit tricky, especially now, one of my friends mentioned something about negative profit today, I don't even know what that's about, I need to ask him about that.
755  Other / Off-topic / Re: Am I the only girl on here? : ( on: October 10, 2014, 03:17:13 PM

This made me laugh, although it's a bit mean I guess. No cupcakes for you!
that means you've a good sense of humor :-)

Or it means you've both got a poor one. I don't know anyone who thinks 'get back in the kitchen' jokes are funny, except humourless d-bags on the internet.

Lol They're not that funny but the bold huge font made a huge difference this time, I was like almost in stitches.
756  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cruise ship? on: October 10, 2014, 03:12:45 PM
I think the bitcoin cruise ship would be a good idea. They do like music festivals on them sometimes and I've always wanted to go on one. I'm sure most of the modern ships are also equipped with the internet so that shouldnt be a problem.

It seems you don't know a lot about internet, the cost of the internet depends on the boat position on the map ... if the boat is near a country coast you can get internet from that country in some ways, if you are here https://www.google.ro/maps/@31.0530448,-46.8915094,8z?hl=en then you my friend will have to pay for satellite internet and not every boat has satellite internet because that is a little expensive.

It seems more likely that you don't know a lot about cruiseships. I've been on many cruise ships and everyone of them has had internet, though the speed/service can be up and down.

He's got a point...

757  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cruise ship? on: October 10, 2014, 12:11:05 PM
And what? All people who are in the cruise are bitcoin geeks. lol

Yes but that's the whole point! You get to interact in person, network, brainstorm new ideas, etc! Plus there are other fun things to do, apart from shows everynight (if included) we could organise fun activities, especially if we have a swimming pool, sort of like a mini Bitcoin olympics, like playing Marco Polo in the pool, for btc, I bet that's never been done before...or a water polo tournament, or any kind of fun activities, like the sort of thing corporations do to help their employees bond.

That is correct. Smiley That will be a happy place to be..

Well, let's do it! We need to spread the word a bit more, we need more people on board! Also, where did Richard " serje" Branson go? He's got contacts and some priceless nautical knowledge, we need him on this boat in case it sinks and we end up in some desert island.
758  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cruise ship? on: October 10, 2014, 12:04:53 PM
I think rather than a conference or meeting it should be a Cruise ship for the party of celebrating bitcoins $10K mark Cheesy or either way just to celebrate bitcoins. Time off from the computers and bitcointalk (even though that is extremely hard for me ). Man they should have bitcoin cruise ships by now!!!

Yep, like I said, it doesn't have to be all about brainstorming new ideas, we can mix it up, have some fun!

Just curiosity, what are your views about bitcoin and altcoins?

I think Bitcoin is the flagship, the others well, some will die I'm sure.
760  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When quoting small amounts of bitcoin, how do you call 100 satoshis? on: October 10, 2014, 11:05:13 AM

Imagine you are a Japanese tourist on your first day in the USA. At home you were told that the US currency is dollars and cents.

Now people are suddenly talking about nickels, dimes, jeffersons, greenbacks and whatnot...
Wouldn't that be confusing to you?

My website is intended for people who are new to bitcoin. It's for people who just have their first day in bitcoinland.
Thus I want to use as few units as possible. I'm afraid that any additional units might be confusing to my site's users.

(Of course, geeks and insiders might still talk about micros, bits, finneys, ubits, and whatever.)

im saying that average joe will have DOZENS of names slang names.  and then the big whale scientific community will have their mili and micro names.

all im saying is that having just 1 or 2 names shouldn't be a declared rule where no common/slang names cant be used, as it is not helping anyone. but i think finding all possible universal and easy to understand, say, write names. and then whilst average joe uses their preferences depending on their smaller local communities and dialects. that we then find 2-4 universal language names.

at the moment. if a poll was done to say how much is "1bit" we all know from the other polls already done and the dozens of similar topics that well over 500 out of 700 will remember/recognize bit referred to 100sat.

at the moment. if a poll was done to say how much is "1finney" we all know from the other polls already done and the dozens of similar topics that well over 30 out of 700 will remember/recognise bit referred to 100sat.

so right now more people recognise 'bit' as a universal term. that does not mean that with the right PR a good few MEME's being posted in the right places and certain people talking about 'finney' in a certain context that 'finney' might take over.

at the moment 100sat is still common place followed by bit. but until people actually have huge need to spend things in actual 100 sat amounts and a symbol/icon as been adopted for it, safe bet is to stick with 100sat for now... unless you personally want to lead the path of an adoption of a proper name.

its still to early to shout that there can be only 1. and it will be declared 100sat. so be open to evolution when it happens

Franky is right, I cannot remember the last time someone called a ten pound note "ten pounds". It's always 10 quid, or tenner, or Pavarotti (cause he's a tenor, tenner...get it?).  And...Plenty of Japanese tourist over here, not a problem.
