7402  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I am not a libertarian, can I still use Bitcoin? on: March 14, 2013, 01:48:32 PM
I am a liberal and I like/use bitcoin. I don't care if that's ok with anyone.  Cheesy
7403  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-03-13 Bitcoin on Bloomberg TV on: March 13, 2013, 07:45:38 PM
It's funny to watch someone being interviewed as an expert on bitcoin when he clearly knows very little about it.
7404  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is booming in Israel on: March 13, 2013, 07:37:45 PM
Interesting to see it exploding in Israel. Thanks for the update!
7405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Downloading the bitcoin blockchain on AT&T’s mobile plan would cost $360 on: March 13, 2013, 07:33:06 PM
If you are running a full client on your smartphone you will want to transfer the blockchain from a computer via a data cable, or download it while in wifi mode. You may also consider using a VPN when connecting through a public wifi.
7406  Economy / Lending / Re: 2.3 BTC loan request - Every little helps. on: March 13, 2013, 07:27:48 PM
Why do I feel like I'm being interrogated....  Sad
It's not you man. There have been soooooooo many scammers here that the default position is to assume you are a crook. Even though I have a *high post count and have been here a while, I think i would be grilled also. It's not personal.
7407  Local / Off-Topic (Italiano) / Re: Alla ricerca di scarponi da montagna Alico on: March 13, 2013, 07:11:16 PM
Grazie a tutti!

grazie.

Also be wary of "investing" in bitcoin. It can do anything other money can do, including investing. However speculating in an unregulated market can lead to ugly losses. Don't invest anything you cant loose %100 of.
You might want to see the real power of bitcoin as a currency first. Once you have some coin, the world is your garage sale.
7410  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Smarter to do 401k or post-tax investments? on: March 13, 2013, 02:38:36 PM
...
For example: A few years ago a local health food co-op...

That kind of investment is not only risky but requires a lot of effort.  I'm just not confident that I have the free time to devote to picking a risky investment like that.  Bitcoin is by far the only risky investment that I've ever really put a lot of effort into.  If I were to stop contributing to my 401k, the funds would most likely be divided mostly in the S&P500 & a few bitcoin.  Of course that ratio could change as time goes on.
Understandable. In my particular example it was not so risky because I knew the co-op has had a cult like following since the 1970s. But in my experience risk is proportional to reward. Bitcoin is an example of this. I consider it to be risky, and rewardy.  Grin
7411  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Smarter to do 401k or post-tax investments? on: March 13, 2013, 02:13:54 PM
I really feel for Americans who are depending on their 401K for retirement. It's getting hard to believe it will be there when they get old. The problem with other investments is that you have to be able to risk and go bust. 401ks are designed to be safe, steady, broadly indexed investments. But they only work well if the economy in general is healthy.  I say diversify and look for investments you know well.

For example: A few years ago a local health food co-op wanted to expand. As a member I knew there was a big market near their proposed location. The store was responsibly managed and was profitable. So I offered to loan them some of the money they needed for the expansion with a repayment horizon of 5 years. The store is up and running and I'm in the black ink. What I knew about in this case was the co-op market here. Anyone could have done it.
7412  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about BitCoin Wallets on: March 13, 2013, 01:58:59 PM
Hi.
In the qt client you should find the option to produce a receiving address that allows others to send you money. If someone wants to pay you, then simply give them this address. You can produce as many receiving addresses as you like. likewise other bitcoin peers can display/send their receiving addresses so that you may send to them.
7413  Economy / Speculation / Re: The rally is over on: March 13, 2013, 01:47:07 PM
ya know, I'm not really concerned about any loss of confidence among people who don't understand bitcoin. It only take a few who do understand that bitcoin is not "broken" to buy the price back up.

7415  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Gun freedom advocates - what weapons shouldn't be legally available? on: March 13, 2013, 03:49:13 AM
I don't here at work, but I should be home early enough tonight to make you one. I'll PM when I have it.

Oooh, I'd like a look, though it will have real legal weight if it's on a big firm's letterhead or a local lawyer each one of us has on retainer.
It does not have much "legal weight". Any fool who signs it would take on significant liability, but it is more humor advocacy than something I would expect a store owner to shake on.

I put it here ( http://www.filedropper.com/contract ) for anyone who wants it.

Jeez, I'm sorry you guys have to live someplace where you are always in fear for your lives.  This "Wisconsin" you speak of sounds horrible.  Oddly, I live in a US state named Wisconsin too but it must be different since I've never been in fear for my life. Ever.
I'm not at all a fearful person. Wisconsin is one of the safest places and these are some of the safest times. Still, things happen.  It's not about the likelihood of violence for me, it's about the fundamental right to protect myself. That should be timeless, because peace is so transient.

Frankly, guns are not that big a part of my life. But nobody goes after my other hobbies with such hysteria.
7416  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Does bitcoin idea has a future, or will it get banned by governments? on: March 12, 2013, 08:14:54 PM
History also shows that people do whatever they want, no matter what the government says.  Wink

This is like saying Garry Kasparov is a shitty chess player. Then saying "By the way, I don't know how to play chess."
7418  Economy / Speculation / Re: Does the latest bug open the network up to attack? on: March 12, 2013, 07:54:22 PM
I suspect miners are feverishly patching to get back online before the hash rate returns.

7420  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A successful DOUBLE SPEND US$10000 against OKPAY this morning. on: March 12, 2013, 07:48:55 PM
If I am reading this correctly, it could only happen during this weird period when we had several blockchains floating around. Is that correct?

Yes, the "Schroedinger Cat period" during which the coins are both alive and dead. As soon as the blockchain became whole again, either one or the other has to materialise.
Haha, I like that analogy.
