8402  Economy / Goods / Re: Come in and Trade Ammo or Talk about Guns! on: May 25, 2012, 05:32:41 PM
I need another gun like I need a third shoe. But still, I will be following this thread and fully support a guns and ammo section of the forums.

I would be interested in .380ACP, 9mm. AK ammo, maybe some .410 00 shells.
I also may be interested in services related to guns. A Wisconsin FFL who accepts BTC would be helpful. Or a BTC gunsmith. (I'm considering having "A curse on one who would use me for ill" engraved on the slide of my Kahr K9).
Lastly, I am sort of looking at AR-15's or SCAR's. Piston operated models only.

If God is the source of our rights, them which God are you talking about? There are hundreds of Gods with highly divergent opinions on what rights we should have.

This is a good general resource for info on crowdfunding and the recently passed bill.

8405  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [ANN] 700,000 Cash Deposit Locations in Brazil, Russia, USA - BitInstant on: May 24, 2012, 08:36:38 PM
Testing Bitinstant and would like answer for this:

1- "Tried" to buy 500 dollars with boleto (Brazil)
2-  I looked the value of Real and (1 dollar is = 2,05 Real).
3- Clicked send funds and then go.
4- Boleto say I need to pay 1044 Reais
So I ask:
If 500 x 2,05 = 1025
Boleto Fee: 3,95 x 2,05 = 8,09
1025 + 8,09 = 1033,09

Why Boleto is 1044 and not 1033,09?

Suggestion: I think on quote cash transaction should show the value used in the dollar/real conversion.
A few pages back in this thread you will find others asking the same thing. It is apparently being looked at, and may be a bug related to how the real is calculated. If I understand correctly.
8406  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any hope of getting bitcoin now? (dwolla 30 day bullcrap : () on: May 24, 2012, 08:32:43 PM
bitinstant is making it much easier to get coins now.  If you're still looking for a way, head over to their site.
+1 for the win!!11!
Now it is as easy as buying a beer.

Several episodes of "Frontline" have been about economics and the collapse. Frontline is on PBS and is perhaps the best investigative journalism on TV. You can stream it from the link below.

8409  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [ANN] 700,000 Cash Deposit Locations in Brazil, Russia, USA - BitInstant on: May 24, 2012, 07:02:50 PM
I would like to see all those location options disappear at that step of the process... just choose "local cash deposit" and then when you get to the map, you'll see everything like walmarts, 7-11, cvs, whatever..
+1
The main consideration for me is proximity. If one cares about the vendor they can still choose from among the nearby options.
8410  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin for cash on: May 24, 2012, 06:34:52 PM
I would but I'm still a noob so I don't think I'm allowed

Soon you will be released from noob jail.
But you may want to consider btcnearme.com or one of the other suggestions. There are, as of yet, no "shops" to buy BTC in the UK. But if you type "London" in the location you may be surprised how many people you can find locally.

I suspect Bit-Pay will see some VC funding soon.

Hope not. Hope Bit-Pay will be able to grow on its own.

We are going alone as far as we can, but at some point we will hit a wall.  You cannot possibly compete with a company like Square who has $100,000,000 of investors money to spend, and those investors are out there every day talking up the company and promoting it.
When/if the time comes, I'm ready to fund. growvc.com is a good site to look for investors.
8413  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [ANN] 700,000 Cash Deposit Locations in Brazil, Russia, USA - BitInstant on: May 23, 2012, 07:28:34 PM
Here is what I did.
I went to bitinstant.com and followed the screens through trustcash.com. After printing my payment slip I drove it to the nearest location (Wells Fargo). I gave them the exact amount for the transfer, and after a few puzzled looks from the teller she did the transfer.
That was at 2:05pm. I will update this post when the cash arrives.

EDIT: BAM! 2:19pm and I'm in the money. No ID, no delay, no hassles. This is how I will get coins in the future.

Can someone walk my dumb a$$ through this? So, I go into Walmart and I do what now?  Undecided

I just want to be clear on the process as I'm sure the Walmart employee will not be.

Dumb a$$ #2 has same question(s).

BTW, this looks great, Yankee!

All hail to Smart[phone] a$$ guru!

that the problem of b2b people lacking marketing skills offering products to general consumer - everything should be in plain sight in regards to process when dealing with general consumers.

checking out "how it works" page at bitinstant.com doesn't explain process very well at all:

Quote
How it works

BitInstant is the fastest and often easiest way to move your funds from one place to another

In a traditional transfer, your money moves from place to place, costing time each step of the way. Our solution is simple: we keep balances within each of these payment networks. As soon as we see your payment from one network, we can credit you instantly on another.

Select below for a tutorial

well, "tutorial" only has select options for "pay from" and "pay to" and couple of inputs for destination account and notification email address in what seem nonfunctional form. I don't see any tutorial there or explanations how it works exactly in terms what i should be doing. Also from this tutorial isn't clear what to use for 711/Walmart/CVS

A following explanation would pretty much clear how the process works:

- fill out simple form
- print a receipt
- take printed receipt to a store
- have a person at cash register scan the receipt (assuming that's what they will do) and pay the balance due
- when you get home, your money should be in account at selected destination ( roughly 30minutes)

done!
Thanks serge! That does clear it up for me. So, I need money and a receipt from bitinstant.  I'm going to try this on my way home tonight!
8415  Economy / Speculation / Re: So what is fueling the support now? Is that potential Greece collapse? on: May 23, 2012, 04:34:27 PM
Maybe support is just increcing as little by little people are hearing about BTC?

8417  Other / Off-topic / Re: The Mysterious Voynich Manuscript on: May 23, 2012, 01:42:39 PM
Interesting stuff. I recall that the frequency of letters and length of words may imply that this is a real language. However I still think it is a fake language. Another clue is the botanical section. The plants depicted there are clearly not real. Many of them are composites of several plants thrown together.
8418  Other / Off-topic / Re: The Mysterious Voynich Manuscript on: May 22, 2012, 02:38:11 PM
I was obsessed with this one month. My best guess... It is a "fake" doctor book. There are several other examples out there. It is hard for us to understand, but there was a time when books and reading were magical. At this time there was a trade in fake books that looked to the illiterate like real writing. A quack doctor would look you over then consult his book and sell you some home made medicine.

8420  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transaction into my wallet has lost on: May 21, 2012, 08:21:00 PM
The first question is... Have you downloaded the blockchain to your computer? When you first install and run the bitcoin client it will begin to download the blockchain. This will take a long time the first time you do it, maybe overnight. You can check by moving your mouse over the icon in the lower right corner of the client. It will tell you how many connections you have and how much of the chain has been loaded. Once the recent block containing your transaction is loaded, you will see confirmations appearing and your bitcoins will show up.
If you can see them at blockchain.info at the correct address then your fine. It just has not been sent to your computer yet.
