761  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is it worth it to build a 6 or 8 GPU mining rig today? on: August 24, 2017, 05:39:28 AM
Let me put this way, if you are a business owner and you can invest your money in something that will ROI in six month don't do it. If your money is sitting in a bank or an invesment fund that gives 10% profit per year, then yeah mining is still profitable.

Uh... what?  Ask any real-world business owner if they would like to make a 100% return on their investment capital (not ROI!) in 6 months and 100% of them will take that deal.  Many real-world businesses don't make any profit  for 1 to 2 years.  Every cent of revenue goes back into the business, and many owners don't take a salary in the beginning.
762  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU Limits? on: August 24, 2017, 05:33:19 AM
See that's the thing. Why do so many people mine on Windows? & why are they not using the MB onboard graphics instead of wasting one of their badass GPUs on a display? I've lived in the terminal for 25 years, it's home to me but I get that it can be scary for beginners. Still I assumed that people wanting to get every ounce of performance out of their hardware would have said goodbye to Windows anything long ago..

A mining rig like a server needs no display, nor does it need a mouse or even keyboard once setup. Power, ethernet, done.

Because Windows has great tools for GPU mining for one.  And if you use an external mining rig controller like Awesome Miner then you don't even need to ever use the console of a windows mining rig... just power, ethernet and done.

763  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone Switching from Mining BTC to BCC/BCH? on: August 24, 2017, 05:26:35 AM
We all knew that an "altcoin" could one day replace bitcoin's popularity.  Why is anyone surprised when one is attempting to do so?
764  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Awesome Miner]- Powerful Windows GUI to manage and monitor up to 5000 miners on: August 24, 2017, 04:37:15 AM
These are some really awesome features coming up, Patrike (pun intended).  Will the Afterburner GPU Clocking Profiles only be available in the Premium edition?  Also, how much will you be charging for the cloud interface?

I got my DNR locked away on a paper wallet. I'm going for the long HOLD

Is there a paper wallet generator you can share?

https://dnraddress.org  Cool

But thinking about it... you can't stake from a paper wallet, can you?
766  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fifth alt coin thread last four got too big. on: August 22, 2017, 11:10:50 PM
I was reading  about the amd thread ripper 1920x    claims of 890h  for cryptonight mining

that is about 5 bucks a day using  220 watts  which is about 6 kwatts   60 cents

of course   a mobo + a 1920x + ram + cooler  = 1300

It's hard to scale with this model, though.  Unless you were looking to make it the base system for adding GPUs on top.

I think there is a thread here where a guy bought some Open compute blades and was doing pretty well in comparison to a GPU rig price and profit wise.
767  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining NEO coin on: August 22, 2017, 11:04:30 PM
so how does it work?Say i buy 100 Neo coins, so how do i benefit, other then price going up.?

thanks

You will get a cut of the newly minted coins and any transaction fees... just like what would happen in a POW coin.  If Neo is fully pre-mined or is not creating new coins anymore then you will only get a cut of the transaction fees.  Either way, the idea is that you will generate a passive income sort of like interest.  The more useful the coin is the more transaction fees will happen, and thus more money you make from your stake.  POS is a clever way to get people to tie up their money for a long time in a coin ecosystem.  This gives the coin some semblance of stable "value".
768  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: where does the ether go from my ether wallet on: August 22, 2017, 10:55:24 PM
can someone help clarrify the proccess. where does the ether go after is in my ether wallet wich is fast to convert from ether to usd? maybe even a place that i dont have to nbeccisarily cashout but change the ether to usd atleast and wich im assuming exchange is fastest to get the best dollor from the ether

The ether goes to the person you traded it to at the exchange.
769  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New miner, need investment advice on: August 22, 2017, 07:08:09 PM
Can someone Provide me a Post from the past that  Actually someone said YES to a question "should i Invest  20k or 10k on mining?"

GO to Ethereum forum and see every year its the same thing I remember a Member the smoking man(he is actually from the good members but History proved him wrong everytime, at least till now)     was "arguing' against mining about a year ago in march or febrouar 2016?  so what did we learned from the "Bad mouthing of 2016 against Mining? people with 6x480 in one year made 100k$  (180mhs ETH x Months was 50 Eth as of June or july 2016)

and  again other members  about 2 weeks before ZEC   and we remember how ZEC started and how many MONEYZ some people have made,

<SNIP>

How much more would they of made if they invested all of their money straight into ETH? or ZEC?

Unless they have money to burn (the best kind of money) who in their right mind would have plopped down $20K on a new coin like Eth or Zec a year ago?  There were no guarantees.  Same as today...  Would you invest $20K in Signatum, Denarius, or Zencash right now... and be strong enough to hold for a year?

Awesome Miner must be running on a Windows computer - either on the same network as your miners or remote (at your home location) over a VPN connection. (...)

Is there any smart & easy way to connect rigs and AM via some 3rd party super-easy VPN Software? I thought about setting up OpenVPN but maybe theres a easier aproach? Just curious what people are using.

I've use neorouter in the past with great success.  These days, I just my router's OpenVPN setup.  It's a little more tricky to setup, but it's rock-solid.

How much DNR should I put in my wallet so the PoS to be profitable? Is there any formula how can I calculate the PoS gains witht the amount of coins put in my wallet?
Example for 1000 DNR how much will I get per day approximately?
Tnx
It is very interesting why there are so many people concerned about POS%.
POS% really matters only if the coin price is stable and high enough. Only if the coin is used, if it has trading volumes etc.
5-10-20-100% from zero is ZERO.

P.S. I don't mean that DNR price us 0.

There's not a huge amount of transactions on the network yet, but give it some time... this coin is only a few months old.
773  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Baikal group buy Giant+ on: August 21, 2017, 07:08:27 PM
I am in contact with baikalminer for a group buy on Giant+.
Please let me know if there are people who are interested in with how many items they are going to buy.
Price at this stage unkown. I guess depending on how many items they can sell.

I'd buy a couple if they are around $1k each, and we knew when they were shipping, and what escrow options we have with you.
774  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Baikal Giant Miner Plus- Group Buy $1000 on: August 21, 2017, 06:47:53 PM
Can you give us more details like the other guys asked about?  When will these ship and will you accept escrow?  I'd be interested in a couple.
775  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My first mining rig, any issues? on: August 19, 2017, 04:19:54 AM
It looks fine except your CPU is probably overkill.  A simple Pentium or Celeron is usually more than enough... unless you wanted to experiment with mining CPU-only coins.
776  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Question about mining Monero on Minergate. on: August 16, 2017, 04:46:37 AM
The unconfirmed amount will be credited to your account once the blocks mature.

But... I know you are just starting out, but I don't recommend you continue with Minergate.  You will get low hashrates through their software, and though it looks slick, will be a waste of time.  Probably the best starter/newbie miner software is Nicehash's tool.  It will teach you a little bit about hashrates, different and profitable coins, and you will be earning a little bit so that you can continue reading and learning.  Then when you are ready, there are a ton of options here in this forum.  Anything from whole Operating Systems dedicated to mining or profit-switching, to specific mining programs for specific coins and more.
777  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Need some advice with a mining rig on: August 16, 2017, 04:38:55 AM
The hashrates will be different for each algorithm/coin.

Check whattomine.com to see example rates for your 1060s.

By the way, what are you being charged for that rig?
778  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fifth alt coin thread last four got too big. on: August 15, 2017, 11:21:02 PM

Nobody missed your silly point.  You still need to mine a minimum amount of eth before you can cash out, you can join pools that pay sooner.  There is no next best thing to constantly chase if you dont want to.

And you just confirmed my point.  Tongue

Quote
There is good old reliable fallback options such as zec and skien.  These have been consistently paying 30-50% more than ETH.

For nvidia cards certainly.  I think many people just like ETH, and with the shortage of AMD cards recently, are content to buy nvidia cards to mine it.  There are people out there who want to mine BTC as well, and while we can agree that it's a tough adventure, they have their reasons.

{snip}

Quote
Point is you don't have to do much chasing to mine the most valuable coin and the reasons people mine ETH and hold it hoping it will go up is because they are lazy, uninformed or have no idea what they are doing.

I have no doubt that there are plenty of people out there with those qualities you mentioned.  But to call them silly, is trying to fit your priorities onto them.  Sometimes I'll turn on my profit-miners in awesome miner to mining pool hub just to accumulate a wide variety of coins (I don't auto-convert to BTC).  If it was "profitable" for the brief period at one time, I reckon they will come back around again later.  I tend to look at the longer average of a coin rather than to ride the waves.  I mined sigt for a while, denarius before that, chaincoin before that, lbry before that (and occasionally come back to it), Zencash before that, Skein before that... I'm currently mining diamond.  It's consistently a top performer... but I came to realize, I'm chasing these coins for the wrong reasons.

Quote
I have a bunch of friends like that, they are all of those things above plus as you say have limited time.  But once I showed them the way they are kicking themselves for all those missed profits.

Are you autoconverting to BTC at a pool?  Which one?
779  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fifth alt coin thread last four got too big. on: August 15, 2017, 05:38:57 PM

Actually  if you mine zec or sigt or skein  on nicehash and auto convert  to btc  then buying eth and holding the eth,

you will earn more then mining and holding eth if you have 1080ti's

there are exceptions  but that is pretty much the facts.

A lot depends on how many cards  but mining zec skein and sigt have worked better for the most part.

I think my point was missed.  Chasing after a hot coin to convert to a "stable" coin is gambling just as much as mining the "stable" coin and holding.

What happens when Sigt has a flash crash and you are left holding a bag of now less worthwhile coins?  Mining with a single 1080ti on Equihash at Nicehash will require you to wait 14 days to generate enough BTC to allow them to pay out.  Sure you can have more GPUs to decrease that wait period but you aren't in control of your income, you are depending on the "market" at Nicehash to deliver.  Plus you pay 4% to transfer out to your external wallet from Nicehash.  No thanks.

By no means am I advocating mining ETH with a 1080ti... but people have their legitimate reasons.  Mostly because they don't want to have to babysit their rigs chasing a hot coin, dealing with new versions of miners, compiling from source or just trusting that newbie posting who claims an extra 3% hashrate increase,or lose tons of profit in autoconversion schemes, conversion fees, transfer fees, etc.

I wish I could retire and watch rigs all day chasing after the "next big thing".  I envy you Philip.

780  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fifth alt coin thread last four got too big. on: August 15, 2017, 02:25:00 PM
Seeing quite a few people in here posting things like I will mine Eth until the 1st NOV,  or I mine such and such coin because it is going to go up in value!

This is just silly.  Stop doing this now.  Esp on 1080ti mining ETH is just silly.  Always mine what is most profitable and buy the coins you want.  In the case of ETH you can probably get 30-40 more ETH this way.

Just saying...

Why buy when you can mine them?

I guess I will have to spoon feed you.  Here is real world numbers as of right this second.

Say one 1080ti can mine $2.74 worth of ETH per day.  It can also mine $4.15 per day on skein or maybe $4.50 on signatum.

So how much BTC does $2.74 buy you? 0.00065

How much BTC does $4.50 get you?  0.00107

How do you buy ETH? with BTC. So you get almost double the ETH mining the more profitable coin.  I mean I am pretty awesome at basic maths but pretty sure this should be REALLY REALLY obvious.  Also a bunch of pools and sites auto convert to BTC so you can avoid transactions and sale fees.

You can't argue that ETH might go up because you are already buying more ETH.  If ETH goes upto the point its more profitable to mine then you could switch over.  You can leave that BTC as BTC because it is getting really good gains.  Or you can pick and choose a good time to convert it to ETH if ETH price comes down.

Yes, we are both equally gambling.

You can either mine the hot coin right now, and hope that it holds it's good conversion-to-BTC price so that you can get more BTC to buy ETH... losing conversion fees and transfer fees along the way, mind you.  Or you can just mine ETH directly and get what you put into the effort.

Sometimes it's better to mine the most consistent coin rather than the hot coin.

By the way, there's no need for the snarky "spoon feed" comment.
