766  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC testing on main net is wrong, PERIOD. on: October 04, 2012, 06:42:20 PM
Replying to agree with op and to bump the thread.. this should be a huge shitstorm.
767  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: "Avalon" ASIC, announcement & pre-order. second wave @ 9:00am EDT, 10/03 on: October 04, 2012, 06:39:00 PM
In the first batch, I bought one more than I wanted, for the purpose of reselling later when all 300 were sold. Now that it's unlikely anyone can buy more Avalons for $1300, is anyone interested in buying my extra one for more? I'll probably setup an auction thread, if there is enough interest, and assuming ngzhang/Yifu can change the ship address on my order to the auction winner's. So, who missed the boat and is willing to pay a premium to get a first-batch Avalon?

I'll pay 1299.01$
768  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: miners: how are you going to react to the reward halving? on: October 02, 2012, 06:47:13 PM
I will continue mining aslong as the profit exceeds: 1. the power costs
                                                                    2. the deappreciation of resale value of hardware, factoring in the unlikeley occational breaking.

I guess for me this means something like under 7million difficulty and an ~12,5$ exchangerate for gpu's

...and something like under 20million diff at 12,5$ for fpgas.

I would love to know what they are running.

773  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cooling mining rig with winter temperatures on: September 26, 2012, 02:28:35 PM
Thanks for the tip! now I went to the WebSite and I didn't see support for 7970... do I have to install the drivers separately?

BAMT's massive thread has the info you need (guesstimated at the last 15 or so pages) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=65915.0
The next release which is in a closed beta testin phase atm will have 7970 support.
774  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL Requests Input on: September 25, 2012, 11:04:12 AM
I personally would like to see one long-term bitcoin developer in the people you fly over, for example jojkaart.

DrHaribo is one name I can think of, not a developer asfar as I know, but a dedicated pool op.

[edit] I realise I nominated two europeans, but are you really that tight on funds when it comes to your credibility ?
775  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Bitcoin Racing Syndicate on: September 25, 2012, 10:54:15 AM
Anyone considering investing should read http://www.humanesociety.org/issues/greyhound_racing/facts/greyhound_racing_facts.html , http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2006/jan/01/spain.animalwelfare and please do yourself a favor and google more.

I am not stating that the op is in any way abusing he's dogs, but I'll go asfar as stating that it is less than likeley that all of the dogs he's dogs race agains do or will live happy and long lives.
I own and race greyhounds, but there is no money involved, it's just a hobby. Whenever money gets involved the wrong sort of peole follow, which leads to dogs being abused and discarded.

Heres one of our Italian greyhounds, 9 years old the picture is 2 years old when he won a veteran championship.
776  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cooling mining rig with winter temperatures on: September 24, 2012, 08:12:43 PM
I live in Minnesota and as you might know winters can be pretty cold here.
I have a three season porch that we hardly use (especially in the winter) and I am thinking about moving my two rigs there to take advantage of the cold environment.
Are there any cons to do this? I'm not sure how consensation can be an issue, I read something about droplets forming inside the case. I have two Corsair 600T white that has the transparent window installes instead of the metal mesh.
Condensation only becomes a problem if your rig stops long enough to cool down to the ambient temperature. Heres my take and all my findings with my similiar project so far: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=76008.0

777  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1200 GH/s] BitMinter.com [Zero Fee, Hopper Safe,Merged Mining,Tx Fees Paid Out] on: September 24, 2012, 07:43:41 PM
I got a suggestion from PsychoticBoy to change the N in PPLNS from 2x difficulty to 4x difficulty. That would be to double the size of the shifts. Please speak up if you have an opinion on it.

Currently 10 shifts take about 5 hours. Doubling shift size would mean 10 shifts take 10 hours at the current pool hashrate. This would mean it takes longer before a proof of work is fully paid, but also that the variance for a proof of work goes down. 24/7 miners shouldn't notice much, but those who don't mine 24/7 should experience reduced variance.

In other news the testing on port 9000 helped uncover a bottleneck that has now been fixed. A big thanks to all who are mining there to help with testing. The test is still running. I'll try and finish up what will hopefully be the next production version of the mining backend, let it run on the test port for a bit, then bring it over on the regular port.

My hashrate votes no on this, simply because I cannot see the benefit, where as taking a quick look at my hashrate during the last 10 shifts now shows me quite accurateley when something is wrong with one of my four workers.
778  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: "Avalon" ASIC, announcement & pre-order start. VERY important notice updated on: September 24, 2012, 01:54:14 PM
How does any of what you've said address the problem of this being an oversubscribed lottery, where the wealthy and fortunate get preferential treatment? How will it stop people who already have 50, ordering another 50?

Can you stop? Bitcoin will not solve your problems. Nor will losing (most probably) money on ASIC.

So? What's your point?

World is bad and everything is against me?

welcome ot the way the world works. bitcoin is a currency, not a commune. the security is distributed, not the wealth.

There is a chanse that this product will be the first available asic, giving a single entity the controll of 2,6 or more TH/s in the first wave shipping out is irresponsible in that case.
779  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: "Avalon" ASIC, announcement & pre-order start. VERY important notice updated on: September 23, 2012, 07:52:50 AM
Unable to order here too, I would like you to hold one for me untill the issue is resolved.
780  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BAMT version 0.5 - Easy USB based mining Linux with farm wide management tools on: September 19, 2012, 06:43:08 PM
My rock-solid 5-gpu rig has during the last four days developed an issue and I dont have a clue as to what is causing it or what I should check next. At random intervals I find the rig idling, no mining going on, a simple restart mining does not resolve the issue, whereas a powerdown or coldreboot does. The main pool is up (I've even had the pool op check logs for anythig unusual... nothing there), the two backup pools are up, there has been no interruption in the network connection.

Miner: Phoenix
Bamt version: fully patched 0.5

Other thing's I've checked: the flashdrive running bamt is not full.

Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

[edit]
The only variable that has (somewhat) changed during the period this issue appeared I can think of is that the rig is getting cooler air as it is outdoors and it's fall here.
