Hello 42 ers!

By my back of the envelope calculations there are some 26 or so 42coins in the wild.  Is this pretty accurate?  The "coincap"  sites always seem to get it wrong.

Also, I am disappointed to see nothing in the code that puts a cap on the number of coins at 42.  The getBlockValue() in main.cpp never reduces, always staying at .000042 per block (apart from the superblocks which do basically nothing).  This means there is no cap on supply.

How will Unobtanium market react to this possible BTC price drop over the short term?  I make monthly UNO buys and would welcome a cheaper BTC to buy UNO.  The question is - will UNO supply and demand dynamics cause a drop in UNO price along with BTC?  We've all seen what upticks in demand do to the UNO trade.  I'm content to steadily buy and hold, I mean hodl.

guess what there is no straight answer (else we'd all be rich)

BUT

bearish BTC tends to be reinvested in promising ALTs ... hello UNO!

BUT

bullish BTC tends to cause short investors to dump ALTs aka buy BTC

BUT

I can't even say "tends to" because ALTs are about 1year old, there no much data yet.

BUT

non-inflationary / rare / fair / and asset backed

that's going beat BTC anyday ... bear or bull BTC markets ...  I'll hodl me uno.

7648  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BTCtalkcoin [TALK] - Pure POS - Multipool Ready! - AirDrop Has Arrived on: October 28, 2014, 05:24:23 AM
@jwinterm

Starting from scratch deletes the value already invested [man hours, trade history, listings, forum postings, etc.]
here's an article is this line of thought https://altcoinherald.com/cryptocurrency-consolidation-necessary-ultimate-success/

The code is not perfect, yes, but I see no evidence that BCC is any weaker than 9/10 pure stakes listed and traded on bittrex or cryptsy.

We can correct the flaws of pure stakes down the road.  BCC can be used as a registry to allocate new and improved spinoffs.

If you hold BCC then you will get a similar share in the new asset.

Think PTS/Bitshares

BTW
Where's you're addie? I'll give you some BCC Smiley
7649  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BTCtalkcoin [TALK] - Pure POS - Multipool Ready! - AirDrop Has Arrived on: October 28, 2014, 12:35:15 AM
@jwinterm

I don't disagree that the algo is in need of some adjustment.  A hardfork maybe in order sometime down the road.

But the QT works just as good as most of the top10 pure stakes coins.

So why toss the baby with the bath water?

There is potential in BCC still yet!  Smiley
7650  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BTCtalkcoin [TALK] - Pure POS - Multipool Ready! - AirDrop Has Arrived on: October 27, 2014, 02:37:51 PM
BitcoinNational, why are you buying up this crappy coin with a checkered past? I seem to remember quite a bit of the premine went missing, so only a fraction went out with airdrop, and then there was incorrectly implemented proof-of-stake so that the staking yield was much higher than reported, and I think the max number of coins was also misleading. It's just a complete cluster. If you want BTCtalkcoin, why not just start a new one with an actual fair launch, and maybe that isn't 100% PoS?

1.  BCC works ... it is a functioning QT and minting.
2.  Mass distribution to the Crypto inner core (early adopters).
3.  There is no bitcointalk.org coin in the clear ... both BCT and BCC are stuck, one is POW the other is stake.  I pick stake.
4.  Yes it was a fubbar launch, but it produced a working stakes coin early in the game.  Thats better than par.  Most coins had checkered past.
5.  BCC can be applied to other concepts beyond bitcointalk.org

example
Quote
The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is a multinational investment banking firm that engages in global investment banking, securities, investment management, and other financial services primarily with institutional clients.

"Group, Inc." thats the intention ... bitcointalk.org is the base camp of tomorrows banking industry ... GROUP ... that means anyone ready this ... you're on the cutting edge of tomorrow's Goldman Sachs.  BCC pays you to play Smiley

Quote
max number of coins was also misleading
How so?
getinfo >> "moneysupply" : 63080332.63962100

Quote
Algorithm: POW+POS (Scrypt)
Maximum BCC: 63,561,840
Block Time: 60 seconds
Block Reward: Pure POS now!
Difficulty Retarget: Every 10 blocks
POS: 15% (Stake Age - Min: 1 day, Max 180 days)
Airdrop: 49%
IPO: 0.5%
Premine: 0.5%
the OP specs

a benchmark
XXXCoin coins=50Million
ANN Thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=712912.0

XXX sells for 80satos ... but way more fubar launch plus code is sheeeet full of major bugs and the network broken.

BCC sold for 180satos then crashed below 10satos.

BOTTOM LINE
____________________________

BCC is still functions as a P2P network despite no exchange listing.  It is github'd.  And requires no POW expenses.  Stakes are here to stay, their value is on the rise and the first round of pure PO$ will lead the way.  Therefore BCC can hold a spot on the top50.  But it requires some community (re)organization.

7652  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SPUDS] PotatoCoin: 100% backed by real potatoes on: October 27, 2014, 01:49:48 PM
After some brainstorming among the development team, we have decided to increase the premine to 50% to ensure farmer control of the cryptocurrency. We will distribute these coins over a number of years in various countries, as opposed to all at once in Kenya.

this is brilliant!

1.  Where ever potato farmers are in most need + ability to 'linkup' then they can get potato chips?

2.  Slow distro, prove it works, document it case by case, get a well tested program of organizing local farmer groups/markets/local area coordinator. etc.  Why not start with a potato farmer nearest to us?  Swap them real potatoes for crypto potatoes, then in the spring they sell the cryptos to fund growning the next crop.

3.  basic crypto dev 101 stuff ... working code, active exchanges, growing community.

4. the international potato bank - spuds on deposit everywhere on planet Earth - "We'll Feed the World" (long term)

I would suggest you prove this a real deal.  There are ways to 'verify'.

And last the premine needs to be held by multi sig.

Still interested.

1.  Is there a SPUDS charity committee?
2.  Who holds the pre-mine?  addie?

7654  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [NAUT] Nautiluscoin - First Coin w/Stabilization Fund - Digishield on: October 27, 2014, 01:33:38 PM
so this was all tied with the book release.

yeah, might just be a perfect storm, but some clue-ing in by BK would have be best for confidence.

Now to be alarming ... the network hash rate is suicidally low.  Will POS arrive in time to save us all?

Welcome, Spuushie. [I have come to delight in the range of names that Krypto Hoomernz have!]

The Blue Crypto Award funds: the sound you hear is me grinding my teeth. If tomorrow's attempt fails, I will return the Uno as soon as I get home, and we shall devise a new strategy.

[What if . . . what if  . . these guys accepted those -- whatchamacallit? -- 'cryptpgraphic currencies? Apparently, you can just send money anywhere in the world, and for almost no fee. Could some one find out about these things?]

mark

Where in the world does it need to go?

Maybe we can get the winner (Ocean Array guy) to accept the UNO direct or have it held in trust until payment can be facilitated.
(suggest this because UNO is going up and the longer the winner waits to cashin the more 'Benefits' he will have.)
