781  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] The Unofficial Primecoin Overview Thread (all information in one place!) on: July 31, 2013, 12:04:42 AM
Some updates:
jhPrimeminer updated to v.035 (original had bug)
Added another GPU Miner thread (a working alpha, though not working well!)
A second blockchain explorer
Updated fees on the exchanges
XPM Prices crashing, world ending!
782  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: Pick your favorite Alt-Coin! on: July 30, 2013, 11:59:59 PM
It seems like the big four are currently (in order of votes):
1 Litecoin
2 Primecoin
3 Digicoin
4 Novacoin

Then there are those deserving of honorable mention (in order of votes):
5 Cosmoscoin
6 YACoin
7 Goldcoin
8 PPCoin
9 Feathercoin
10 Quarkcoin &  Namecoin (tied)

I am surprised by these results so far.  First, I never even heard of Digicoin before this vote and it #3 on the list!  I'll need to look into it.  Also, Primecoin is really close to Litecoin in terms of popularity being a relatively new coin.  It also has a lot of threads for it in this forum (I myself was getting confused and made an aggregate thread for the coin at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=264115.0

Other new coins that are surprisingly high on the list are Cosmocoin, Goldcoin and Quarkcoin.

[...] so IMHO it's not worth the electricity to mine at this point.
...that's why I turned of my dual HD5850 Bitcoin miner in June 2011 - it was simply not worth investing the electricity for the lousy 0.8 BTC (per day) I could earn by pooled mining these days...
This time I'm going to make other mistakes Wink

When cost to mine>cost to buy, you're better off using cash to purchase it on the market.

It's still far too difficult to get cash into the ecosystem. At least for Americans.

I can use mtgoz, but that incurs wire transfer fees

I can use virwox, but you get hit with many 2.5% commissions (I think there a fee to make initial deposit, another to sell dollars and buy lindens, another to sell lindens and buy BTC, and yet another to withdraw those BTC.

I can use campbx, but I have to wait 30 days before dwolla will let them let me withdraw those btcs.

Or I can use local bitcoins. But everyone there seems to charge 10-20% more than the mtgox price.

That's why people mine even when mining costs more than just buying the coins.
Not true about CampBX.  It only 30 days from when you first deposit funds - after those first 30 days, the account is verified and no longer any delays.  The only delay is funding Dwolla (sending from Dwolla to  CampBX is instant). CampBX is great for smaller purchases, their fee 0.55%  - the only problem with them is lack of liquidity. Still always cheaper than both Mt. Gox and Coinbase.
784  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: Pick your favorite Alt-Coin! on: July 30, 2013, 09:46:12 PM
It like a horse race - with Litecoin now in the lead, but Primecoin only a little behind.  Digicoin seems to be a solid 3rd place.
785  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The NEW Cloudcoin GIVEAWAY - COME AND MINE 50MH/s extra bounty on: July 30, 2013, 09:43:25 PM
Does anyone else get the VERY STRONG FEELING, 95% of the replies on this thread are new bitcointalk account alts of the OP trying to trick people into thinking he has a legitimate coin others are using?

The mumus version gives me 29000 PPS on ONE of my cpus alone. That is greater than the total of all 4 of my CPUs with HP8. Is this correct??

PPS does not reflect your ability to find a block. At all.
Thus, the huge increase in pps sounds a tad fishy.

And anyway, it increased for everyone in the pool.
You went x10, but all your co-miners too, so...  Cheesy
This is a good point. I also think it is fishy that it shows 10x the PPS. In fact, the actual payout to me in the pool stayed the same, despite the hugely increased PPS & shares. It doesn't seem to really have boosted my results. I don't understand how I can have more shares and pps and not more XPM payout though... What's going on here?
I am earning xpm much faster though in ypool with mumus.  Better than the official build
787  Economy / Gambling / Re: PrimeDice.com | The New Way to Roll | Lowest House Edge (1%) | Instant Deposits on: July 30, 2013, 05:51:43 AM
Last I checked the J-D max bet is 382 BTC with almost 38200 BTC Bankroll.  Are your pockets that deep?

That's "max profit per roll", not "max bet".  You don't really need to have 38k BTC to offer 382 profit per bet so long as you don't mind a higher risk of ruin.
That is correct, I should have been more clear.  J-D risks up to 1% of the total Bankroll per roll. That is the most profitable precentage per the Kelley criteria I believe.
788  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Primecoin Record Books on: July 30, 2013, 04:52:52 AM
Now listprimerecords shows an 'ismine' field which indicates whether you are the miner of it.
It would be included in v0.1.2 release build soon!
Are you going to improve mining efficiency at all in the next release build?

I just received an email from someone telling me they bought a new phone and so lost access to google auth, and so can't log in.

They want me to reset their google auth so they can log in again.

This seems wrong to me.  If I reset google auth on demand, what's the point of even offering it?

So please, make sure you have a backup of your google auth secret, in case you ever buy a new phone and so lose access.  If you already have google auth enabled on your account but don't have a backup of the secret, please PM me and I'll temporarily disable it so you can make a backup.
Seems like a good solution would be to have them send you a verified message from a bitcoin address where they had previous sent a large deposit.  If they have an email registered with the account, sending an email from that account would seem like another good idea to verify identity.

Does pirate from the JD chat go by any other name?

I don't know, but he's not made himself known in the JD chat for several weeks now.  The pirateat40 whose name he copied is the only one anyone will think of when you mention the name.
Basically it is like saying Dooglus is as trustyworthy as Bernie Madoff.

There is now a fixed official v0.35 out, though I will stick with mumus for now.  PPS is not everything and mumus takes a while to experiment and find the best settings for your cpu.  The value of the shares produces is the most important thing, not the quantity.

mechs: is the 0.34beta version of jhprimeminer now as fast as HP8 now that jhprimeminer has those algorithm changes?
I would say yes, though the mumus version would seem to be faster than HP8 or v0.34

Just added links to two optimized hacked versions of jhPrimemienr by cabin and mumu.
796  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: Pick your favorite Alt-Coin! on: July 29, 2013, 08:38:47 PM
Not liking the poll because your coin is not winning is not a reason to say it is invalid.  Sour grapes.  I am finding the poll results quite interesting.  For one, I expected Litecoin to have a significant lead on all the other coins which it does not.

Thanks for the info.

Will mining with the HP8 (high performance) client work in pools? I just see the notation that it is preferred for solo mining.

If it will work for pools, is it better than jhprimeminer?
The issue is currently there is only 1 primecoin miner pool and that is ypool.net.  hp8 can be used to pool mine if you had a pool to point it at. However, that would require a pool with either getwork or Stratum support.  Currently, ypool.net supports only pushthrough and therefore you can only use the jhPrimeminer with it.  On the bright side, the latest version came out today of jhprimeminer v0.34 beta and includes all the hp8 algorithm changes.

What is PD Pro going to be?

A completely new dice experience coming soon! Can't share any details yet, will be out soon enough.
Is this in response to Just-Dice competition?

The initial plans for a redesign came to fruition before j-d launched. Quite frankly I wasn't 100% satisfied with our initial final website, it was lacking in many features which should be core to any gambling site. We've broken down our upgrades into a "tick-tock" model, new PrimeDice will come out and we will phase out the old PrimeDice as PD1 is not nearly as great in any regard. Within the coming weeks after that we'll be working in small new features, within a month hopefully an additional big feature. Our aim right now is to complete a small amount of back-end work that needs to be done, put on final touches and test.

We want to put more emphasis on testing this time around as PD1 was initially mired by major issues which hampered the experiences for our bettors such as the slow roll speeds people experienced on and off for the first few weeks. I want to say that we will launch this within a week, it is easily possible but I want to ensure that it is perfect. That being said it will launch when it meets our standards. We're also looking to give more back to the community which we had initially intended, there will be a variety of giveaways/competitions for both gamblers and non-gamblers in the coming months. One of the ways we want to do this is by bringing back our btc bonuses through some sort of faucet specific to each account that can't be abused by bots. Can't promise that this will be present in the first iteration.

Going back to your question though, we're hoping to keep pushing and raise the bar. Dooglus has done an incredible job especially when you take into account that j-d has only been around a bit over a month and the fact that he's more or less a one man team not counting his investors. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if j-d encouraged SD to sell so unexpectedly, can only speculate there.

That being said we're looking to hit the ground running and keep up the pace. The online gambling market, bitcoin or fiat, is a very young industry and the opportunity for individuals to have significant autonomy in defining it will not last and thus we're going to work our hardest to achieve this. I see bitcoins becoming massive within the coming years and we're looking to solidify a position as one of the top bitcoin gambling sites before the market becomes saturated.

Edit: Unrelated but if anyone is highly skilled in php please shoot me a PM, we're looking for an addition to our dev team for other projects, Jquery is a plus.

Any thoughts about copying the "be the bank" model J-D has used to great success?  It is the big bankroll at J-D which attracts the whales due to the large max bets.  Something which would be tough to compete with otherwise.

This is an unfair world
please disable GPU mining

I don't think GPU mining has started yet.  I am not even sure if once started, it will necessarily be more efficient than a high-end over clocked cpu
