781  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: August 08, 2017, 08:00:57 PM
Why I should avoid ATX psu's?

ATX PSU's are designed for home / office computers, meaning they are not the most suitable for 24/7 operations like a server does. They could run 24/7, but will die much faster (i.e. in a year or two) than what they usually are advertised, i.e. 10 years warranty, etc.
Totally false. I have been doing this since 2013. I have never had a properly maintained quality ATX PSU die on me. I have run probably close to three dozen of them of various brands and makes and if you buy quality and do not run them at 100% capacity you will not have any problems!

Let's take this one step further. I have several ATX PSUs from Corsair, running since 2014 at 130% of rated capacity and they are STILL going strong!
782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Confiscated silk road bitcoin being spent on: August 08, 2017, 07:54:58 PM
Maybe the FBI decided to sell those coins or just redistribute them into the network somehow.
Thank you for the best laugh I have had in a while. This is quite funny. Do you really think the FBI would simply send out BTC to "generously" fund other accounts? Noooo way. The US Government does not work like this. It is a seized asset and they will sell if for the maximum amount of profit that they can get when the time comes. They will seize anything they can via an ever increasingly terrifying "legal" means that they can cook up with and hide behind the guise of preventing "terrorism" and the like.
783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you invest your 401k or IRA into Bitcoin? on: August 08, 2017, 03:33:06 PM
Already done. Took a large loan against my 401k to build my mining mini-farm several months ago. No matter what happens now I am good. Crypto is the future. My 401k managed by some firm who are paid no matter if they win or lose is not the way to retirement or financial freedom for me. I will be riding this train for the next 5-10 years which after that, hopefully the train will no longer even be needed!  Grin
784  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Bittrex Unverified User - Be Careful ! 0.025 BTC Withdrawal Limit without Warnin on: August 08, 2017, 03:27:12 PM
i suppose it is a KYC/AML thing which they set based on USD value of your withdrawal not a fixed amount of bitcoin. that is why it has changed without notice.

checking my account it says i am limited to 1337 (haha leet) amount of daily bitcoin withdrawal. and it was 2000 bitcoin before.
Mine says this as well however I still have a basic account it says. I have had this account open for over 3 years - is your account nearly this old as well? I am confused by the limit. I move a decently large amount out over the past several days and I had no trouble at all - depositing a BTC was rather slow but it showed up without any additional problems.. I wonder if the feds are cracking down again.. glad I am moving to more cold storage.

My account is same age, i never did any verification and my withdrawal limit is also 1337. My account type just says Legacy, so maybe you did the basic verification and still have Legacy withdrawal limit?
That has got to be it - I dug around but did not feel like putting too much effort into it. I am happy I can use my account as normal but would not be surprised if things force me to verify other details in the near future. I love how the government does not treat crypto as a currency, yet will enforce restraints on it just like it is. Gotta love how they can just do whatever they want and not follow their own damn rules.  Roll Eyes
785  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fifth alt coin thread last four got too big. on: August 08, 2017, 03:23:55 PM
Hot damn SIGT is on fire recently and I did not even notice! Thanks for pointing it out again. Wish I had not dumped my 9k coins back when I was first mining it! Guess I should not have stopped! Oh well, live and learn. I turned that mined DGB into more NEO/OMG and it has been really good to me so I guess in the end it is a wash anyway. My big mistake was turning some SIGT into UBQ a few weeks ago - no idea why I did that  Huh

I bought NEO early at 7$ (thanks to SIGT mining and the mini NVIDIA farm)..... steady dear heart... steady  Grin

I had a small bag of NEO early on - averaged up and I'm basically at break even currently - this is one I will be holding for a longer time.

Same with OMG.. I will be holding for quite a while on this puppy.

SIGT really I do not get the hype around it. Yayyy "new algo" - just another thing chained together like others.. I do not see why this has exploded at all. Maybe it is just the jaded cynic in me.

787  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kraken - Deposits on hold (Possible warning?) on: August 08, 2017, 02:43:45 PM
Most likely it is just an issue with their banking provider or the registration system that adds them to your accounts. Fiat is getting harder and harder to work with for Crypto Exchanges and I would not be surprised at all if this is just yet another bank issue. Coinbase is really the only place I would attempt a Fiat deposit/withdrawal - other than that I would not trust anyone to do it right. ACH bank transfer is usually 2-4 days anyway.

789  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why buy altcoins or invest into ICOS if 99.9% are scams? on: August 08, 2017, 02:15:17 PM
It is easy. If it looks, smells, and seems to good to be true - it probably is! Do your research. And then do more. There are some reallllyyy good projects out there. There are even more scammers though. Do not risk more than you are willing to lose (basic investing advice) and if you do decided to do a large position in an upcoming project, make sure you know where your targets are! I got pretty lucky with my ETH investment last year.. I do not expect to get that lucky again!
790  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BCC going for another diff adjustment, gonna be more profitable to mine on: August 08, 2017, 01:58:58 PM
I am pretty sure where I saw that a pool was purposefully harming BCC by switching over to mining the BCC network once the diff had adjusted down to a reasonable level, mining there until their hashrate pushed up the BCC difficulty to much higher than it was before, then switching back to mining BTC once that was done. I guess it could be that they think BCC will be profitable or worth it - but I highly doubt it. There just seems to be so much hate against it.
791  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Antshares/ NEO [ANS] on: August 08, 2017, 01:48:22 PM
NEO consilidating now around .0055. All time high yesterday on .0067. Good time to grab some more before third wave is comming. Towards .0090?!

I hope I'm wrong but I think it will stagnate for a while around 0.0045. That's around the support line right now, but if it falls below that, it could drop down to around 0.0030. Now, if the new branding can attract new large investors, 0.009 is definitely possible. In the long haul (5-10 yrs) I can see NEO rival ETH's value at 500-1000$, but that's all speculation of course.

I doubt it's going to take 5-10 years. If it's picked up by China which it should, expect huge changes very fast.
Once this hits the Chinese exchanges I would expect a huge double digit pump within a short amount of time. With how ambitious this project is and with its specific targeting of Asia I would say a conservative target is $20 in the very near future and probably $50 by end of the year. That is a market cap of only $2.5B - I would say that is totally possible and reasonable - that is right around what litecoin is currently.
792  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Selling ETH, will buy other altcoins, please recommend on: August 08, 2017, 01:33:32 PM
I can't give you 7 coins advice because I don't think there's 7 promising coins in the market now. You already have WAVES so we pass that. If you don't want to invest ICO's and buy tokens from the market I suggest you new Bittrex coins such as LUNYR, TRST, GUP, BNT.
I still think you should hold some ETH for new ICO's though. I made very good profit for Status ICO for example.
Err have you looked around at the alts recently? Sure there are a lot of shitcoins but there are also a lot of really good projects out there that even if they only achieve 50% of what they are hoping to do they will be huge successes. Just how much have you looked around?! The above lists contain some of the most exciting things I have seen in my 4 years in the cryptocurrency scene, just why don't you think they are good?
793  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-08] Dear Bitcoin: I’m Sorry, Fees Will Rise on: August 08, 2017, 01:13:27 PM
I still do not understand this blocksize war. I have seen the posts of our Saint himself and he even said that the 1MB blocksize was a temporary measure and that 2/4/8MB would be used in the future. That was 7 years ago. Why the heck is there all this trouble simply moving to a 2MB blocksize? Is it all really simply due to the blockchain increase? Who cares?! Full nodes can run 8TB+ drives for a trivial amount of USD these days and checkpointing/snapshotting the blockchain is a completely viable thing..

If I am wrong please point me to reading that directly disproves these things..
794  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: when bitcoin goes up most altcoin prices down why? on: August 08, 2017, 01:06:55 PM
This used to be very much so the case, but with the injection of USDT in the market things are even more complicated now.

We used to just have alts -> BTC exchange rate (IE ETH/BTC)

But now a lot of markets can have two pairs (IE ETH/BTC ETC/USDT)

What this does is that people who are trading for USDT see one thing and possibly more stable (IE USDT price remains the same because nobody thinks the coin is going down)
This also triggers other traders who are only looking at BTC (IE ETH/BTC is dropping due to BTC increasing and ETH/USDT staying the same, this leads to people either dumping or buying ETH/BTC which triggers buys in ETH/USDT)

Yeah it's crazy.
795  Other / Meta / Re: isoneguy SHOULD BE BANNED! on: August 08, 2017, 12:48:07 PM
Personally I agree, this guy is such a massive troll and it adds nothing to the "community" "board" "scene" - whatever you want to call this place. We remove spam, we remove garbage, this is the same. Why is it allowed? It reflects badly on the site and on the crypto scene. Why does eBay and PayPal have such a bad rap? Because their companies are snakes and the places are full of scammers and they are supported by the websites. Does bitcointalk want to become synonymous with eBay/PayPal? I sure hope not.
796  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: | NEO Smart Economy | Official Thread |⚡Updated: Interview With DA Hongfei⚡ on: August 08, 2017, 12:43:19 PM
What happens to NEO? price at ~15-16 USD or even lower to 10?
There is big news around this coin currently. This means that the bigger sellers will sell. There is a saying buy on hype/rumor, sell on news. Up until now there has been a lot of hyper/rumor around NEO and the price has steadily risen. Now that there is new/release/announcements the bigger sellers are taking profit and selling - but notice that bounce off the 0.0045 line for a nice double bottom. I think we have seen the end of the dump and we'll move up for a while now.
797  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Jaxx sucks. Any other nice wallet to recommend? on: August 08, 2017, 12:21:21 PM
Aparently Jaxx is not happy with me directing my mining payouts to it.
Do you guys know a desktop better wallet that can handle ETC and ETH?
Thanks in advance!
R
I mean they even say when you use to to NOT send your mining payments to it, why are you surprised? However I set my payments to 1 ETH and lately 0.5 ETH and the wallet does not have any trouble with working with these numbers. Jaxx is fast, lightweight, and supports quite a lot of coins, it is a pretty nice wallet overall for the price you paid for it Tongue

If you really want to switch, move to MyEtherWallet.
798  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Altpocket.io - Altcoin Portfolio [Investments from Polo/Bittrex] (Free tool) on: August 07, 2017, 08:47:47 PM
I am unable to login today.. is the site down?

I work's fine for me, and you are the first one to report this issue.

Please check your username and password.

I log in fine, but when I do I get a "Whoops, looks like something went wrong." with a red banner at the top..

Aha okey that's a bug, is it on every page or just the investment page? please send me your username and I will take a look at it.
I can't get anywhere - I get it straight after I log in. I think the username is soothaa
Still cannot login - any chance of getting this fixed or should I just scrap this account and start over?
799  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Awesome Miner]- Powerful Windows GUI to manage and monitor up to 5000 miners on: August 07, 2017, 06:39:06 PM
Is it possible for me to access Awesome Miner (read and/or write) from another C# application? I was building a few tools in visual studio and was hoping to exchange some data to/from Awesome Miner but am at a loss on how to do it. I realized that the integrated scripting is locked beyond another version but even with that it probably will not be able to do what I am wanting, so I would love to get it integrated into my projects somehow..
800  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bittrex Account Hacked - 2FA was active on: August 07, 2017, 06:20:27 PM
There is something I don't get in the original post. For outgoing transfers, we get an email verification with a link to click to confirm the transaction. Without this process, it's not possible. So how would it be possible without getting access to your own email.
Bittrex usually answer to support ticket in 24 hours average but tracking the IP is worthless because only an idiot village  would use his original IP without masking it
You do? Mine does not function like this at Bittrex - it does for a few other exchanges but not for Bittrex.. I should probably cruise through my settings pages and see if I can enable that. If not it should really be mandatory on the site.. kind of like a 3FA if you will.

I've been pulling my longer term holdings off of all exchanges, I get realllyyy nervous when I see a balance in an exchange over a few thousand $$$.
