How does anyone know you won't just claim the account stolen and take it back?

I'd give you $20 for one.
83  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 2011 & 2013 1 BTC Casascius coins on: August 26, 2014, 03:00:06 PM
Hello  Grin

Has the 6 been sold SgtSpike?
Hi funk!  The MS66 coin?  No it has not been sold...!

I don't know why I typed that, I meant "2011 ERR 1 BTC graded MS64 - 4 BTC"
Oh ok - nope, it seems that sale fell through (it was a trade that never happened and the other party stopped responding).  It is back up for sale though.

85  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google also gives result like DuckDuckGo on: August 19, 2014, 08:30:18 PM
Just noticed that google also gives result on searching for a public key.
Last week they did not.

Probably because DuckDuckGo implemented this feature and google did not want to lose the first movers (I was about to make DuckDuckGo my default searchengine)

Google is not showing balance yet, but I think that's just a matter of time.
Can you screenshot what you mean?  I just get 4 normal webpages when searching google for "155rm2uws1YnkSrcJuBuBfWJ6kYUbhxNKw", nothing extra that Google has programmed in.
86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's add up the KNOWN lost bitcoins on: August 19, 2014, 05:32:09 PM
It doesn't look like the OP has been watching his own thread. He still has 0BTC total lost. I luckily haven't lost any coins yet. Redundancy.
I'm still watching it.  I'm just too lazy to add it all up and everyone has stopped using the format I specified at the beginning of the thread to keep a running total.
87  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] BITCOIN.GURU domain on: August 09, 2014, 04:27:02 AM
Wouldn't the bitcoin foundation be able to claim this domain as theirs?
Bitcoin isn't trademark-able in the US, so no.

Can you please provide a source? Thanks
It's not an enforceable trademark because there is no way to talk about bitcoin without using the word bitcoin.  It's a generic term to describe what it is, thus it is not trademarkable.  Tibanne holds a trademark in Japan, but even that one is questionable as far as whether it would hold up in court.  Here's a lawyer to back up what I am saying though:  http://www.coindesk.com/mt-gox-sell-bitcoin-trademark-buyer-enforce/

89  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] 20$ = Starbucks eGift Card $100 on: August 08, 2014, 03:16:36 PM
OK, he/she used GMAIL instead of HOTMAIL.  Anyway, will take a $20 gamble.  I'm still way ahead of the game overall.  Seller will be sending codes first.  If they go into my account that is a good start but of course doesn't mean they will still be good a week or 2 from now. Gonna drink a lot of frapps FAST! Will update.

I can provide free escrow, there's no need to put either of you at risk.

Thank you very much. Appreciated,  I'm not worried about getting codes that don't work, I'm worried that they will still be good 2-3 weeks from now. Smiley  That's the gamble I have to take buying something so absurdly cheap that obviously ORIGINATED from a questionable source. No reflection on SELLER but on the source seller obtains them from.  There are just way too many of these going around.

Don't think Escrow won't help with that.  Smiley   Seller says s/he will send codes first and I told seller that I will update here.  Doesn't matter to me.  If seller wants escrow I have no problem but it's only 20 bucks.
Use the gift card to buy a new gift card online and have it shipped to your house.

91  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Zionist shills on reddit on: August 04, 2014, 03:10:32 PM
Seems to me that what is occuring is that (land issues aside) Israel are attempting to break the spirit of the people of Gaza - and what Hamas is doing, in a pitiful and emasculated kind of way, is saying that their spirit will not be broken.
How can you say something like this when it is always Hamas who is keeping the war going?  If Hamas stopped attacking, the war would be over.  Israel is only attacking in retaliation.  Hamas has had plenty of chances for peace, and they always choose NOT to have it.
92  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Zionist shills on reddit on: August 01, 2014, 05:35:36 PM
They are everywhere at the moment.
It's hard to tell who is a shill and who just believes they have a right to do whatever they want.
If you look at any Isreali media it's shocking the stuff they're saying.
It would be a challange to raise a child there that didn't believe one Israeli life was worth a thousand arab lives.

I'd just like to know what the pay rates are.  Both, all sides, etc.

Don't understand what your saying, if it's that the same goes on on the other side, yeah I get that.

Well when Hamas sends in suicide bombers 1 hour after a cease fire starts, it's kind of hard to be terribly sympathetic with them.

The war would be over if Hamas put down its weapons.

When did this happen?
It happened today.  Two Israelis killed, one more captured.  I heard it was a suicide bomber that killed the two, but it looks like that part is unconfirmed.  It happened 1.5 hours after the cease fire was put into effect.

IPv6 can be spoofed, just the same as IPv4 can be spoofed.  There's nothing stopping anyone with a computer from sending out a packet that says "hi, I'm from IP 123.456.789.123" (I know IPv6 is different format, but you get the point).
95  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When Buying Groceries...would you use BTC, GOOG or USD...? on: July 31, 2014, 03:17:35 PM
The total output volume chart down-trending is especially troubling: https://blockchain.info/charts/output-volume

Also interesting about this, beyond what D&T has already mentioned is that this volume seems to have at least some correlation with the price over the same period of time.  http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/bitstampUSD#rg360ztgSzm1g10zm2g25zv

In other words, as Bitcoin appreciates, people are more likely to spend it.
96  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just asked leanpub if they accepted bitcoins, this is what I got... on: July 29, 2014, 11:18:18 PM
You guys are so naive.  A company that solely uses paypal isn't going to spend the money to hire a web developer to integrate purchasing for Bitcoin to save pennies on a couple of transactions that might happen within the next year when they've only heard about it from one or two people and scam fallout on the news.

There are only a few reasons a company would accept Bitcoin right now:
- It aligns with their philosophy (they like Bitcoin and want to see it succeed)
- It actually can give them significant savings because of the volume of transactions they process (see Dell, Overstock, Newegg, etc)
- It is inexpensive or free for them to integrate (if it can be done with the change of a setting instead of hiring a web developer)

Don't expect some random joe-blow small business to write off paypal just because one dude on the internet asked them to take bitcoin instead.
97  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When Buying Groceries...would you use BTC, GOOG or USD...? on: July 29, 2014, 10:59:03 PM
If GOOG was appreciating as much as Bitcoin every year and you could buy things with it, why would you hold fiat?

If you convert every paycheck to bitcoins then that money appreciates before you spend it.

If you do not convert every paycheck then that fiat just loses value until you spend it.

Precisely...by this line of reasoning then, is this perhaps why people seem to be hoarding, rather than spending BTC?

Once fiat is converted to BTC the value of your money appreciates, so why would you spend it?

Why do you currently spend your paycheck of anything instead of converting it all to appreciating assets?

I convert a portion of my paycheck into bitcoin and then I spend a portion of that when the merchant accepts Bitcoins.  If I didn't then I would need to convert less of my paycheck into Bitcoin so I had enough "cash" to pay the merchant.   The advantage is that the time between when I receive pay and I spend it (even for the portion I spend) I benefit from appreciation instead of purchasing power depreciation.  I have also found I makes me take a closer look at the purchase. Spending Bitcoin seems a lot more "real" then entering a CC number.

So the flip side of your question would be why do people have "cash" for more than immediate spending needs?  There are trillions of dollars in "cash" (both physical and demand accounts) just seeing their purchasing power decline.

This is helpful.  Very much agreed on how "real" it feels to spend BTC relative to $...and I'd say part of the reason for this is BTC appreciative nature.  The idea of increased purchasing power has obvious merit, despite the significant increased and inherent current market risks (short-term BTC price decline relative to widely accepted fiat vendor benchmarks).  Immediate spending needs however (like groceries), would still lend themselves to using depreciating fiat then...unless inflation became unbearable.  It would seem that for now at least, fiat should be used for more routine purchases and BTC should be held?

The ecosystem seems to be dictating this, despite the recent MIT report regarding NEW Bitcoins being more likely spent than hoarded, the transaction charts seem to be painting a very different picture regarding existing BTC.
You're still not getting it.  If BTC is GUARANTEED to appreciate compared to fiat, then why hold any fiat at all?  Assume a world where everything you could ever want to purchase is purchasable with Bitcoin.

Assuming Bitcoin appreciation, there is no reason to say that "fiat should be used for more routine purchases".  Why would you say that?  What makes fiat better for routine purposes than Bitcoin?  The fact that Bitcoin can appreciate, so you might be missing out on appreciation because you spent it?  Ok, so why not have all of your money in Bitcoin and just use it as needed?  Then, at least you can enjoy short-term appreciation until the Bitcoin is spent.

Putting all of that aside, the implied argument that you seem to be making is that people won't spend an appreciating currency.  That's easily proven false in two ways:

1)  Computers/technology.  People could wait until next year to get an even better, faster computer with more features for the same price.  Yet they buy computers today.  How can you explain that when their purchasing power is increasing over time?  Obviously, increasing purchasing power does not discourage people from buying pieces of technology.

2)  Investments/stocks.  Anyone can easily increase their purchasing power over time by investing into stocks, mutual funds, real estate, etc.  Yet, many choose not to.  How can you explain the fact that people are buying ANYTHING beyond what is absolutely necessary to survive when they could instead be increasing their purchasing power by investment?

The whole argument that people won't spend an appreciating currency sounds great on the surface, but is really just a complete fallacy.

If I have nothing else to spend, I'm going to spend Bitcoin.  If I have something else to spend.... why hasn't it been converted to Bitcoin already?

100  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why bitcoin stand still after some enterprise started accepting bitcoin? on: July 22, 2014, 11:10:14 PM
When ebay paypal takes bitcoin then my friends we going moons
This is when the game will change.  If Paypal starts transacting in Bitcoin, then they will also begin acting as an exchange.  People could change their balance from USD to BTC, or vice versa, with the click of a button.  If a merchant wants payment ONLY in BTC, then someone with a Paypal account could pay them from their paypal account (regardless of denomination of their current balance), and it wouldn't look any different than "Paid Merchant $20.00" to them, even though the merchant actually received Bitcoin.

As much hate as Paypal gets around here, they are the ones in a position to actually become a huge player in the Bitcoin payment gateway.
