This would be very scary.   Is your miners in a data center with other?  Or are you hosting at your house?

Anyways wish you best of luck stopping it.  If home I would see about locking down your router.   Start there for security.

I have them in my datacenter, directly attached to the internet for testing purposes. Of course it is an easy thing to put them behind a firewall, but this should not be possible... However, I reset them, changed the IPs, changed the ssh password and will put the behind a firewall as soon as I am back at the datacenter. Smiley

But it seems to be very easy to get hashpower from bitmain products without buying bitmain products...  Grin Grin

I rather wonder how they got my ips?  Huh

One might assume by the type of traffic, or it could be someone in the datacenter
82  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4+ Discussion and Support Thread on: June 02, 2015, 12:42:38 AM
btw: it would be great if it was possible to restrict ui access, I only want the miner to be accessible from one (or more) ips... would appreciate if bitmain tech could add this feature in a future firmware upgrade Smiley

Well, it happened! All of my S4+ (6 in total) have been hijacked...

I have different passwords for each device, and they are bulletproof... I've read some posts here and it seems that the developers of cgminer have reported that this will happend to bitmaintech but they didn't care... Even KNC Miner Neptune can restrict access to specific IPs... Seems like the only solution is to put the devices behind a firewall, which is a bit annoying, as the solution would be so easy!

Why can I not access the device by ssh and adjust cgminer api? It keeps telling me access denied (on all devices), altough password is correct for sure... Is there some kinda default user/password for ssh?

Thanks for your help

spending 15min looking at this I am going to assume datacenter, or like a college network, and I think I've figured out how to do this via the network. Its kind of scary the security gaps in bitmains gear

so without logging in I can send via the network /etc/init.d/cgminer restart  .........  sooo that stands to reason...

You could just scan your local network and see all the other bitmain gear then....set them to work for you.

anyone know if you can plug in a 3-pin fan into the S5 controller? i know it has 4 pin connector. but does the 3-pin fit? was gonna buy this delta fan.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835213005

44dba 120cfm

Why don't you get a 4 pin fan? And I don't think 120cfm is enough

I would agree get 4 pin and make your life easy.  No need to get 3 pin.

But here are some 4 pin fan's that Bitmain made a list for S4, but they should work with S5 I believe. - https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204199879-Antminer-S4-fan-specification-and-possible-replacement-fans

So the fan they put in the S4 is 56dba? not sure how that could be the same fan that is in the S5. since its about 78dba 3 feet away.

Sorry I guess I should have been more specific look at the higher RPM fan's there such as the Delta PFC1212DE or the Sanyo Denki SunAce 120 9GV1212P1J091.

I have one of the Sanyo Denki SunAce 120 9GV1212P1J091 they are not quiet if that is your goal.  But it does put out a lot of air with it's high RPM's. And is a tad cheaper then the deltas.  I'm sure deltas are better quality though.

I have similar Deltas  I think PFB1212UHE-F00 for 3 years now... I can tell you they are rock solid and run 24/7/365 in my Case in a push/push set up on my Corsair H100

new miner, my chains are 11 degrees apart in temp.

any solution to this? my other s5 is only 3-4 degrees apart.

think this might be my power supply cutting power. the other one just did the same thing after I moved cables around. gonna lower the frequency settings see if it helps stabilize it. my outlet is telling me i was using 1207 watts with both at the stock 350m. good thing i have a 1600w psu on the way

What brand/model is your new PSU?   It's not so much the watts in some cases but the quality of the PSU.

Sadly cheap PSU's can cause problems.

It is an evga supernova 1300. I have an evga supernova 1600w titanium rated psu arriving today. i have the miner that drops in hashrate underclocked to 325 and it appears to stabilize. at 350m one of the blades intermitently lowers in temp to about 30c and my total Hashrate goes down to 500-700gh. im not getting any errors though. so my thought is that it may not be getting enough power, whoch would explain the temp/hashrate decrease. Im not an electrical engineer so im just guessing...I put in a ticket with bitmain and they want me to take the damn thing apart. and redo the thermal paste.

It's not a bad idea if you know which blade is hotter I woould start with that one.   You might just fix it in only one breakdown.

Best news is you have their consent to do it so does not void your warranty.  And I'm sure they will help you out.  If this does not fix it they will give another good suggestion.

Sucks to go through troubleshooting, but they are a good team to work with.  If in China or US you can easily call them and talk to them about the problem.

The weird thing is the blade that is lower in temp is the one that drops in temp to 31c and is probably not hashing full speed. the other blade stays around 60c.

50 - 60 c is nothing out of ordinary on running temp.  With it being summer it's hotter in a lot of places aswell.

When it get's in 30's I would guess it is wrong unless very cold ambiant.  I would do the thermal paste on that blade first.  I'm hoping you can fix it with only one blade needing redone.

Ill do the thermal paste after i get my new power supply today. I want to make sure its not my power supply. Thanks for the info.

If its psu then its broken or something
my evga 1300 working great with 2 antminers s5. So i cant imagine yours cant handle one miner
(edit) i see u r running two antminers too.... so just try only with that nonworking so u will see if its psu or not
If its gonna work with one then maybe u r splitting cables wrong Tongue
that one with 2 pcies should go to 2 boards not only one so its like 1 and half cable for one board

I have one that started doing the same thing.  After much troubleshooting with Bitmain, we determined it was the controller.  Each board worked fine by themselves but when both were attached to the controller, board 2 would always stop hashing (showed very similar to your pictures except my hashrate was around 500).  Hooked both boards to a different controller and no more issues.  Hoping to get Bitmain to send me a new board without having to send in my old one first.  Want to keep hashing with at least one board if possible.

or bitmain could make longer data cables available so i could hook my second miners' blades upto the miner that is working fine. the one with issues is offline now. and isn't hashing. maybe the controller is messed up. data cables dont reach the other controller currently. are these data cables custom made by/for bitmain or could we source these cables from somewhere else? i prefer to use one controller with 4 board anyway because i wouldnt have to buy a network switch. i could just use the one network cable i have.

Those data cables are very standard and I am SURE you can order them from a electronics place, because I've done it for other things in the past.
87  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: OFFICIAL CGMINER mining software thread for linux/win/osx/mips/arm/r-pi 4.9.1 on: May 29, 2015, 05:03:09 PM
I have a BFL SC 25GH miner and in 4.9.1 when cgminer starts it states that there were no USB devices detected. Yet, when I run 4.9.0, the miner is detected and works fine. Is this a known issue with 4.9.1 or is there something that I may be missing?

Thanks!

One might assume it was removed from the support list of devices at the time of the new compile, do you have the ability to complie your own binary?
88  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: May 29, 2015, 04:58:01 PM
I'm trying to be patient, and it is wearing thin.  My miner was sent in for service, and received on the 18th of May.  I contacted them on the 19th and didn't hear back until the 20th.  After they confirmed they had my miner, they told me that parts were low and I would be receiving a replacement miner from China.

Well it's been 9 days, and nothing.  Two days ago I was told they were having some hard time with communications with China and they will get me a tracking number as soon as they here something.  Up until now, I have not had any problems with Bitmain, but this one is really difficult.  CAN I PLEASE GET A TRACKING NUMBER?

Mr. Cygnus,

Please be Patient with them. China right now is being what most technical users would call as colossal asshole, as they are poised to go to war with the Americas.

Bitmain will get you a new device sure I am sure of it.

Dogie... I got my Water Cooling Block last night and set up! Smiley

And I think I'm in love... Everything is running at 45C... that's a Whole ~20-25C drop in over all temp......

Pics to follow this weekend.

And We can all start talking about how to get them to all of you that want/need them.

The Next Big Boost for Bitcoin Mining: Oil Immersion Cooling
Bitcoin mining, by design, is increasing in difficulty. Enthusiasts mining in their basements have given way to professionally managed cloud services that deploy equipment on a massive scale. Growing energy requirements and rapidly evolving hardware are testing the limits of traditional infrastructure. GRC’s oil immersion cooling technology promises to boost efficiency while making infrastructure extremely flexible, quick to deploy, and easy to scale.
http://www.grcooling.com/bitcoin-mining/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5zoIEjo1Zk
what do you think?

I like many have been following the changes in cooling techniques offered by datacenters for consumer and commercial miners. Sometime ago I was discussing a similar oil immersion cooling option from Gray Matter Industries and NextFort. I'm not sure if they ever proceeded with the plan but I suspect they were utilizing the same GRC product or similar.

...
ASICMiner already had a liquid cooling setup, BitFury straight-out acquired Allied Control, and if you search these forums for 'novec', you'll find all sorts of outfits trying out 3M's liquid for cooling Bitcoin mining rigs.
Moving miners to colder climates to begin with seems a more workable solution for now Wink

Moving to colder climates is definitely a workable solution: KNC, BitFury, PeerNova and DigitalBTC would all agree given their primary operations are in the Arctic Circle. However for the small medium business mining operator that doesn't have the resources to orchestrate an overseas enterprise, immersion cooling is definitely an appropriate move. Taking ASICMiner as the example mentioned, they recognised the potential of 2 phase immersion cooling while they were still experimenting with FGPA clusters. It should very interesting too see how BitFury scales up Allied Control and the 2 phase immersion cooling configurations.

It seemed to me novac was always pretty pricy.  I wish I could find the video but I think it was ASICMiner blades from long long ago they showed a decent setup.
I don't see immersion cooling as the next big thing for miners.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZavKweMrP4

My BTC isn't Immersion cooled but in the mid 2000's I had a Performance PC I did with submersion Cooling, lets just say its a pain in the ass, and its not worth the troubles, unless; the item was designed for immersion, or you're using a designed liquid.

The Hardest part after that is the added weight to a rig/set up/rack, a 42U rack sitting has weight around 3000lbs, I know a standard rack is basically a 265gal tank, that would be adding roughly 2200lbs, so that rack would now weight roughly 2.5tons....... you also need enough "coolant" to move and pumps/circulation to move all that, and on top of that with that much heat you need a heat exchange to dump that heat elsewhere or a chiller.....
92  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: May 25, 2015, 03:29:54 PM
Anyone else having problems with the leds on the boards not lighting up but asics showing ooooo?  Is it a psu problem?  Running latest firmware stock settings.  How do you tell if its the latest psu?

LED lights come off the boards not the PSU... if it was PSU the WHOLE thing would be dead... clearly something wrong with the beagleboard.....
93  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4+ Discussion and Support Thread on: May 25, 2015, 03:28:30 PM
If absolutely nothing is happening then its power related. That can be short protection kicked in, undervolt protection (not it) or something else. Have a look about for any small bits of heatsink that may have come off during shipping, and if you can give the case a shake to check for any noise. Then it'd be on to opening up the PSU, but that is NOT something recommended as its dangerous.

Don't hear or see any loose pieces. All connectors are connected.

What does the multi meter say for power coming out the wall?

ok but it seems to me that the Ethernet port is not working because I can not enter the setup of the miner and that's the problem that I have ...

If it really is showing 127.0.0.1 on screen you have a networking issue.  Can you take a picture of the units lcd?   I just have never seen one show local host.

Thats loopback when something can't get an IP....

For anyone that cares I will be offering a S4/S4+ Water block, and Kit in the coming weeks I just need to get the engineering sample.

Let me know if anyone wants in I'll have 100% pricing with in 2 weeks.

Im down for this.... Anything to reduce the noise so i can run all day & night at full speed....

I have to turn my miner down at night to the lowest speed & then use smits fan hack to slow it down more so i can run it at night.... Mega painful

PM me with details asap..

Do u have a price estimate on these??

Plus shipping to Australia??

Currently.. No my best guess is $~45 once all is said and done for the blocks, MFG told me $30 per piece, and is sending me an engineering sample shortly, I am thinking if if done correctly we can have a single block for all 4 boards, but again I am waiting for my sample to get to my photos will be up once I get my sample.

The extra $15 is to cover the $500 I had to pay for set up/design fees.

I would probably be interested in this are they aluminum or copper blocks. You dont want to mix dissimilar metals in a loop. Thanks

Look up galvanic corrosion water loop. Interesting reading
I think it's recommended to use aluminum because copper is corrosive but i think this guy has a handle on that. What is the plan a pump with reservoir hooked to a radiator hooked to stock fans probably could get away with using just rear fans with radiator attached. Where you planning on placing the block? Does it replace the existing heat sinks up top? Or would it be the two main blocks that replace the bottom?

The problem is when mixing metals especially.  Lets say you use a aluminum blocks in miner and then a copper radiator.

Using special coolant can help on corrosion, but I doubt they will mix.  There are those silver "kill coils" but I have not tried those yet.

And Silver wont mix with Nickle coated stuff..

Right now the design is all 4 boards would mount to 1 central heat block, the block is Alum, and until i get my hands on it I am not sure how its going to mount I am taking an assumption the rear fans (or front) come off, the tube go there, and reuse the case.

The other idea was a double loop with 2 blocks one for each  set of chips.... strung like this -- Resivor->Pump->Block 1->Rad 1->Block 2-> Rad 2-  or something sadly bitmain isnt supporting it yet, so I am going to have to do some trail and error to get it up and running.
If you get the radiator to bolt or zip-tie (which would be easier)to the existing fan hole's on the rear and mount fans on that.Reservoir could be mounted on one of the front holes. If people where wondering silver coil is added in reservoir. Still unsure how 1 block works. But i assuming you take all four boards and mount onto both side of Alum. block probably through the denser bottom blocks This way you could still mount it to the case holes should still line up. In which case one board would be upside down. In that case you woul have to take hashboard and pinpoint screw to the aluminum block. One think i didn't consider is the clearance of top heatsinks which could be left in tack if they clear on bottom upside down(block mounted)  hashboards.

Agreed, If you guys want blocks to start Prototyping this, and documenting, I will offer blocks to a few of you @35/each  plus shipping after I get my Engineering sample this week.

I will accept BTC too Smiley

Waiting...

Engineering sample is en route to me

I doubt there will be a C2 sadly I think problem with C1 stopped it.   I blame sycooling for a lot of it.  They don't even log on here anymore it seems.

I would be interested to see the number of pump's that died in total.

Would have been nice to do a C2 but yeah those pumps.... Don't get me wrong, for probably $10 they worked well when they worked, but no one likes failures.

My pump lasted form November/End of Oct untill 2days ago.. so that like 6 months... my Corsair pump in my PC... over 3 years now....
