41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Where to buy GPUs ? on: July 09, 2017, 09:39:39 AM
Hi !

I've manager to get all components but the GPUs: motherboards, risers, cases ...

It appears mostly impossible to find any RX 4xx or RX 5xx in stock on any market, i'm actually stuck looking for any good GPU to take.

Any suggestions ?

Thx !

Where are you? I have a source I can get rx580s and 570s for about $250 each.

hello Evan

a couple of our users are using that board so i don't see a reason why it would not work with the cpu's on it at this point knowing there is a wide range of cpu's from the ryzen to the mutiple intel setups.

if you are asking when you have a intel cpu and a ati gpu then yes this setup is possible.
when you ask us is it possible to have AMD and NVIDIA gpu's in one rig this how ever is not possible in current builds.

i hope this answers your question
if not please join our irc channel on the freenode #pimp or our discord channel https://discord.gg/mkSPD

44  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: my long story with Bitmain and bitmainwarranty and S9 on: July 04, 2017, 01:08:03 PM
China tells me since the Power connectors caught on fire, they will not honor the warranty now.  Mind you, this machine ran for 4 months fine with no issues, prior to the ant bleed update. I ran the update, and POOF no boot, no hash from it. I immediately emailed bitmain. And told me in the email the warranty was good until June 22. Now they claim that the act of their equipment catching on fire voids warranty, even tho I used it completely as they intended, with a sufficient PSU and all 6 6pins plugged in.

I wonder how car warranty works in China?
45  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: my long story with Bitmain and bitmainwarranty and S9 on: June 30, 2017, 02:11:53 PM
So a question on how to setup a repair with Bitmain Warranty. I created an account and opened a ticket requesting a repair on my R4 but I have not received a response and it has been over a week now. Is there an email address to contact them and should I try via that method?

The unit is still under the 180 day warranty, but I understand that this will most likely be a paid repair. If a warranty repair is an option then I only have two more weeks before 180 days is up.

Currently running on a single board at half the hash rate.

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

was this an R4? because this appears to be the EXACT same things to is going on to me? how is it a paid repair if there is warranty?

As I understand it, Bitmain Warranty is not affiliated with Bitmain. My options are to ship to China for approx. $300 and a two month wait to have the unit repaired under warranty (or be told it cannot be repaired and argue the point), or send to Colorado for a  2 to 3 week turn around and repair at my expense. $25 shipping each way, and $125 to $200 for repair. Comes up less out of pocket and faster back into service.

Not really happy with that as options, but I knew this prior to purchase and I made the decision to purchase anyway. I cannot fault Bitmain for my decision to purchase their product knowing the the warranty they offer is null and void (to me).

Thanks!

My issues is they want $600 to repair one of the blades on an r4. And its STILL in Warranty. And its ONLY caught on fire after I did the Ant-bleed update. Literally the next morning it was on fire.

47  Bitcoin / Hardware / Bitmain+Bitmain Warrenty Poor communication and service? on: June 29, 2017, 08:27:55 PM
Has anyone had problems with Bitmain, trying to get out of warranty work?

Very long story short. I bought a R4 back in December/Jan of 2016. Unit caught on Fire right after doing the ant-bleed patch on or around May 1.

Spoke to bitmain, for a week or more, They assured me the unit still had warranty on it until June 22-2017, and as long as I mailed it before then we'd be fine. . Fast forward a week Bitmain china stells me they have no r4 stock or items and I will need to work with Colorado. R4 is sent and received by June 9th. Today I get notification form Bitmain Colorado. that They were only able to salvage 1 of my boards, and it was going to be $600 to replace the other board.

If the device is under warranty then isn't the burden of the cost of repairs on the mfg? why even have warranty then? as of right now I am 2 months without any hash from the device.

Anyone have firmware that removes the auto frequency and allows any kind of tuning to freq or voltage?
50  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Launches the New Antminer T9 Bitcoin Miner on: January 17, 2017, 05:44:52 PM
If higher Voltage makes then run better. Why are we not seeing firmware to up volt the  R4 and S9?Huh
51  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: December 28, 2016, 02:22:17 PM
I'm seeing:  Chip 1: 101/77   Chip 2:  80/103  Room temp is 78 deg. F.

Wow that is far hotter than my batch 1 which is overclocked to 9.3T at similar room temperatures. (61/88) (66/89)

How did you overclock?
52  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain S5 Replacement Fan on: June 11, 2015, 07:28:34 PM
New fans came - did various testing. In all scenario's, with a good push fan (160cfm min), adding a pull fan only lowers temps 1-2C.

Open case? closed case? Push/Push? Pull/Pull??? Push/Pull?

i can confirm the temp problems without internet.
just today my internet went down for about 30 minutes..

they started beeping as usual when it detects no internet and all the fans turned off. i pretty much ignored it and went on doing what i was doing.
after a few minutes i noticed the s5 beep turned into a solid tone.. ive never heard that before.

i went to check it and when i touched the heat sink and it was so hot i couldn't put my finger on it. the fans were not spinning very fast and really hot air was coming out the back. i instantly shut it down.

the internet is back on again, it seems to be working ok.. today was the final day of my 90 day warranty.. i hope i dont have any problems because of this.

this is a problem and a potential fire hazard.. had i not been home who knows what would have happened.

i went and put the fan on a molex adapter.. its not ideal since its now at full speed.. but if the internet shuts off again the fan wont stop.

In my opinion the key to have a cooler s5 with other fans is how thick they are. If you have notice the stock fan is very thick. This has the result to pull out more hot air and very fast. I dont think anyone will see low temp with any other thin fan.

Did you read about a page back when we talking about Static Pressure?
57  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: June 10, 2015, 07:49:29 PM
@bitmain why did you enclose the S3 with a case and 2 fans and leave the S5 wide open with only one LOUD fan? this is terrible for airflow.....you could probably have used a less noisy fan if u enclosed it with a case like the S3.

You can make (or order) the case by yourself. Without it S5 became lighter, so the shipping is cheaper.

Heat dissipation is developed not so good in case of S5, so it needs a powerful (it inevitable means LOUD) fan. Sure they could sell S5 equiped with two less noisy fans (most of us make such mod), or they could sell S5 without fan at all. But we got what we got.

Recently I placed all S5 to the basement, so I installed a Gembird DC120SF-12AS3 120x120x38 fan as a push fan, and stock fan as a pull (on my new 2 S5s since stock fans on them are appearantly much quieter than it was before, on earlier S5s). It works OK now.  Smiley
where can i order a case?

There has been some impressive 3d printing of parts some of which enclose the center of the miner - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1072176.0

It's fairly recent and Bitmain even supported it by sending it's OP a little coin.  I would check it out if your thinking about enclosing the S5.

i think 3d printing stuff might be overkill. i put a 1/16 inch piece of acrylic on the bottom (because i havea wire shelf) and cut a piece of card board for the top (for testing purposes) and now my blades are the same temp. before they were 4-5c apart and one would always be hotter. now they are the exact same temp most of the time. ant this is just with some crappy cardboard cut out. imagine if i had a fully enclosed aluminum case. I dont have the tools to make a metal case or a plastic one for the matter. maybe really glossy poster board will work since it has a more smooth surface. which might be better for airflow.

Considering the heat generated, paper is a bad idea.

NO there isn't, unless you suspect Spark or Flame.

Papers ignition is tempature 218–246c

The ignition temperature of corrugated cardboard is 427 C, or 800 F

Hi Bitmain! Is there any mechanical drawing of the S5 board? I want to design something to cool properly my S5s here on my tropical country, but don't want to turn off and tear down a miner just for measuring (although, if there isn't one, i gotta do it).

If you are looking for water cooling, I already have a place that can sell them to you.

The difference between cardboard and Glossy paper is nothing... the Cardboard with its rough surface MIGHT even be more aero dynamic....

The reason this is working is that the static pressure of the airflow is now even across all the blades heat sinks, its also forcing the air to dump all its energy (or gain the heat) before exiting the case, with the open case air and heat just goes all over the place.

60  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain S5 Replacement Fan on: June 09, 2015, 01:29:29 PM
Yes, it could, I would recommend the most efficient "mod" is going to be sealing that case and forcing air.

And No Cardboard isn't going to catch on fire unless you've got spark or flame, Cardboard is an AMAZING insulator... if you google around you can find a Cardboard CPU case...
