I need some info before I invest in this coin.
It won't answer your NSA question, but since you are talking about investing... Letter to an investor.
82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: March 28, 2015, 12:33:46 PM
It is perfectly legal in the protocol to spend an output that is newer
I did it several time during escrowing. I sent 99.9% of the amount of a wallet to address B, whilst it was stil marked unconfirmed from address A. Worked wonders.

Should that volunteer be denounced? Derided? Should everyone stop supporting the Primertown animal welfare shelter because of this?
Should we verify the bullshit assymetry principle? Or the dark tetrad?
83  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AEON rebrand, new thread, new developer team (positions open) on: March 28, 2015, 12:22:11 PM
hey, Smooth,

Kind of curious about the implications of your commitment to this coin for the future development of XMR.

None directly. I just saw a nice simple coin with some people supporting it that wasn't even being updated for critical security flaws, and felt I could help out with that.
It is like saying my involvement with HyperStake meant something about Monero. Or like a rock music guitarist getting invited in, say, a flamenco band.

Like if we were condemned to do just one thing  Roll Eyes

Update: moved to this thread after I read the request about not posting in the previous thread

Update2: smooth, you should have created a dedicated shared account for the OP (like the "monero" account is). The thread is new, you can still do it Smiley
84  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: XMR vs DRK on: March 28, 2015, 12:30:59 AM
Well, people like me appreciate the analysis. True, you may not influence people who are heavily financially invested in DRK, but people who are legitimately interested in evaluating the technology will probably pay attention.
Idea: compiling all the useful analysis in one (very) self-moderated thread, clearly targeted at being a reference, not a discussion. Or even a closed discussion, or an independant document, like a Latex file (perfect for maths). Copy paste may trump the bullshit assymetry principle (well, not for writing but for referencing it later on, especially if several version of the documents are published).

People dont read posts that are too long.
Quite the opposite, at least in my case. I long noticed a strongly (but not absolute) positive correlation between the length of a post and its usefulness.

87  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: XMR vs DRK on: March 25, 2015, 01:50:02 AM
sorry, i didn't see you are a Monero dev.  It's just another vague accusation without a) links b) references c) any facts d) tries to divert the reader without answering the question.  My bad!  Undecided
Ad hominem. Now you shall move to the next step, ad personam (as for accusations, I already replied).

OK, session ended for me, it was fun too read, also a bit repetitive. I think I won't watch the next season.
88  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: March 25, 2015, 01:47:19 AM
Those people in the dark coin thread are crazy! Its like some sort of cult or something over there. They all have me blocked but I did nothing that could be construed as trolling. They think it was part of some sort of elaborate plan, that i was "laying spider webs" and that it was going to all climate in some sort of very clever troll trap.

It's actually really bad because I run something of a little business on bitcoin talk by selling my impeccable reputation and I cant have people ignoring me. In fact I was tip toeing around the whole time precisely because of this. But it's just apparently SO easy to offend their delicate sensitivities that i somehow managed to do it.

*edit* part of me wants to go over there and try to repair the damage i somehow caused but the smarter part of me knows that if i do ill make things worse.
Animal studies showed that animal exhibiting a behaviour are the most prone to be concerned of someone else exhibiting the same behaviour - this works for humans too. Probably something related to mirror neurons.

For instance, the blackbird (not 100% it is the blackbird, but definitely a non-raptor bird) steals food from others and his constantly taking measure to avoid its own food being stolen. My previous competitor at scriptarium.fr (that we then left in the dust) was convinced every one was trying to scam him - it happens that he was the kind to scam everyone. This is a great way to gauge a person. Tell me what you fear, I'll tell you what you are.

Now, you are telling that they think this is "some sort of elaborate plan". Should tell you something about their way of behaving.

I didn't know there were 5 MONERO DEVS on here. That is hilarious Cheesy

EDIT: if you so idle why don't you apply for job as Drk dev, they are hiring hard working devs!!!  oh, wait,
After working on their project, some people watch TV or video to relax. Me, I eat popcorn reading the DRK drama unfolding again. That's how I found 18 reasons why DRK i broken. FYI, I found 7 more last week. And 1 more again today.

All of this is my free time. You know, the one when I'm not working on making the world a better place.

so you are going to publish your results here, and go collect the drk bounty for finding security issues?
You should read more closely. I help you: look the parts I bolded.

This is supposed to be XMR vs DRK, but I mostly see attacks on DRK and not much praise for XMR. So a list, that hopefully will be useful for genuinely curious people (I want to believe there will be some):

What's so special about Monero
92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: March 24, 2015, 04:37:32 PM
Regarding https://merkle.io: "our artificial intelligence will detect these terms" => /dev/null

Regarding DRK:
- I quoted two interesting posts
- I also agree with "[DRK's] failure is harmful to all of us."
- Also, fluffy's "domination post" and othe's "domination post" on DRK nicely complements my domination post on DRK. Basically: a government can easily take control of the DRK network without even making it visible (note that it can also control Bitcoin network or any other network - including Monero - if it really wants to, but it would be more expensive).

Regarding privacy and anonymity: we use "privacy" exclusively in our speeches. Anonymity =  drug dealers: Privacy = family values. Marketing recommendation: "privacy" and "anonymity", PR-wise.
93  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: March 23, 2015, 12:46:02 PM
- the core team's escrow role can eventually be replaced by a multi-sig system (2-of-3) where the signatories are the core team, the oversight group, and the recipient, so the recipient can't spend those raised funds without the involvement of one of the other 2 signatories

I would prefer 3-of-4, for the reason below (this is an early peek at my future "What is multisignature" editorial).
+-----------+----------------+---------------+-------------+--------------+
|   M-of-N  | Compromission  |  Collusion    | Redundancy  | # of persons |
+-----------+----------------+---------------+-------------+--------------+
| 1-of-1    |               |              |            |      1       |
|   2FA     |               |              |            |      1       |
| 2-of-2    |               |              |            |      2       |
| 3-of-3    |               |              |            |      3       |
| 2-of-3    |               |              |            |      3       |
| 3-of-4    |               |              |            |      4       |
+-----------+----------------+---------------+-------------+--------------+

  • Compromission: technical failure, exploit
  • Collusion: conspiracy
  • Redundancy: error correction

Edit: a green check mark doesn't mean "immune". It means "mitigates". It is still possible to collude or to not have enough redundancy with 3 persons, but starting from the values above, the difference is quantitative, not qualitative.
94  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: March 23, 2015, 02:51:27 AM
Mental note: create an account at Monero forum at the next days and unsubscribe from this shitty thread full of off-topic.
Notice how my amount of posting substantially dropped here (the previous one was not even about Monero). And forum.getmonero.org finally got a "subscribe" button.

So Long Bitcointalk, and Thanks for All the Phish
Bitcointalk is not a good environment if we want serious discussion about Monero. That much should be obvious. At some point we have to start cutting the apron strings and disconnecting from Bitcoin, especially since we share few common goals and no common code. It would be unfair of us to force newcomers interested in Monero to dig through thousands of scamcoin, shill, and troll posts on bitcointalk to find the occasional gem of information.

Additionally, you cannot possibly convince me that people needing help in running and using Monero should all gather in a single thread on a Bitcoin forum?? Nah, we've done our time here, there's no value in maintaining all the Monero threads on Bitcointalk. Anyone here who needs to know about Monero already does know about Monero;)

Our beloved core team member David Latapie is being considered for the hugely coveted title of Altcoin Gangster. Although in connection with his other coin, I think we should still give him some Monero love over here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=723764.0

Damnit, only 16 votes!

96  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin GANGSTERS poll - who willl rot in prison for scam? on: March 23, 2015, 01:12:41 AM
OMG totally voted for that scoundrel David Latapie.

 Grin Grin

We should only call him Dastardly Dave from now on!

Damnit, only 16 votes!

97  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] Qeditas: A Formal Library as a Bitcoin Spin-Off (Snapshot Soon) on: March 21, 2015, 10:04:05 PM
Interesting. How will it be different from CLAM, distribution-wise?

I hope no retarded exchange will add this coin, since it is not supposed to be for money.
98  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: March 21, 2015, 11:55:00 AM
There is no need to resort to arguments about the worse technology winning because of better marketing or suggest that people were being tricked into buying the objectively worse product. Does that ever happen? Maybe, but not nearly as often as the argument is made about beta/vhs for example (and a few others).
It is possible that Flash memory, SD-RAM, HTML... (all technology notably inferior to the competition at time of release) are the exception rather than the rule. Without rational tools like (well-done) statistics, we human tend to suffer from selective bias - the same reason why a plane crash causes more turmoil than road deaths, despite the latter being much more common than the former).

April 18 according to the first post in this thread.
This also was a late delivery because TFT wanted to publish on the 17th. I updated the History of Monero.

ripple (though im not sure its really a crypto currency, you have to decide yourself
They are not.

There are also a small number of digital currencies, the most prominent of which is Ripple, that seek consensus through non-cryptographic means
