383  Economy / Speculation / Don't invest in Bitcoin until August 2015 (at least) on: January 13, 2015, 04:46:55 AM
This is my conclusion after reading this (Gartner's Hype Cycle of Emerging Technologies 2014 - next one is due in August 2015, full report is priced 1,999 USD)

I usually read it every year. I did not this year, my mistake.

Wait at least until August (next Gartner Hype Cycle of emerging technologies). And considering the place cryptocurrencies in the 5-10 years segment to maturity, I think we have one-two years before it becomes profitable.

That being said, you shall research and prepare on crypto. Just don't expect it to be profitable. In the meantime, you have ample opportunities to become an expert who could sell his proficiency to companies once crypto become mature enough.

I've invested some Dogecoins, I'll let you know what happens.
If things works, i'll try with small amounts of btc.
See? Fits my theory perfectly. People start with alts and if it works will go for BTC. Surely a lot of people won't go as far as injecting fiat, but some will and I suppose that enough people will lose mind.

Of course people will get burnt big time and this will call for even more regulation. In the end, this is bad for the libertarian aspect of bitcoin (but could be good in an ironic way by creating more confidence and adoption since bitcoin would be regulated even more).

My pet conspiracy theory: cryptodouble to pump BTC

Then why are they accepting altcoins too? They want to pump every cryptocurrency?
To build trust. People in the alt scene have less money, so they can start from lower, which means they can last longer and thus grow more confidence.
388  Economy / Investor-based games / Cryptodouble BTC pump on: January 07, 2015, 04:01:56 PM
My pet conspiracy theory: cryptodouble to pump BTC

So far, people are only sending petty money.
A hypothesis is that: what they want is for people to not only invest more money, but end up being so euphoric they also invest cash to buy more bitcoin (and double them), thus skyrocketing the price of Bitcoin, which is rather low at the moment. Kind of "anniversay pump" - last BTC pump was a bit more than one year ago.
And then, they would strike.

I have no idea how plausible this is but at least if this is their idea, that would be less boring than a mere ponzi.

Because frankly, who cares for alt (except Monero, of course Smiley)? BTC is the real deal.

Update: I've been asked "Then why are they accepting altcoins too? They want to pump every cryptocurrency?".
My answer is:
"To build trust. People in the alt scene have less money, so they can start from lower, which means they can last longer and thus grow more confidence."

If you hesitated to invest and now with tthis theory you feel confident enough to try your luck, please show your gratitude by using my referral: http://cryptodouble.com/?ref=fzKm8 Thanks!

For infromation: withdrawals on luckyalt.com/hyperstake/ are manually-approved so they may take hours to be accepted, which is completely normal.

Request: a way to know the build number. Compare illustations 1 (previous wallet) and 2 (new wallet, compiled today). No easy way to see the difference. Oh, there is one: the build date. And, surprise, surprise, the build date for the newer wallet is older than the build date of the newer wallet! Plus, none of these build date correspond to today, but I assume this is normal, because this is build date and not compilation|/i] date.

I also note that I once again have this issue of the menu bar (with the theme menu) disappearing with new code, so I have to stick with old code (illustration 3 is previous wallet, with menu bar and illustration 4 is new compilation without menu bar)

It is worth nothing that we I tried to upgrade old wallet (with a pull request and a compilation), I had this message:

So in order to get the new code, I had to reinstall from scratch.

Does the new code handles S4C correctly Or do I lose of lot of my stake with this new code too?
393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Multisend or recurring payments? on: January 06, 2015, 05:39:00 AM
Wasn't the name "multisend" picked due to proposed feature  to perform multiple s4c ? (More than 2).
David, correct me if I am wrong on this.

Also, I think "reaccuring" is only the nature of the function and should be undertood and expected by user, as it would continue  to preform a set function untill changed by user again.
multisend was just a temporary name. Of course, we all know what happens to code name... they stick Smiley multisend is an improvement of the current S4C but from the beginning, I named the whole thing HyperSend, S4C being just a subset.
That being said, both multisend and recurringsend are correct: You can can to several persons at once and you can send in an automated way.
Quote
HyperSend
HyperSend is a generalization of the idea that first came up with Stake for Charity. [...]  This can be used for a variety of purposes:

The above-mentioned well-known Stake for Charity.
[other examples]
So, just sticking to the original name HyperSend would make the most sense. multisending is just the latest improvement. Granted, we lose the "immediate understanding" of "recurring send" but we stay on the marque thing with "Hyper-*". as iantunc said, a "Feature name™".

RecurringSend
Multisend
HyperSend - I vote for this one

Lost password from my wallet. You can reset it or recover?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=721045.msg8148510#msg8148510

If Poloniex and Bter and Hitbtc can figure out how to detect XMR deposits and send XMR, then the groundwork has basically been done. There are a bunch of marketplaces that would be accepting XMR right now, such as Cryptsy, that aren't accepting XMR simply because it's not super-easy for them to figure it out.
But not publicly documented - and this what we want.
TheKoziTwo, as far as I remember, Poloniex got massive inspiration from your code at cryptonote.exchange.to for inclusion in Poloniex (and swaphole too). Could you prepare some documentation, that the community would happily polish?
I'll see what I can do. Perhaps a code example / working demo would be useful.

Thanks. It would.

"Subscriptions"

mouse over "Feature allows for automatic recurring payments"

alt
"AutoPay"
Mouse over: good idea (to follow the principal of least astonishement, there should be small question mark, then)
"Subscriptions" and "AutoPay" are words that restrict the use case/ All the example below are cases of not paying but just sending for other reasons.

Quote
- The above-mentioned well-known Stake for Charity.
-  Securing funds in a cold wallet - for security of for protecting oneself against "compulsive spending". Notice cold wallets do not stake so you would trade some profits for added security. This is the intended purpose for BottleCaps and the reason why it is called autosaving there.
-  Sending to exchange to trade for other coins. This is particularly useful in the context of the HyperShield initiative: in order to maintain liquidity, sell 25% of your stake every month (set S4C to 25% with your exchange address).
-  Promoting HyperStake (and making it less centralized), by automatically sending coins to lower holders, typically newcomers. This feature will gain its full potential once it will is possible to autosend to several addresses and to also send only for a limited time (like a 30 days welcome gift for newcomers).
-  Sending some HYP to your reddit/##hyperstake... balance, for tipping.

What about "Cyclic send"?
Not a fan, but in the end, I'd like the community to decide, not me alone Smiley

Multisend or recurring payments?

Mintcoin uses the term "recurring payments" instead of S4C. I find "recurring payments" much more appealing than multisend (I can say that, since I am the one who proposed 'multisend'). And you, what do you prefer? 'multisend' or 'recurring payements'?

'Recurring payments' is describing the essence of feature more precisely, but is inconvenient for usage in terms of phonetics and sounds like a generalized description rather then a feature name. Besides that, it's better to implement unique names, if they are not standardized. 'Multisend' is good but quite misleading, as it can be confused with Bitcoin's sendmany RPC call. We can try 'Autosend(s)' or 'Autopayment(s)', or something like this.
Since then, I changed to "recurringsend", shorter and closer to the truth (see las paragraph), like Mint. Still one syllable too long for me. I don't really like recurringsend either, but could not find anything better (recursend would be awful).
397  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Free money (no risk) on: January 05, 2015, 02:01:29 PM
Not a bought account and check my rep thread, you would know better. And yes, I did not find any sensible place to post this.

I removed the affiliation links, since it is against the rules, and I also added a fourth entry, more risky (so it could stay here, maybe) and changed the title.
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Multisend or recurringsend? on: January 05, 2015, 01:46:44 PM
Multisend or recurring payments?

Mintcoin uses the term "recurringsend" instead of S4C.

That got me thinking. What about changing the proposed name "multisend" for "recurring send" (at first, I proposed recurring payment", but payment is only one kind of sending as examplified by the HyperSend page? It fits the principle of least astonishment (POLA) much more appealing than multisend (I can say that, since I am the one who proposed 'multisend'). And you, what do you prefer? 'multisend' or 'recurring send'?

So you'd like to get some more bitcoin without spending cash? Below are some options

Shortlink: bit.ly/faucets-btc

1. qoinpro
2. chronofaucet
3. how to get a BTC address
4. invest in casino

== 1. Qoinpro ==
http://qoinpro.com/
1. Follow this link
   http://qoinpro.com/
2. Then create an account
That's all. You don't even have to do something from time to time. What's the catch? I did not find any and I am on it for several months. OK, there may be one: payment is REALLY low (you can somehow mitigate this with affiliation) and you cannot withdraw until you reach a certain level. There is zero risk for you.

== 2. Chronofaucet ==
http://www.chronofaucet.com/
Faucets are usually not worth the trouble. This one is different though and so is worth it (in my opinion, of course). You get up to 1000 satoshi every four hours but, more important, you can click whenever you want and get immediate reward. Yes, even if you click every 5 seconds. So it avoids the main burden of other faucets where you have to remember when to click. This one, you just let the tab opened, click when you think of it and that's all. As long as there is less than 4 hours between two clicks, you earn the maximum possible. Plus, you get an extra 30% of the rewards of affiliated members (at no cost to them, of course).
So remember to click to link: http://www.chronofaucet.com/
It requires more work than the previous link but is much more rewarding than the previous one (although this is still rather low). First, you must click regularly and solve a captcha. Second, you must give a bitcoin address. If you don't have any, I will show you below how to create one. You setup the address on the "settings" page and you get your affiliation link (and number of referrals) on the "affiliate" page.

== 3. How to get a BTC address ==
This part is obviously only for people with no previous cryptocurrency experience. I had it so that you can redirect your IRL friends here (if you want to benefit from your own affiliation links, quote my text and change the affiliation links - you can also link directly to your post with a shortlink service)

To have a BTC address (especially for Chronofaucet - Qoinpro doesn't require any)
1. follow this link: https://poloniex.com/signup
2. follow instructions (enter email, password twice, click "I am not a robot" and enter the CAPTCHA if any, accept the terms and conditions, validate your email...)
3. follow this link: https://poloniex.com/balances
4. in the search field (center of the page), type "BTC". BTC (short for "Bitcoin") cryptocurrency will appear dynamically
5. click "generate new address". The line above "Deposit: Press Generate..." will become "Deposit: 1xxxxxx". This line "1xxxxxx" is your brand new bitcoin address. Now you can return to http://www.chronofaucet.com/ and enter it under the "settings" section.

== 4. Invest in casinos ==
Online betting site such as just-dice.com (CLAM)/doge-dice.com (DOGE) and luckyalt.com (several alts including HYP and HTML5) allow you to "be the bank" - in the long run, you get more money (the house always win) but you may lost some in the short term. Plus, you are basically trusting a foreigner with your money. Finally, you might earn more money by trading (or, in the case of high-pos, by staking)

I hope this is useful, especially for newcomers in cryptocurrency.
If you appreciate this post, PM a thank you of publicly express your appreciation (no donation, please - just warm thank you)
