801  Local / Press & News from India / Re: [2016-08-06] BS: Hacked bitcoin exchange says it will spread losses among users on: August 08, 2016, 03:08:43 PM
All they did was take away 36% of the funds and instead credited their accounts with BFX tokens which they are claiming will be given 1$ values. Kind of another scam.
802  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitfinex WEBSITE BACK TO LIFE on: August 08, 2016, 03:07:24 PM
where can I find the log of all my previous transaction?
I have a few litecoin and some cash there in the account. It's now missing, I cannot see them yet.
And I also have 1/3 of my BTC gone. replaced by BFX. of equal dollar amount.

OK fine,. the site is hacked.
The coin must have been transfer to another addresses.
Does any one know which is bitfinex bit addresses, and to which addresses the coin get transferred.
120,000 coins, I ;m sure we can track the addresses in blockchain and find the culprit.

Yes, they have replaced everything by BFX tokens for now. A lot of people are claiming thats another scam. Bitfinex right now  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GSXbgfKFWg ( source: reddit)

I believe you can find the address to what coins were transferred by doing a google search. It isn't so easy, they cover their tracks very well. Plus bitcoins are almost untraceable. You can see the address but not the owner, and they can be mixed along the way making it further impossible to trace.
803  Economy / Services / Re: New website for Buy Or Sell BTC on: August 08, 2016, 06:01:54 AM
How do you intend to make paypal an acceptable way to buy or sell bitcoins as they don't support it and the method will very likely be charged back.
804  Economy / Gambling / Re: Cloudbet.com started scamming and delaying cashing outs. on: August 08, 2016, 05:56:47 AM
While I have never had problems withdrawing on the site, but I have read a lot of people having these issues. So I think something more efficient should be done to ensure more security.

Also I have read people having delays after deposits, how is that related to security?
805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitfinex WEBSITE BACK TO LIFE on: August 08, 2016, 05:48:30 AM
Great to hear. But id recommend not depositing for now, wait for any bugs to be cleared.

"Security
We pride ourselves on being the most secure bitcoin exchange."

Copied from bitfinex.  Grin Grin Grin

Haha! Where you get that?

If they're really the most secure, I'm very afraid of trading on other Exchanges xD

Wait for bugs to be cleared ? They were hacked after calling themselves to be the most secured and having multisig and you still want us all to trust their security ? Its ironic for them to be claiming to be the most secure exchange.
806  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: VIII FREE Tipster Competition - sponsored by DirectBet (Discussion Thread) on: August 05, 2016, 10:18:01 AM
I have a question about the 70 mbtc that is given out. What exactly are the requirements for that ? Do I have to have a rollover of 2000 points just in general while betting on directbet or only during the contest I have to bet 2000 mbtc ?
807  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Quit Gambling. on: August 05, 2016, 10:15:24 AM
There are already a lot of topics on this. Consider looking at suggestions in this topic: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1249010.3340

Probably has the biggest discussion about giving up gambling addiction.
808  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitfinex HACKED- funds stolen ! on: August 03, 2016, 09:33:39 AM
I read more than 80m$ worth of coins stolen. So little of them dumped till now. When this is over we may see below 300$ if that's true.

This will end so badly. Everything that people worked for till now will be dirt. Families will be ruined. So sad.
Usually in cases like these, the coins aren't sold immediately due to everyone trying to track them. But its the speculation and the market sentiments which leads to the crash. The real crash happens later when those coins are actually sold. But I doubt they are sold on exchanges.
809  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitfinex HACKED - funds stolen ! on: August 03, 2016, 08:46:39 AM
Is the $60mm from Bitfinex being used to pump ETC?
We would see if the coins see any action. So far I would think its just people who have realized about the hack and are moving to other coins to not let their investments go down. Just like people do with the dollar and gold.
810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitfinex discovered a security breach and halted trading! on: August 03, 2016, 12:04:38 AM
the loss is so big, that they will likely not continue to offer the exchange.
They have said that they will reopen the exchange.
I would actually be surprised to see that happen. However I believe the comment you are referring to had this reply from the rep: " When i say relaunch i am referring to bringing the site back up so that people can close positions, withdraw etc."

So its not exactly coming back. Its only for withdrawals of altcoins or something like that.
811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitfinex discovered a security breach and halted trading! on: August 02, 2016, 11:58:47 PM
Bitfinex just announced they discovered a security breach in their website and halted all Bitcoin deposits and withdrawals because bitcoins were stolen.

https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@soapsadu/bitfinex-discovered-a-security-breach-and-halted-trading

What do you think?
That's a shames. It was bound to happen soon. Let's hope they fix the breach soon.
Possibly that it why BTC is falling too.
The damage is already done. People sell because of the fear of all those bitcoins landing in the selling market. They obviously will fix the breach, but the loss is so big, that they will likely not continue to offer the exchange.
812  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 02, 2016, 11:55:02 PM
From what I have read, there is a possibility that its bitgo's fault on the hack, and if thats the case then they do have insurance. But I doubt it will get all this covered. We will know once the company releases an announcement about it.

didn't bitpay recently fail in an insurance claim?

You mean you expect an insurgence co to pay out because CTO knowingly bypassed security protocall and told CEO "Yo broster, send over some coinz to this addy!" because wanted concert tix or some shit?

Evol insurance companies... Can't trust them.

Read my post before you. Apparently bitgo had nothing to do with the bitcoin market. It was the ETH they are responsible for , which right now is safe.
813  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 02, 2016, 11:52:36 PM
How come they lost so much? Aren't they storing cold?

No. Users had multisig addys. They didn't use hot/cold.
can you (or anyone else ) explain the 2/3 keys needed to move the coins?

1 is the client
1 is bitfienx

what's the 3rd???

No. Client held no keys. One is finex. Two is bitgo. The third I think is also finex (offline). Either way is a shitty implementation.

Just read the representatives reply on this. They say bitgo was only for ETH market and not the bitcoin market. So no hope of recovery from there.
814  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 02, 2016, 11:42:54 PM
120k btc stolen + no insurance for Bitfinex Shocked
From what I have read, there is a possibility that its bitgo's fault on the hack, and if thats the case then they do have insurance. But I doubt it will get all this covered. We will know once the company releases an announcement about it.
815  Local / India / Re: Do you think the Price of Bitcoin will rise? on: August 02, 2016, 11:39:35 PM
Its call Bitfinex Hack effect.
119k btc boom.
lets see what happens in next 12 hours.
its gonna be good opportunity too to buy btc at low rates again.
and bad loss for many too.

Bitcoin is not about just buying and selling. Due to this the miners will suffer. if the price goes down any further, then the miners won't profit at all, and hence would likely stop mining and affect the network. Could worsen the situation.
816  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Crash, BitFinex Hacked on: August 02, 2016, 11:31:44 PM
Anyone know if ETC at bitfinex safe?
Not exactly sure, but if its an altcoin or related to Ethereum, then the representative did post the altcoins were not affected. But I can't be sure if they would still pay that out, since they will likely use whatever they have to cover their personal losses first.
817  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you think that the current dump is going to destroy the image of bitcoin? on: August 02, 2016, 11:27:30 PM
Honestly, I always believe in the blockchain. But bitcoin as a whole already doesn't have any good reputation anyways. This will definitely destroy the price, but not the technology.

fwiw.....Bitcoin needs $500 MINIMUM in order for it being worthwhile for the miners to continue mining and maintaining the network.

Hopefully then we don't see a negative effect in the morning, when the chinese wake up. They would likely not damage the price in their own interest. The price is sort of now over 500, but still can go either way.
818  Local / India / Re: Do you think the Price of Bitcoin will rise? on: August 02, 2016, 11:22:46 PM
looks like its not rising currently. Today its $560 and going down.. and was 630 yesterday. Thats around 15% drop.

Its because of the bitfinex hack. Total estimated amount of bitcoins stolen amounts to 119K bitcoins. Already led the price down to 480. Anything can happen in the next 24 hours.
819  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitfinex HACKED- funds stolen ! on: August 02, 2016, 11:21:34 PM
Update,

the funds stolen are 119,756 btc. that means aprox 60 millions USD

Do you think that Bitfinex will cover this amount and it will business as usual? Smiley

Definitely not. They only earn on trading fees. I was surprised to even see bitstamp make it back after being hacked for 18K bitcoins. 120K bitcoins is not covereable in any manner. They don't even have assets to continue.

Bitstamp has some investors as backup and 5 MIL are not like 60 MIL USD. Bitfinex is alone and even they have 60 mil, they will never cover this loss. They will close the website and they will live their life without any headaches with the money they earned until now.

I know bitfinex is alone and not insured, however there is still a possibility the fault lies with bitgo from where the funds were stolen. Bitgo unlike bitfinex is insured, but I am not sure how this will all play out. The insurance MIGHT come into play if it happens to be bitgo's fault.
820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Crash, BitFinex Hacked on: August 02, 2016, 11:17:09 PM
So this is the reason for that sudden drop. Lucky for the hacker(s) they stole a big amount of btc. What the hell with the security? If the security is very weak. Who would want to own btc? They should work on that coz huge amount is at risk if this thing continues. Expect more dropping this week.
I would say expect more drop in the morning , when the Chinese wake up. They tend to affect the prices even more. Right now the wall to trinkle down to 450's is very thin.
