801  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: -> Monero Community Hall of Fame <- on: August 24, 2016, 07:41:34 PM
I'm tired of investing in what I can "afford to lose"... I want to invest an amount that would be LIFE CHANGING if that investment pays off.

What does it mean by "afford to lose" I don't have debt or bills that I'm worried about. I can lose $10K and be okay, but I certainly dont wipe my ass with $10K so I can't say I can "afford to lose it" like it's chump change.

You should invest in a way that there is as small a chance as possible of all your assets becoming worth zero at the same time. For instance a portfolio of 20% real property, 20% banknotes, 20% gold, 20% mutual/retirement funds and 20% crypto, fulfils this criterion. If real property loses its value, gold goes up to more than make up for the loss. If banknotes lose their value, crypto soars. Etc.

I don't like the "can afford to lose" rule because people misinterpret it to mean "insignificant amount". In fact it means an amount that hurts, yet does not cause house resizing, change in lifestyle or turning to crime to make up for the losses. It can be 10% of net worth, but for some young and relatively poor, even 100%+ is in fact amount that they "can afford to lose", literally.

To have a chance of life changing payoff, you need to invest very methodically, which basically means investing a large enough sum in a quick succession, and then waiting with the investment that it pays off, and never sell. An alternative is to set a selling schedule based on new higher prices, but this method requires more initial capital. I still suggest it because the occasional selling keeps your hand in the game.

Everything is possible, but I believe the most likely scenario is 2nd Fibonacci retracement of the newest move. The move looks like a double top, also bouncing down from the Mintpal resistance level, so is technically bearish now.

The top is visible (0.00938), but the startpoint of the move is more difficult, can be at least 0.00100, 0.00161, 0.00263. Depending which one we take, the retracement bottom should be somewhere between 0.00420 to 0.00520.

Retracing to that price range and bouncing back up, is also supported by theory that the secular resistance in 0.00420 has become a support due to the breach in high volume. The support must be tested, after which the rise can continue.
803  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 24, 2016, 10:18:53 AM
So, this artificial pump is over in a few days and XMR will have time to consolidate until December back to 0.0018 - 0.0024
I hope you guys are selling your coins and getting them back in December, because this was a Marketmakerpump starting with somewhat 1000BTC and now ending slowly  Grin Wink

How is it artificial?

Care to provide proof of your claims?

Well it sure looked special, turning half of the existing XMR in 24 hours. Reminds me of the Mintpal pump.

That said, I believe much good was achieved regardless of anything. It is possible that this was the first real upleg. Or even if we fall back, I believe 420k will now be a strong support. Even going to 180-240k, nothing new there. Not many thought it possible to revisit 100k, yet even that happened!

The game is about how many you own and can keep in your possession. If you own 1000 BTC, you are well positioned, but it is expensive to gain that position if you start now. If you owned 1000 BTC five years ago, it is equally good as 1000 BTC now, only if you have managed to keep it from theft, hack, taxman, your own mistakes in storage, and most importantly from your urge to sell.

Many reading this have 1000 XMR, or even much more. In five years, or less, it might have equal value as 1000 BTC now. Statistically, an extremely small fraction of people manage to do it, though.

I believe it's prudent to budget in advance that half of the remaining coins are lost, every time the price rises x10. So the ones who wish to have the coveted 1000 XMR when the price hits $5k, should buy 10k now.

Hmm... it seems that XMR is more mature now than BTC when I heard of it. It has 50 times higher market cap as well...

And should we start to plan a Monero $100 or $1,000 party?  Can we do it at Malla?

Malla can comfortably host about 20 guests, so I'd like the party held so that everyone fits in who is able to come.

$10 perhaps?  Cheesy
805  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 23, 2016, 12:06:22 PM
I can't believe you are not holding Monero!

Still at least you have a roof over your head Cheesy

Yeah, shit happens, but the house is still promising. We are starting a community there and Daniel Raissar is coming. Life goes on.

I'd be interested in your thoughts about XAG - it seems to have taken a life of its own recently. How long do you think the recent correction will continue?

Um no idea. Historically XAG is quite cheap so I'd invest a small % of portfolio as a hedge with appreciation potential. But it is no more a lynchpin of the global economy, ever since crypto was invented.
806  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 23, 2016, 09:45:20 AM
I sold 55% of my xmr today for a nice healthy profit. I'll buy back in a few months when the price has shed over 50% of its gains.

Bitcoin also started from sub-$1 one point. Especially the ride to $32 left no prisoners so good luck with your plan.

(I do advocate diversifying, but not buying back lower, because I think it increases the risk with no corresponding gain).
807  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: August 23, 2016, 09:27:17 AM
I will play of course, contribute as I can and continue to fulfill my duties in CK.

I started playing CK because I was so excited about Monero's potential but there was nothing to use it on at the time. No XMR.to, no Shapeshift, no MyMonero. Not to mention some very depressing periods of time involving the price, so playing a game at least brought some enjoyment to everyone.

Along the way the game has had many ups and downs in interest, lots of features added and realized, and it has been a great accomplishment. Maybe it even saved Monero from doom in its darkest times.

I am surprised all the CON holders have not chimed in yet but maybe they are too busy basking in the XMR glow, enjoying their summer breaks.  Grin

Thanks for this. From many mouths, I have now heard that CK has been important in keeping the small XMR community from throwing in the towel. Occasionally it has been dark, such as seeing volume in Poloniex at BTC36 per day (now BTC36,000).

NewLiberty also approached me, voicing much support but not currently more possibility to personally invest time. He mentioned also the idea that we could continue to play in the current version for some more time, if escaping out of it in a concerted effort feels too risky. I will comment on the idea more in the meetings that soon begin.

Will play as long as there is a game to play. While I'm tapped out as far as investment--I can contribute a couple hours a day to the project for as long as needed.

This is most precious.

In the cryptoworld, fortunes change very quickly. At the current XMR/fiat rate, the players who also hold XMR, are 3 times richer. I have the feeling that raising the money required for Clans to materialise, is not the main problem. Money is fungible (especially XMR hehe) so it does not so much matter who gives it, when, how and in what kind of sums. On the other hand, the people, the community, are not fungible. So far the only successful key person recruited in the game is Wizard Developer. Since he was found by Thud, I have asked Thud to seek Community Manager and/or CEO. And have actually 2 possibilities from my own contacts. In any case, I believe our "24/7 team" will grow by 1 if not 2 people this autumn.

In addition the admins structure needs clarity, people knowing what they can and are supposed to do, and what they get from it.

The CKG was premined to the King, not to enrich the King (the opportunities to sell it are few), but to be used for the good of the Kingdom. With more people and workhours in the team, it makes sense to diversify the CKG holdings as well.

after readed some article and asks questions, but i still don't know, i don't how to start for this alt, i open official website: http://cryptokingdom.me/ but more than 3 minutes not open in my browser. maybe your website is to hard to loading and too many scripts,

Hi! The website is correct and usually it loads relatively fast.

When you sign up, you will get to see our "Ultima" version of the game, but that one will not come back. We are now paused, and when it ends, we will have "Clans", which is more tailored towards play and less towards wealth management.

Now it is practically not possible to play.
811  Other / Archival / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: August 19, 2016, 08:43:28 AM
When is the game going to be available for evaluation?

Unpausing the game in its current incarnation is hardly possible. To resume playing, we need to develop the new version, Clans. To develop it, we need a nontrivial boost to our team resources, and to have the resources, they need to sign up. This rusty old forum is the initial venue for these calls to action, but once the team shapes up, we will move to the TownMgn, TownCouncil and DevSlack channels or whatever works.

There will not be any game ready for anyone's evaluation, before we have decided to make it (and have made it). It may come as a surprise that a decision is needed now, when 'everyone is eager to have it ready', so I have tried to explain the reason for this need in the previous posts.

Faithful to my style, I have written about this wake-up procedure as a matter of life or death. But the analogy is actually very valid. Each morning, you either wake up, or you are dead. Crypto Kingdom is sleeping, and a certain procedure is needed to wake it up. The procedure is different from last time, when me and PJ force-marched a new platform when none existed. Now my will alone is not enough to both wake it up and get it to the next milestone.

What I seek to accomplish here, is to gain back the active players and rework the game community administration. In a few days, 20 people should sign up (4 so far). Then from this "general assembly", Town Council would be appointed, general plan drafted, roles and tasks appointed to the members, money raised, and all the structure made that is needed to support the growth. After this, game development.
812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: August 18, 2016, 11:46:07 PM
Cool thanks for the thoughts!

There might be differing opinions on what follows, but the original intention with CK is that it should help and support Monero, and make Monero bigger and more successful. Not the other way round. Specifically, the return on investment should predominantly be the success and increase of value of the players' Monero stash. Even if CK also could provide a positive return, which historically it indeed has done, even in excess of XMR.

After this long period of juggling with a tiny self-supporting community, ongoing game, and evolving design and development spex, we are now in the crossroads. It is hardly truthful to say that a small scale game for a few hundred people is crucial for the life of Monero. So that path, even if easy to take, should not be taken because it avails nothing. It leaves us with a significantly enlarged game, or no game at all.

As I said, "enlarged" hardly means much more features in the software, but it means much more work for the team, in polishing and testing the gaming platform, making it scale, marketing, and all the other activities happily ignored all this far. It does require a conscious decision to do it, and a plan on how to do it. There has to be a number of people committing time and money to it. This is also the community seal that we are doing important stuff. [As previously, nobody needs to commit without expectation of a handsome return if the game succeeds.]

* * *
Why do I suddenly question the very existence of the game? Last summer, we were in dire straits, Town was in debt, there was no gaming platform at all, it had been paused for 3+ months, and much less accounts than now. Most importantly, we did not have a developer. So, why question it now? The answer is:

Monero is 400% up from that time. (fiat terms) We are in the situation with 5x the finances to make the game great. So I am waiting for encouraging PM's from people who want to inject cold, hard cash to the development as it costs them nearly nothing compared to a year ago or any other time.

Enthusiastic community is a must have, in community-based development that this is. While it is understandable that everyone needs a break (also I had one  Grin ), coming back after the break with renewed zeal is quite central. We are not so many, and if everyone ignores the game and becomes wealth managed instead, we don't have a playerbase, and no game. This is not a Poloniex after all. Playing is a part of it!

Heh, hundreds of pageviews after I posted the last one, yet no replies...

I have nothing much new to add, so please read it again. In the Town Council we had the following discussion agenda:

1) there needs to be a reason to do it
2) there needs to be a plan what to do when winning
3) there needs to be a plan for losing
4) there needs to be a plan how to win
5) it needs to be done

Why even have CK in the first place? The reason to "do it" (resurrect from the pause and design and develop Clans to potentially reach 100,000s of players) would be that it is important, even crucial, for the adoption of Monero. And that Monero is a cutting-edge building block of human liberty. Do all of these even hold true any more, after 2 years?

Only after becoming re-convinced of the importance of the mission, it's reasonable to do the planning, and then the execution.

You don't get anything done if you question its validity all the time. But once in every 2 years it is very much useful to check it.

And the lull of the pause has given everyone the benefit of being a little distanced and more objective to evaluate.

As before, I see no reason to hide the important discussion anywhere. So please reply here Smiley

Trading range has been 95+% from 1.80 to 2.20 USD, for a fairly long while.  I doubt it can go as low as 1.80 any longer, though.  That would take us all the way back to lows last seen...yesterday...which would be too terrible to contemplate, and hence impossible.

Every time people start to issue such frothy statements and want to believe in them, the end is near. This so reminds me of the situation in Bitcoin in late January 2013 when $16 was breached and therefore a new 1.5 year high was made, beating the Pirate high of previous year, and people believed it could never go to the trading range of $5-$10 again.

Remember, just remember what happened and do not get sucked to the hype.

Great point in general, but in this case I think aminorex intended his remark to be taken ironically. 😉

A short update - PJ has been working all the time, and as he wisely put, "we will need to wait for King to sync our teams before starting game", this exactly is the case. While game development is hard work, and needs to be done fluently, it is still just work, and many popular games are not very stellar designs at all.

Our next stage, Clans, is not just about good design and implementation. It is a make or break situation, but I see it a make or break situation of community, marketing, and organisation, why not even finance, legal and other under-the-hood or backoffice tasks. I trust in my ability to design a game, and PJ's to realise this vision. But what we are trying to accomplish here, is to make it big, and so it cannot be a 1-2 man show any more, and the things I have purposefully neglected this far (to save time for design and hooking in the early adopters), will need to be addressed.

Crypto Kingdom was conceived in October 2014 to be a lure for gamers to become cryptocurrency users, to be a funnel that would filter large numbers of people that have not used any cryptocurrencies before, and make them grow into XMR through the game. The purpose was not to make a great standalone game. That business is done somewhat differently, and is more straightforward and less interesting (and neither approach has any guaranteed success).

The implementation plan for the era of Clans will need to be more organised and less agile than the one so far. More work needs to be done in the fields that so far have not been the focus. Rallying up more people and getting them to contribute useful pieces of the puzzle, is a skilful job, and suited for someone else than me. A community builder is needed to handle the aspects that I cannot manage while simultaneously forcing the development. More work means more money is needed, so the XMR whales will be contacted if they see that the game is worth their participation. The design and staying power are proven with 2 years of history, but this does not guarantee that the window of opportunity to greatly benefit Monero (and the whole of the free world) is still perceived to exist. So in front of us are very interesting weeks, just like in every other point in time so far!

Hardly an hour has passed without my thoughts processing the matters of the Kingdom, so in this sense the holiday has not been completely satisfactory  Cheesy CK has become such an integral part of my life that as we will now raise the banners and blow the horns for everyone to join the troops once again, it truly feels like a long sleep is losing its grip and the rays of sun make the world living again.

10. When the module [Clans] opens, there is first a 2 year grace that the lacking number of suits will not cause penalty to the owner of the NPC. Then, according to my discernment (which will be communicated as it comes), the penalty will take 5-10 years to rise to the planned level approximately linearly. At the same time the happiness bonus for having excess suits will start from a higher-than-normal value and decrease to the planned level approximately linearly.
11. The NPCC remaining suits will be sold at market when the NPCC ends, so that the NPCC will get points for the money raised. The money goes to Town in the end. This procedure will be announced in advance so that at least 48 hours is given for placing the bids before the dump may start, and the total liquidation time is a year.

It is likely that the NPCC will close as planned. They will get to sell the suits to the market as explained above, and benefit directly of the full value of the suits as the money received will yield points. Even if that, for some reason, does not happen, their full value will be taken into account as Syksy explained.

In any case, the NPCC need not do anything now. Or anyone else. The game is paused, and will wake up from the very same situation. Enjoy the break!  Cheesy

Crypto Kingdom will go on pause for the summer

* Time will be stopped;
* During the period that time is stopped, nothing will happen in the game;
* Development continues during the pause;
* When the game is resumed, it happens in the new Clans platform; all login+password will be the same, all money, land, buildings and items will be the same.

Most of the detailed questions will find the answer just by thinking: "The game goes on pause so that time is not moving. What can happen if no time passes? Nothing." If this leaves questions open, the admins:

SirJacket (Mayor)
Mooo (deputy GM)
saddam (treasurer)
Syksy (all-around good guy)
Roopatra (wiki editor)
and others will help. No help is needed of course since there is nothing that needs reaction - we decided to make this so that there is no need to make any changes or think. Just a summer break, and when it ends, the game is back even cooler.

The theory and practice of successful MMO RPG development knows the ebb and flow of player interest, and it is normal and smart to recharge interest by having a break when the community seems to require it. After a few months, the game is much fresher to play both because it has not been a forced weekly exercise for too long, and because there are nice new features, graphics etc.

Some might have noticed that I took a whole month off from this forum as an announcement tool. That was not a good idea - it contributed to the fast downfall of communication in the game in the past weeks. So when we put the game back online, this forum will be a main way to announce it. Reading the ingame billboard will also give enough info.

Important information:
* It is not allowed to leave game balances negative during the break. This is a serious offence because 1) it is not allowed and everyone knows it 2) we do not run fractional reserve. Please fix the situation immediately. You are held responsible for your clan members' negative balances and it is possible that the whole clan is foreclosed and all assets sold as we move to the pause.

More info will follow by the admins posting here. Thank you for this growth spurt of 1600-1647, looking forward to the next one! Smiley
