821  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The invulnerabe Bitcoin myth. (Basic math risk analysis) on: November 18, 2011, 04:51:28 PM
This requires a more realistic transaction fee system.  The current fee system is unsustainable and won't be able to protect the network.  IIRC the developers have indicated they intent to push for transaction fee changes so I don't think this is an issue.
What would you see as being a sustainable fee system?  Something like a minimum fee of 0.5% on all transactions-- no minimum, 1BTC maximum?
822  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: sendmany andanvatage? on: November 18, 2011, 04:40:14 PM
The 0.5 client seems to be able to send BTC to more than one address with one transaction (via the UI). Does anyone know if that uses 'sendmany'?
823  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I will be interviewed about Bitcoin on more than 100 Radio stations! on: November 18, 2011, 04:32:15 PM
1.  They allow anyone to have a "bank" account that CAN NOT be seized by the IRS.
2. If you are careful,  the IRS can't even know how much money you have in your account,  or that you even have an account at all!
In effect,  they will make paying most taxes voluntary. (in fact,  not necessarily in law)
Please don't advocate tax evasion.  Simply state that you can achieve certain levels of financial privacy with Bitcoin.

3. They allow you to do business with whoever you want,  anywhere in the world, with complete privacy.
By default, Bitcoin is NOT private. But if you're very careful (maintain separate wallets, not send transactions from your IP, etc) you can achieve certain levels of privacy.  Hopefully Bitcoin will become more private in the future.  See this thread about tracking transactions: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=24784.0, and this post about forwarding transactions https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=50282.msg603865#msg603865

5. If you set it up properly,  no one can even track how much money you have earned, so potentially, you could report as much, or as little of it as you choose.
Again, please don't advocate tax evasion. Also, you have to go to a lot of work (patching the client, using nonstandard tools, running behind tor) to actually have some semblance of privacy.

1.  There are no 3rd party fees.
There are no 3rd party/centralized fees, but there can be small fees imposed by the "official" bitcoin client depending on certain factors. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_fees

Play poker online for money despite the government's prohibition.
Buy other prohibited items online.  (Silkroad etc)
Again, please don't advocate illegal activities.

OK, I'm officially registering a second bet with myself.

The BF Labs device uses a full-custom ASIC chip originally designed as a IPSec VPN accelerator.

The intellectual property of BFL consists of finding how to internally modify the behavior of the chip
to change the IP protocol 51 (AH - Authentication Header) HMAC-SHA-256 to a simple two nested SHA-256 hashes.

Somebody please quote my message.

Thanks,
That's an interesting idea.  Now if that's not what they're doing, you've just given away a good idea.

829  Economy / Speculation / Re: who would pay me to crash the market? on: November 18, 2011, 04:01:36 AM
how many bitcoin you have to dump in the market?
He thinks the price will drop, and he wants to fleece others by "predicting" it.  (maybe, of course)
830  Economy / Speculation / Re: who would pay me to crash the market? on: November 18, 2011, 04:01:01 AM

832  Economy / Speculation / Re: Confirmed: Bitcoinica sold at $1.994 on: November 18, 2011, 03:58:40 AM
I retain a lot of hope that at some point Bitcoin will be a viable technology for the masses, but a good deal of evolution is needed before that is the case (IMHO.)
You can say that again.
833  Economy / Speculation / Re: 1 btc to whoever predicts the high/low for the next 4 hrs starting from 2:53 on: November 18, 2011, 03:52:19 AM

835  Economy / Gambling / Re: [WTB] Bitcoin Gambling Domains on: November 18, 2011, 03:39:28 AM
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/jun/20/icann-domains-expansion-annnounced

However fee is 185k to create your own domain, and application is 360 pages long.
Wonder how much we can raise for .bitcoin lol

Somebody will definitely buy gambling related gTLDs then sell off domains for it, so by end of 2012 can buy through registrars bitcoin.poker or bitcoin.casino ect.

Thanks.  I don't know if those names will take off too well.  People are still pretty attached to the "normal" tlds.
836  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Short Bitcoin Survey (Optional questions and I will submit the results later) on: November 18, 2011, 12:25:02 AM
Survey completed.
837  Economy / Gambling / Re: [WTB] Bitcoin Gambling Domains on: November 18, 2011, 12:13:01 AM
Can't domains be anything starting 2012?
Where do you get that idea?
838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you buy a 0.1 BTC Casascius Physical Bitcoin as a giveaway? on: November 17, 2011, 11:53:08 PM
I think the private key should be covered by a hologram or a scratch-off label or something, and they should have no expiry.

I would cover them with a hologram, but they would be too easy to read with any kind of ray that is reflected by the metal.  The engraving would change the shape of the metal and would be detectable.  So the hologram would be poor assurance that the key has not been read.

Compare to my regular coins - I am using inkjet on paper - which I think would be much more difficult to read from the outside.
Hmmm.  Would some type of metallic hologram help with that?  How about printing the privkey on the coin somehow instead of engraving it?
839  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sent some btc into a black hole on: November 17, 2011, 11:51:09 PM
i hope in the future they will Re-mine the coins lost in the black hole
Maybe if they were categorically proven to be invalid addresses. Smiley
