we goin' to the moon boys

True, but it will probably be a leisurely cruise rather than a quick commute.

Slow at first... then BOOM!

Keep fucking stacking

@BitcoinBudgie
If all 21 million #Bitcoin  were to be distributed equally, each person on Earth would get only 0.0027 BTC.

(It’s actually less because about 4 million BTC are lost or unattainable)

Even less, 'cause I ain't giving mine!

I know a friend of a friend who won $2M in the lottery. In 2 years he was broke and owing money to banks for a half-built luxury house he never managed to complete.

Yeah, those people treat it as income, not capital. Like they're going to recieve $2M every year.

12 hours after halving, all is good.

everybody else can just use -datadir as an argument or in a config file.

yeah, that would be great, except at least in this Debian build I got here attempting to open the config file results in the console that qt is running under shitting all over itself

 Roll Eyes

If you can't edit a simple text file on that box, I'm afraid it's not suitable to run anything important.

Do you accept that some of these crises may, in fact, be real??

"They don't care about you at all - at all - at all" - George Carlin.

Crisis may be real, but taking advise from people who don't care about you is foolish.

There's much more to this, but i'd need "JJG superpowers of texting" to express all this in a meaningful way, i guess Cheesy

Maybe you could hire JJG as your personal wordsmith.

I said healthy people who die, take a long time to die.  It takes them 45 - 60 days to drown in their own lung fluid as they fight every step of the way.

Outbreak on Diamond Princess ship occurred 3 months ago. Yet no significant increase in the last month or so, right?

I know you will say that the passengers were probably old and fat.

And I will say the crew members were probably NOT old and fat.

Was testing of all passengers and crew done on the Diamond Princess?  If we don’t know the denominator, then the Case Fatality Rate is just guesswork.  The only data I can find is 712 cases and 13 deaths giving a CFR of 1.8%

They say "over 3000 tests" on the ship by the end of February. I assume they eventually tested everybody before letting them out:

Japanese officials performed more than 3,000 tests on the Diamond Princess, starting with older passengers and those with symptoms. Some passengers were tested more than once, offering insight into the virus’s spread over time. Testing almost all of the passengers and crew helped researchers to understand a key blind spot in many infectious-disease outbreaks — how many people are actually infected, including those who have mild symptoms or none at all. These cases often go undetected in the general population.

Oh right, how could I forget the thousands of bodies stacked high in 2009, dead from unemployment.  Roll Eyes

Well...

In 2015, life expectancy in the wealthiest country in the world fell for the first time in decades. Then came the nearly unfathomable: Life expectancy in the US fell again in 2016 — and for a third time in a row in 2017.

It is hard to communicate just how disquieting that trend is. Outside of wars or pandemics, life expectancy across the world has been consistently rising for almost a century, and has become a hallmark of highly developed nations. The last time a three-year downturn in life expectancy happened in the US was more than a century ago when the 1918 flu pandemic wiped out anywhere between 17 million and 100 million people worldwide.

What was happening? As Princeton economists Anne Case and Angus Deaton first pointed out in a 2015 paper, working-age white men and women without four-year college degrees were dying of suicide, drug overdoses, and alcohol-related liver disease — what Case and Deaton termed “deaths of despair” — at unprecedented rates. In 2017 alone, there were 158,000 deaths of despair in the US: the equivalent of “three fully loaded Boeing 737 MAX jets falling out of the sky every day for a year.”

Two more examples of low death rate:

Iceland: 1,801 confirmed cases, 10 deaths.

Singapore: 21,707 confirmed cases, 20 deaths.

They also do LOTS of tests (Iceland is number one with 144,800 tests per mil)

By half-arsing the lockdown and pulling out too early

It's just not possible NOT to "half-arse" the lockdown.

The Lancet estimates the Case Fatality Rate of coronavirus at 1.38%.  Australia's actual Case Fatality Rate is 1.33%, which is one of the lowest CFRs in the world, reflecting a world class health care which is not under stress and massive testing, increasing the size of the denominator.

I think Russia's numbers are lower - 1700 total deaths, but they do LOTS of tests, so the number of confirmed positives is 200,000 and rising fast. The real number of positives is probably 2x-3x higher.

Nothing will happen, they said.

Halving is a non-event, they said.

Some people think it's super-smart to bet against the trend.  Grin

I say let them.
