So I'm new here, but correct me if I'm wrong, but in order to "cash out" on a potential investment of Bitshare what you do is trade it for Bitcoin which can be cashed out for real money or gold?

Trade it for BTC and do with it what you will. BTC is real money. IF you mean FIAT money, than yes.
882  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who's brave/stupid enough to invest their life savings into Bitcoin? on: July 28, 2014, 05:13:21 PM
Investing your life savings into Bitcoin is borderline retarded and indicative of a low financial intelligence.

That statement is so true it hurts.

So what do you think is a safe/good amount of your savings to invest in Bitcoin? 20, 30 over 50 percent?

The key here is it all depends on how much savings you've got. Most people I know have life savings of less than a year's salary, and don't own any assets. For them, it would probably make sense to invest a lot, >50%, because they could make the money back by living very economically for a few years.

If you have a million dollars in the bank, then it would be pretty dumb to invest >50% of it IMO, I would say no more than 15%, more like 5%

But if you have a million dollars and own 10 houses worth a million each, why not invest 100% of your money? If it fails, sell one of your houses and you'll have your money back.

This is such bad advice. You're advising the guy who doesn't have money to invest a lot of it, and the guy who has tons to invest a little.

BitShares will not succeed for a variety of reasons. The main being its much to complicated for the average user. Thats all there is to it, 99% of the world wouldn't understand how BitShares works, and they aren't going to take the time to learn how. Bitcoin is a simple concept. Internet money. Done.

Odds are this completely falls apart within the next several months.

Why does the world need to understand how it works? All they need to understand is how to use it. The majority don't understand the underpinnings of google, facebook, twitter, even the USD but they all still use it.

Well for anything that people are using they are expected to at least know a little bit how it works otherwise they could be supporting a malicious act etc you should always try to fully understand what you are using and why you are using it.

Who's expecting who to know? You think the US GOV wants people understanding how the USD works? Could be supporting malicious acts is exactly right.

You think Facebook wants people understanding there business model? Google?

Bitshares doesn't fall into these categories but as long people know the benefits of the product they don't REALLY need to understand how it works, only that it works.

So buying BTSX is like buying shares in Bitshares?

BTSX is a DAC(Decentralized Autonomous Company) developed by BitShares. Bitshares will aid in the development of many future DACs.

PTS would be like buying shares in BitShares. In which case PTS will give you X% equity in all future DACs that honor PTS.

Equity in future DACs such as:

Bitshares DNS
Bitshares Voice
Bitshares Music
Bitshares Bingo
Bitshares Me
& more

What's the market cap of NEM? Is there only 1000NEMstakes total or only that many issued on AE?

Be weary of massive HYPE is all I can say. Any HYPE I ever bought into I got burned badly. Lesson learned.

It is sad that in http://coinmarketcap.com/ NXt is now in 4th position.May be when ethereum will come it will take nxt's place and nxt will go further more down.  Sad

Ripple is on its short term top and NXT its short term bottom. Give it 24 hours and I guarantee NXT back to 3rd.

As for Ethereum. I'm expecting some huge scandal to occur. I just have this sketchy feeling regarding ETH and for some reason I don't trust the DEVs. In their interviews I just get negative vibes from them.

891  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Qora is scam, just NXT clone, developer run away! on: July 25, 2014, 05:27:37 PM
thank you everyone for selling me cheap Qora.  Grin

Destroying your own coins value for selfish greed. Nice one.
892  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: July 25, 2014, 05:17:50 PM
I'm trying to keep my opinions to myself on the source discussion (for now, anyway) but if you've written any application in Java or .Net, then your source is "open".  If qora disappeared, I imagine the binaries would be easy-enough to decompile and cleaned up for sharing on Github.

Heck, I could do it and I'm not even a java dev.

shhh! Don't tell Kora!  Wink

Lol... Sad

Your comment peaked my interest. I downloaded some software and decompiled Qora. It's very easy to do, but I'm not really a programmer so what I'm looking at is gibberish to me. Point being, anyone who had the expertise could go through and easily compare it to other coins, or determine if developing projects for Qora is of interest to them. So being "closed source" should not be a detriment to bringing in developers.

Qora said this from the beginning even before it was released. Problem is a guy from NXT did as he said himself a very brief look over and said it was new code but had some similarities to early NXT versions so it wasn't conclusive and started the whole Qora is BCNext. No reason why someone can't do a more careful check. This is where the Qora is a NXT clone lies have come from.

People still need to understand open source is more an ethos of a crypto currency. I don't really get why people are so afraid to release is soonish as it usually helps a coin gain interest and increases the price. CLONES HELP!!

I got to say I have to wonder if we followed Qora plan from the start and released the code by now and never talked about not doing so and not focussing on marketing early too. my guess is the coin would be 10x the price it is now. Qora community shot themselves in the foot IMO.

You're back on the QORA train now?

So how will the bonus % work if CRSALE is being traded? The bonus % will be attached to the bter account opposed to the CRSALE stake?

CXX is a dope ticker. Looks scary and bold.

I don't think it looks scary and bold. I think it looks stupid. What is CXX? Have no connection to Crypti whatsoever.

CRYPTI is awesome ticker. What could possibly be better.

6 characters for a ticker is too long. The purpose of a ticker is to abbreviate the name. It would be the first ticker with 6 characters and would defeat the purpose. Also,  Cryptsy already has the ticker CRYPT.

I feel a ticker is optimal at 3 characters. I personally like CXX but if not CXX, some other 3 character ticker. I don't know why CRY was not nominated as a vote option.

PS: a lot of that volume on swisscex over the last week seems to be a bot trading with itself..  swisscex also seems to have a lot of bugs during certain time periods lately.. I put in a buy order and it somehow gets executed as a sell.  Not a good experience for newcomers to NLG.  Would recommend pointing new people who want to exchange BTC for NLG to bittrex or bluetrade.  seems more reliable.

EDIT: sorry, bleutrade not bluetrade.

A lot of newcomers are pointed towards Litebit where they can start by buying Guldencoin with Euro's.

I can confirm the problems with Swisscex Markanth mentions. A test sell of 100NLG this morning resulted in a sell of 8600NLG at a totaly different price. I waited to make this public until I got answer from support. But the answer was far from convincing. They upgraded the software the 17th and support states they have problems with the frontend but the trading is OK. Strange thing is that my history my transactionlog and balance all are proofing a wrong transaction.

It's in everybodies intrest NOT TO TRADE NLG on Swisscex till this issue is solved.

A few days a ago people were buying all the way up to 18x going market rate which was insane. I do't know if that was a bot or not but when i went to put in a buy order at about .000001 i ended up buying at 9x higher at .000009. Definitely some problems there. If it was indeed not a bot someone WAY overpaid for NLG.

Is AT5 a large media outlet in the Netherlands?

According to their advertising stats on their website they have a net-reach of about 550.000 people via TV. AT5 is the news station of Amsterdam.
They tweeted it to 83k followers as well: https://twitter.com/AT5/status/490929391707623424

Oh wow, that's pretty large. Great news!  Tongue

900  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitshares-PTS to double/triple in price in the next 45 days!!? on: July 19, 2014, 11:38:01 PM
This confused me.. Why is a 3rd party releasing the bitsharesX chain?

Invictus Innovation, which is a US based company, is not launching any DACs. Invictus is simply creating the opensource software that makes DACs possible. DACs Unlimited is group of developers out of Hong Kong that know how to use the bitshares toolkit and are well equipped to launch future DACs. Other 3rd party DAC developers will emerge to launch new DACs using the toolkit and every DAC that is created will honor pts holders 10%. This is why pts is such a great buy. By the end of 2015 I expect the bitshares repo will have more for forks than bitcoin's.

But in the DAC explanation chart there were "Bitshare" DACs and then "3rd Party" DACs.. Is this not an official Bitshares DAC?
