881  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Awesome Miner]- Powerful Windows GUI to manage and monitor up to 5000 miners on: July 06, 2017, 03:23:41 AM
What have people's experience been with MiningPoolHub (as the profit switching pool)?

I normally use MPH and it seems to work well.  I'm not currently using it, as I discovered a coin that just took off in the last few days... so I'm concentrating my cannons on it for a bit.  Cheesy
882  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Awesome Miner]- Powerful Windows GUI to manage and monitor up to 5000 miners on: July 05, 2017, 04:17:29 AM

Here's a step by step...

The Managed Profit miner is not auto-switching for me. It stays on the same algo that it starts with.

I followed your guide and setup a profit profile with 6 different algos, all using the same miner and with just zpool enabled, and 5 mins for the interval.

If I stop and restart the miner, it will sometimes pick a new algo, but it won't switch unless it is stopped.

Should it switch automatically? Also what data does the app look at to determine the most profitable algo?

Thanks for this great tool. "Awesome" is right.

Edit: After many hours the miner has not auto-switched. I still love this software. It saves me a lot of time and helps increase earnings. If auto profit-switching was working the software would be perfect.

There are several factors that will determine what a Profit Miner will mine.

  • 1. Profit Switching interval
  • 2. Algorithms selected in the Algorithms tab
  • 3. Mining software set to mine those algorithms
  • 4. Profit switching profile set to use those algorithms and mining software
  • 5. Profit switching profile set with correct hashrates and power for the cards
  • 6. Profit Miner set to the correct profit switching profile
  • 7. Finally... what the Online service would say is the current most profitable at that check time/interval

All these factors have to line up for AM to switch, and many times is just the luck of the draw when it comes to the interval and what the pool says is most profitable.  I've watched AM and MPH for a while to see what happens, and many times, you just miss the most profitable coin because it changes so quickly before the next interval.

Now... on the Profit Switching interval:  This is how often AM will check the most profitable coin.  If you look at the Online Services tab, and then uncheck the pools you are not using in the Display Services dropdown... then you will see just the coins being presented as minable.  You also need to change the profit switching profile dropdown to show the profile you will be using.  Now, here's where it gets interesting.  If you set the interval too low (like your 5 minutes), you could potentially have lots of switching.  But, it's only if the pool switches.  If you leave it at 30 or 60 minutes, then you will most likely get less switching.  This interval is important to think about.  If you use something low like 5 minutes, then you could potentially be wasting time during the switch.  It could take 30 seconds to a minute to switch to a different miner and ramp up to your normal hashrate.  Then just 4 minutes later you could be switching again... loosing another 30 seconds to a minute.  You could be wasting 20% of your hashrate during these switches because you are changing too often.

A second issue with a fast profit switching interval is the instability of the top coin.  If you've ever watched a pool's profit switching algo, or Whattomine then you will see that these coin switches also happen a lot.  A coin will hit the top spot, then thousands of profit switching algos will kick in and drive the difficulty up, knocking that coin down the list again.  The problem is, you will be stuck mining that coin until the next interval or check that AM does.  An even greater problem is that your profit pool still has to go out and exchange that coin to BTC, and it will do that at the spot price at the time of conversion.  It will not happen when that coin was profitable for a few minutes or even an hour or two.

Let's say a coin shoots up the list and is now worth $1 per coin.  Your profit switcher changes to it, and you mine a whole coin (possible if you have a lot of hashrate to throw at it)... then after a couple of minutes, the coin drops down the list because of difficulty from all the other miners switching to it... say to $0.50 a coin.  When the pool sends it to the exchanges, you will get at best $0.50 minus all the fees the pool charges for the upkeep of the pool, the exchange fee, and then maybe even a transaction fee.  You will get a lot less than that $0.50.  So really... was it profitable to switch to this coin?

Now imagine you are doing this every 5 minutes... you won't make much profit.  You can combat this by increasing the profit switching interval to a much higher number.  30 minutes is probably the minimum you should look at.

In my opinion, it's actually better to look at the trends of the coin, rather that what is most popular at that instant.  I would prefer to see AM use a weighted measurement average to determine the most profitable coin.  For instance, if you set the interval to 30 minutes, it should check to see what "place" it's in.  If the coin is in the top spot, it should get a "1".  If it's in second place a "2".  Then average that number with all the other interval checks over say the past week... and the lowest average number is what you should be mining.  That will reduce switching to coins that will not perform well, and will bring more profit.  It takes into effect the time it takes for the pool to accumulate coins, send them to the exchange, and then pay you the spot price in BTC.  I think a weighted average will give you a lot more consistent profit.  I'd love to see this feature Patrike!

I doubt mining had anything to do with your issues.  If you turn off your miners does the Fritzbox go back to normal?
884  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Windows 10 version to GTX 1070 rig on: July 04, 2017, 03:55:26 AM
IMO don't use Windows 10 AT ALL for a mining-specific rig.

The ONLY thing that justifies the existance of Windows 10 is DirectX 12 gaming.

 *PERIOD*

If you feel the need to run a mining-specific rig on Windows, 7 is overall a MUCH better option.

Ugh... Please don't keep doing this.

There's nothing wrong with using Windows especially Windows 10 when it comes to a mining OS.  The only negative thing about it is that you have to pay for it.

I would guess you're not running the base "Windows 10 Home" then, which is very difficult to get updates to be disabled in AND the only "registry edit" option doesn't work 100% reliably as Mickey$loth can manage to override it somehow on "critical updates".

It's not difficult at all, as I showed you in the other thread.  Just disable the Windows Update service and you won't get any more updates.  It takes 60 seconds to do.

I also STRONGLY dislike the changes they made to the UI (especially the carry-over worthlessness BS from Win8).

Subjective, but that's like your opinion, man.

I see a LOT worse stability in 10 than in 7.

I'm not sure what you could possibly be doing that would cause stability issues in Windows 10.  It's extremely stable in all of my experience.

I hate that "Cortana" BS you CAN'T GET RID OF, along with quite a few other "can't get rid of them" apps that just waste drive space, but at least most of the others don't automatically load and waste CPU cycles and RAM no matter WHAT you do.

If you want a lighter OS, use Windows Server.  Windows 10 is meant for an interactive experience... so of course it's going to have more tools, and features.

Quote
Don't even get me started on the "call home" crap that's built into the OS.

I've always found this criticism hilarious, especially when it's posted on the internet.

Quote
It's a VERY VERY long list....

TO be fair, I do have some issues with 7 - but the primary one never got fixed (the "explorer doesn't save your file window positioning" issue) and STILL exists in 10 - which is WHY I still have a XP system around and will continue to do so 'till I get around to replacing what that system does with a LINUX system, since Mickey$loth has made it obvious that they consider this particular issue a "feature" and not a "BUG THAT TICKS A LOT OF FOLKS OFF".

I'm not even sure any of that required any capital letters.  Seems like a petty criticism.

GTX 1070 is just a good all-around mining card, which is why they've joined the high-end RX series cards in the "massively price gouge, amazingly short supply" category.

Finally... something we can agree on.  Cheesy

Yes, use USB risers.  No power goes through the USB cables, it must be supplied to the PCIe riser

hi
2 rx 570 mini 4gb Elpidia :

firstly bios mod - copied 1500 memory to the rest. to 1 and 2 segments

Should be ok.  I typically copy the 1625 straps on a 470 card though.

mv from 1000 to 1950

Why?  You don't want to increase you mv on GPU or memory.  Or did you mean you changed your memory clock from 1000 MHz to 1950 MHz?

Quote
Gpu mhz from 1244 to 1300 and 65287

This is not doing what you think it's doing

Quote
after that i have got 25 m/h
and maximum 1975  in afterburner in memory

still i have got 27 m/h and second card less and millions of mem mistakes

what i do wrong?

If you are getting memory errors, then your memory clock is too high.  If you are getting millions in a few minutes then it's way too high.  Start dropping it by 50MHz, run it for about 5-10 minutes.  If you are still in the millions, drop it another 50.  If you are getting thousands of errors in 5-10 minutes then start dropping by 10 Mhz until you get Zero errors.  You need to let it run for 5-10 minutes after each change to see if it's stable.

Every card will be different.  You use Afterburner to find the sweet spot for each card, then burn that into the BIOS, so you don't have to depend on Afterburner.
888  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: eth mining hardware question on: July 03, 2017, 07:09:44 AM
Go with Windows 7 if you insist on mining under Windows.
10 still has a LOT of issues, and it's a ton easier to get 7 to NOT UPDATE YOU TO BROKEN NEW DRIVERS that often kill your mining.

I'm curious about this statement.  I don't mean to hijack this thread, but why is Win 10 not good for mining?  It works very well for multi-GPU setups.  And it's pretty easy to stop updates on any Windows OS... just set the Windows Update service to disabled.

That's NOT an option on Windows 10 Home at all, and I think you have to do something else in Pro per the reading I've done.
The ONLY way to turn off updates in 10 Home (and it's not 100% reliable, per a couple comments I've seen it CAN be overriden by Mickey$loth for "critical" updates) is registry modification.

Mickey$loth has gone out of their way to FORCE you to suffer through autoupdate on 10, and made it a ROYAL PITA to even try to turn it off.
It's NOT as simple as 7 or earlier at all.

7 in my experience works JUST as well in multi-GPU setups, and seems to be a lot more stable overall (M$ has had a lot longer to squash bugs in 7 after all).

Eh... are you sure about this?

I don't have Win 10 Home to verify... but you're telling me that when you hit WIN+R and type in services.msc that you don't get the Services MMC?  And that you can't find the "Windows Update" service and set it to disabled?  There's no GPOs or registry settings to bother with, just a simple turn off the service if it's running, and disable it so it never runs again.  It takes 60 seconds to fix this problem.

Many people don't understand how Windows works, and that's ok.  But it's not a reason to go on a tirade about Microsoft.

What is the best OS for mining Ethereum?

Linux is free.  You have to pay for Windows or ethOS.  As far as performance is concerned, the OS plays little part.  The mining software, Bios settings, and under/over clocks determine your hashrate.

Lol, i was confused with the 1080ti's with the other memory.
Yes i know 1070's can do a lot more than 1080's.
But i thought the AMD cards could mine way better and efficient in other coins.. or am i wrong lol

AMD cards are more efficient at certain algorithms, and Nvidia more efficient in others.  They can both mine practically all the same coins that matter though.  When cards were available, the RX470 was the sweet spot for Etherium when it came to price per Megahash.  An nvidia 1070 is the current sweet spot for cards that are available.  A plain 1080 is not a good value at today's prices, and a 1080ti is a powerful card when you put it on the algos that nvidia does best.
891  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU and HDD/SSD mixed rig? on: July 03, 2017, 05:43:42 AM
Yes, it's possible.  In fact, it's good to have a GPU to plot the HDDs for Burst mining instead of waiting hours or days with just a CPU.  In fact you could have 3 separate miners running at the same time.  Mining some altcoin with your GPU, mining Burst with your HDD, and mining something like Monero with your CPU.

By the way, don't use an SSD for mining Burst.  It's kind of a waste.
892  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PSU question on: July 02, 2017, 10:49:30 PM
I have Fsp hydrp G 750w and 850w PSUs. Does watt difference matter If I connect 2 of them to one rig? Will they work properly? What do you think?

No, it doesn't matter.  As long as you are not crossing power feeds, you can use two PSUs.  Use the 750W one to power the Mobo and maybe 1 or two cards and their risers.  Then use the 850W one to power the rest of the GPUs and their risers.  The GPU and riser have to be powered from the same PSU.  Never ever ever power a GPU from one PSU, and the riser from another PSU.  There will be lots of smoke.
893  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Buying GPUs, need an opinion on: July 02, 2017, 10:45:49 PM
I'm having the same problem with choosing between 1070's or RX580's 8GB.
I like the fact that the AMD cards can mine a lot of coins, but they are way overpriced at this moment.

I suggest you wait for the RX 580s to come back into stock and leave all the GTX 1070s for me to buy... since you don't think that nvidia cards can mine the same coins as AMD.

SSD is severe overkill for a mining machine, though the M2 based ones are convenient and small.
HDs still offer a ton better GB/$ if you don't need the raw speed of a SSD (which mining machines do NOT need).

Correct, SSDs are not needed, but they are reliable, fairly cheap in low capacity versions, and boot fast.  Wehn you are setting up mining rigs, you will be rebooting often during the OS install, updates, installing GPU drivers, BIOS flashing, and rig hangups as you tweak the rig to run the fastest possible and the most stable.  Time is money in mining.

2 x 4GB RAM is a much better option than a single 8 GB stick, dual channel can help a lot sometimes and the price is usually pretty close to the same.

Yes, go for the 2x 4GB option, that way you can split them apart to run two rigs later.  4GB is more than enough to run Windows.

897  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum + ? // What dual currency should i pick? for the Claymore miner? on: July 02, 2017, 09:49:17 PM
If you are asking what coin to dual mine based on profit, then like Vann said, check whattomine.  That coin will change all the time depending on a number of factors like conversion to BTC rate, difficulty, etc.

If you are asking what coin to dual mine based on the potential of the coin, then I suggest Sia coin.  It's actually got a real-world use case, a hardware "minebox" server on the way, and an ASIC coming next year.  I'd collect as many Sia now as you can, as I think it's value will steadily increase over the next year.  You also may end up using your Sia coin to store your backups in the distributed "cloud" soon... so having cheap Sia now could be beneficial.
898  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: MSI RX 470 4GB is it good for mining ethereum ? on: July 02, 2017, 09:38:52 PM
Hello I'm new in mining i want to start with ethereum what hashrate a MSI RX 470 4GB will give me ?(I know Sapphire will give me about 20MH/s is it the same for MSI)

price of MSI RX 470 4GB here it is about 260$ i want to buy 3 of them is it worthy ?

if not what coin do you suggest me to mine ? with what GPU ? (in my country nvidia is more common than radeon)

No, that card is horrible.  You should buy them and sell them to me instead.  Tongue

If you BIOS mod the 470s you can get a lot more hashrate than 20MH/s

Etherium is still the most profitable to mine with AMD cards right now, but you would be wise to Dual mine.  I dual mine Etherium with Sia coin.  I like Sia as a project, so I'm stacking coins to save for later.
899  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Awesome Miner]- Powerful Windows GUI to manage and monitor up to 5000 miners on: July 02, 2017, 09:22:33 PM
In the future i would really like to try again with this software, maybe ive found a bug in the software idk.. if someone knowledgable can help me setup one rig, i would love to make like a small video walking people through it to help others.. because numerous people have mentioned over on another post section of this site that they were unable to get this software working and either used MPH multi-miner, or Nemo multi-miner....

Here's a step by step...

Open up your Options in AM and go to the Profit Switching tab.  Here you can see I've enabled zpool, and put in my BTC address.  You can also see where you can enable MPH right below the zpool line, and I put in my username at MPH.  I normally mine at MPH, but turned it off for this example to show you zpool.

Ok, now that you've enabled zpool in the Profit Switching tab, go to the Profit Profiles tab.  I've created a couple of extra profiles specific to RX 470s and 480s, but you should still have the default AMD GPU and NVidia GPU profiles.  I'm going to select my AMD GPU profile and edit it...

In the Profile config page, this is where you can enter any custom algo hashrates and power consumption for a generic "AMD GPU" profile.  I have more than one kind of AMD card, so I had more specific profiles for my RX 470s and 480s... but you get the idea.  In this generic profile, you can also turn on or off any algos you want to mine, and set custom settings for each miner.  I'll show you an example.  I've selected the Claymore Dual Etherium Miner and will hit Configure...

This one is important as this is sort of a "template", so if you have any custom settings you like to pass to the miner software you can do so.  When I'm using MPH as a profit switcher pool, it likes to mine ETH+Sia at the same time, well... because that is still the most profitable for AMD GPUs right now.  So when I use Claymore, I like to drop the intensity of Sia using the -dcri 12 command and tell it allpools and allcoins as in my example below.  There are several other options to play with here, but generally defaults are fine.

Now that we are done setting all the algos, hashrates, powersettings and custom miner settings in the Profit Profile called "AMD GPU", we need to go to the Managed Miners tab, and either edit your existing Profit-switching miner you had setup before, or create a new one... uou get the same options either way.  Here in the example I'm going to edit one I created called i7x3480:

There's not a lot to configure here, but a couple of important items are to select the Profit Profile you just edited (In our case here, the "AMD GPU" one), and set a rig name suffix.  It doesn't matter as much for zpool, but if you want to use MPH, it helps to keep track of your rigs individually by name here.

Now, stop the static Managed Miner (if you had one running for that rig), and then startup the Profit Miner.  You can see in my example below that this rig is now mining equihash on my AMD GPU profile (that's what zpool says is most profitable right now), and it's showing expected income.  If I were to switch my profit miner to use MPH, it would dual mine ETH+Sia right now as MPH thinks it's the most profitable.

Question: since i am running Nemominer can i set this software up to monitor them using the external miner section? if i can it would make life easier being able to see the miners all from one screen..

Yes, I think so.  Does Nemominer use the same miner software for all algos?  If so, then you can specify an External Miner and specify the IP and monitoring port of that miner software.  You also have to specify what software that is, so AM knows how to talk to the API.  If Nemominer uses different miner software for differnent algos then maybe not.

It would definitely show that you have some decent technical skills, and interests beyond what is required for the job.  If the interviewer is curious, it would be a great ice-breaker conversation.  I know when I interview IT candidates, I always ask them if they have a home lab or something similar... and a mining operation would definitely qualify as a home lab.  It's an important question for the interviewee to answer for me.  It shows whether they are interested in a career in IT or just a job in IT.  And it also shows that the candidate is willing to be constantly learning and growing.
