901  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why not leave bitcoinia in maximum leverage? on: March 20, 2012, 03:47:31 PM
Is there any reason not to leave it in 5:1/10:1 leverage, assuming your account balance will support it, and just exercise self discipline? Seems to offer max flexibility and no downside.

Or will your borrowing costs be increased? I haven't checked.

The best reason I have come up with for myself is that I am not able to limit my loss to an acceptably small % when using 10:1.  I was either taking a very healthy profit (profit is great when you can get it at 10:1), but all my losing positions lost too much too quickly and I end up getting forced out.

I'm interested (without prejudice; I don't have a horse in this race), how Apple's recent decision to start buying back stock and issuing dividends affects your analysis?

Won't their buying push the price up?

red herring.  these type of announcements always occur at tops.  JPM did the same.

classic mistake of buying high and selling low.

S&P just bounced off of 1400... its not crashing yet...

600 of that 1400 is AAPL... I just sold a couple dogs in my portfolio (GBG, HPQ) and loaded up on SPXU.

Maybe it won't roll over, but what I let go was only losing me money anyway.

I only have a play money account in the real market but I really dont think we are going back below DOW13000 and S&P1400 for another few months.

I am watching AAPL as a potential lead indicator as well...  Sure the RSI is at 100 again(it basically has been since Jan) but with the dividend and share buyback announced along with this http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-03-19/apple-sells-record-3-million-new-ipads-in-tablet-s-debut-weekend ... I think the pilling in of retail investors is just starting.  AAPL will continue bubbling to at least 700.

How long until we are under $4 again?
907  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's called a correction (waveaddict's bitcoin charting subscription thread) on: March 19, 2012, 06:21:32 PM
correction started at about 5.26  the lowest point was  4.84, 4,99 is 38,2% on this scale
i am wrong on this ??

You would actually measure the Fib move from the top which was 5.45 so 38% of that would be 5.073. If we get there and then breach 3.84 then we know that we are dealing with a wave 4 right now.

God, I wish I had a website right now with a chat section so that I could actually talk to you guys without all the public watching.

Until you get a website set up... http://www.chatzy.com/

I'll probably set something up similar to this in about a week. I have other obligations that I have to take care of for the better part of this week though, so if I were to set it up now, my time on it would be 'very' limited.

No worries, sounds good.  Just giving you options

I thought we had a lot of good reasons to hold long... big volume up through $5, triangle continuation pattern, parallel channel support, SMA support, positive daily MACD...

I need to learn to watch for bear signals... I only see bull signals.

that is the thing...there were so many more bullish signals than bearish ones. Remember, I was never really super bullish about this whole move past 5 longer term. I was always keeping an eye on the bearish evidence.

Furthermore, what happened proves why technical analysis will never be an exact science and why you should 'never' bet the farm on any pattern or indicator no mater how likely the outcome is. This will always be a game of probabilities, and so, sometimes the low probability outcomes win.

Sometimes you go all-in on pocket AA... and lose.  Its a shame that I am better at managing my poker bankroll than I am at managing my trading balance, because the risk management idea is exactly the same.

Let me just ask: Has anyone actually made money from leveraging on bitcoinica?

Personally, I would stay away from that site, but if you must dabble, I would never leverage everything. Always keep a lot of powder ready to buy on dips that you were not expecting in order to average down on your position when the trend is up.

Ive made money there sometimes... kinda like how sometimes you win a scratch off ticket...
912  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's called a correction (waveaddict's bitcoin charting subscription thread) on: March 19, 2012, 04:38:35 PM
I seriously think I am cursed.

Whatever strategy I follow fails.

Even the coin flipping guy isn't making as much of a loss as me.  How is that statistically possible?  Own up; somewhere there is an anti-me making thousands.

I can honestly say that every single trading decision I have made was the wrong one.  I should offer a service to tell you all what I'm doing so you can do the opposite.
Short term is full of manipulators, man
Surely sometimes I should fall on the same side as a manipulator?

Am I alone in this?  Are other small traders just dripping money slowly into the jaws of manipulators?

You are not alone.

Dissappointing.....

Don't be disappointed.  I think on the whole this is a good thing.  We're going to solidify a floor and if you play your cards well and you could be sitting on a kick-ass long position in a few weeks.   Grin

Not when you already have a PISS poor position already...

As usual..

Im tired of trying to make sense of the analysis and constantly getting fucked..

Showing patience only increases my losses

Sounds like we need to meet at a bar and talk LOL.

Im smoking a joint as we speak, going for a ride on my honda...  everything is better on 2 wheels..

Driving/riding while under influence....... Just don't.....

Why not?  Do you have any evidence that cannabis impairs drivers?

What was your leverage?

Just guess... 10:1

I thought I was doing better this time tho because I didnt fully leverage up my deposit.  I had deposited 20 coins and only bought 100.  Is this different than depositing 20 coins and fully leveraging up at 5:1?

My stop for this position would have been $5.00(not that I actually used one) but I figured my liquidation price was so close to my stop that it made little to no difference.  Anyone please feel free to advise me...

I got liquidated... I was holding at $4.90.. I guess that little spike down to $4.88 got me.

All clear to go back up now guys...

EDIT: So do I just suck at trading or what?  I was holding short at $4.90 before we spiked up to $5.40(liquidated).  Doubled down with a bigger position and went long at $5.23ish(liquidated)...  More charts/less charts/more trading/more patience... it all ends up the same for me...
918  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's called a correction (waveaddict's bitcoin charting subscription thread) on: March 19, 2012, 03:43:16 PM
I am sooooo close to being liquidated... this means only a few more cents down and then up to the moon without me...

Not a wise thing to disclose here on the forums... But I guess this thread is a gold mine to anyone wanting to do a long squeeze now.

Compared to whats going on right now my position is tiny.  If someone wants to sell a few thousand coins to try and liquidate my ~19 coins... DO IT, COME AT ME BRO.
919  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is your low target for the rest of the week on: March 19, 2012, 03:41:46 PM
Its all good... your intentions were correct anyway. lol.  Ill be liquidated soon...
