[....] and that vista was the worst ever released. [...]

I didn't think it was worse than 3.1 or ME.  Cheesy

What I have seen with Windows 8.1 64bit on a 2GB RAM system, you can add Windows 7 to that pile! Smiley
942  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [50 TH/s] BitMinter.com [ASIC support: var diff, Stratum, GBT, rollntime] on: October 12, 2013, 09:51:45 PM
I agree ,I'am running vista and the Bitminter client does not reconnect after the smallest of disruptions.

Try the latest version (1.4.2) and go "settings" -> "options..." then the "devices" tab. Set it to rescan every few seconds or minutes, and turn on "repeat rescan of failed ports". This will ensure that even though the hub or ASIC device doesn't work properly for a while after it disappears and reappears, BitMinter client will not give up after the first try, but will keep trying all COM ports over and over.

That's not on by default as all the error messages you would get if you have a COM port that is not an ASIC device are pretty annoying.

Good to know if I decided to switch back to the Bitminter app again! Smiley

can someone advise me on batch 3 units with 4 moduals on power at normal speeds and oced speeds thx

Look back a couple of threads there is mention of OC'n 4 module Avalon's. Of course in the end it depends on how big your PSU is. Wink

from avalon

4 module unit clocked at 285Mhz, 750W power supply.

note: to overclock pass 310Mhz you will need to replace the power supply.

350Mhz  = 1200w or maybe 1000w

here

http://avalon-asics.com/product/avalon-4-module-unit-gen1/

285Mhz does how many GH/s?

Hey Doc, please change the title of this Topic to

[100 TH] BitMinter.com [1% PPLNS; Pays TX FEES; ASIC support: Stratum, var diff, GBT; port 80, 3333, 5050]

Right now it's not very appealing to newcomers.

I agree I have seen my pay outs drop dramatically from 0.08 down to 0.03 now. Sad

Is there a 32bit driver for asicminer usb's .335ghs.

Trying the 1.4.2 version on a 32 bit vista laptop bit cannot get the client to mine at all .

It found com4 then said tuning miner but not hashing happens .

do not know how to add screenshot in this forum .

I had this problem on my Lenovo X61 running XP, it wasn't until I upgraded to Windows 8.1 did the com4 issue go away, but I had to stop busing the bitminter software as I found it wouldn't reconnect if a hub disconnected so I started to use bfgminer which reconnects is something disconnects. Smiley

Is it possible to use a version 1.5 avalon controll unit(FPGA) to run a 4 module version 3 Avalon?

I am running a batch 3 module & 3 @ batch 2 modules with a version 1.52 controller (Batch 2, delivered in July).

what do you need to do it? Ive tried to no avail.

I plugged in the ribbon cable & a power cable into their respective slot 4 positions.
I changed the number of miners from 24 to 32.
The holes that attach the heat sink to the bottom place are not compatible.  I affixed 1 screw to the heat sink, and tried not to move the miner very much.  The module had to be installed at an angle for the header to fit.

I ran it this way for many weeks with the Golden 850 or whatever brand power supply, but I felt nervous about drawing 1030 W from the wall, and bought an OCZ ZX Series 1250W and installed it a few weeks ago.  This seemed to be a good power supply and is on the known good list on the avalon wiki.  I did (have to) remove 1 of the top plate mounting screws, as the power supply is a little taller than the original.

Today, I received the expansion module for a Batch #2 unit, and I did a swap out between the batch #3 and the batch #2 4th modules.  My Batch #2 unit is now an Avalon stock unit, with the replacement OCZ power supply and an Avalon (4th) expansion module.

I also have a 2nd machine.  It is a fire damaged Batch #3 unit.  I bought a controller, cables, PDU, and thermometers from bitmine.ch.  This is all Batch #2 compatible equipment.  The PDU is mounted on the original mounting holes.  The controller is freestanding.  The Golden 850 power supply from my Batch #2 is mounted inside the case.  I have a fire damaged module with 6 good sub-assemblies, and I am hosting another Batch #3 module for a 3rd party.  So, this Frankenstein unit is a mish-mash of Batch #2 & Batch #3, Avalon & 3rd party equipment.  It is currently mining at 256 MHz without the thermometers installed, and using an external fan.

What an adventure.

Sorry when you said you changed the number of miners from 24 to 32, why is that?
I have look around on google and the wiki for some kind of manual for the Avalon and come up empty.

Thanks

Is there any easy way of getting a forth module for a Avalon?

I have a B1 and B2 that I would love to get a 4th blade/module for.

Thanks,

They are available in stock from Avalon.

but impossible to buy a module alone ! i test yesterday and today. cant add to card and no answer from avalon

result i buy 2 units instead

That's okay I needs a batch 1 and batch 2 module anyways. Smiley

Thanks

Hi

Any help would be appreciated. I recently updated from the 20130703 firmware which has been running extremely stable to the xxxx0923.

However, from openWRT web interface I am now getting the following error :

-----------------------
[Firmware Version] => 20130923
cgminer: 48681dd
cgminer-openwrt-packages: 3527ce4
luci: 296b358
Socket connect failed: Connection refused
----------------------------------------------

I was only able to manually start CGMINER from SSH and starting it from the command line.

Any ideas. I have already HARD rebooted the machine once

When you flashed your system did you blow away the settings? I found that keeping the settings sometimes hinders the update to work properly.

I also had the same problem you had with my B2 when I first got it, it was because I was using the wrong URLs in my config to mine. I was using https:// ones for bitminter and not the stratum+tcp:// one. Once I switched to the correct URL everything worked.

Thanks for the info. But if I order a module from them does it come with everything like the power and ribbon cable, and the board the connects at the top of the module? Sorry for asking I went to the site and looked at the pictures and didn't see any of that.

Avalon fans!!

Has anyone replaced their fans in the past, and if so what did you replace them with?

I am having trouble finding fans that are within spec, I am finding mostly fans that have a low CFM but everything else matches, and it looks like Delta isn't making the FFB1212EH-PWM fan anymore which I would gladly buy and replace the main fan in my B1, and may test the 38mm with the delta's to see if anything improves or stays the same.

So I am at a loss as to what I should be looking for today, can anyone help?

Thanks!

If you just want OEM replacements I just pulled the model of fan on my B2/B3 and found "used but like new" identical units on eBay for $7 and change shipped.  (NMB MAT 4715KL-04W-B56)

What model is the 25mm fan on the B2?
953  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: October 09, 2013, 02:16:48 PM

i would have thought this impossible...

how much did u pay for your b2 module?

also where did you source your sensor/s?

I bought the b2 module as damaged, not working, for BTC 2.5.  It has 5 of 8 sub-assemblies working.   Two capacitors and almost all chips in the first sub-assembly are destroyed, and the 1st plug on the header strip seems to be dead.

I don't actually have a sensor in place.  I need to know the connector part number that connects it to the controller, or find a vendor.  I bought an AC desk fan and have it plugged in, and I am hashing at 256 MHz, to avoid overheating.

I wish I could find a sweet deal like that, would honestly like to add a 4th blade to my B1 and B2 avalons! Smiley

If I replaced my fans in my B1 do the need to have a certain amperage?

I am looking on Ebay and saw these fans from Foxconn -

Anyone more than me that took the hassle of signing up at tradehill?
avalon, what a joke, b3 4 90GH units for 16btc, and avalon mini 2 board (oc'd to 375mhz) 60GH unit 9btc.
Luckily , they have hundreds of units. so far i can only see one mini that has the 9btc bid.
If they put up some reasonable prices ok..

As long as the units are on hand that's not too bad. ButterFly 60GH units that people have on hand generally go bout 2k to 2.5k or about 14BTC here in Toronto, ON, Canada. If they aren't on hand units and you have to wait 8 months to a year to receive them then yes your right! Smiley

957  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: October 07, 2013, 10:43:16 AM
Okay this is strange. I keep getting error messages from the site after I post a message, then I wait a bit and hit post and it tells me the post is already here, so I come back to the end of this thread and my message is not here. LOL

I am wondering if anyone has noticed and or figured out what the batch 2 avalon's run cooler than the batch 1's?

Thanks
958  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon fans on: October 02, 2013, 05:38:42 PM
Don't have any pictures on me currently, but the fans were the same throughout all of my Batch 2 units.  I did end up swapping out the fans for aftermarket ones before moving them into colocation.

What fans did you end up switching them with?
I have a batch 1 Avalon, I was thinking of changing the PC with something the system can control which is why I asked.

Has anyone taken pictures of their batch 2 Avalon facing the fans and could share it with me (full rez?). I have a Batch 1 Avalon and Fan 1's speed isn't adjustable, so I would like to replace it with like that is used in the batch 2 Avalon's, plus I want to check and see if fans 2 and 3 are the same as in batch 2.

Thanks.

I wondering what settings I should use on my B1 and B2 avalon or if --avalon-auto is the best setting for both?

Both are using the kolivas 21/08 firmware.

Thanks,
