961  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 30, 2013, 08:04:02 PM
Hi everybody,

We are Swedish miners that are producing our own ASIC miners to strengthen the market and avoid monopoly.
Our company kncminer is pleased to announce the opening of a brand new web shop dedicated to the online sale of Bitcoin hardware to the international community, www.kncminer.com.

A lot of scam sites are appearing every day and we are not one of them, therefore we will not take any orders and are only registering interest.

We will in the upcoming weeks opening our order book to allow the purchase of our first set of ASIC miners. They are in the early stages of development now and will be ready in the summer of 2013 (yes in just a few months)
Register an account now it’s completely free and if you subscribe to our newsletter we will alert you the moment we open the order books for entry and other information around the ASIC products.
If you have any questions we will be happy to answer them.

Happy mining

With the difficulty increasing at a much faster rate now, how long does it take you to build anyone of these units and deliver them?

Thanks.
962  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Difficulty question on: September 27, 2013, 08:54:27 PM
It does when the hashing power of the network falls, which is basically when some miners turn off their machines for whatever reason. Historically, IIRC, this has only happened once: when the Bitcoin price fell to $2/btc a couple of years ago.

Is there a balancing point to the difficulty?

The difficulty reflects the average hashrate over the last 2016 blocks, and it aims to retarget the block time to 10 minutes, it's no more complicated than that.

Right, but again nothing stops Wall Street, or the government to start pouring millions into bitcoin producing TH/s forcing everyone out unless you are super-rich and can afford the equipment to get to keep on top of it. I wouldn't be surprised if by this time next year it will require PH/s to produce 1BTC a day based on the rate at which the difficulty is increasing.

The only way to stop it at this point is to pull the bitcoin network down a few week maybe...

963  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BFGMiner 3.2.1: modular ASIC/FPGA, GBT, Strtm, RPC, Lnx/OpnWrt/PPA/W64, BE Blade on: September 27, 2013, 07:34:12 PM
How do I setup 3.2.1 to only use my ASIC USB miners and not my graphics card?

I am using Windows 7 x64.

The settings I found online are for the older version of Bfgminer and don't work on 3.2.1 Sad

Thanks,

The simplest command line for erupters is:-  bfgminer.exe -o http://stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333 -u MINER -p PASSWORD -G -S all

-G stops your GPU
-S all     finds your erupters

The need for other switches are listed in the README file

I see to recall that -G doesn't work on the 3.2.1 for Windows x64, when I check the commands /? it doesn't have -G listed.

Sad

Is there a balancing point to the difficulty? At some point only the people who have millions to invest in mining will stand to gain anything from it. This is a good time for the governments and banks to start mining bitcoins so they can drive the difficulty up high enough so they can be in control of it.

Does bitcoin difficulty ever go down?

967  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon blinking power light message? on: September 27, 2013, 06:51:07 PM
Is there a list of messages for the blinking power light on the Avalon miner?

I have a B1 box, the power light blinks, it's green, the temp on #2 shows up as -1. I suspect the cable came lose when I replaced the PSU on it or when I was trying to put the lid back on it.

Thanks.

Does it mine steady while the blinking is going on?

Yes it mines without stopping so far. I upgraded the PSU from 650 to 860 watts.
I also noticed on this website that had the info for the B1 Avalon that its picture of mining in process shows the temp2 also at -1, so I wonder if what I am seeing is normal?

My B1 Avalon is showing a temp of -1 on temp2 and the power light is flashing, does anyone know what this means?

I released the PSU a week ago and haven't used it since because my internet has been down. I wonder if a wire is lose in side or something?

Also I would like to know what fans are used in the B2 avalons?

Thanks

Hello,

I have 8 Avalon Asic miner.
4x Batch 3
4x Batch 2

I have some questions.
Is it possible to move an module from Batch 3 to Batch 2? As I read, only
the case design is different between the batches?

Can I get more performance if I build
3x Batch 3 (4 Modules)
3x Batch 2 (4 Modules)

And which power supply do I need for this configuration?
Is 1000 Watt enough?

Not sure about moving a blade from the different batches.

4 blade system do about 107GH/s, you could go higher there is always a risk to doing that.
971  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: September 23, 2013, 11:26:57 AM
so if  the web interface is your problem. disable it..
a 15 digit password and no standard username makes any bruteforce attack on it impossible..
if anyone hacks my units, i salute the for the hours of hashing they might steal from me..
creating a storm in a teacup.

There is more than the username/passwd combo to web interface security

Don't hook random appliances up to the interwebs without any firewalling, just common sense

From default passwords to debug backdoors accidentally left open, I've seen it all in the past

i see, so you have found a backdoor to ddwrt? it is a firewall. maybe post this to them and they can update with your hack for next update! and again, no idea where you get "without firewalling" from. ddwrt is an opensource firewall..
Setting an avalon, which already has a firewall behind a firewall, is no specific added security.. especially if it is a standard dlink or netgear.. A firewall is only as safe as it can be configured. DDWRT is a secure opensource firewall.
Hooking up a pc using cgminer all public ports could not be adviced. However, cgminer in this case is running on top of a ddwrt firewall.
If you want to read more about ddwrt go ere:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/What_is_DD-WRT%3F

I would only be interested in this too if there is something inside the firmware that transmits out to home base some where that would allow someone in. Otherwise I could care less as I don't put my Avalon's on the internet without a firewall in front them as that would be very bad practice!!
972  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: September 22, 2013, 08:40:03 AM
Sadly these PSU's costs more in Canada Sad

973  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Questions on: September 22, 2013, 01:32:16 AM
Well it would be nice if the guys who make the Avalon would add a spare parts page to their site so people can buy things like screws and nuts.

Thinking about it if I can find some kind of small non-slippery wedge to prop the nuts in place I should be able to get the bolts back on without too much fuss. I even thought about bending the thin parts on the case down to hold the nuts. We'll see.

974  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Questions on: September 22, 2013, 12:24:21 AM
1. I want to replace the 650W PSU with an 850W PSU, I wonder if someone could recommend one I could buy today to replace it?

The Corsair AX860i is probably one of the best 850W PSUs that can fit into a Batch 1 Avalon without any modifications.

Thanks that what I was thinking of getting.
975  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: September 21, 2013, 09:18:34 PM
I bought a Batch 1 Avalon and want to replace the power supply with a bigger one. Can anyone suggest a power supply to use that will fit inside the case?

Looking at the 850's they are longer than the 620w that's inside and I am not sure if it will fit?

Thanks
976  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Questions on: September 21, 2013, 08:11:20 PM
2) They're retarded, deal with it. Just make sure all are accounted for, other users have shorted with it
4) Thats right, 2 for modules and 1 for ambient.
5) Dont touch the fans unless you need to

Sorry I meant 2 not 3 thermal sensors plugged in. Typo.
977  Bitcoin / Hardware / Avalon Questions on: September 21, 2013, 07:31:45 PM
I just bought an Avalon Batch 1 miner that has 3 blades and have some questions:

1. I want to replace the 650W PSU with an 850W PSU, I wonder if someone could recommend one I could buy today to replace it?
2. I noticed when taking the lid off the nuts fell inside the case, is there a proper method to putting the lid back on so I don't lose the nuts? I notice the nuts have slots cut into one side of them but putting them on upside down might be a little hard...
3. Where can I buy more bolts and nuts from, it seems the previous owner didn't up all them on the case, I am not sure if he lost them or what the story is, but there looks like there is about 5 to 10 missing.
4. I noticed there are only 3 thermal sensors plugged in on the system board, is this normal with the 1st batch?
5. There are two big heavy duty fans and one clear fan, should I upgrade the fans at all? Are the fans different on the Batch 2 Avalons?

Looking forward to heading your answers.

Thanks

Is there a sweet spot on the Avalon so that your not stressing it out too much?

I noticed on my Avalon which is running at 350Mhz that the power cord started to head up, it was one of those workstation type power cords, I replaced it with a server cord which are thicker, and I plug mine into APC surge protector and directly into the wall. What are people's thoughts on using an UPS? I noticed on my Avalon when I plugged it into my newer APC BackUPS Pro 1500 and flipped the setting on the UPS to show me the wattage being used that my system is using about 735 watts.

Thanks
I think the 'sweet spot' depends on whether you've done any mods to the system, and what's the ambient temperature. For me avalon-auto parameter stabilized 356 MHz.
UPS is used to give the system time to shut down properly in case of a power outage. That's not needed with Avalon, so unless you live in an area where you have lots of smaller outages,  I would use it on your PC.

Thanks for the info. What PSU do you use and how much do you spend on hydro?

My Avalon came preset since I bought it used. It uses --avalon-fan 65 --avalon-cutoff 60. At 350mhz temp 2 & 3 stay at 50.

Sorry I have skimmed through a less than half the threads here going backwards and I see a lot of people talking about OC'n their Avalon's at stupid clock rates. Smiley

I have a few general questions about the settings on the Avalon.

Is there a sweet spot on the Avalon so that your not stressing it out too much?

I noticed that under my workers that the worker that my PC uses to do the hashing on my ASIC USB miners has lower stats than my Avalon box. I wonder if that's normal for if I need to start looking at my Avalon's settings to reduce the number?

So for instance, the Rejected (number of proofs of work rejected all time) shows 3,458 on my ASIC miners and 11,872 on my Avalon. Both have started at the same time.

Thanks,
